When it comes to QuYuan, what will you think of ?
To know more about him, let’s enjoy another short video and answer the following two questions :
When did Qu Yuan jumped into the river ?
Why did people throw Zongzi into the river ?
From the videos, we can know that some activities are still held today in memory of Qu Yuan, but can you guess why people still remember him?
Now look through the first part of our text, and check whether the reasons you gave correct or not ?

Qu Yuan was an official in the state of Chu, but he ________ (banish) from the capital. As we all know, Qu Yuan wrote a lot of poems, among which, “crossing the river ” is one of the most famous one, who can recite the first two parts of the Chinese version?
Step three: appreciate the poem– Crossing the River
“Crossing the river ” was written after Qu Yuan was banished for the second time. The king of Huai trusted his brother Zi Lan and decide to give in to the state of Qin but Qu Yuan advocated uniting the state of Qi to fight against Qin. Being spoken ill of , Qu Yuan was finally banished to farther south of China.
Qu Yuan loved his country so much that he was reluctant to leave but he had to , so he expressed this feeling in the famous poem- crossing the river.

Does the sentence “since I was young I have gorgeous dress. And still love raiment rare ” only means Qu Yuan loved beautiful dress? Please tell in details.
What does the sentence “Though there are fools who can’t understand , I ride by undismayed.” mean? What can we learn from him?
Which sentences describe his travelling on the way? Are they only a description of his travelling or are they used to express his feelings?
Does the sentence “Since I am upright, and my conscience clear , why should I grieve to leave?” really mean that Qu Yuan was not upset at all?
5. Summary for the poem
Qu Yuan is a patriotic poet and want to make great contributions to his country. It is a great pity that he couldn’t achieve his ambition then. We are supposed to learn from him and put our love for our country into practice. We should study hard to enrich our knowledge and improve our ability so that we can make great contributions to our country.
Step four: Task making a presentation about ancient china
Can you agree on a period of ancient China to make a presentation?
Please choose 2 or 3 important people or some aspects of the period.
Work in groups.
Attention: each student in the group should take on a different part of the presentation
