but“仅仅”,为固定搭配。相当于only。

C.reached
D.advanced

vt.,其后不需要跟介词;advance“前进”,不符合句意。

C.condors
D.elephants
答案:A 因为是动物园,所以是“动物”居住的地方。
44.A.defend
B.guard

45.A.measures

up“逐渐增强,开发”;move
off“离开”,均不合句意。
50.A.not
just

just....but
also...“不但……而且……”。

B.cruel
C.funny

52.A.belief
B.origin
C.need
D.importance
答案:C 句意:他们质疑把这些动物关押起来的“必要性”。belief“信任,信仰”;origin“起源”;importance“重要性”均不符合上下文的逻辑关系。
53.A.suffer
B.comfort
C.injure
D.starve
答案:A 用来说明主题句“Some
people
believe
it
is__31__to
keep
animals
in
zoos”的只有suffer“痛苦”。故排除与此主题相反的B项;injure“伤害”;starve“饿死”都是suffer的一部分。
54.A.remain

good
land
again.
They
want
to
bring
water
to
the
deserts,
so
people
can
live

But
more
and
more
earth
is
becoming
deserts
all
the
time.
Scientists
may
not
be
able
to
change
the
deserts.
Scientists
think
that
people
make
deserts.
People
are
doing
bad
things
to
the
earth.
Some
places
on
the
earth
don't
get
very
much
rain.
But
they
still
don't
become
deserts.
This
is
because
some
green
plants
are
growing
there.
Small
green
plants
and
grass
are
very
helpful
to
dry
places.
Plants
don't
let

let
the
wind
blow
the
earth
away.
When

the
water.
Without
plants,
the
land
can
become
a
desert
much

B
Can
better
food
create
better
people?
This
is
the
true
idea
that
is
driving
the
development
of
today's
farming
quickly.
The
future
food
is
the
best
food.
Scientists
will
put
real?time
sensors
into
our
bodies
that
can
read
the
information
of
what
our
bodies
need.
A
personal
health
system
will
be
able
to
study
the
information
that
the
sensor
provides
before
making
a
food
order.
Then
the
order
will
go
to
the
local
food
supplier,who
will
get
in
touch
with
the
food
maker
on
the
farm.
The
entire
supply
will
be
controlled
by
computer
according
to
the
needs
of
the
end
user.
Food
from
restaurants
will
come
in
over
a
million
kinds.
Customers
will
be
able
to
order
the
food
that
is
really
good
for
their
health.
By
2050,
a
farm
will
use
technologies
that
will
leave
today's
farming
far
behind.
A
farm,
as
shown
by
Despommier,
a
farming
scientist,will
be
a
30?storey?tall
building
and
used
to
grow
plants
without
soil.
The
farms
of
the
future
will
grow
half?plant,
half?animal
products,
and
people
will
be
able
to
control
nature.
Special
crops
will
be
grown
in
this
controlled
special
space,
such
as
short
stalk
corn,
personalized
fruits
and
vegetables.
Besides
growing
food,
new
ways
will
be
found
to
“grow”
products.
We
will
also
be
able
to
control
plants
in
other
ways.
For
example,
we
will
some
day
be
able
to
“train”
a
tree
to
grow
its
branches
into
the
shape
of
tables,
coffee
tables,
chairs,
or
rocking
chairs.
Once
these
unusual
branches
are
fully
grown,farmers
can
walk
up
to
the
tree
and
harvest
the
rocking
chairs
by
cutting
them
off,
which
is
the
same
as
harvesting
apples
or
pears.
The
entire
production
area
in
the
future
will
be
managed
by
a
robot
that
travels
up
and
down
doing
all
the
necessary
jobs
of
planting,
weeding,
watering,
and
harvesting.
59.The
real?time
sensors
in
our
bodies
will
find
out
________.
A.what
we
like
and
what
we
hate
B.whether
we
are
healthy
or
not
C.how
much
food
we
need
D.what
food
our
bodies
need
答案:D 细节理解题。根据第二段“The
future
food

the
best
food.Scientists
will
put
real?time
sensors
into
our
bodies
that
can
read
the
information
of
what
our
bodies
need.”可知应选D项。
60.The
food
order
goes
to
the
local
food
supplier
so
that
________.
A.the
needs
of
the
end
user
will
be
well
met
B.the
food
supplier
will
not
waste
any
money
C.the
food
maker
will
know
how
to
grow
plants
D.the
food
supplier
will
know
what
healthy
food
is
答案:A 细节理解题。根据第二段“Then
the
order
will
go
to
the
local
food
supplier...
according
to
the
needs
of
the
end
user.”可知需要什么食物的信息最终传递到食物生产者那儿,目的是满足最终用户的需要。故选A项。
61.What
can
we
infer
from
Paragraph
3?

62.What
does
the
example
of
producing
chairs
on
trees
show?
A.No
furniture
will
be
made.
B.Humans
can
control
plants.
C.Trees
can
produce
everything.
D.Fruit
will
be
in
the
shape
of
tables.

will
also
be
able
to
control
plants
in
other
ways.”及后面的举例可知,那个例子是用来表明我们可以控制植物的。
C
Nearly
all
our
food
comes
from
the
soil.
Some
of
us
eat
meat,
of
course,
but
animals
live
on
plants.
If
there
were
no
plants,
we
would
have
no
animals
and
no
meat.
So
the
soil
is
very
necessary
for
life.
The
top
of
the
ground
is
usually
covered
with
grass
or
other
plants.
There
may
be
dead
leaves
and
dead
plants
on
the
grass.
The
waste
matter(粪)
from
animals
also
falls
on
it.
All
soil
needs
food.
If
we
do
not
give
it
any,
the
plants
will
be
weak.
Farmers
found
that
animals'
waste
is
the
best
food
for
the
soil,
but
chemical
fertilizers(化肥)
are
also
very
useful.
The
same
crop
should
not
be
grown
in
the
same
place
every
year;
it's
better
to
have
a
different
crop.
A
change
of
crop
and
the
use
of
a
good
fertilizer
will
keep
the
land
good.
文章大意:本文为议论文,文章认为几乎所有的食物都来自土壤,而土壤同样需要食物,并对此给出了重要的见解。
63.What
would
happen
first
without

meat.”可知如果没有了植物,我们就没有了动物和肉类,B项符合语境。
64.What
does
the
writer
tell
us
in
the
first
paragraph?
A.Leaves,
plants,
grass
and
waste
live
on
each
other.
B.There
would
be
no
animals
without
meat.
C.There
would
be
no
plants
without
animals.
D.People,
animals,
plants
and
soil
live
on
each
other.
答案:D 段落大意题。第一段主要讲人、动物、植物和土壤的生存彼此依赖,互相联系,故选D。
65.Which
is
the
best
food
for
soil
in
the
field?
A.Chemical
fertilizers.
B.Plants
and
grass.
C.Animals'
waste.
D.Different
crops.
答案:C 细节理解题。由第二段第三句“Farmers
found
that
animals'
waste
is
the
best
food
for
the
soil...”可知选C。
66.Why
do
we
often
grow
a
different
crop
in
the
same
place
every
year?
A.Because
we
can
keep
the
soil
rich
this
way.
B.Because
we
don't
have
enough
land.
C.Because
we
want
to
have
a
different
food.
D.Because
we
do
this
as
a
habit.
答案:A 细节理解题。由第二段最后一句“A
change
of
crop
and
the
use
of
a
good
fertilizer
will
keep
the
land
good.”可知本题答案为A。
D
Organic
food
is
very
popular.
It
is
also
expensive.
Some
organic
food
costs
twice
as
much
as
non?organic
food.
Some
parents
and
pet
owners
pay
up
to
200
percent
more
for
organic
food
while
some
people
think
organic
food
is
a
waste
of
money.
There
is
one
main
difference
between
organic
and
non?organic
food.
Organic
farms
do
not
use
agricultural
chemicals,
such
as
pesticides(杀虫剂).
This
guarantees
that
the
products
are
natural.
Some
people
think
“organic”
means
“locally
grown”.
Originally
this
was
true.
Over
time
organic
farming
became
more
difficult.
The
demand
for
organic
food
grew
larger
than
the
supply.
Small
companies
had
to
sell
out
to
large
companies.
There
weren't
enough
organic
materials.
This
made
it
difficult
for
many
organic
companies
to
stay
in
business.
Today,
many
large
companies
have
an
organic
line
of
products.
Is
organic
food
more
nutritious(有营养的)?
This
is
part
of
the
debate.
Many
farmers
and
consumers(消费者)
believe
it
is.
They
think
agricultural
chemicals
cause
health
problems
such
as
cancer.
Many
health
professionals
disagree.
Few
studies
prove
that
organic
food
prevents
health
problems.
Health
specialists
worry
more
about
bacteria.
These
can
come
into
contact
with
organic
and
non?organic
food.
Doctors
recommend
washing
produce
very
carefully.
Most
people
agree
that
naturally?grown
food
tastes
better.
Is
tastier
food
worth
the
extra
money?
This
is
a
matter
of
opinion.
Whether
it
is
healthier
or
not
may
require
more
research.
However,
organic
food
consumers
argue
it
is
better
to
be
safe
than
sorry.
文章大意:文章分段讨论了人们在有机食物的价格、有机食物是否更有营养等方面持有的不同观点。
67.It
can
be
inferred
from
the
passage
that
________.
A.organic
farming
is
better
for
the
environment
B.organic
food
is
healthier
than
non?organic
food
C.the
author
believes
organic
food
is
more
nutritious
D.parents
often
complain
about
the
high
prices
of
organic
food
答案:A 推理判断题。根据第二段第二句中的“Organic
farms
do
not
use
agricultural
chemicals”可以推断,有机耕作相对来说更环保。
68.What
does
the
author
point
out
in
Paragraph
3?
A.Most
organic
food
is
locally
grown
nowadays.
B.Organic
farming
once
experienced
a
difficult
period.
C.Organic
food
tastes
better
than
non?organic
food.
D.Organic
companies
find
it
difficult
to

Investing(投资)
in
agricultural
research
and

fight
hunger
and

A
new
study
says
investments
in
sub?Saharan
Africa
increased
by
more
than
twenty
percent
between
2001
and
2008.
However,
the
study
also
found
that
just
a
few
countries

responsible

most
of
that
growth.
Nigeria
was
responsible
for
one?third
of
it.
Ghana,
Tanzania,
Sudan
and
Uganda
also
increased
their

but
13
countries
reduced
their

Nienke

led
the
study.
She
says
new

some
of
the

She
said,
“Changes

and
climate
change
create
the
demand
for
better
technologies
or
different

these
issues.”
She
says
some
countries,
including
Nigeria,
have
enhanced
their

after
spending
far
too
little
in
the
past.
Nigeria
now
has
the
largest
agricultural
research
system
south
of
the

That
is
one
measure
of
progress.
But
Nienke
Beintema
says
a
better
measure
is
that
a
country
spends
more
than
one
percent
of
its
agricultural
money
on
research.
And
in
2008,
she
says,
Nigeria
was
not
doing
that.
Botswana,
Burundi,
Kenya,
Mauritania
and
Mauritius
were
spending
more
than
one

So
were
Namibia,
South
Africa
and
Uganda.
Ms
Bientema
examined

research
centers
in

She
believes
most

Many
donations
are
short?term,
she
says,
and
the
research

has
been
spent.
Ms
Bientema
says
countries
must
improve
their
higher

But
the
study
has
found
that
new
researchers
are
not

in
some
countries
because
of
budget
(预算)
problems.
At
the
same
time,
many
older
researchers
are
nearing

age.

71.What
is
the
main
idea
of
this
passage?
A.Poor
African
countries
are
looking
for
donations.
B.Many
African
countries
are
suffering
from
hunger
and

C.Many
African
countries
are
not
investing
enough
in
agricultural
research.
D.Poor
African
countries
have
no
way
to
fight
against
hunger
and
poverty.
答案:C 主旨大意题。通读全文,可知文章虽然讲到了非洲一些国家增加了在农业研究方面的投资,但侧重点还是讲投资太少,故选C。

can
infer
Nienke
Beintema
hopes
that
________.
A.no
international
donations
will
be
provided
for
African
countries

will
reduce
investments
in
agri?cultural
research
D.researchers
will
spend
more
time
in
finding
the
causes
of
hunger
in

in
food

more
than
one
percent
of
its
agricultural

And

not
doing
that.”可知应选D。

the
last
paragraph,

hired?
A.Because
they
are
not
qualified.
B.Because

to
be
hired.
C.Because
the
budget
for
researchers
is

阅读下面的短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
Trees
should
only
be
pruned(修剪)when
there
is
a
good
and
clear
reason
for
doing
so
and,
the
number
of
such
reasons
is
small.
Pruning
involves
the
cutting
away
of
overgrown
and
unwanted
branches,
and
the
inexperienced
gardener
can
be
encouraged
by
the
thought
that
more
damage
results
from
doing
it
unnecessarily
than
from
leaving
the
tree
to
grow
in
its
own
way.
Firstly,
pruning
may
be
done
to
make
sure
that
trees
have
a
desired
shape
or
size.
The
object
may
be
to
get
a
tree
of
the
right
height,
and
at
the
same
time
to
help
the
growth
of
small
side
branches,
which
will
thicken
its
appearance
or
give
it
a
special
shape.
Secondly,
pruning
may
be
done
to
make
the
tree
healthier.
You
may
cut
out
diseased
or
dead
wood,
or
branches
that
are
rubbing
against
each
other
and
thus
cause
wounds.
The
health
of
a
tree
may
be
encouraged
by
removing
branches
that
are
blocking
up
the
center
and
so
preventing
the
free
movement
of
air.
One
result
of
pruning
is
that
an
open
wound
is
left
on
the
tree
and
this
provides
an
easy
entry
for
disease,
but
it
is
a
wound
that
will
heal
(recover).Often
there
is
a
race
between
the
healing
and
the
disease
as
to
whether
the
tree
will
live
or
die,
so
that
there
is
a
period
when
the
tree
is
at
risk.
It
should
be
the
aim
of
every
gardener
to
reduce
that
risk
of
death
as
far
as
possible.
It
is
important
to
make
the
area,
which
has
been
pruned,
smooth
and
clean,
for
healing
will
be
slowed
down
by
roughness.
You
should
allow
the
cut
surface
to
dry
for
a
few
hours
and
then
paint
it
with
one
of
the
materials
available
from
garden
shops
produced
especially
for
this
purpose.
Pruning
is
usually
done
in
winter,
for
then
you
can
see
the
shape
of
the
tree
clearly
without
interference(妨碍)from
the
leaves
and
also
it
is
very
unlikely
that
the
cuts
you
make
will
bleed.
If
this
does
happen,
it
is,
of
course,
impossible
to
paint
them
properly.
文章大意:园艺是很有趣、很享受的工作,但是并不意味着做起来很轻松。一个好的园丁必须技术熟练并有丰富的园艺知识,否则植物就得不到良好的照料。修枝就是这样一种技术活。
56.Why
should
pruning
be
done?
A.To
make
the
tree
grow
taller.
B.To
get
rid
of
the
small
branches.
C.To
improve
the
shape
of
the
tree.
D.To
make
the
small
branches
thicker.
答案:C 细节理解题。根据第二段的句子:“Firstly,
pruning
may
be
done
to
make
sure
that
trees
have
a
desired
shape
or
size.”可知修剪树的一个原因是改善树的形状。所以选C。
57.Trees
become
unhealthy
if
the
gardener
________.
A.allows
too
many
branches
to
grow
in
the
middle
B.does
not
protect
them
from
the
wind
C.damages
some
of
the
small
side
branches
D.forces
them
to
grow
too
quickly
答案:A 细节理解题。根据第二段的句子:“The
health
of
a
tree
may
be
encouraged
by
removing
branches
that
are
blocking
up
the
center
and
so
preventing
the
free
movement
of
air.”可知如果树的中心有太多的树枝生长,这个树就不会太健康,所以选A。
58.What
was
the
writer's
purpose
when
writing
the
article?
A.To
discuss
different
methods
of
pruning.
B.To
introduce
some
common
knowledge
of
pruning.
C.To
explain
how
trees
develop
disease.
D.To
give
practical
instruction
for
pruning
a
tree.
答案:B 主旨大意题。根据全文可知第一段讲的是修剪树的原因,第二段讲的是修剪树的方法,第三段是修剪树会带来的危害,所以这篇文章是介绍了修剪树的知识。所以选B。
B
Throughout
history
there
have
always
been
people
who
can
make
other
people
laugh.
Early
clowns
often
both
annoyed
and
delighted
listeners
with
their
comments
and
songs.
They
were
not
the
silent
performers
seen
in
today's
circus
rings.
Clowns
lost_their_voices
when
the
big
three?ring
circuses
made
it
impossible
for
the
audience
to
hear
them.
Circus
clowns
give
performances
in
various
ways.
Walk?around
clowns
use
an
animal
or
something,
like
a
huge
rubber
hammer,
as
part
of
their
performance.
A
carpet
clown
moves
around,
talking
with
the
audience
and
performing
while
the
acts
change
in
the
rings.
Then
there
are
acrobatic
clowns,
riding
clowns,
juggling
clowns
and
others.
Everything
a
clown
does
looks
easy,
but
it
is
not.
Making
people
laugh
can
be
hard
work.
Clowns
must
be
in
good
physical
condition
to
prevent
injuries.
Each
funny
move
is
carefully
timed
and
well?rehearsed
(排练).
Most
clowns
have
also
been
trained
as
acrobats,
jugglers
or
aerial
artists,
and
many
include
such
skills
into
their
acts.
Generally,
there
are
three
types
of
circus
clowns—whiteface,
auguste
and
character.
Each
has
a
special
makeup
and
clothes.
Each
has
a
typical
act
as
well.
The
neat
whiteface
is
usually
a
strict,
in?charge
character
who
sets
up
the
punch
line
(the
point
of
a
joke)
with
a
partner
who
is
typically
an
auguste.
His
facial
makeup
is
neatly
detailed
in
red
or
black,
and
his
clothes
look
so
loose
with
a
ruffle
around
the
neck.
Old
circus
stories
have
it
that
the
auguste
clown
got
his
name
from
a
German
nickname
for
someone
who
is
clumsy,
acting
in
a
careless
and
stupid
way.
The
auguste
wears
light?coloured
makeup,
but
white
is
used
around
the
mouth
and
eyes,
and
there's
a
big
red
nose.
This
clown
performs
a
great
deal
of
humour.
An
oversized
suit
or
baggy
trousers
allow
freedom
of
movement
for
all
the
clumsy
acts.
He
also
wears
big
shoes.
Character
clowns
perform
as
different
characters—cowboys,
grandmothers
or
concert
conductors.
The
most
famous
character
clown,
however,
is
the
tramp
(流浪汉).
Tramps
wear
different
styles
of
makeup
and
torn
clothes.
Some
tramp
clowns
are
happy?go?lucky.
Others
are
extremely
sad.
Still
others
act
like
gentlemen
who
just
happen
to
be
out
of
money.

fact,
Marie
worked
for
six
years
to
support
her
elder
sister
Bronya.
When
Bronya
finished
medicine
at
the
Sorbonne
in
Paris
in
1891,
24?year?old
Marie
went
to
Paris
to
begin
her
own
education.
In
July
1893,
Marie
passed
her
physics
examination
first
in
her
class
at
university.
At
this
time,
she
met
Pierre
Curie,
a
young
scientist.
Marie
and
Pierre
discovered
that
they
had
much
in
common.
They
both
believed
that
science
was
the
most
important
part
of
their
lives.
They
didn't
care
about
money
or
about
being
comfortable.
They
fell
in
love,
and
got
married
on
July
26,
1895.
Marie
and
Pierre
Curie
were
very
happy.
They
discussed
their
work
and
the
latest
scientific
events,
such
as
the
discovery
of
X
rays.
Marie
was
interested
in
this
research,
and
began
to
look
for
unknown
elements
that
had
such
rays.
Pierre
Curie
stopped
his
own
research
in
order
to
help
Marie
with
her
work.
He
realized
that
she
was
about
to
make
an
important
discovery.
In
1898,
the
Curies
found
two
new
elements
that
gave
off
radiation.
They
named
these
elements
polonium
and
radium.
In
those
days,
no
one
knew
that
such
radioactive
materials
were
dangerous.
In
fact,
Marie
Curie
created
the
word
“radioactive”
to
describe
these
materials.
They
kept
working.
Finally,
in
1902,
they
proved
the
existence
of
radium.
On
June
25,
1903,
Marie
became
the
first
woman
to
receive
the
doctor's
degree
of
science
from
the
Sorbonne.
Then,
in
1903,
the
Academy
of
Science
at
Stockholm,
Sweden
awarded
the
Nobel
Prize
for
physics
to
Marie
and
Pierre
Curie
and
Henri
Becquerei
for
their
discoveries
in
radioactivity.
On
a
rainy
day
in
April,
1906,
Pierre
was
killed
in
a
street
accident.
Marie
was
heartbroken,
but
she
continued
working.
Then,
in
1910,
she
isolated
radium.
It
was
the
biggest
accomplishment
of
Marie
Curie's
career.
In
1911,
she
received
the
Nobel
Prize
again,
for
chemistry.
She
was
the
first
woman
to
receive
the
Nobel
Prize,
and
the
first
person
to
receive
it
a
second
time.

became
one
of
America's
most
powerful
women.
Despite
a
privileged
background,
Katharine
had
to

with
the
high
demands
her
mother
placed
on
her.
Katharine's
love
of
journalism,
which
she

with
her
father,
led
to
her
career
after
college
at
the
Washington
Post,
the
newspaper
her
father
bought
in
1933.
At
the
Post,

While
Phil's
successful

of
the
Washington
social
scene,
Katharine
privately
suffered
tremendous
pain
from
her

caused
by
severe
depression.
When
Phil
committed
suicide(自杀),46?year?old

found
herself
thrown
into
a
new
job,
as
a
newspaper
publisher.
But
determined

to
the
challenge
of
running
the
Post,
attending
meetings
in
every
department,
working
endlessly
to
prove
herself
to
her
critics,
and
becoming
the
toast
of
Washington.
In
1971,
Katharine
ordered
the
Post
to
print
a
copy
of
the
Pentagon
Papers,
the
top?secret
documents
revealing
the
truth
about
the
United
States'
involvement
in
the
Vietnam
War.
What's
more,
her
courageous
decision
and
support
for
her
journalists
prepared
the
Post
to
break
the
most
important
political
story
in
modern
history:Watergate(水门事件),one
of
the
greatest
scandals(丑闻)in
American

chaotic
situations
when
it
was

woman
in
America.

She
found
that
in
order
to
achieve
this,
she
needed
to
recognize
individual
gorillas,
which
required
that
the
gorillas
get
used
to
her

By
copying
gorillas'
behaviour
and
sounds,
Fossey
began
to
gain
their
trust,
and
in
1970
an

bring
forth
new
knowledge
about
their
behaviour.
Stories

photographs
of
her
work
were

B
For
any
person
who
must
speak
in
public,
to
business
or
pleasure
groups,
humor
is
a
helpful
and
necessary
tool
for
getting
your
message
across.
Why
does
humor
work
a
lot?
There
are
several
reasons.
People
will
enjoy
what
you
have
to
say
if
it
is
presented
with
humor.
But,more
importantly,if
you
are
in
a
situation
where
important,and
perhaps
controversial
(有争议的)
,ideas
must
be
presented
to
less
than
open
minds,
humor
allows
those
ideas
to
be
presented
in
a
non?threatening(无威胁的)
manner.
Abraham
Lincoln
was
famous
for
his
ability
to
relate
humorous
stories
to
make
a
point.
Humor
used
carefully
throughout
a
presentation
will
also
keep
the
listeners'
interest
high.
In
a
word,individuals
learning
how
to
use
humor
in
their
speeches
can
strengthen
arguments,
support
interesting
presentations
and,
most
of
all,entertain
their
audience
in
a
positive
and
comfortable
way.
While
popular
culture
may
well
hold
many
kinds
of
humor,some
of
it
has
no
place
in
presentations
that
are
designed
to
educate
and
encourage
the
audience.
If
you
want
to
become
a
professional
excellent
comedian
whose
goal
is
100%
entertainment,
then
you
may
be
able
to
use
some
of
the
reference
materials
like
The
Art
of
Using
Humor
in
Public
Speaking.
They
can
help
you
develop
your
skills
and
sources
of
humor.
To
that
end,_your
participation
in
this
study
of
humor
will
become
necessary.
Hopefully,
you
will
come
to
appreciate
the
special
difficulty
of
entertaining
the
audience
with
good
and
clean
humor.

was
good
for
training
one's
skills
of
humor.

Would
it
surprise
you
to
learn
that,
like
animals,
trees
communicate
with
each
other
and
pass
on
their
wealth
to
the
next
generation?
UBC
Professor
Simard
explains
how
trees
are
much
more
complex
than
most
of
us
ever
imagined.
Although
Charles
Darwin
thought
that
trees
are
competing
for
survival
of
the
fittest,
Simard
shows
just
how
wrong
he
was.
In
fact,
the_opposite_is_true:_trees
survive
through
their
co?operation
and
support,
passing
around
necessary
nutrition
“depending
on
who
needs
it”.
Nitrogen
(氮)
and
carbon
are
shared
through
miles
of
underground
fungi
(真菌)networks,
making
sure
that
all
trees
in
the
forest
ecological
system
give
and
receive
just
the
right
amount
to
keep
them
all
healthy.
This
hidden
system
works
in
a
very
similar
way
to
the
networks
of
neurons
(神经元)
in
our
brains,
and
when
one
tree
is
destroyed,
it
affects
all.
Simard
talks
about
“mother
trees”,
usually
the
largest
and
oldest
plants
on
which
all
other
trees
depend.
She
explains
how
dying
trees
pass
on
the
wealth
to
the
next
generation,
transporting
important
minerals
to
young
trees
so
they
may
continue
to
grow.
When
humans
cut
down
“mother
trees”
with
no
awareness
of
these
highly
complex
“tree
societies”
or

E
I
have
heard
having
a
good
sense
of
humour
often
helps
in
breaking
the
ice.
Also
people
remember
you
because
of
your
humour.
But
I
think
I
don't
have
a
very
good
sense
of
humour.
Could
you
suggest
how
to
build
on
this?
——Radha
Karnik
This
is
a
great
question
that
is
unfortunately
difficult
to
answer.
I
can
only
give
you
my
views
on
this
topic,
which
may
or
may
not
be
correct.
I
know
that
my
sense
of
humour
developed
over
time.
When
I
was
younger
I
was
not
funny
at
all;
now
I
can
easily
make
people
laugh.
At
the
same
time,
sometimes
I
say
things
that
I
think
are
very
funny
but
others
do
not.
Improving
wit
and
humour,
I
believe,
is
an
ongoing
process.
Now,
there
are
various
forms
of
humour
and
everyone
has
their
individual
style.
Overall,
I
believe
being
fluent
in
a
language
is
very
important
for
being
witty
or
funny.
The
way
we
play
around
with
words
adds
the
“funny”
tag
to
an
otherwise
normal
sentence.
Also,
seeing
irony
is
very
important.
I
think
humour
is
often
the
link
between
two
unrelated
things.
In
my
experience,
laughing
frequently
and
appreciating
other
people's
jokes
and
wit
are
very
important.
Within
these,
finding
humour
in
everyday
normal
situations
is
the
key.
I
often
notice
what
is
going
on
around
me
and
say
funny
things
in
my
head
and
laugh
to
myself.
That
serves
almost
as
practice
for
when
I
am
in
a
group.
I
watch
comedy
shows
and
movies
and
I
am
sure
that
has
some
effect
on
helping
me
improve
my
sense
of
humour.
And
last,
having
confidence
that
you
are
witty
is
important.
There
will
always
be
someone
wittier
or
funnier
than
you,
which
is
fine.
Just
work
on
building
your
own
style.
Remember,
if
you
are
trying
to
be
funny
and
witty
in
order
to
break
the
ice
at
a
business
function,
be
careful.
In
those
situations,
humour
has
to
be
mild
and
politically
correct.
Yours,
Brad

文章大意:本文是一篇夹叙夹议的文章。作者11岁那年在朋友家做作业的时候,恰好朋友母亲的一位朋友来访。作者跟她握手时,对方发现她握手的方式不对,立即耐心地教给她握手的正确方式,作者深受感动。
36.A.else
B.even
C.still
D.otherwise
答案:B 作者此处的表达方式类似于欲擒故纵,为后面对方教给她正确的握手方式让她铭记做铺垫。为了突出后面事物的重要程度,所以用even。而or
else连在一起,意思是“否则的话”,相当于otherwise,不符合语境。
37.A.figure
B.arms
C.eyes
D.hands
答案:D 纵观全文,作者对别人教给她正确的握手方式念念不忘,因此文章围绕着“握手”这一中心话题展开,令作者难以忘怀的自然也是对方的手。
38.A.expectation
B.introduction
C.interview
D.reception
答案:B 根据语境和常识判断,作者和对方是第一次见面,所以要互相介绍、握手,从而引出握手的故事。因此应选B。其他选项显然都脱离了文章的具体语境。
39.A.how
B.when
C.why
D.where
答案:A 根据语境和常识判断,作者当时是一个11岁的孩子,因此不知道“怎样”跟别人握手,即不知道握手的正确方式,这是很自然的事情。其他引导词显然违背了文章的原意。
40.A.procedure
B.value
C.attraction
D.importance
答案:D 看到作者不知道怎样跟别人握手,对方教给她正确的握手方式,很自然地会谈到正确握手的重要性。因此正确选项为D。四个选项中干扰性比较大的是value“价值”,用来修饰“握手”这一行为,显然不妥当。
41.A.indicating
B.conveying
C.predicting
D.producing
答案:B 此处是对方向作者介绍正确握手的重要性:正确的握手方式能够把自己积极的一面传达出去。convey表示“传达(意义、讯息)”,indicate“暗示;预示”;predict“预言”;produce“生产;产品”。
42.A.self
B.pride
C.others
D.impression
答案:A 根据具体的语境和常识判断,正确的握手方式能够显示握手者自己的形象,因此用self。
43.A.preserve
B.occur
C.matter
D.last
答案:C 根据常识判断,人们初次握手时会给对方留下第一印象,因此,第一次见面的时刻非常重要,所以选动词matter,当“关键;重要”讲。
44.A.manners
B.equality
C.charm
D.respect
答案:D 文章下文多次提到“respect”,握手这一动作显然能够体现对彼此的尊重,而作者此刻也明白了什么是尊重。故正确选项为D。其他选项显然没有很好地理解作者的意图。
45.A.time
B.chance
C.efforts
D.occasion
答案:A 作者非常感激,因为对方并没有忽视或敷衍作者,而是拿出时间来非常耐心地教给她这些道理。It
takes
sb.
time
to
do
sth.“花费某人时间做……”。
46.A.recalled
B.preferred
C.appreciated
D.realized
答案:C 文中好几次提到作者对对方的感激,因此此处还是表达作者的感激之情,appreciate“感激;欣赏”为正确选项。
47.A.look
B.stand
C.bend
D.talk
答案:D 作者非常感激对方,还有一个重要原因是对方没有把自己当作一个孩子看待,没有摆出大人跟小孩说话时居高临下的姿态。此处强调对方跟作者谈话的方式,因此正确选项为D。bend
down“弯下腰来”,look
down
upon/on“瞧不起;歧视”。
48.A.know
B.like
C.feel
D.correct
答案:A 根据语境判断,此处作者还是说明自己对“握手”的无知,所以选know。其他动词显然不符合文意。
49.A.reminded
B.treated
C.taught
D.helped
答案:B 此处作者作了概括,作者感激对方是因为对方对自己的尊重,即以平等的方式对待自己。故正确选项为B。C项表示“教育、教学”的方式,显然过于片面。
50.A.close
B.good
C.real
D.great
答案:C 承接上文,作者为自己能够被当作一个真正的人来对待感到高兴。根据语境和常识判断,可排除D,因为a
great
person表示“伟人”。故正确选项为C。
51.A.general
B.extreme
C.realistic
D.wrong
答案:A 根据语境判断,此处作者非常感激对方,因为对方没有按照普遍的观点来对待一个11岁的孩子。大人很容易把一个11岁的孩子当作小孩来对待,这不能说是“极端”,也不能说这是“错误”,因此不选B或D。
52.A.short
B.careful
C.aware
D.fond
答案:C 对方向作者灌输了一种观点:当别人不知道,或者没有意识到什么事情的时候,要教对方。be
aware
of意思是“意识到”,符合语境和句意,C为正确选项。
53.A.way
B.direction
C.aspect
D.stage
答案:B 极易受汉语思维的影响而选way。in
the
right
way表示“以正确的方式”,而此作者表达的意思是:把对方引导到正确的方向上来。故正确选项为B。
54.A.knowledge
B.sense
C.wisdom
D.experience
答案:A 上文中作者叙述学会了正确的握手方式,这显然是一种“知识”,而不是“经验”或“智慧”,因此此处作者的用意是号召大家分享自己的知识。
55.A.important
B.strange
C.familiar
D.new
答案:D 如果不能把握全文的主旨和作者的用意,本题非常容易错选A。文章叙述的是学会握手的过程,因此每当第一次见到一个人的时候,作者都会情不自禁地想起朋友母亲的那位朋友,用new符合逻辑。someone
strange意思是“奇怪的人”,要表达“陌生人”,英语用stranger。
第三部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
阅读下面的短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
We
use
both
words
and
gestures
to
express
our
feelings,
but
the
problem
is
that
these
words
and
gestures
can
be
understood
in
different
ways.
It
is
true
that
a
smile
means
the
same
thing
in
any
language.
So
does
laughter
and
crying.
There
are
also
a
number
of
striking
similarities
in
the
way
different
animals
show
the
same
feelings.
Dogs,
tigers
and
humans,
for
example,
often
show
their
teeth
when
they
are
angry.
This
is
probably
because
they
are
born
with
those
behavior
patterns.
Fear
is
another
emotion
that
is
shown
in
much
the
same
way
all
over
the
world.
In
Chinese
and
in
English
literature,
a
phrase
like“he
went
pale
and
began
to
tremble”suggests
that
the
man
is
either
very
afraid
or
he
has
just
got
a
very
big
shock.
However,
“he
opened
his
eyes
wide”is
used
to
suggest
anger
in
China
whereas
in
English
it
means
surprise.
In
Chinese“surprise”can
be
described
in
a
phrase
like
they
stretch
out
their
tongues!
Sticking
out
your
tongue
in
English
is
an
insulting
gesture
or
expresses
strong
dislike.
Even
in
the
same
culture,
people
differ
in
ability
to
understand
and
express
feelings.
Experiments
in
America
have
shown
that
women
are
usually
better
than
men
at
recognizing
fear,
anger,
love
and
happiness
on
people's
faces.
Other
studies
show
that
older
people
usually
find
it
easier
to
recognize
or
understand
body
language
than
younger
people
do.
56.According
to
the
passage,________.
A.we
can
hardly
understand
what
people's
gestures
mean
B.we
can
not
often
be
sure
what
people
mean
when
they
describe
their
feelings
in
words
or
gestures
C.words
can
be
better
understood
by
older
people
D.gestures
can
be
understood
by
most
of
the
people
while
words
can
not
答案:B 由文章首段第一句:“我们”用语言和动作来表达感情,但问题是这些语言和动作会有不同的理解方式。B项与该句意思相符。
57.People's
facial
expressions
may
be
misunderstood
because________.
A.people
of
different
ages
may
have
different
under?standing
B.people
have
different
cultures
C.people
of
different
sex
may
understand
a
gesture
in
a
different
way
D.people
of
different
countries
speak
different
languages
答案:B 由文章最后一段第一句“Even
in
the
same
culture,...”可知第二段中讲述的人们面部表情可能会被误解,原因在于人们的文化背景不同。
58.In
the
same
culture,________.
A.people
have
different
abilities
to
understand
and
express
feelings
B.people
have
the
same
understanding
of
something
C.people
never
fail
to
understand
each
other
D.people
are
equally
intelligent
答案:A 由末段第一句“Even
in
the...express
feelings.”可知A项正确。

C
Your
gestures
and
how
you
hold
yourself
during
a
presentation
convey
as
much
as
words
might.
You
should
face
the
audience
rather
than
turn
your
back
to
them.
Here
are
some
more
tips.
Don't
gaze
down.
Never
look
away
from
your
audience.
Never
lose
eye
contact
with
those
who
have
come
to
hear
you
speak.
Eye
contact
helps
you
connect
with
people
and
win
their
trust.
Don't
play
with
your
hands.
Playing
with
your
hands
is
distracting.
Unless
you
are
pointing
to
something
in
your
presentation
or
making
a
big
movement,
keep
your
hands
by
your
side.
Don't
turn
away
from
the
audience.
“Nobody
wants
to
look
at
your
back,”
says
Rosenthal,
CEO
of
Communispond
in
East
Hampton,
NY.
And
you
often
can't
be
heard
if
you
are
speaking
to
the
screen.
Rosenthal
likes
the
“think,
turn,
talk”
method.
Look
at
an
item
you
are
discussing
to
gather
your
thoughts,
turn
to
look
at
the
audience,
and
then
start
speaking.
Don't
roll
your
eyes.
You
don't
want
to
distract
your
audience
with
visual
effects
like
rolling
your
eyes.
This
is
especially
true
when
you're
responding
to
questions,
or
comments,
and
you
don't
want
to
appear
impatient.
Don't
chortle(咯咯笑).
“Nobody
wants
to
see
a
clown
performing
unless,
of
course,
you're
at
the
circus,”
says
Rosenthal.
Don't
haw(支吾).
Do
your
best
to
avoid
“filler”
words.
Keep
the
“um”,
“you
know”
and
“like”
out
of
your
speech.
Don't
look
messy.
You
should
be
neat
and
organized.
Dress
for
the
environment.
So
what
should
you
do?
Smile.
Stand.
Make
eye
contact.
Open
your
arms.
Speak
loudly.
Rosenthal
says,
“Plan
for
success.
Look
good,
sound
good,
and
know
your
material.”

keep
our
hands
by
our
side
C.never
make
big
movements
D.never

in
your
presentation
or
making
a
big
movement,
keep
your
hands
by
your
side.”可知应选B。
65.What

can't
be
heard
if
you
are
speaking
to
the

speech.”可知应选D。
D
No
matter
how
well
you
understand
a
foreign
language,
misunderstanding
still
exists
between
native
speakers
and
you.
Here
is
such
an
example.
Three
young
Frenchmen
were
travelling
in
Britain.
Though
they
had
taken
a
few
English
lessons
before
their
holiday,
they
were
often
in
trouble
because
of
their
misunderstanding
of
English.
One
day
they
talked
about
their
misfortunes(不幸)
together.
The
first
Frenchman
said,
“I
once
heard
someone
shout
‘Look
out’,
I
put
my
head
out
of
a
window
and
a
bucket(一桶)
of
water
fell
on
me.”
The
second
Frenchman
said,
“I
was
once
in
a
ship
and
heard
the
captain
shouted,
‘All
hands
on
decks(甲板).’
I
put
my
hands
on
the
deck
and
someone
walked
on
them.”
The
third
Frenchman
said,
“I
once
called
early
on
an
English
friend
and
the
maid
(女佣)
who
came
to
the
door
said,‘He's
not
up
yet’
When
I
went
again
for
him,
she
said,‘He's
not
down
yet’.
I
said,
‘If
he's
not
up
and
he's
not
down,where
is
he?’
She
said,‘He's
still
upstairs
now.
When
I
told
you
he
was
not
up
I
meant
he
had
not
got
up
yet,
so
he
has
not
come
downstairs
by
now.’”
文章大意:无论我们对一门外语掌握得有多好,我们和以该外语为母语的人之间存在的误解总是无法避免的。
67.Which
of
the
following
would
be
the
best
title
for
the
passage?
A.Misunderstanding
of
English
B.Three
Young
Frenchmen
C.Misfortunes
of

English
Lessons
答案:A 主旨大意题。文章讲的是有关使用英语时造成的一些误解。故选A。
68.When
someone
is
calling
“look
out”
to
you,
he
probably
wants
you
to________.
A.put
your
head
out
of
the
window
B.receive
a
bucket
of
water
C.be
careful
D.go
away
答案:C 词义猜测题。第三段介绍第一个法国人听到“look
out”,误以为是“往外看”,结果一桶水掉到他头上。故可推断look
out意为“当心,小心”,与becareful同义。
69.The
sentence
“All
hands
on

may
mean
________.
A.you
should
put
your
hands
on
the
deck
B.everyone
should
get
ready
C.someone
walks
over
one's
hands
D.someone
is
making
fun
of
a
foreigner
答案:B 句意理解题。第四段介绍第二个法国人听到这句话时以为船长叫大家把手放在甲板上,结果他的手被别人踩过,根据上下文可推断这是船长提醒大家做好准备。故选B。
70.The
third
Frenchman
made
a

________.
A.in
visiting
a
friend
at
an
improper
time
B.in
recognizing
the
maid
C.in

a
key
in
understanding
children's
feelings
and
thoughts.
The
following
are
the
basic
components
of
body
language
of
children:
Face—Shortly
after
birth,a
baby
shows
facial
expression
reflecting
innermost(内心深处的)
feelings.
At
the
age
of
three,
a
child
has
different
innermost
emotional
expressions.
Posture—Once
toddlers(学步的儿童)
begin
to
move,
they
show
a
variety
of
body
postures.
For
example,
when
they
move
slowly
and
hunch
their
shoulders(耸肩),
it
means
they
are
sad.
Hands
and
fingers—If
your
children
close
their
hands
and
clench
them
light,
they
are
certainly
upset
and
angry.
However,
if
their
fingers
open
and
their
arms
hang
beside
their
body,
it
means
that
they
are
relaxed.
Foot—If
your
children
move
their
foot
forward
and
backward,
it
indicates
that
they
are
thinking
about
something
or
they
may
feel
guilty
about
what
they
have
said,
or
they
are
frightened.
Distance—When
a
child
is
in
a
bad
mood,
he
creates
a
distance
between
you
and
him
by
sitting
in
the
opposite
corner
of
the
room.
Otherwise,
he
wants
to
hug
you
when
he
is
frightened.
It
is
better
for
you
to
understand
some
facts
about
body
language
in
order
to
build
a
better
relationship
between
you
and
your
child.
The
following
points
are
some
facts
about
body
language:
Body
language
is
more
often
used
than
spoken
language.
The
results
of
a
study
showed
that
less
than
10%
of
emotion
was
expressed
in
words,
but
more
than
90%
was
expressed
in
body
language.
Words
are
more
often
used
by
children
to
communicate
the
facts,
while
body
language
is
used
to
communicate
emotions.
Body
language
is
less
controllable
than
spoken
language.
Smile,
body
postures,
the
movement
of
hands
and
feet,
eye
contact,
and
other
gestures
are
done
unconsciously.
When
you
are
trying
to
understand
a
child's
body
language,
do
not
forget
that
body
language
is
not
an
exact
science.
Your
understanding
is
not
always
right.
Increasing
your
experience
by
paying
careful
attention
to
children
in
every
situation
is
the
best
way
to
improve
your
ability
to
read
a
child's
body
language.

Dear_Mr._Headmaster,
I_am_Li_Yue,_a_student_from_Class_1,_Senior_Ⅱ.
I
am
writing
to
draw
you
attention
to
some
improper
behaviour
among
us
students:
littering
and
scribbling.
It
makes
our
school
dirty
and
unpleasant,
and
does
harm
to
the
image
of
our
school.
I
always
feel
ashamed
whenever
I
see
this.
It
is
clearly
not
appropriate
for
a
student
to
litter
and
scribble
about.
I
wonder
if
the
school
could
place
more
dustbins
around
and
set
up
specific
rules
against
such
behaviour.
At
the
same
time,
students
should
be
encouraged
to
develop
good
habits
and
better
behave
themselves.
I
believe
that,
with
the
joint
efforts
of
both
teachers
and
students,
our
school
will
become
a
more
enjoyable
place
in
the
near
future.
Thank
you
for
your
consideration.
Yours_faithfully,
Li_Yue
