阅读理解
Food
combining
refers
to
a
good
way
of
choosing
and
eating
food
which
is
based
on
nutrition.
A
food
combining
diet
does
not
allow
people
to
mix
food
rich
in
protein
with
food
rich
in
carbohydrate.
If
you
can
learn
to
combine
foods
in
the
correct
manner,
your
digestive
system
will
improve,
as
well
as
your
energy
levels.
People
who
support
combining
foods
believe
that
incorrectly
combined
meals
may
lead
to
food
that
cannot
be
digested
in
our
stomach.
This
is
believed
to
result
in
some
diseases.
The
key
to
the
food
combining
diet
for
us
is
to
know
what
foods
are
best
together
and
what
foods
should
be
avoided
placing
together
during
meals.
In
a
food
combining
diet,
fruit
should
be
eaten
alone
and
20
to
30
minutes
need
to
pass
before
another
meal
can
be
consumed
so
the
fruit
has
time
to
pass
through
the
body.
Some
experts
believe
that
foods
rich
in
carbohydrate
and
citrus
(柑橘类的)
fruit
should
not
be
combined
because
the
chemicals
in
our
stomach
that
digests
carbohydrates
can
only
function
in
an
alkaline
(碱)
space.
Similarly,
carbohydrates
and
proteins
should
be
kept
away
from
one
another
since
they
can
affect
the
digestion
of
the
other.
Protein
and
starches
(淀粉)
are
eaten
during
separate
meals
in
a
food
combining
diet.
For
example,
meat
and
bread
would
not
be
eaten
together
during
a
single
meal.
In
addition,
the
protein
or
starch
that
is
consumed
during
a
meal
would
be
combined
with
a
vegetable,
and
fruits
would
always
be
eaten
separately.
This
diet
is
70%
fruits
and
vegetables
and
30%
starches
like
rice.
Dairy
products
are
not
included
in
the
food
combining
diet.
Because
this
diet
is
mainly
made
up
of
fruit
and
vegetables,
it
is
usually
lower
in
calories.
Rapid
weight
loss
usually
has
something
to
do
with
food
combining.
Some
nutritionists
worry
that
this
diet
doesn't
have
enough
important
nutrients
like
Vitamin
D
and
protein.
However,
others
say
that
if
the
diet
is
followed
properly,
this
is
not
a
problem.
1.
From
the
first
paragraph
we
can
learn
that________.
A.
food
plays
an
important
role
in
our
digestive
system

diet
should
contain
nothing
but
proteinrich
food
C.
foods
should
be
combined
correctly
on
nutrition
D.
people
should

food
that
offers
more
energy

with

C.

and

mainly
tell
us
________.
A.

of
combined
food
B.
some
examples
of
unreasonably

5.

eaten
alone
and
20
to
30
minutes
need
to
pass
before
another
meal
can
be
consumed
so
the
fruit
has
time
to
pass
through
the
body.
Some
experts
believe
that
foods
rich
in
carbohydrate
and
citrus
(柑橘类的)
fruit
should
not
be
combined
because
the
chemicals
in
our
stomach
that
digests
carbohydrates
can
only
function
in
an
alkaline
(碱)
space.
Similarly,
carbohydrates
and
proteins
should
be
kept
away
from
one
another
since
they
can
affect
the
digestion
of
the
other.
Protein
and
starches
(淀粉)
are
eaten
during
separate
meals
in
a
food
combining
diet.
For
example,
meat
and
bread
would
not
be
eaten
together
during
a
single
meal.
In
addition,
the
protein
or
starch
that
is
consumed
during
a
meal
would
be
combined
with
a
vegetable,
and
fruits
would
always
be
eaten
separately.
This
diet
is
70%
fruits
and
vegetables
and
30%
starches
like
rice.
Dairy
products
are
not
included
in
the
food
combining
diet.
Because
this
diet
is
mainly
made
up
of
fruit
and
vegetables,
it
is
usually
lower
in
calories.
Rapid
weight
loss
usually
has
something
to
do
with
food
combining.
Some
nutritionists
worry
that
this
diet
doesn't
have
enough
important
nutrients
like
Vitamin
D
and
protein.
However,
others
say
that
if
the
diet
is
followed
properly,
this
is
not
a
problem.
本文是一篇说明文,主要讲的是饮食中哪些食物可以结合在一起吃,哪些食物必须分开来吃。

is
right
according
to
the
passage?
A.
Eating
protein
together
with
a
vegetable.
B.

fruits
together
with
protein.
C.
Eating
carbohydrates
and
protein
together.
D.
Eating
carbohydrate?rich
foods
and
citrus
fruit.
答案:A 考查细节理解。根据第四段的“the
protein
or
starch
that
is
consumed
during
a
meal
would
be
combined
with
a
vegetable”可知,含蛋白质或者淀粉比较多的食物应该跟蔬菜结合起来吃,所以答案选A项。
3.
The
third
and
fourth
paragraphs
mainly
tell
us
________.
A.
some
examples
of
combined
food
B.
some
examples
of
unreasonably
combined
food
C.
the
concept
of
the
food
combining
diet
D.
foods
that
can
be
eaten
together
or
separately
答案:D 考查段意理解。第三段和第四段主要讲的是可以一起吃或者应该分开来吃的食物,所以答案选D项。
4.

the
following
items
except
________.
A.
fruits

B.
cheese
C.
vegetables
D.
bread
答案:B 考查细节理解。根据第四段的“Dairy
products
are
not
included
in
the
food
combining
diet.”可知,这里讲的食物搭配并不包括乳制品,所以答案选B项。
5.
What
does
the
underlined
word
“this”
in
the
last
paragraph
refer
to?
A.
This
diet
is
lower
in
calories.
B.
This
diet
should
be
followed
properly.
C.
This
diet
doesn't
have
enough
important
nutrients.
D.
This
diet
doesn't
benefit
those
who
want
to
lose
weight.
答案:C 考查代词指代。从最后一段的“Some
nutritionists
worry
that
this
diet
doesn't
have
enough
important
nutrients
like
Vitamin
D
and
protein.”可知,this指的是this
diet
doesn't
have
enough
important
nutrients,所以答案选C项。
Ⅴ.

What
is
the
tallest
mountain
on
earth?

But
there
is
something
304
meters
taller
than
Mount
Everest.
However,
it
is
mainly
underwater.
It
begins
at
the
bottom
of
the
Pacific
Ocean,
and
rises
more
than
17
kilometers
from
the
ocean
floor.
Its
name
is
Mauna
Loa,
which
means
“Long

in
the
Hawaiian
language.
Mauna
Loa
is
more
than
half
of
the
island
of
Hawaii,
the
largest
of
the
Hawaiian
Islands.
___2___It
has
produced
liquid
rock
called
lava
(熔岩)
more
than
thirty
times
since
records
were
first
kept
in
1843.
Today,
Mauna
Loa
is
quiet.
It
is
not
producing
lava.
However,
volcano
experts
say
it
is
only
a
matter
of
time
before
this
happens
once
again.
___3___There
are
four
others.
Three
of
them
are

fifty
times
in
the
last
100
years.
At
this
moment,
red
hot
lava
is
pouring
out
of
Kilauea.
___4___
Sometimes
the
lava
moves
slowly.
At
other
times
it
pours
out
very
fast
as
huge
amounts
of
pressure
force
it
from
the
volcano.
During
these
times,
it
moves
almost
as
quickly
as
water
moving
down
the
side
of
a
mountain.
When
the
lava
from
Kilauea
reaches
the
ocean,
its
fierce
heat
produces
great
amounts
of
steam
that
rise
into
the
air.
The
lava
is
so
hot
that
it
continues
to
burn
underwater
for
some
time.
The
lava
from
Kilauea
continues
to
add
land
to
the
island
as
the
volcanoes
of
Hawaii
have
always
done.
___5___
A.
It
has
been
doing
this
since
1983.
B.
It
is
no
longer
considered
to
be
active.
C.
You
will
say
the
answer
is
Mount
Everest.
D.

is
these
volcanoes
that
formed
the
islands
of
Hawaii.
E.
Mauna
Loa
is
not
the
only
volcano
on
the
island
of
Hawaii.
F.
Mauna
Loa
is
also
the
largest
and
most
active
volcano
on
earth.
G.
Experts
say
the
volcanoes
are
a
serious
threat
to
many
parts
of
the
island.

1.
C 提到世界上最高的山脉,我们通常想到的是珠穆朗玛峰,由后一句的Mount
Everest可知,故选C。
2.
F 本段继续介绍Mauna
Loa,接下来介绍的是熔岩的喷发,文中提到“Today,Mauna
Loa
is
quiet.”以及后句提到的可知此处应选F。
3.
E 由后两句“There
are
four
others.
Three
of
them
are
no
longer
active.”可知,本段转而介绍岛上的其他火山,故选E。
4.
A 根据上下句的主语red
hot
lava和the
lava可知,本段介绍的是熔岩的情况,从话题上,A和B合适。但B中的no
longer
active与本段内容矛盾,可排除。故选A。
5.
D 本段侧重介绍火山喷发产生的熔岩对于夏威夷形成的作用,故选D。

Masses

They
are
so

looking
that
you

It
seems
that
nothing
that

could
be
natural-and

it

you
that
something
so
large
could
only
be
natural.
Now,
people
realize
that
as
climate
change
is
raising
global
temperatures,
more
icebergs
are
being
born.
Antarctica
creates
far
more
of
them
than
Greenland,
the

of
bergs
in
Arctic
waters.
Antarctica's
are
also
much
larger,

reaching
the

of
small

Recent
data
shows
the
average
atmospheric
temperature
has
increased
about
4.5oF
in
the
western
Antarctic
Peninsula
since
the
1940s,
making
the
region,
among
the
fastest
warming
on
earth.
This
jump
has
been
shown
in
the
recent
breaking
of
major
ice
shelves
along
the
Antarctic
Peninsula.
As
a
result,
thousands
of
new
icebergs
have
broken
off,
from
ice
shelves
into
the
Southern
Ocean
at
an
accelerated
rate.
Even
as
more
icebergs
are
being
created,
scientists
are
learning
that
these
beauties
are
far
from
inactive
masses
of
ice.
In
fact,
they
strikingly
alter
their
environments
biologically,
chemically,

physically,
making
them
islands
of

in
the
open

Observers

Now
scientists
are
learning
just
what
the
attraction
is
all
about.
Depending
on
their
size,
location

and
the
season,
icebergs
can
be

Grounded
bergs

and
thus

(浮游植物)
from

at

Icebergs
will
continue
to
astonish
and
attract
visitors
to
the
polar
regions
with
their
size
and

beauty.
But
now
these

masses
are
taking
on
a
new
dimension
of
wonder
as
we

in
the

of

too.
In
Russia
it
inspired
Vladimir
Lenin,
who
recalled
it
as
his
favorite
book
in
childhood.
It
was
the
first
American
novel
to
be
translated
and
published
in
China,
and
it
fueled
anti-slavery
movements
in
Cuba
and
Brazil.
The
book's
progressive
appeal
was
the
character
of
Uncle
Tom
himself:
a
strong
man
who
is
notable
because
he
does
not
betray
his
race;
one
reason
he
gives
up
escaping
from
his
plantation
(种植园)
is
that
he
doesn't
want
to
put
his
fellow
slaves
in
danger
.
And
he
is
finally
killed
because
he
refuses
to
tell
his
master
where
two
runaway
slaves
are
hiding.
Unfortunately,
these
themes
were
lost
in
many
of
the
stage
versions
of
Uncle
Tom's
Cabin.
The
play,
seen
by
more
people
than
those
who
read
the
book,
remained
popular
up
to
the
1950s
and
still
appears
occasionally.
But
in
the
play,
Stowe's
revolutionary
themes
were
drowned.
But
it
doesn't
have
to
be
that
way;
indeed,
during
the
civil
rights
era
it
was
those
who
most
closely
resembled
Uncle
Tom-Stowe's
Uncle
Tom,
not
the
embarrassed
one
of
popular
myth-that
proved
most
effective
in
promoting
progress.
Both
Stowe
and
Uncle
Tom
deserve
our
reconsideration
and
our
respect.

Dear
friends,
Here
is
my
points.
We
students
of
today
have
to
fix
our
attention
on
our
lessons,
and
for
a
result,
we
know
few
of
society.
A
holiday
is
the
best
time
and
the
best
chance
to
make
up
for
that.
Take
a
part-time
job
is
a
good
form
of
social
practice.
That
we
have
learned
in
books
and
in
class
can't
have
same
important
effect
on
us
as
what
we
have
learned
through
personal
practice.
In
social
practice,
we
can
surely
make
a
progress
in
both
knowledge
and
practical
ability.
Beside,
taking
a
part-time
job,
we
may
got
paid
more
or
less
to
help
our
family.
Thus,
I
will
say
a
senior
school
student
should
take
a
part-time
job
in
holiday,
if
possible,
of
course.

They
are

It
seems
that
nothing
that

could
be
natural-and
then
it
strikes
you
that
something
so
large

only
be

Now,
people

more
icebergs
are

Antarctica
creates
far

Antarctica's
are
also
much
larger,
sometimes
reaching
the
size
of
small

Recent
data
shows
the
average
atmospheric
temperature
has
increased
about
4.5oF
in
the
western
Antarctic
Peninsula
since
the
1940s,
making
the

among
the
fastest

earth.
This
jump
has
been
shown
in
the

major

the

Peninsula.
As
a
result,
thousands
of
new
icebergs
have
broken
off,
from
ice
shelves
into
the
Southern
Ocean
at
an
accelerated
rate.
Even
as
more
icebergs
are
being
created,
scientists
are
learning
that
these
beauties
are
far
from
inactive
masses
of
ice.
In
fact,
they
strikingly
alter
their
environments
biologically,
chemically,
and
physically,
making
them
islands
of

in
the

Observers

long

and
divers
had
noticed
that
fish
are
more

them
than
in
the
surrounding

Now
scientists
are
learning
just
what
the
attraction
is
all
about.
Depending
on
their
size,
location
,
and
the
season,
icebergs
can
be
nurturers
or
destroyers.
During
their
existence
-typically
years
from
breaking
off
from
an
Antarctic
or
Greenlandic
glacier
to
their
gradual
melting
as
they
float
into
lower
altitudes,
they
support
animals
on,
around,
even
inside
their
splendid
ice
castle.
They
fertilize
the
ocean
with
nutrients,
increasing
sea
creature
production.
Grounded
bergs
can
shelter
areas
of
the
seafloor,
protecting
bottom-living
creatures
from
free-floating
icebergs.
However,
large
bergs
can
also
trap
sea
ice,
preventing
its
annual
breakup
and
thus
stopping
phytoplankton
(浮游植物)
from
getting
life-giving
sunlight,
breaking
the
food
chain
at
its
first
link...
Icebergs
will
continue
to
astonish
and
attract
visitors
to
the
polar
regions
with
their
size
and
extraordinary
beauty.
But
now
these
frozen
masses
are
taking
on
a
new
dimension
of
wonder
as
we
uncover
their
vital
role
in
the
environment
of
polar
seas.
No
longer
can
we
look
at
icebergs
as
mere
passive
beauties.
They

an

The
novelist,
Harriet
Beecher
Stowe,
born
200
years
ago,
was
a
poor
housewife
with
six
children,
and
she
suffered
from
various
illnesses.
Driven
by
the
hatred
of
slavery,
she
found
time
to
write
Uncle
Tom's
Cabin,
which
became
the
most
influential
novel
in
American
history
and
caused
great
change,
both
at
home
and
abroad.
Today,
however,
the
book
has
a
different
reputation
,
owing
to
the
popular
image
of
its
character,
Uncle
Tom,
whose
name
has
become
a
saying
for
a
cowardly
(懦弱的)
black
man
who
betrays
his
race.
But
this
view
is
wrong:
the
original
Uncle
Tom
was
physically
and
morally
strong,
an
inspiration
for
black
people
and
other
oppressed
(被压迫的)
people
worldwide.
Indeed,
that
was
why,
in
the
mid-19th
century,
Southerners
attacked
Uncle
Tom's
Cabin
as
a
dangerously
destructive
book,
while
Northern
reformers-especially
black
people-often
praised
it.
The
book
was
influential
overseas
too.
In
Russia
it
inspired
Vladimir

who
recalled
it
as
his
favorite
book
in
childhood.
It
was
the
first
American

be

and
published
in
China,
and
it
fueled
anti-slavery
movements
in
Cuba
and
Brazil.
The
book's
progressive
appeal
was
the
character
of
Uncle
Tom
himself:
a
strong
man
who
is
notable
because
he
does
not
betray
his
race;
one
reason
he
gives
up
escaping
from
his
plantation
(种植园)
is
that
he
doesn't
want
to
put
his
fellow
slaves
in
danger
.
And
he
is
finally
killed
because
he
refuses
to
tell
his
master
where
two
runaway
slaves
are
hiding.
Unfortunately,
these
themes
were
lost
in
many
of
the
stage
versions
of
Uncle
Tom's
Cabin.
The
play,
seen
by
more
people
than
those
who
read
the
book,
remained
popular
up
to
the
1950s
and
still
appears
occasionally.
But
in
the
play,
Stowe's
revolutionary
themes
were
drowned.
But
it
doesn't
have
to
be

Both
Stowe
and
Uncle
Tom
deserve
our
reconsideration
and
our
respect.

Passenger
pigeons(旅鸽)
once
flew
over
much
of
the
United
States
in
unbelievable
numbers.
Written
accounts
from
the
18th
and
19th
centuries
described
flocks(群)
so
large
that
they
darkened
the
sky
for
hours.
It
was
calculated
that
when
its
population
reached
its
highest
point,
there
were
more
than
3
billion
passenger
pigeons-a
number
equal
to
24
to
40
percent
of
the
total
bird
population
in
the
United
States,
making
it
perhaps
the
most
abundant
bird
in
the
world.
Even
as
late
as
1870
when
their
numbers
had
already
become
smaller,
a
flock
believed
to
be
1
mile
wide
and
320
miles
(about
515
kilometers)
long
was
seen
near
Cincinnati.
Sadly,
the
abundance
of
passenger
pigeons
may
have
been
their
undoing.
Where
the
birds
were
most
abundant
,
people
believed
there
was
an
ever?lasting
supply
and
killed
them
by
the
thousands.
Commercial
hunters
attracted
them
to
small
clearings
with
grain,
waited
until
pigeons
had
settled
to
feed,
then
threw
large
nets
over
them,
taking
hundreds
at
a
time.
The
birds
were
shipped
to
large
cities
and
sold
in
restaurants.
By
the
closing
decades
of
the
19th
century,
the
hardwood
forests
where
passenger
pigeons
nested
had
been
damaged
by
Americans'
need
for
wood,
which
scattered
(驱散)
the
flocks
and
forced
the
birds
to
go
farther
north,
where
cold
temperatures
and
spring
storms
contributed
to
their
decline.
Soon
the
great
flocks
were
gone,
never
to
be
seen
again.
In
1897,
the
state
of
Michigan
passed
a
law
prohibiting
the
killing
of
passenger
pigeons,
but
by
then,
no
sizable
flocks
had
been
seen
in
the
state
for
10
years.
The
last
confirmed
wild
pigeon
in
the
United
States
was
shot
by
a
boy
in
Pike
County,
Ohio,
in
1900.
For
a
time,
a
few
birds
survived
under
human
care.
The
last
of
them,
known
affectionately
as
Martha,
died
at
the
Cincinnati
Zoological
Garden
on
September
1,
1914.
1.

were
the

bird
in

Passenger
pigeons(旅鸽)
once
flew
over
much
of
the
United
States
in
unbelievable
numbers.
Written
accounts
from
the
18th
and
19th
centuries
described
flocks(群)
so
large
that
they
darkened
the
sky
for
hours.
It
was
calculated
that
when
its
population
reached
its
highest
point,
there
were
more
than
3
billion
passenger
pigeons-a
number
equal
to
24
to
40
percent
of
the
total
bird
population
in
the
United
States,
making
it
perhaps
the
most
abundant
bird
in
the
world.
Even
as
late
as
1870
when
their
numbers
had
already
become
smaller,
a
flock
believed
to
be
1
mile
wide
and
320
miles
(about
515
kilometers)
long
was
seen
near
Cincinnati.
Sadly,
the
abundance
of
passenger
pigeons
may
have
been
their
undoing.
Where
the
birds
were
most
abundant
,
people
believed
there
was
an
ever?lasting
supply
and
killed
them
by
the
thousands.
Commercial
hunters
attracted
them
to
small
clearings
with
grain,
waited
until
pigeons
had
settled
to
feed,
then
threw
large
nets
over
them,
taking
hundreds
at
a
time.
The
birds
were
shipped
to
large
cities
and
sold
in
restaurants.
By
the
closing
decades
of
the
19th
century,
the
hardwood
forests
where
passenger
pigeons
nested
had
been
damaged
by
Americans'
need
for
wood,
which
scattered
(驱散)
the
flocks
and
forced
the
birds
to
go
farther
north,
where
cold
temperatures
and
spring
storms
contributed
to
their
decline.
Soon
the
great
flocks
were
gone,
never
to
be
seen
again.
In
1897,
the
state
of
Michigan
passed
a
law
prohibiting
the
killing
of
passenger
pigeons,
but
by
then,
no
sizable
flocks
had
been
seen
in
the
state
for
10
years.
The
last
confirmed
wild
pigeon
in
the
United
States
was
shot
by
a
boy
in
Pike
County,
Ohio,
in
1900.
For
a
time,
a
few
birds
survived
under
human
care.
The
last
of
them,
known
affectionately
as
Martha,
died
at
the
Cincinnati
Zoological
Garden
on
September
1,
1914.
本文为说明文,题材为环境与自然类。曾几何时在美国蔚蓝的天空飞翔着一种鸟,这种鸟可能是当时美国数量最多的鸟类——旅鸽。但是慢慢地这种鸟的数量急剧减少,人们几乎看不到它们了。发生了什么事?这些鸟去哪儿了呢?
1.
In
the
18th
and
early
19th
centuries,
passenger
pigeons
________.
A.
were
the
biggest
bird
in
the
world
B.
lived
mainly
in
the
south
of
America
C.
did
great
harm
to
the
natural
environment
D.
were
the
largest
bird
population
in
the
US
答案:D 推理判断题。根据第二段第一句话可知当时这种鸟的数量占据美国全部鸟类数量的24%到40%,可能是世界上最多的鸟,由此推断它是当时美国数量最多的鸟类,所以答案为D项。没有提及它们是世界上最大的鸟类,排除A项;也没有提及它们主要生活在美国的南部,排除B项;更没有提及它们给环境带来了巨大的危害,排除C项。
2.
The
underlined
word
“undoing”
probably
refers
to
the
pigeons'
________.
A.
escape

B.
ruin
C.
liberation
D.
evolution
答案:B 词义猜测题。根据后面的描述可知人们大量捕捉这种鸟,把它们卖到饭店。由此推断出这种鸟的数量众多导致了它们的毁灭。所以答案为B项。escape逃跑,避开;ruin毁坏,毁灭;liberation解放;evolution进化,发展。
3.
What
was
the
main
reason
for
people
to
kill
passenger
pigeons?
A.
To
seek
pleasure.
B.
To
save
other
birds.
C.
To
make
money.
D.
To
protect
crops.
答案:C 细节理解题。根据第三段的最后一句话The
birds
were
shipped
to
large
cities
and
sold
in
restaurants.可知人们主要是为了钱才大量屠杀这种鸟的,所以答案为C项。其他三项文中均未提及。
4.
What
can
we
infer
about
the
law
passed
in
Michigan?
A.
It
was
ignored
by
the
public.
B.
It
was
declared
too
late.
C.
It
was
unfair.
D.
It
was
strict.
答案:B 推理判断题。根据最后一段的描述可知尽管密歇根州于1897年通过了禁止屠杀旅鸽的法律,但是在以前的10年里人们已经没有见过有一定规模的鸟群飞过密歇根州了。由此推断出该法律颁布得太晚了,所以答案为B项。其他三项文中均未提及。
