Cleaning
your
plate
may
not
help
feed
hungry
children
today,
but
the
old
advice
of
mothers
everywhere
may
help
reduce
food
waste
from
the
farm
to
the
fork,
help
the
environment
and
make
it
easier
to
feed
the
world's
growing
population.
Hard
data
is
still
being
collected,
but
experts
in
Chicago
say
about
30%
to
50%
of
the
food
produced
in
the
world
goes
uneaten.
The
average
American
throws
away
33
pounds
of
food
each
month—about
$40
worth,
which
means
each
person
throws
away
almost
400
pounds
of
food
every
year.
The
US
Department
of
Agriculture
says
that
23%
of
eggs
and
an
even
higher
rate
of
produce
end
up
in
the
trash(垃圾).
“We
forget
we
have
all
these
fresh
fruit—and
vegetables,
and
at
the
end
of
the
week
we
have
to
throw
them
away,”
said
Esther
Gove,
a
mother
of
three
young
children
in
South
Berwick,
Maine.
“Now,
I
don't
buy
as
much
fresh
produce
as
I
used
to.”
But
the
effect
of
food
waste
arrives
far
beyond
the
kitchen.
Agriculture
(农业)
is
the
world's
largest
user
of
water,
a
big
consumer
of
energy
and
major
emitter
of
greenhouse
gases
during
production.
Experts
say
reducing
waste
is
a
simple
way
to
cut
stress
on
the
environment
and
can
ease
pressure
on
farmers,
who
will
be
called
on
to
feed
an
expected
9
billion
people
around
the
world
in
2050,
compared
with
about
7
billion
today.
No
matter
how
sustainable
(可持续的)
farming
is,
if
the
food's
not
getting
eaten,
it's
not
sustainable
and
it's
not
a
good
use
of
our
resources.
In
richer
nations,
fruit
and
vegetables
end
up
in
the
trash
because
they
aren't
pretty
enough
to
meet
companies'
standards,
and
have
gone
bad
in
a
home
refrigerator
or
aren't
eaten
at
a
restaurant.
In
developing
countries,
much
food
goes
wrong
before
it
gets
to
the
market
because
of
poor
roads
and
lack
of
refrigeration.
High
food
prices
are
another
reason,
because
some
people
can't
afford
the
food
that's
produced.
1.From
the
first
paragraph.
we
know
that
cleaning
your
plate
________.
A.is
your
mother's
best
advice
for
you
B.can
help
solve
certain
problems
in
the
world
C.can
help
feed
hungry
children
all
over
the
world
D.helps
meet
the
growing
population's
needs
2.The
underlined
word
“emitter”
in
Paragraph
4
means
“________”.
A.user
B.finder
C.protector
D.producer
3.Which
of
the
following
topics
may
follow
the
text?
A.More
examples
of
food
waste.
B.Ways
to
reduce
food
waste.
C.Experts'
ideas
on
the
environment.
D.Advice
for
food
with
high
prices.
B
“Creativity
is
the
key
to
a
brighter
future,”
say
education
and
business
experts.
Here
is
how
schools
and
parents
can
encourage
this
important
skill
in
children.
If
Dick
Drew
had
listened
to
his
boss
in
1925
,
we
might
not
have
the
product
that
we
now
think
of
as
great
importance:
a
new
type
of
tape.
Drew
worked
for
the
Minnesota
Mining
and
Manufacturing
Company.
At
work
he
developed
a
kind
of
material
strong
enough
to
hold
things
together.
But
his
boss
told
him
not
to
think
more
about
the
idea.
Finally,
using
his
own
time,
Drew
improved
the
tape,
which
now
is
used
everywhere
by
many
people.
And
his
former
company
learned
from
its
mistake.
Now
it
encourages
people
to
spend
15
percent
of
their
working
time
just
thinking
about
and
developing
new
ideas.
Creativity
is
not
something
one
is
just
born
with,
nor
is
it
necessarily
a
character
of
high
intelligence.
The
fact
that
a
person
is
highly
intelligent
does
not
mean
that
he
uses
it
creatively.
Creativity
is
the
matter
of
using
the
resources
one
has
to
produce
new
ideas
that
are
good
for
something.
Unfortunately,
schools
have
not
tried
to
encourage
creativity.
With
strong
attention
to
test
results
and
the
development
of
reading,
writing
and
mathematical
skills,
many
educators
give
up
creativity
for
correct
answers.
The
result
is
that
children
can
gain
information
but
can't
recognize
ways
to
use
it
in
new
situations.
They
may
know
the
rules
correctly
but
they
are
unable
to
use
them
to
work
out
practical
problems.
It
is
important
to
give
children
choices.
From
the
earliest
age,
children
should
be
allowed
to
make
decisions
and
understand
their
results.
Even
if
it's
choosing
between
two
food
items
for
lunch,
decision?making
helps
thinking
skills.
As
children
grow
older,
parents
should
try
to
let
them
decide
how
to
use
their
time
or
spend
their
money.
This
is
because
the
most
important
character
of
creative
people
is
a
very
strong
desire
to
find
a
way
out
of
trouble.
4.What
did
the
company
where
Drew
once
worked
learn
from
its
mistake?
A.It
should
encourage
people
to
work
a
longer
time.
B.People
should
be
discouraged
to
think
freely.
C.People
will
do
better
if
they
spend
most
of
their
working
time
developing
new
ideas.
D.It
is
necessary
for
people
to
spend
some
of
their
working
time
considering
and
developing
new
ideas.
5.We
can
know
from
the
passage
that
creativity
is
______.
A.something
that
most
people
are
born
with
B.something
that
has
nothing
to
do
with
intelligence
at
all
C.a
way
of
using
what
one
has
learned
to
work
out
new
problems
D.something
that
is
not
important
to
the
life
in
the
future
at
all
6.Why
don't
schools
try
to
encourage
creativity?
A.They
don't
think
creativity
education
is
important.
B.They
don't
want
their
students
to
make
mistakes.
C.They
pay
no
attention
to
examination
marks.
D.They
think
it
impossible
to
develop
creativity
in
class.
7.What
should
parents
do
when
their
children
decide
how
to
spend
their
money?
A.Allow
them
to
have
a
try.
B.Try
to
help
them
as
much
as
possible.
C.Take
no
notice
of
whatever
they
do.
D.Order
them
to
spend
the
least
money.

Do
you
want
to
give
your
child
the
best
start
in
life?
Helping
him
to
become
a
good,
confident(自信的)
reader
is
one
of
the
most
valuable
things
you
can
do.
These
simple
little
things
below
take
up
your
little
time.
__1__
·Let
your
kid
“catch”
you
reading.
Buy
a
novel
or
a
magazine
next

__3__.
So
care
about
your

to
talk
about
what
his
class
is
reading.
If
time
is
short,
you
can
even
do
this
on
the

or
while
you're
getting
dinner
ready.
·There
are
words
all
around.
Point

out
to
your
child.
Ask
him
if
he
can
read
a
word
you've
both
just
seen,
and
if
he
doesn't
know
what
it
means,
make
a
point
of
looking
it
up
in
a
dictionary
when
you
get
home.
·__5__
This
trick
(诀窍)
works
for
kids
of
almost
any
age.
For
the
youngest
kids,
hearing
a
bedtime
story
makes
them
realize
that
books
have
words,
and
those
words
tell
them
many
things.
Older
children
can
sit
next
to
you
and
read
along.
Kids
who
are
reading
on
their
own
might
even
want
to
read
a
story
to
you.
A.Turn
bedtime
into
“story
time”.
B.Move
your
child
into
reading
independently.
C.Words
are
on
subway
signs
and
the
sides
of
buses.
D.That
just
lets
your
kid
see
you
reading
and
enjoying
it.
E.But
they
can
surely
develop
your
child
into
a
good
reader.
F.Most
kids
love
to
talk
when
their
parents
are
paying
much
attention.
G.However,
they
can
make
a
big
difference
if
your
child
wants
to
learn
to
read.

common
natural
calamities.
It
may
cause
great
damage.
So
it
is
wise
to
learn
some
simple
safety
tips
to
protect
yourself
or
your
family
members.
Fragile
(易碎的)
items,
like
those
made
of
glass
are
easily
broken
and
should
usually
be
placed
on
a
lower

near
the
ground
instead
of
placing
them
on
cupboards
higher
up.
Never
place
them
near
your
bed,
sofas
and
other
furniture
where
you
would
be
sitting
or
lying
down.
When
there
is
a
strong
movement,
these
pieces
will
fall
on
the
floor
directly
and
not
on
you.
There
is
a
strong
chance
of
short
circuits
(短路)
and
fire
outbreaks
during
an
earthquake.
Make
sure
you
turn
off
electrical
connections
and
gas
immediately
when
an
earthquake
happens.

an
earthquake,
lie
beneath
an
object
that
is
not
easily
damaged.
Do
not
go
near
objects
that
could
directly
fall
on
you.
Never
use
the
elevator
to
go
down.
Stay

until
the
shaking
stops
and
it
is
safe
to
go
outside.

has
shown
that
most
injuries
happen
when
people
inside
buildings
try
to
go
out.
Use
the
staircases
at
all
times.
If
you
are
outdoors,
do
not
take
shelter
under
a
tree,
streetlights,
electric
poles
or
tall
buildings.
If
you
are
driving,
stop
your
car
and
stay
in
a
safe
place.
Do
not
park
your
car
under
a
tree
or
any
tall
object.
If
trapped
in
debris
(碎片),
cover
your
mouth
with
a
handkerchief
or
clothing.
Tap
on
a
pipe
or
wall
so
rescuers
can
find
you.
Use
a
whistle
if
one
is
available.
Never
shout
for
help.
Shouting
can
cause
you
to
breathe
in
dangerous
dust.
Do
not
light
a
match
because
you
may
burn
yourself.
Do
not

earthquakes.
B
If
you
want
to
travel
from
Xi'an
to
Chengdu
by
train,
it
will
take
about
16
hours.
But
starting
from
December,
2017,
the
new
Xi'an-Chengdu
high?speed
railway
has
shortened
this
travel
time
to
three
hours.
The
643?kilometer
line
is
China's
first
high?speed
railway
to
run
through
the
Qinling
Mountains,
which
form
a
natural
boundary
(分界线)
between
China's
north
and
south.
With
a
speed
of
250
km
per
hour,
it's
also
the
first
mountain?heavy
train
line
to
provide
a
4G
network.
Along
the
way,
the
train
passes
through
two
areas
for
rare
wild
animals—one
for
pandas
and
the
other
for
crested
ibises
(朱鹮).
To
reduce
the
railway's
influence
on
the
animals,
workers
and
experts
have
designed
and
built
the
railway
to
be
environmentally
friendly.
There
were
345
wild
pandas
living
in
the
Qinling
Mountains.
China
now
has
l,864
wild
pandas
in
total,
according
to
the
Xinhua
News
Agency.
To
avoid
disturbing
the
pandas,
the
railway
was
designed
to
run
through
tunnels
within
the
area.
Protective
shields
(防护屏)
are
placed
near
the
entrance
of
each
tunnel
to
stop
animals
from
going
in.
To
protect
the
thousands
of
crested
ibises
that
fly
near
one
part
of
the
railway,
protective
nets
have
been
set
up
to
make
sure
the
birds
will
not
fly
into
a
train.
The
nets
are
about
32
km
long
and
4
meters
high.
Experts
tested
different
shapes
and
materials
for
building
the
nets
before
making
their
final
choice.

hour
6.Why
did
people
build
the
railway
to
be
environmentally

save
money
and
energy.
B.To
avoid
damaging
the
mountains.
C.To
avoid
harming
the
wild
animals.
D.To
help
the
train
run
through
tunnels
quietly.
7.What
are
experts
using

课时作业(十七)
Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了人们在地震发生时应该注意哪些方面的问题。
1.答案与解析:B 考查词义猜测。依据下文中的“It
may
cause
great
damage”可知,地震是一种最常见的自然灾害,故选B。
2.答案与解析:D 考查细节理解。依据第三段中的“Make
sure
you
turn
off
electrical
connections
and
gas
immediately
when
an
earthquake
happens”可知,作者建议人们在地震发生时立即关闭电和燃气,故选D。
3.答案与解析:C 考查细节理解。依据题干中的“they
are
trapped
in
debris”可知答案出自尾段,依据尾段中的“Do
not
light
a
match
because
you
may
burn
yourself”可知C项正确。
4.答案与解析:D 考查主旨大意。通读全文可知,作者主要介绍了人们在地震发生时该做什么,不该做什么,故选D。
B
【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了从西安到成都的环保型高铁。
5.答案与解析:C 考查细节理解。由第一段中的“But
starting
from
December,2017,
the
new
Xi'an?Chengdu
high?speed
railway
has
shortened
this
travel
time
to
three
hours”可知,从2017年12月开始,西安到成都的高铁的开通已使得这段行程的用时缩短到3个小时。
6.答案与解析:C 考查细节理解。由第三段中的“To
reduce
the
railway's
influence
on
the
animals,
workers
and
experts
have
designed
and
built
the
railway
to
be
environmentally
friendly”可知,为了减少铁路对动物的影响,也就是为了避免伤害野生动物,人们建造对环境友善的铁路,故选C。
7.答案与解析:D 考查细节理解。由倒数第二段“To
protect
the
thousands
of
crested
ibises
that
fly
near
one
part
of
the
railway,
protective
nets
have
been
set
up
to
make
sure
the
birds
will
not
fly
into
a
train”可知,为了防止鸟飞入火车,专家设置了保护网,故选D。
8.答案与解析:A 考查主旨大意。文章主要介绍了从西安到成都的高铁。为了避免伤害野生动物,专家采用了对环境友善的线路设计,通过各种防护措施来防止动物误入,故选A。
Ⅱ.完形填空
【语篇解读】 作者看到一个衣衫褴褛无家可归的人帮助一个穿着得体的人,想到了人性的光辉。号召大家多给予别人关心和爱护。
1.答案与解析:B 停车场前有一块绿色的草坪,专供人们(folks)挂销售广告招牌用。此处应该指这个社区的所有人都可以用。
2.答案与解析:A sight是指后面作者所看到的情景。scenery指自然风光和美景,显然不合逻辑。
3.答案与解析:C 根据该句最后的while
he
hammered可获得提示。knock是hammer的同义词。knock...into把……敲进。
4.答案与解析:B 根据下文可知,一个穿着非常正式而另一个无家可归之人衣衫褴褛,可见这种对比特别鲜明,令作者一时缓不过神来。
5.答案与解析:D 根据but可知前后是对比关系。一个是士兵制服外加雪白衬衫,另外一个是无家可归之人,穿的是破烂的衣服。broken表示衣服破了,但不一定不是昂贵不得体的衣服。
6.答案与解析:A 尽管衣不蔽体,两者相差悬殊,但是无家可归者还是在帮助衣着体面者。这就是holy“圣洁”的人性。
7.答案与解析:D look
at的结果词是see。大多数时间我们看着这些无家可归之人,往往都没有在意,只是认为他们就是无家可归之人,没有想到他们也是人,也有人性光辉的一面。give
away捐赠;ask
for要求获得;depend
on依靠。
8.答案与解析:B 此处实际上所指的就是前文提到的帮助钉广告招牌的那个无家可归之人。
9.答案与解析:A 看人不要只看外表,要超越外表去看一个人的内心。
10.答案与解析:D have
the
opportunity
to
do
sth.固定短语,意为“有机会做某事”。
11.答案与解析:B 表达“上面写道”英语只能用say或者read这两个动词。
12.答案与解析:C 大家都能这样做就能对世界带来很大的影响。make
a
difference有影响。
13.答案与解析:D 根据上文的who
taught
me
to
cheer
for
humanity可知答案。
14.答案与解析:C it指前文的to
cheer
for
humanity。作者的意思是说这样做的确会使情况有所改变,换句话说“的确有效”。
15.答案与解析:C 与下文的a
helping
hand一致的应该是C项。文章所渲染的主要是人性的善与恶不在于外表,因此此题应该选与桀骜不驯的外表形成反差的词语,由此排除A和B。

B
I
remember
the
day
when
I
first
learned
to
ride
a
bike.
It
was
a
frightening,
yet
fun
experience.
My
granddad
was
the
one
who
taught
me,
and
he
helped
me
when
I
got
hurt.
The
first
time
I
got
on
a
bike,
I
had
no
idea
what
I
was
doing,
and
just
about
everything
went
wrong.
My
granddad
told
me
to
just
put
my
feet
on
the
pedals
and
start
pedaling
(骑自行车).
He
also
told
me
he
would
hold
onto
the
back
of
the
bike
the
whole
time,
yet
he
didn't.
As
soon
as
I
started
trying
to
balance
myself,
he
let
go.
I
happened
to
look
back
just
then.
I
was
scared
to
death
that
I
was
going
to
fall
and
hurt
myself.
When
I
was
scared,
my
mind
went
blank
from
pedaling,
and
I
just
wanted
off.
I
forgot
how
to
use
the
brakes
(车闸)
and
fell
right
off
the
bike.
My
granddad
kept
encouraging
me
to
get
up
and
try
again,
and
after
about
15
minutes,
I
finally
stopped
crying,
got
up
and
tried
again.
As
soon
as
I
started
pedaling
again,
my
pants
got
caught
in
the
chain,
and
I
fell
flat
on
my
face
and
hit
my
nose.
Since
that
happened,
my
granddad
decided
to
call_it_a_day
and
try
again
the
next
morning.
The
next
morning
I
woke
up
bright
and
early,
and
was
very
eager
to
try
to
ride
my
bike.
My
nose
felt
better,
so
I
wasn't
that
afraid
of
falling
anymore.
Though
I
knew
there
were
a
lot
of
difficulties
on
the
way
to
mastering
the
skills
in
riding
a
bike,
I
believed
I
could
do

After
all,

Ⅱ.概要写作
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
When
was
the
last
time
you
sent
someone
a
letter
by
regular
mail?
Thanks
to
the
Internet,
many
people
prefer
to
send
e?mails
rather
than
mail
letters
using
the
postal
system.
Young
people
entering
the
working
world
today
find
themselves
sending
and
replying
to
hundreds
of
business
related
e?mails
every
week.
However,
many
of
these
same
young
people
don't
seem
to
know
some
basic
rules
when
it
comes
to
sending
e?mails
at
work.
Most
of
the
people
said
they
didn't
check
their
spelling
or
punctuation
(标点)
before
hitting
“send”.
Even
more
surprising
was
that
5%
of
them
said
they
sometimes
end
e?mails
to
their
bosses
with
the
words
“love
and
kisses”!
While
this
is
fine
for
personal
messages
to
friends
and
loved
ones,
it
is
normally
considered
improper
in
the
workplace.
The
main
reason
for
this
use
of
informal
language
in
workplace
e?mails
is
that
a
lot
of
young
people
have
always
communicated
with
others
on
the
Internet—especially
using
e?mails—in
a
relaxed
and
friendly
manner.
For
many
people,
online
communication
outside
of
work,
such
as
talking
with
others
in
chat
rooms,
posting
information
on
message
boards,
and
sending
e?mails
to
friends,
is
usually
for
fun.
Another
reason
is
that
young
people
now
are
unfamiliar
with
how
to
write
formal
letters,
because
they
have
never
had
to
write
a
formal
letter
before.
They
have
had
no
training
in
how
to
write
a
basic
business
letter,
and
are
unaware
of
the
style
and
language
that
should,
and
should
not,
be
used.
With
more
business
letters
now
being
conducted
using
the
Internet
than
ever
before,
it
is
important
for
people
to
realize
the
differences
in
language
use
between
personal
and
business
communication—especially
when
they're
using
e?mails.
So
next
time
you
send
an
e?mail
at
the
office,
remember
you're
not
just
online,
you're
at
work.

she

two
didn't

each
other
well—Taylor
had
just
moved
to
town
a
month
or
so
before.
Suddenly,
Paris
fell
to
the
ground.“Paris's
eyes
rolled
back,”
Taylor
says.“She
started
shaking.I
knew
it
was
an
emergency.”
It
certainly
was.Paris
had
suffered
a
sudden
heart
failure.Without
immediate
medical
care,
Paris
would
die.
At
first,
no
one
moved.The
girls
were
in
shock.Then
the
softball
coach
shouted
out,
“Does
anyone
know
CPR?”
CPR
is
a
life?saving
technique.To
do
CPR,
you
press
on
the
sick
person's
chest
so
that
blood
moves
through
the
body
and
takes
oxygen
to
organs.Without
oxygen
the
brain
is
damaged
quickly.
Amazingly,
Taylor
had
just
taken
a
CPR
course
the
day
before.Still,
she
hesitated.She
didn't
think
she
knew
it
well
enough.But
when
no
one
else
came
forward,
Taylor
ran
to
Paris
and
began
doing
CPR.“It
was
scary.I
knew
it
was
the
difference
between
life
and
death,”
says
Taylor.
Taylor's
swift
action
helped
her
teammates
calm
down.One
girl
called

to
get
the
school
nurse,
who
brought
a
defibrillator,
an
electronic
device(器械)
that
can
shock
the
heart
back
into
work.Luck
stayed
with
them:
Paris's
heartbeat
returned.
“I
know
I
was
really
lucky,”
Paris
says
now.“Most
people
don't
survive
this.My
team
saved
my
life.”
Experts
say
Paris
is
right:
For
a
sudden
heart
failure,
the
single
best
chance
for
survival
is
having
someone
nearby
step
in
and
do
CPR
quickly.
Today,
Paris
is
back
on
the
softball
team.Taylor
will
apply
to
college
soon.She
wants
to
be
a
nurse.“I
feel
more
confident
in
my
actions
now,”
Taylor
says.“I

I

pressure
in
a

situation.”

a
sudden
heart
failure,the
single
best

the

said
Dickson
Despommier,
a
professor
of

at
Colombia
University.One
solution
is
to
grow
everything
from
salad
grains
to
main
grains
year?round
in
high?rise
buildings
at
the
hearts
of
urban
centers.This
so?called

food
within
easy
reach
for
billions
of
people
while
reducing
carbon
emissions(碳排放)
from
shipping
crops
across
continents
and
oceans.
“It
is
based
on
technologies
already
in
use
throughout
the
world,
mainly
high?tech
greenhouses,”
Despommier
said.For
example,
many
existing
greenhouses
use
hydroponics,
a
technique
for
growing
crops
in
smaller
spaces
using
water
instead
of
soil.
But
for
now
high?rise
farming
remains
just
an
idea.One
challenge
is
how
to
build
the
greenhouses
so
that
layers
of
crops
get
enough
light
to
be
grown
in
a
vertical
structure.Despommier
says
that
architects
are
already
designing
buildings
to
harvest
the
maximum
amount
of
natural
light.What's
more,
by
using
new
energy
sources
such
as
hydrothermal
power(热能)
and
wind
power,
these
buildings
don't
necessarily
have
to

Another
consideration
is
creating
a
vertical

design
that
would
be
economically
practical.Despommier
said
he
was
particularly
interested
in
Eco?Laboratory.It
would
be
just
12
stories
tall
and
would
mix
houses
with
gardens
that
produce
food
for
the
local
neighborhood.
“This
was
an
attempt
at
something
that
seemed
practical
to
a
developer,”
said
project
designer
Myer
Harrell.People
might
tend
the
crops,
or
they
might
assign
the
work
to
outside
agricultural
firms
and
later
purchase
the
crops
at
a
local
market.
Harrell
believes
breaking
ground
on
Eco?Laboratory
or
a
similar
small
building
could
be
probable
within
the
next
few
years,
as
people
become
more
interested
in
self?sufficiency(自足)
such
as
growing
their
own
food.
文章大意:本文主要介绍了垂直农业将会成为未来解决粮食短缺的一种有效方法。
4.According
to
Despommier,
vertical
farming
can________.
A.produce
crops
with
more
nutrients
B.provide
enough
food
for
the
world
population
C.reduce
farmers'
cost
of
growing
crops
D.be
helpful
in
slowing
down
global
warming
答案:D
解析:推理判断题。从第二段最后一句可知,垂直农业的实施将有助于降低碳排放量,从而有利于减缓全球变暖。
5.What
does
Harrell
think
of
Eco?Laboratory?
A.Expensive.
B.Workable.
C.Fantastic.
D.Difficult.
答案:B
解析:推理判断题。从倒数第二段引述的Harrell的话尤其是“practical”以及最后一段第一句中的“probable”可推知,Harrell认为垂直农业是切实可行的,故选B项。
6.All
of
the
following
are
advantages
of
vertical
farming
EXCEPT
that
________.
A.it
creates
year?round
crop
production
B.it
makes
use
of
less
farmlands
C.it
is
far
away
from
urban
centers
D.it
offers
opportunities
of
self?sufficiency
for
citizens
答案:C
解析:细节理解题。由第二段倒数第二句和最后一段可知,A、B、D项都属于垂直农业的优点。由文章第二段倒数第二句可知,垂直农业一般是位于市中心的高层建筑内,故C项表述错误。
7.Which
of
the
following
would
be
the
best
title
for
this
passage?
A.Vertical
farming:
the
pride
of
architects
B.Skyscrapers:

of
growing
crops
C.High?rise
farms:
the
future
of
food
D.Greenhouses:
the
promise
of
free
carbon
emissions
答案:C
解析:标题归纳题。本文主要介绍了垂直农业将成为未来解决粮食短缺问题的办法,并预测了它的前景,故C项最符合文章主旨。

that
even
their

found
it
difficult
to

at

during
their
initial
days
on

However,
they
were
very
different
from
each

when
it

Sam

up,
their
father
wanted
to

them.However,
Tom
did

agreed.Their
father
decided

the
two.He
asked

A
Yasmin
Eisenhauer,
a
teacher
at
Lowell
School,
told
her
class
last
fall
that
they
were
going
to
make
the
trees
on
their
school
grounds
talk.
“What?
How
are
we
going
to
do
this?”
thought
Lusya
Mae
Engen,
a
student
in
Yasmin's
class.
But
the
kids
soon
learned
what
their
teacher
meant.
“We're
trying
to
get
people
to
talk
with
the
trees
through
technology,”
said
Lusya.
First,
the
students
picked
their
own
trees.Then,
each
student
had
to
learn
all
about
his
or
her
tree,
like
how
tall
it
was,
how
the
tree's
leaves
felt
and
looked,
and
during
what
season
it
flowered.To
get
all
the
information,
they
used
the
Internet
and
some
math.
Next,
the
students
wrote
what
they
had
learned
about
their
trees
and
they
recorded
their
own
voices
talking
as
if
they
were
their
trees,
telling
people
all
about
who
they
were.That
was
the
technology
part.
“It
was
really
cool
to
connect
technology
with
nature,”
said
Azur
Walla,
another
student
in
the
class.
The
kids
named
their
trees
things
like
Dog
“N”
Woods,
Harlo
Tree
or
Freddy.They
also
added
their
own
creative
voices
to
the
project,
and
asked
people
looking
at
the
trees
to
sing
a
song
in
their
shade(阴凉处)
or
give
the
trees
a
hug(拥抱).
“My
name
is
Charlotte.I
was
given
this
name
by
my
friend
Brooke.She
is
really
nice
and
tries
to
visit
me
every
day.What
is
your
name?”
Then
“Charlotte”
tells
the
listener
all
about
her
leaves,
and
how
big
she
is.She
ends
by
saying:“I
hope
you
come
back
to
visit
me
because
of
course
I
can't
come
to
you.”
The
project
took
a
whole
year
to
complete.The
kids
met
about
once
a
week
to
work
on
it.Now
visitors
can
visit
the
Lowell
school
grounds
during
off?school
hours
and
take
the
tree
tour
with
their
cell
phones
by
calling
a
phone
number
that
is
on
a
sign
next
to
22
trees.

B
Natural
disasters
are
often
the
headlines
of
newspapers.There
have
been
floods,
earthquakes,
volcanoes,
wildfires,
snowstorms
and
so
on.People
often
find
themselves
in
the
middle
of
one
of
these
disasters
and
have
their
lives
completely
destroyed.But
it
doesn't
have
to
be
that
way
for
you
and
your
family.There
are
several
important
steps
that
you
can
take
to
help
you
and
your
family
reduce
the
damage.
The
most
important
thing
is
to
develop
a
plan.Discover
just
what
disasters
you
can
expect
in
your
area
and
think
how
to
best
prepare
for
them.Every
city,
family,
and
home
has
different
threats(威胁)
and
dangers.It
is
up
to
you
to
evaluate(评估)
your
situation
and
come
up
with
a
proper
plan.
Share
responsibilities(责任)
with
everyone.You
are
going
to
have
to
work
together
as
a
team!
Every
family
member
should
know
what
to
do,
where
to
go,
and
how
to
get
there.Everyone
also
needs
to
know
how
they
will
communicate
about
their
locations
and
their
condition
to
the
family.Make
sure
that
all
family
members
know
how
to
text
because
sending
a
text
will
often
work
when
voice
calls
won't.
Have
a
survival
kit(救生包)
ready
at
all
times.There
should
be
one
in
your
car,
your
home,
even
one
at
your
office.Rotate(更换)
the
food
and
water
in
it
every
6
months.Also
check
batteries
and
the
functions
of
flashlights,
radios,
and
other
battery?operated
equipment
in
it.Make
sure
you
know
how
to
use
all
the
tools.
Unfortunately,
natural
disasters
don't
wait
for
you
to
be
prepared
enough
before
they
strike.They
usually
happen
suddenly
when
you
least
expect
them.But
do
the
right
things
for
you
and
your
family
by
getting
prepared
in
advance,
and
you
will
never
be
sorry.
