1) There be 句型的一般过去时是由一般现在时中的is或are改为was或were构成。若系动词be后的主语是单数可数名词和不可数名词时，该系动词要用 ；若是复数名词则用 。如:
There a garden behind the house in the past.
过去这所房子后有个大花园。
There lots of beautiful flowers in the garden.
这花园里有过许多漂亮花。
2）There be 句型的一般过去的一般疑问句、否定句的构成：
变一般疑问句，将 或 提到句首；变否定句，在was或were 后加 。如:
- a school near here before 这附近以前有个学校吗？
- Yes，there . 是的，有。/ No, there .不，没有。
