Unit 3 Language in use
设计说明
本单元是复习单元,集中总结和练习although引导的让步状语从句和so…that…引导的结果状语从句的用法;复习巩固本模块的重点单词、短语和句型。本课从指导学生朗读Language practice中的句子入手,引入语法的集中讲解与练习。除语法专项训练外,本单元还安排了词汇、听力和会话的训练以及拓展视野的Around the world栏目。在本课的末尾是实践性环节---制作一份关于独自生活的小册子。所有这些环节的设置,旨在提升学生的语言运用能力。
教学目标
通过本单元的教学,让学生达成以下目标:
1. 知识目标
(1)复习本模块新单词、短语及句型。
(2)总结although引导的让步状语从句和so...that...引导的结果状语从句的用法。
2. 能力目标
(1)能够运用although引导的让步状语从句和so...that...引导的结果状语从句。
(2)能够独立制作一份关于独自生活的小册子。
3. 情感目标:
提高独立生活的意识,遇事学会思考,正确处理。

教学过程
Step 1 Review
1. Ask the students to read the new words and expressions in Module 4.
2. Get some students to read the conversation in Unit 1 in different roles.
3. Get the students to read the passage in Unit 2 on their own.
Step 2 Language practice
1. Read the sentences in the box to the class.
I can look after myself, although it won’t be easy for me.
Although they loved me, I felt a bit unhappy with them.
My clock rings so loudly thatit will certainly wake me up.



2. Get the students to read the sentences.

Step 3 Grammar
一、让步状语从句
although和though引导让步状语从句,意为“虽然;尽管”,两词用法基本相同,只是although更加正式一些,在口语中,though较为常用。
Little Jack has learned to do lots of things on his own, although he is only four years old.
小杰克尽管只有4岁,但他已学会了自己做很多事情。
Though my grandfather is very old, he is very healthy.
我爷爷虽然年龄很大了,但他很健康。
[注意]
(1)在英语中,不管是although还是though,都不能与but同时出现在一个句子中。
Although we tried our best, we failed.
尽管我们尽了最大努力,但我们失败了。
We tried our best, but we failed.
我们尽了最大的努力,但我们失败了。
(2) although和though可以和yet或still连用。
Although I lost almost everything in this terrible earthquake, yet I have not lost my life. 在这次可怕的地震中尽管我几乎失去了所有的东西,然而我没有失去生命。
二、结果状语从句
so…that…引导结果状语从句,意为“如此……以至于……”,so后面接的是形容词或副词,that后接一个句子表示结果。
The girl was so clever that she worked out the maths problem immediately.
这个女孩如此聪明以至于她立刻就解答出了这道数学题目。
It rained so heavily that we had to stop the game.
雨下得太大,以至于我们不得不停止了比赛。
[注意]
下面两个句式要特别记住:
(1) so many / much / few / little(少) +名词+that从句
There were so many people that the hall was full.
有这么多的人,以至于大厅都满了。
(2) so +形容词+a / an +单数可数名词+that从句(=such +a / an+形容词+单数可数名词+that从句)
That was so difficult a problem that few students could work it out.
=That was such a difficult problem that few students could work it out.
那是一道很难的题目,很少学生能解答出来。

(3) Ask some students to read out their sentences.

Step 6 Listening

Daming: I was so hungry that I ate all the food my mother left on the first day!
Betty: Then what did you do?
Daming: Well, I went shopping! I bought so much food that I could hardly carry it home!
Betty: Did you cook for yourself?
Daming: Yes, I did. Although I already knew how to make some simple dishes, I called my grandmother for some advice. What did you do when you burnt your food?
Betty: I ate at the student restaurant, but the food wasn’t very good.
Step 7 Reading
Read the passage on Page 32 and complete the sentences.
(1) Ask the students to listen to the recording and then tell what the passage is about.
(2) Tell them to complete the sentences. Allow them to read the passage to search for useful information.
(3) Check the answer in groups and correct their answers.
(4) Check answers as a class.

Step 8 Around the world
(1) Ask the students to read the passage.

1. Ask the students to work in pairs. Make a list about how to live alone. Here are three topics: managing your time, cooking and staying safe.
2. Ask the students to choose a topic and make a leaflet for the topic.
3. Encourage the students to present their leaflets to the class.
4. Put all the leaflets together to make a class booklet.
Step 10 Homework
1. Go over what you’ve learnt in Unit 3.
2. Preview the new words and expressions in Module 5.
