文档简介

As I was coming into middle school,Grade 6,I was really excited because my friend Jennifer was going to be in the same school as me!At first, things were great. She introduced me to her friend Amy and we had lots of fun together. Then things started to change.Jennifer had a very strong control desire.I couldn’t make new friends, because she would think that I was mad at her and Amy if I hung out with other people. So I didn’t make new friends, and pretty soon being Jennifer’s friend was a struggle.
Most of the time we gossiped (说闲话) about people, and I soon realized that nobody was good enough for Jennifer. After months of living through school this way,I had really changed.I was moody (易怒的),depressed, lonely, and I didn’t smile much.I spent lots of days trying not to cry,but I felt left out.
Finally, near the very end of the school year,I stopped sitting with Jennifer at lunch and I stopped waiting for her after class.Jennifer quickly announced that I was mad at her.Our friendship fell to pieces.阶段质量评估(四) Unit

第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从各题所给的4个选项(A、B、C、D)中选出最佳选项。
A
Sequoyah
was
born
in
the
1770s
and
grew
up
in
the
Cherokee
village
of
Tuskeegee,Tennessee.He
was
skilled
at
working
with
silver
jewelry
(首饰).One
day
Sequoyah
was
advised
to
put
his
name
on
the
silver
jewelry
he
made.However,he
could
not
write
his
name
because
Cherokee
was
only
a
spoken
language.Sequoyah
decided
to
learn
how
to
write
his
name,so
he
asked
one
of
his
customers
(顾客)
to
teach
him,who
knew
English
very
well.From
that
time
on,Sequoyah
signed
(签名)
his
work
in
English.
Then
Sequoyah
realized
that
a
written
language
was
necessary
for
his
people.In
1809,he
started
by
making
small
drawings,and
then
he
experimented
with
creating
a
letter
for
each
sound
in
the
Cherokee
language.First,Sequoyah
picked
out
all
the
sounds
in
the
Cherokee
language.Then
he
gave
each
sound
a
symbol.Unlike
English,however,no
two
sounds
shared
the
same
symbol.
Sequoyah’s
work
was
difficult
and
took
him
a
lot
of
time.Worse,those
around
Sequoyah
didn’t
understand
what
he
was
doing
with
all
those
strange
symbols.Some
raised
doubts
about
his
work.However,Sequoyah
didn’t
stop
working.In
1821,Sequoyah
completed
his
alphabet
(字母表).Each
symbol
in
the
alphabet
symbolized
one
of
the
eighty?five
sounds
in
the
Cherokee
language.By
saying
the
name
of
each
symbol,a
person
could
read
the
spoken
word.
Sequoyah
taught
the
symbols
to
his
six?year?old
daughter,Ayoka.One
day,they
went
to
visit
the
elders
of
the
Cherokee
Nation.Sequoyah
asked
Ayoka
to
leave
while
he
wrote
down
what
the
elders
said.When
Ayoka
returned,she
read
out
loud
what
Sequoyah
had
written.The
elders
were
stunned.Ayoka
was
able
to
repeat
their
words
without
being
present!Sequoyah’s
alphabet
was
soon
accepted
as
the
written
language
of
the
Cherokee
Nation.
语篇解读 本文是记叙文。文章主要讲述了切罗基语文字的由来。

of
his
customers
C.when
he
moved
to
a

village
D.in

is
made
up
of
eighty?five
letters.
B.It
uses
at
least
two
letters
to

was
created
in
the
early
eighteenth
century.
D.It
was
the
same
as
the
English
alphabet
at
first.
解析: 细节理解题。由第二段中的he...creating
a
letter
for
each
sound和第三段中的the
eighty?five
sounds
in
the
Cherokee
language可知,他发明的字母表中共有85个字母,故选A项。
答案: A
23.The
underlined
word
“stunned”in
the
last
paragraph
probably
means
“________”.
A.worried
B.thankful
C.regretful
D.surprised

silver

答案: C
B
During
an
earthquake,you
should
know
what
to
do.If
the
earthquake
strikes
while
you’re
inside
a
house,you
should
lie
on
the
floor
under
a
strong
table
or
other
furniture.If
there
is
no
furniture,you
can
cover
your
head
with
your
arms
and
keep
still
in
the
corner
of
the
room.You
should
keep
away
from
windows,glass
walls,or
anything
that
can
fall.
If
you
are
in
bed,hold
firmly
onto
your
bed
and
make
use
of
a
pillow
to
safe?guard
your
head.You
may
use
a
doorway
but
only
when
it
is
close
to
you.It
should
also
be
considered
whether
it
is
strong
enough
to
deal
with
the
load.
If
you
are
running
out,do
not
use
lifts,even
if
they
work.Electricity
may
go
out
at
any
time.Many
injuries
happen
when
people
try
to
rush
out.This
means
you
ought
to
stay
in
your
house
or
perhaps
wherever
you
are.
When
you
are
outdoors,you
should
stay
far
from
buildings,power
wires
or
lights.You
should
be
in
the
open
until
the
quake
stops.Remember
that
many
earthquake
deaths
outside
the
house
come
from
falling?apart
walls,flying
glass
and
other
falling
things.
If
an
earthquake
strikes
and
you
are
driving,you
should
pull
up
to
the
side
of
the
highway
and
stop
as
quickly
as
possible.You
ought
not
to
stop
under
trees,buildings
or
energy
wires.Don’t
stop
in
the
middle
of
the
street
as
it
could
trouble
others.
When
trapped,you
shouldn’t
move.Your
mouth
should
be
covered
with
a
piece
of
clothing
or
a
handkerchief.This
is
because
it
is
possible
for
you
to
breathe
in
some
dust.Do
not
shout
whenever
possible.You
should
only
shout
in
the
end
to
get
help
from
rescuers.

many
hours.But
he
always
found
time
to
play
baseball.Even
when
there
were
no
games,Clemente
would
throw
whatever
he
could
find—a
bottle
top
or
an
old

Years
of
practice
made
Clemente
a
skilled
player.When
he

a
professional

In

game
of
the
Baseball

I
like

my
favorite
place
in
our
city
is
the
city
library.I’d
like
to
share
with
you
a
little
about
our
city
library.When
the
city
library
was
first
built
in
1970,it
had
only
two
floors,but
as
the
population
in
the
city
grew,more
and
more
people
visited
the
library,so
two
more
floors
were
added
to
it
10
years
later.Today
the
library
has
a
collection
of
over
120,000
books
and
100
kinds
of
newspapers
and
magazines,though
not
all
of
those
can
be
taken
out.I
like
visiting
the
third
floor
because
that’s
where
all
the
science
books
and
older
books
are
located.Sometimes
I
also
visit
the
second
floor
to
read
the
latest
magazines
and
newspapers.I
go
to
the
first
floor
almost
every
weekend
to
get
novels
and
textbooks
to
take
home
to
read.The
library
is
open
from
8:00
am
to
6:00
pm
Monday
to
Friday,but
on
the
weekend,it
closes
one
hour
earlier.
第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从各题所给的4个选项(A、B、C、D)中选出最佳选项。
A
I
have
many
new
teachers
in
high
school,but
Lori
Runkle,my
English
Language
and
Composition
teacher,is
my
favorite
teacher.
Ms
Runkle
enjoys
getting
to
know
more
about
students,so
I
have
many
chances
to
talk
with
her
after
class.I
have
always
wanted
to
become
a
journalist
(新闻记者).Since
Ms
Runkle
used
to
be
a
journalist
back
in
the
United
States,she
has
introduced
many
helpful
journalistic
writing
skills
to
me.
Although
she
is
my
teacher,Ms
Runkle
and
I
are
more
like
friends.She
often
invites
my
classmates
and
me
to
take
part
in
different
activities
outside
of
school.For
example,I
went
to
listen
to
a
journalist’s
speech,which
helped
me
better
understand
current
events
(时事).
Not
only
does
Ms
Runkle
talk
with
me
outside
of
school,she
is
also
a
great
teacher
in
the
classroom.English
Language
and
Composition
is
a
really
hard
subject
for
a
second
language
learner.We
felt
worried
in
the
beginning,but
Ms
Runkle
really
makes
an
effort
to
help
us
out.In
class,Ms
Runkle
always
encourages
students
to
question
everything
to
keep
us
active.One
part
of
class
I
love
the
most
is
when
groups
of
students
are
required
to
give
speeches
on
events
that
are
happening
in
the
world.It
requires
a
lot
of
deep
thinking
and
I
really
learn
quite
a
lot
from
it.
I
love
Ms
Runkle
very
much.She
not
only
helps
me
to
get
good
scores,but
also
acts
as
a
good
friend
and
always
gives
me
advice
on
life.

immigrants
want
to
speak
to

答案: C
D
There
are
many
useful
suggestions
and
pieces
of
advice
that
can
help
one
to
improve
English.Here
are
some
useful
suggestions
and
new
tips
to
increase
one’s
English
language
vocabulary.
Learning
English
vocabulary
is
about
much
more
than
just
learning
the
right
words.A
broad
grasp
of
vocabulary
in
the
English
language
is
based
on
understanding
important
expressions
and
“word
combinations”,which
means
groups
of
words
that
often
or
always
go
together.
Learning
a
word
will
not
help
very
much
if
you
quickly
forget
it.Research
shows
that
it
takes
from
10
to
20
repetitions
(重复)
to
really
make
a
word
part
of
your
vocabulary.Since
most
words
are
learned
from
how
they
are
used
in
context
(上下文),the
more
words
one
is
exposed
to,the
better
vocabulary
one
will
have.Keep
a
writing
pad
close
to
you.When
you
read,pay
close
attention
to
the
word
you
do
not
know,write
the
word
down
and
try
to
figure_out
its
meaning
from
the
context.Then
look
up
the
word
in
a
dictionary.
Remember
that
if
you
do
not
use
English
words
that
you
have
just
learned
in
conversation
or
writing,you
will
forget
them
very
quickly.So
the
best
way
to
learn
new
words
effectively
is
just
by
trying
to
use
them
in
conversation
and
writing.Remember
also
that
practice
is
the
key
to
fluent
spoken
English.
Building
vocabulary
is
a
life?long
task.Remember:“In
the
beginning
was
the
word.”
Your
future
could
depend
on
how
rich
your
vocabulary
is.It
will
also
determine
the
quality
of
your
communication.

was
struck
by
a

ran
into
the

W:Oh,that’s

the

caused
the

was

So
if
everyone
is
here,I’ll
make
a
start.As
you
know,a
few
months
ago
we
asked
some
experts
to
do
a
survey
of
the
way
we
answer
the
telephone
across
the
group.Now
I’ll
begin
with
what
they
found
out.First
of
all,they
found
out
that
most
often
we
answer
the
phone
after
four
rings,which
isn’t
bad,but
we
can
still
improve
that.Not
more
than
three
rings
is
better.Secondly,friendliness.Now
although
some
offices
scored
as
high
as
8
out
of
10
for
friendliness,the
experts
only
gave
the
company
as
a
whole
6
out
of
10
for
friendliness.On
this
point,they
suggested
that
we
start
using
some
good
phrases
on
the
phone,and
I
think
we
can
choose
some
new
hold
music
as
well.However,there
are
one
or
two
negative
points
which
we
still
have
to
work
on,such
as
always
remembering
to
ask
for
the
caller’s
name,so
we
still
need
to
improve
in
that
area.
第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从各题所给的4个选项(A、B、C、D)中选出最佳选项。
A
Last
month
I
had
a
meeting
in
Seattle,so
I
decided
to
bring
the
whole
family
and
make
a
trip
out
of
it.We
had
always
wanted
to
take
the
train
down
the
coast,so
we
decided
this
was
the
perfect
opportunity.We
flew
up
to
Seattle,had
a
few
fun
days
to
explore
the
city
and
then
boarded
a
train
in
Seattle
in
the
morning.
We
arrived
at
the
train
station
about
25
minutes
before
the
train
left.There
were
only
a
few
other
people
in
line,so
getting
on
the
train
was
so
easy.
The
scenery
was
beautiful
and
exciting.It
was
so
great
to
sit
next
to
the
window
and
watch
the
country
go
by,which
was
very
enjoyable.The
train
traveled
all
along
the
water
as
we
headed
south
to
Oregon.
The
best
part
about
the
train
was
that
you
could
get
up
and
walk
around
to
do
stuff,and
actually
there
was
a
lot
of
stuff
to
do.You
could
go
to
the
observation
car.There
you
could
relax
and
watch
the
scenery.They
also
had

Generally
speaking,you
need
to
arrive
at
the
railway
station
an
hour
before
the
train
leaves.However,if
you
take
a
train
during
the
Spring
Festival
or
holidays,you
are
advised
to
be
two
hours
early.Here
are
the
basic
steps
for
boarding.
Enter
the
railway
station.
There
are
X?ray
machines
at
the
entrance
of
each
railway
station.All
the
luggage
(行李)
has
to
be
passed
through
to
examine
for
dangerous
things.Once
you
put
your
luggage
on
the
machine,please
go
to
the
other
side
and
fetch
it
quickly
in
case
that
your
luggage
is
taken
either
by
mistake
or
on
purpose.
Find
the
right
waiting
room.
After
you
enter
the
railway
station,you
should
find
the
terminal
hall
(候车厅)
where
your
train
is
going
to
leave
from.There
are
always
electronic
boards

railway
station

Chinese.You
can
find
your
waiting
room
according
to
the
information
given
on
your
train
ticket,or
you
can
ask
a
member
of
staff
for
help
if
you
are
in
trouble
with
Chinese.
Get
onto
the
platform
(月台).
In
most
cases,check?in
starts
30
minutes
before
the
train
leaves
if
it
is
the
starting
station.So
you
are
advised
to
arrive
at
the
station
one
hour
early.If
it
is
not
a
starting
station,check?in
starts
when
the
train
arrives,then
you
just
need
to
be
30
minutes
early.You
will
be
informed
by
radio
then.Remember
to
take
all
your
luggage!
Board
the
train.
The
train
number
and
the
carriage
(车厢)
number
are
shown
outside
the
train
clearly;therefore
it
is
easy
to
find
your
carriage.There
is
a
member
of
staff
at
the
door
of
each
carriage
to
whom
you
are
required
to
show
your
ticket.If
you
board
on
the
wrong
carriage,he/she
will
guide
you
to
the

my
aunt
Gloria.We
have
been
to
the
California
State
Capitol
Building,the
nature
center,and
the
zoo.I
have
seen
many

things,but

California’s
Old

Geyser
(老忠实泉).I

California:Where

heard
of
Old
Faithful,the
geyser

Yellowstone

California
geyser
is
sometimes
called
“Little
Old
Faithful.”

a
calm
pool
of
water.The
geyser
didn’t
look

deep.“What’s

it,there
was
hot
water
shooting
(射)
up
about
60
feet
into
the
air.We
could
not
believe
our
eyes!It
continued

the
water
came
from
an
underground
river.She
also
said
that
the
water
temperature
was
about
95
℃.This
water
can
sometimes
shoot
170
feet
into
the
air.
My
aunt
said
that
other
geysers
around
the
world
reach
hotter
temperatures
and
shoot
water
even
higher
than
California’s
Old
Faithful
Geyser.I’d
love
to
learn
more
about
this
geyser
and
other
geysers
in
different
countries

I
get
home.I’ll
see
you

By
1934,the
Kristiansens

A
few
years
later,in
1954,Godtfred
Kirk
Kristiansen

a
big
idea.He

17As I was coming into middle school,Grade 6,I was really excited because my friend Jennifer was going to be in the same school as me!At first, things were great.
Finally, near the very end of the school year,I stopped sitting with Jennifer at lunch and I stopped waiting for her after class.Jennifer quickly announced that I was mad at her.Our friendship fell to pieces.
