Success doesn抰 begin until you begin the walk down the way towards your goals. And your walk down the way always begins first with a baby step. Why do we call them baby steps? Are they really anything more than our next step down life抯 way?
Baby steps are the first steps we take as an act of faith. We see others stepping out and we want to show our ability to walk by following them. As we grow, we continue our development by taking extra baby steps. Sometimes we fall; sometimes we fail. After that, all steps become an act of faith; we just become more practiced. If you say to yourself 揑 don抰 want to make a fool of myself or 揑抎 better be good at this, you抣l probably never take the baby steps towards your goals and end up lying in your own self-pity.
As a culture, we focus on results. We think about every risk that must be taken to reach our goals. There are few people who are excellent performers of any tasks the first time they try them. They fail and succeed. Then, they build upon their abilities learned each time. They practice their skills and use their talents through baby steps before they are ready to prove them to the whole world.
So, learn to take those baby steps to reach the goals before you. Know that you can depend on God to show you the way. As you become more experienced, your baby steps become a walk, then a jump, and finally a sprint. That’s how our baby steps lead us through the marathon of life.
24. In the third paragraph, the writer expresses the view that .
A. we can’t expect to succeed without working hard at first

D. baby steps play the key role in leading us towards success
25. The underlined word “sprint” in the last paragraph probably means“ ”.
A. slow rush
B. sudden stop
C. hard climb
D. fast run
26. What抯 the writer抯 tone in the text?
A. Light-hearted.
B. Regretful.
C. Encouraging.
D. Concerned.

Scientists have been working to grow meat 搃n vitro,攐r in a laboratory, for many years. In the laboratory, they mix cells(细胞)from a horse and a pig. They feed the cells to help them increase in number and grow into a small piece of meat.
Right now, the meat that scientists have made is very small and looks gray because in vitro meat does not need blood to grow. But this is not its only problem. It takes a long time for the meat to grow and scientists do not know how to make a large amount. It also costs a lot of money to make in vitro meat. Making enough for one meal would cost $250,000.
Although producing in vitro meat has many problems, scientists continue to work because in vitro meat would have many advantages. Since we have 7,000,000,000 people on the planet to feed in, vitro meat can help lower the need for the earth’s resources(资源).
Besides, “Moving the production of meat from farms to laboratories would help cut down the huge amount of harmful gases produced by farm animals, says reporter Nick Collins.
In vitro meat could solve many of the problems of animal meat. But can humans eat this in vitro meat? Scientists do not know if it even tastes like real meat. Because of food research laws, they are not yet able to taste their meat. But they hope someday people can buy it in their local market. They say it is real meat and it is just made in a different way.
A lot of people are still worried about in vitro meat. However, it will be years before the meat is ready to sell. Kate Shipard, a writer for Mother Jones magazine, says, 揑t will equire hard testing before it can be fed to humans. It is still such a new idea that we do not know yet what health problems it may have. Right now, there are no rules for in vitro meat.
27. What are the scientists trying to find out in their experiment?
A. How to get a new kind of animal.
B. How to make a new kind of meat.
C. How to make animal meat taste better.
D. How to greatly increase animals numbers.
28. What抯 Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The ways to improve the experiment.
B. The bad influence the experiment brings.
C. The problems scientists face in the experiment.
D. The difficulty in collecting money for the experiment.
29. What does Nick think of in vitro meat?
A. It stops people抯 cruelty to animals.
B. It is environmentally friendly.
C. It is against the rules.
D. It worries him a lot.
30. According to scientists, in vitro meat ____.
A. is safe to eat.

第二节 概要写作(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的概要。
Coronaviruses (冠状病毒) are a large group of viruses that are common among animals. In rare cases, they are what scientists call zoonotic, meaning they can be passed from animals to humans.
The viruses can make people sick, usually with a upper respiratory tract (呼吸道) illness, similar to a common cold. Coronavirus symptoms (症状) include a runny nose, cough, sore throat, possibly a headache and maybe a fever, which can last for a couple of days. For those with a weakened immune system, the elderly and the very young, there抯 a chance the virus could cause a lower, and much more serious, respiratory tract illness.
There are a handful of human coronaviruses that are known to be deadly. Middle East respiratory syndrome, also known as the MERS virus, was first reported in the Middle East in 2012 and also causes respiratory problems, but those symptoms are much more severe. Three to four out of every 10 patients infected with MERS died. Severe acute respiratory syndrome, also known as SARS, is the other coronavirus that can cause more severe symptoms. Depending on the patient’s age, the death rate with SARS ranged from 0-50% of the cases. The novel coronavirus is currently thought to be more mild than SARS and MERS and takes longer to develop symptoms.
There is no vaccine (疫苗) to protect against this family of viruses, at least not yet. You may be able to reduce your risk of infection by avoiding people who are sick. Try to avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Wash your hands often with soap and water and for at least 20 seconds. Awareness is key. If you are sick and have reason to believe it may be the novel coronavirus, you should let a health care provider know and seek treatment early.

W: Certainly. When would you like to come?
M: Well. I’m free next week.
W: I’m afraid he won’t be at home next week. We’ll be on holiday then.
M: Well, I see. This afternoon I’ll see a film in the cinema, which is near his home. Can I drop in after that?
W: Yes, he’ll be at home this afternoon. And he is free before 4 o’clock.
M: Oh, I won’t reach your home before 4 o’clock. Can I see him between 4 and 5?
W: I’m afraid not. He has a friend, Prof. Hunter, to meet him.
M: Well, all right. I’ll miss the film. I’ll come 3 o’clock this afternoon.
W: Fine, bye!
M: Bye!

This is some information for shoppers at Elwood Food Market. There are three large food halls here.
Turn left at the entrance for Hall 1. Here you can buy many different vegetables. Choose the vegetables yourself. Use the plastic bags and then pay for everything at the cash desk. This hall also has very good fish. It all comes here straight from the sea.
In Hall 2, you can find lovely cakes and bread. And next to this hall there is a cafe. You can get sandwiches, snacks and drinks all day in the cafe, and a hot breakfast until 11:30.
Hall 3 is the biggest hall and sells cheese, eggs and meat. In this hall there is also a special Italian shop. You can buy different pasta and they make pizza daily. At 55p a piece, it’s not expensive.
Children will love our new playroom. It’s at the end of the hall next to the telephones. You can leave them there safely when you shop.
Happy shopping!
