A
“I
really
like
dancing,”
says
11?year?old
Jonathan
Rosario
of
New
York
City.“That’s
what
I
want
to
be
when
I
grow
up—a
dancer.”
Every
Saturday,Jonathan
and
hundreds
of
other
children
from
New
York
City
public
schools
take
classes
at
National
Dance
Institute
(NDI).The
nonprofit
(非营利的)
organization
in
Upper
Manhattan
was
founded
in
1976
by
dancing
star
Jacques
d’Amboise,who
grew
up
in
a
tough
(充满犯罪与暴力的)
neighborhood.It
has
been
teaching
school
children
how
to
dance
through
weekly
classes
for
over
30
years.NDI
also
supports
programs
in
New
York
City
public
schools,helping
thousands
of
children
to
express
themselves
creatively.
On
a
recent
visit
to
NDI,I
watched
as
Jonathan
and
other
students
practiced
for
an
upcoming
performance.I
also
spoke
with
d’
Amboise
about
the
influence
that
dance
has
had
on
his
life
and
why
he
started
a
program
for
children.
“Dance
changed
me,”
he
said,“and
I’d
like
to
see
other
young
people—especially
boys—have
the
arts
in
their
life,using
dance
as
a
window.”
For
d’Amboise,dancing
is
like
competitive
sports.Ice
hockey
(冰球)
players,for
example,“learn
to
compete
as
a
single
person
and
as
a
team,”
he
said.“They
learn
how
to
win
or
lose
and
accept
either
result.And
they
develop
skills
and
unity
(团结)
by
being
on
a
team.”
The
same
is
true
for
dancers.
Jonathan
says
that
Saturdays
at
NDI
are
all
about
energy
and
fun.But
dancing
also
requires
great
effort.“Work
hard,”
he
advises
other
young
people,“and
you’ll
make
it.”

C.It
has
reached
thousands
of
children.
D.It
gets
support
from
some
public
schools.
2.D’Amboise
set
up
NDI
because
he
realized
that________.
A.there
was
no
such
organization
for
boys
B.dancing
made
a
person
become
more
creative
C.many
young
people
were
changed
through
dancing
D.the
arts
were
an
important
part
of
children’s
education
3.D’Amboise
compared
dancing
with
ice
hockey
to
show
that________.
A.both
dancing
and
ice
hockey
are
competitive
B.results

first

and

looks

one
can

B
October
15th
is
Global
Handwashing
Day.Activities
are
planned
in
more
than
twenty
countries
to
get
millions
of
people
in
the
developing
world
to
wash
their
hands
with
soap.
Experts
say
people
around
the
world
wash
their
hands
but
very
few
use
soap
at
so?called
extremely
important
moments.These
include
after
using
the
toilet,after
cleaning
a
baby
and
before
touching
food.
Global
Handwashing
Day
is
the
idea
of
the
Public
Private
Partnership
for
handwashing
with
soap.The
goal,they
say,is
to
create
a
culture
of
handwashing
with
soap.The
organizers
say
all
soaps
are
equally
effective
at
removing
disease?causing
germs
(细菌).They
say
the
correct
way
to
wash
is
to
wet
your
hands
with
a
small
amount
of
water
and
cover
them
with
soap.Rub
it
into
all
areas,including
under
the
fingernails.Then,wash
well
under
running
water.Finally,dry
your
hands
with
a
clean
cloth.
The
Partnership
says
soap
is
important
because
it
increases
the
time
that
people
spend
washing.Soap
also
helps
to
break
up
the
dirt
that
holds
most
of
the
germs.And
it
usually
leaves
a
pleasant
smell,which
increases
the
chances
that
people
will
wash
again.
It
also
says
that
washing
hands
with
soap
before
eating
and
after
using
the
toilet
could
save
more
lives
than
any
medicine.It
could
help
reduce
cases
of
diarrhea
(痢疾),which
is
the
second
leading
cause
of
child
deaths,killing
more
than
one
and
a
half
million
children
a
year,by
almost
half.
5.What
does
the
author
intend
to
tell
us
in
the
passage?
A.To
keep
healthy

a
big
meal
to
celebrate
Thanksgiving.They
might
play
games,tell
stories
or
watch
football
on
television
together.
Angelo
Rosa
has
more
Thanksgiving
memories
than
most
people.From
Drexel
Hill,Pennsylvania,the
100?year?old
man
lives
in
the
same
house
where
he
celebrated
a
great
number
of
Thanksgivings.
But
he
says
it
was
different
when
he
was
a
child.Mr
Rosa
was
just
three
when
his
family
came
to
America.“When
we
were
small
children,Thanksgiving
was
never
a
very
big
holiday

at
the

a
language

generation

was
not
able
to
have
big,costly

during
the
hard
time
of
the
1930’s.But
Mr

says
Thanksgiving
dinners
became
a
tradition
in
his
own
family
after
he
married
and
had
children.
This
Thanksgiving,Angelo
Rosa
will
go
to
the

his
daughter
about
twenty
minutes
away.He
will
celebrate
the
day
with
loved
ones,including
his
great?grandchildren.

the
country,Cathie
Dahlstrom
is
preparing
dishes
for
a
group

35

40
people
in
Concord,California.We
asked
Ms
Dahlstrom
what
she
is
thankful
for
this
year,her
first
answer
is
“The
election”.She
said
she
is
also
deeply
grateful
for
her
very
large
family.Ms
Dahlstrom
has
one
daughter.She
has
five
younger
brothers
and
sisters.She
also
has
eight
stepbrothers
and
stepsisters.Many
of
them
and
their
families
will
be
at
the
Thanksgiving
dinner.

came
from
Italy
B.he
has
a
large
family
C.he
has
a
longer
life
D.he
has
a
much
older
house
6.From
Ms
Dahlstrom’s
words,we
can
infer
that________.
A.she
is
content
with
both
her
family,relatives
and
the
society
B.she
is
thankful
for
her
effort
in

her
family
C.she

Thanksgiving
this

happy
gathering

family
members,relatives
and
friends
B.a
grand
family
dinner
party
as
well
as

B.A

or
TV
station.
C.A
university
student
who
majors
in
history.
D.An
actress
who
wants
to
experience
real
life.
C
Inside
Out
is
one
of
my
favorite
Disney/Pixar
movies.The
story
is
about
a
young
girl
named
Riley
who
moves
from
Minnesota
to
San
Francisco
with
her
family
and
how
she
deals
with
her
emotions
(情感)
through
the
move.These
five
emotions
in
Riley’s
brain
are
Joy,Fear,Anger,Disgust
(厌恶)
and
Sadness.These
emotions
play
a
very
important
role
in
her
life.I
can
relate
because
I
am
an
11?year?old
girl
and
I
am
very
in
touch
with
my
emotions
and
pre?teen
feelings.
The
film
is
extremely
beautiful
and
you
couldn’t
ask
for
better
direction
from
Pete
Doctor.The
use
of
the
right
colors
for
the
characters
is
great.For
example,Joy
is
yellow,Sadness
is
blue,Disgust
is
green,Fear
is
purple
and
Anger
of
course
is
red.Sadness
plays
a
main
role
in
the
story
and
it
makes
me
wonder
why
we
are
told
not
to
be
sad.I
think
it’s
important
to
be
sad
when
the
time
comes.The
end
of
the
movie
pretty
much
got
me
and
the
whole
audience
(观众)
(families,couples
and
even
elderly
people)
in
tears
and
I
cried
very
hard.
I
recommend
(推荐)
this
movie
for
anyone
from
8
to
18
because
it
has
enough
joy
in
it
for
younger
kids
to
like
it
even
though
it
does
have
some
sad
moments.I
believe
that
adults
will
like
it
too.And
I
give
it
4
out
of
5
stars
because
it
connects
to
an
older
audience
even
though
it
is
designed
for
a
younger
audience.I
think
younger
children
can
see
this,but
a
parent
would
have
to
explain
some
things
to
them
after
the
movie.
9.The
author
feels
connected
with
the
movie
because
she
and
the
character
Riley________.
A.enjoy
the
same
movie
B.have
the
same
feelings
C.have
the
same
move
experience
D.have
a
similar
family
background
10.What
does
the
author
think
of
Pete
Doctor’s
job?
A.Bad.
B.Just
so?so.
C.Wonderful.
D.Disappointing.
11.After
seeing
the
movie,the
author
has
a
new
understanding
of________.
A.fear
B.sadness
C.anger
D.joy

eyes,the
movie________.
A.won’t
attract
people
over
18
B.is
really
unsuitable
for
children

Ⅱ.阅读理解
Many
people
know
of
the
Hawaiian
tradition:New
arrivals
at
the
airport
will
be
greeted
with
a
circle
of
flowers
and
kisses.The
practice
started
in
Polynesia
and
Asia,and
at
first,the
lei
wasn’t
used
as
a
symbol
of
welcome.The
common
people
handed
the
circle
of
flowers
over
to
royalty
(王室成员)
as
an
offering
of
politeness
and
honor.They
chose
an
intermediary
(中间人)
to
give
the
gift
to
members
of
the
royal
family.Visits
from
mainland
America
softened
the
tradition
and
brought
about
the
greeting
we
know
today.
Before
the
invention
of
planes,travelers
arrived
by
boat
and
got
quite
a
greeting:hula
dancers,a
band,photographers
and,of
course,lei
givers.In
modern
times,tourists
are
met
by
a
smiling
local
who
places
the
lei
around
their
shoulders
and
kisses
them
on
the
face.The
latter,by
the
way,is
a
mainland
custom;Hawaiians
prefer
to
touch
their
noses
or
breathe
a
sigh
on
each
other’s
face,called
a
“ha.”
Hawaiians
give
leis
to
each
other
for
special
occasions,like
graduations,birthdays,weddings
and
other
holidays.Pleasant
ginger
flowers
in
either
white
or
yellow
are
most
frequently
used
to
celebrate
these
occasions,with
a
few
exceptions.For
weddings,the
bride
(新娘)
wears
a
lei
made
primarily
of
pikake
with
small
decorative
additions
(附加物)
of
maile,a
vine?like
flower.The
lei
worn
by
the
groom
(新郎)
is
the
opposite;it’s
primarily
made
of
maile
with
small
additions
of
pikake.Each
member
of
the
rest
of
the
wedding
party
wears
a
different
lei.Interestingly,the
groom’s
lei
is
open,like
a
scarf,while
the
bride’s
is
closed.
Usually,pregnant
(怀孕的)
women
shouldn’t
be
given
a
closed
lei,as
it’s
believed
to
bring
bad
luck
to
the
newborn.The
lei
of
welcome
shouldn’t
be
given
to
sick
people
because
frangipani
grows
wild
in
the
places
where
dead
people
are
buried.The
hala
lei
is
believed
by
some
to
only
be
given
at
the
end
of
a
venture
(a
new
business
activity),not
the
start.Besides,when
you
wear
a
lei,you
should
never
take
it
off
in
front
of
the
giver,as
it’s
seen
as
very
impolite.
