Famously
holding
to
the
idea
that
“less

German
architect
Mies
Van
der
Rohe
pointed
the
way
to
Minimalism.
He
banished
all
traces
of
decoration,
using
steel
and
plate
glass
to
define
the
look
of
his

His
designs
emphasized
rationalism
and

as

The

is
an

had
an

Nonetheless,
his

achieved
iconic

in
a

of
cases,
most
notably
in
the

he
built
for
himself
in
1949.
The

His

there’s
no

that
Calatrava
is
one
of
the
most

A
ban
on
tourists
sitting
on
Rome’s
famous
Spanish
Steps
has
divided
the
capital.
Under
new
rules,
police
have
started
telling
tourists
they
can
no
longer
sit
on
the
135
steps,
which
sweep
from
the
imposing
church
of
Trinita
de’
Monti
down
to
Piazza
di
Spagna
in
the
heart
of
the
city.
Police
began
patrolling
the
18th-century
marble
steps
on
Tuesday,
blowing
whistles
at
those
sitting
down.
The
monument,
a
Unesco
world
heritage
site,
has
long
been
the
ideal
resting
spot
for
tired
visitors
and
holds
a
special
allure
at
sunset.
Visitors
who
defy
the
ban
can
be
fined
?250,
which
increases
to
?400
if
they
have
dirtied
or
damaged
the
stone
staircase,
which
was
made
famous
by
the
1953
romantic
comedy
Roman
Holiday,
starring
Gregory
Peck
and
Audrey
Hepburn.
The
new
rules
are
an
attempt
to
stop
tourists
eating
and
drinking
on
the
Steps.
But
the
ban
has
been
condemned
as
too
stringent.
Vittorio
Sgarbi,
a
high-profile
art
critic
and
cultural
heritage
expert,
said:
“The
rule
is
excessive,
almost
Fascist.
Banning
tourists
from
sitting
down
is
really
excessive.”
But
it
was
welcomed
by
business
owners
in
the
area.
“This
is
a
small
return
to
civility,”
said
Gianni
Battistoni,
the
president
of
an
association
of
businesses.
Viviana
Di
Capua,
the
head
of
an
association
of
residents
of
the
historic
centre
of
Rome,
said:
“Rome
needs
to
be
respected
and
people
need
to
understand
that
not
everything
is
allowed.”
Davide
Sermoneta,
the
head
of
an
association
of
business
owners
in
the
area,
said
many
tourists
were
badly
behaved.
“They
don’t
understand
that
they
are
in
a
city
of
history
and
beauty.”
This
fine
comes
on
the
heels
of
other
recent
Italian
preservation
efforts:
swimming
banned
in
Trevi
fountain;
Florence's
eating-in-the-streets
ban;
and
so
on.
While
some
recent
moves
seem
to
be
a
direct
attempt
to
curb
overtourism,
this
particular
fine
is
aimed
at
preservation
actually.
Park
benches,
sidewalk
cafes
and
terraces
welcome
tired
travelers,
encouraging
guests
to
sit
and
stay
awhile.
4.
What
does
the
ban
include?
A.
Tourists
can’t
sit
on
those
park
benches
of
Rome.
B.
Tourists
can’t
sit
in
those
sidewalk
cafes
of
Rome.
C.
Tourists
can’t
watch
the
beautiful
sunset
of
Rome.
D.
Tourists
can’t
sit
on
Rome’s
famous
Spanish
Steps.
5.
What
made
Spanish
Steps
famous?
A.
The
beautiful
sunset
of
the
square.
B.
The
comedy
Roman
Holiday.
C.
The
delicious
wine
and
coffee.
D.
The
famous
Trevi
fountain.
6.
What
is
the
purpose
of
the
ban?
A.
It
is
actually
aimed
at
preservation.
B.
It
is
aimed
at
stopping
overtourism.
C.
To

swimming
in

第一节
(满分15分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
During
the
2017
Spring
festival
holiday
period,
Joe
and
I
were
1
(luck)
enough
to
be
invited
to
stay
with
a
family
in
2
countryside
of
Yong
He,
north
of
Lanzhou
in
Gansu
province.
Plenty
could
be
said
about
our
stay,
each
day
filled
3
new
sights
and
experiences.
However,
I
would
have
to
speak
of
our
last
day.
Sarah’s
father’s
4
(invite)Joe
and
me
to
take
part
in
a
Daoist
ceremony.
Early
in
the
morning,
people
began
to
gather,
passing
around
lucky
red
bands
that
we
tied
ever
so
fashionably
on
our
right
arms.
It
was
then
that
they
decided:
the
two
foreigners
were
to
be
the
flag-bearers.
We
were
put
in
the
back
of
an
old
truck
5
also
carried
the
huge
drum
and
the
cymbals,
as
well
as
the
men
who
were
to
play
them.
6
(late)I
sat
near
the
driver.
My
friend
regrettably
did
not
have
the
luxury
of
sitting
in
the
heated
truck.
The
men
began
to
play
their
percussion
instruments.
I
was
smiling
and
laughing
at
how
fun
all
this
was,
but
Joe
did
not
seem
to
find
the
situation
7
funny
as
I
did.
When
it
was
my
turn
to
sit
in
back,
I
realized
why.
We
continued
on
our
way,
making
the
rounds
of
the
countryside
beating
our
drums
and
swinging
our
flag.
What
was
meant
to
scare
the
evil
spirits
away
did
not
seem
have
the
same
effect
on
the
winter
winds.
In
fact,
it
seemed
to
only
get
8
(cold)than
before.
The
driver
dauntlessly
drove
on
narrow
and
tough
dirt
roads.
I
could
see
that
we
were
driving
dangerously.
At
the
time,
I
think
I
was
perhaps
too
cold
9
(know)fear,
and
I
continued
to
10
(tight)
grasp
my
flag.
I
was
a
flag-bearer,
and
I
was
bringing
peace
to
the
countryside.
I
was
doing
a
great
job,
and
so
with
such
support
I
doubled
my
efforts
to
be
an
even
better
frozen
flag
pole.
Finally,
we
were
both
quite
glad
to
arrive
at
the
destination
and
finish
our
task.
It
was
unforgettable!
