In
Europe,during
the
early
part
of
the
Middle
Ages,there
were
no
towns
or
cities.But
as
time
went
on,small
settlements
sprang
up
here
and
there.These
settlements
grew
into
towns.
The
Middle
Ages
were
dangerous
times.Men
fought
to
gain
control
of
the
land,and
outlaws
roamed
the
countryside.A
town
was
built
with
high
stone
walls
around
it.Sometimes
there
was
a
moat
around
the
walls
for
added
protection.The
only
way
to
enter
a
town
was
through
gates
in
its
walls.During
the
day,these
gates
were
guarded
by
soldiers,and
they
were
closed
and
locked
at
night.
Inside
the
thick
walls,the
people
of
the
town
lived
and
carried
on
their
business.But
the
town
held
more
than
houses.There
was
a
church,a
town
hall,and
an
inn
where
travelers
could
stay.In
later
years,there
were
sometimes
schools
and
libraries.
A
town
always
had
an
open
marketplace
where
small
shops
were
set
up.People
came
to
the
marketplace
to
buy
or
sell
goods,and
once
or
twice
a
year
a
fair
was
held
there.
More
towns
were
founded
in
the
hundred
years
between
1100
and
1200
than
that
had
been
built
during
the
past
thousand
years.By
the
1500s,towns
had
become
centers
of
trade
and
industry.Because
towns
provided
jobs
for
many
people,more
and
more
people
lived
and
worked
there.Towns
became
more
important
than
ever
before.
5.By
the
1500s,towns
had
become
centers
of________.
A.trade
and
industry
B.art
and
music
C.outlaws
and
robbers
D.schools

6.On
the

about________.
A.outlaws

the
countryside

soldiers
did
in
the
Middle
Ages
C.towns

D.the

the

7.Why
did
people
live
in
towns
with

them?
A.They
lived
inside
the
walls
for
protection.
B.They
thought
walls

look
at
the

there.
8.Which
statement
does
the
story
lead
you
to
believe?
A.There
have

been
towns

in
Europe.

Middle
Ages,people

(found)in
the
early
20th
century,the

keeps
on
inspiring
children's
love
of
art.
答案:Founded 本题考查非谓语动词。句意:建立于20世纪早期,这所学校一直激发着孩子们对艺术的热爱。此处为非谓语动词作状语,与句子的主语school之间为被动关系,故用过去分词形式。
2.That
guy
carved
the
old
man
up
and
robbed
him
________
his
money.
答案:of 考查动词在语境中的使用及固定搭配。rob

sth.“抢劫某人某物”。句意为“那个家伙砍伤了那个老头,抢走了他的钱”。根据题意填of。
3.________(strike)by
the
heavy
rain,the
area
was
flooded
seriously.
答案:Stricken 考查非谓语作状语的用法。the
area应该遭到大雨的侵袭,所以the
area与动词strike之间应构成被动关系,被动且完成,应使过去分词作状语,填stricken。句意为“受到大雨的侵袭,这个地区涝情严重”。
4.Linda
acts
as
if
she
were
the
boss,________

around.

he
achieves
his
goal.
答案:determined

invited
to
the
World
Economic
Forum
in
Dalian
stayed
in
the
flats
in
this
building,each

(equip)with
solar
heaters.
答案:equipped 句意:应邀参加大连世界经济论坛的多数记者住在这座大楼的公寓里,每套公寓都搭配有太阳能加热器。be

8.________
(promise)to
go
to
the
cinema
with
my
brother
already,I
can't
accept
your
invitation.
答案:Having
promised 句意:我因已答应与我弟弟去看电影而不能接受你的邀请。因为promise与主句的主语I之间是主动关系,并且其表示的动作明显地发生在主句谓语表示的动作之前,所以要用现在分词的完成式作状语。

friendly
way,their
quarrel

In
Europe,during
the
early
part
of
the
Middle
Ages,there
were
no
towns
or
cities.But
as
time
went
on,small
settlements
sprang
up
here
and
there.These
settlements
grew
into
towns.
The
Middle
Ages
were
dangerous
times.Men
fought
to
gain
control
of
the
land,and
outlaws
roamed
the
countryside.A
town
was
built
with
high
stone
walls
around
it.Sometimes
there
was
a
moat
around
the
walls
for
added
protection.The
only
way
to
enter
a
town
was
through
gates
in
its
walls.During
the
day,these
gates
were
guarded
by
soldiers,and
they
were
closed
and
locked
at
night.
Inside
the
thick
walls,the
people
of
the
town
lived
and
carried
on
their
business.But
the
town
held
more
than
houses.There
was
a
church,a
town
hall,and
an
inn
where
travelers
could
stay.In
later
years,there
were
sometimes
schools
and
libraries.
A
town
always
had
an
open
marketplace
where
small
shops
were
set
up.People
came
to
the
marketplace
to
buy
or
sell
goods,and
once
or
twice
a
year
a
fair
was
held
there.
More
towns
were
founded
in
the
hundred
years
between
1100
and
1200
than
that
had
been
built
during
the
past
thousand
years.By
the
1500s,towns
had
become
centers
of
trade
and
industry.Because
towns
provided
jobs
for
many
people,more
and
more
people
lived
and
worked
there.Towns
became
more
important
than
ever
before.

5.where where引导定语从句,修饰window。
6.in in

Ⅴ.阅读理解
Pygmalion
is
a
drama
in
which
Shaw
has
made
sentiments
one
of
the
principal
themes
of
discussion.The
Greek
sculptor
Pygmalion
carved
a
statue
and
fell
in
love
with
it.Aphrodite
(
the
goddess
of
love)
turned
the
statue
into
a
living
woman
named
Galatea,who
then
became
Pygmalion's
wife.
The
Shavian
Pygmalion
is
Henry
Higgins,a
professor
of
phonetics,who
picks
up
a
flower
girl,Eliza
Doolittle,teaches
her
to
speak
as
educated
people
do,and
then
successfully
passes_her_off_as
a
duchess.But
she
is
a
human
being
and
cannot
be
treated
as
a
machine.In
the
course
of
all
his
experiments
and
exhibitions,the
professor
only
thinks
of
the
success
and
failure
of
his
own
skills,but
never
stops
to
consider
how
the
girl
feels.When
the
experiment
is
over,he
has
a
profound
sense
of
relief
that
he
has
achieved
triumph
and
has
won
his
bet.Even
now,the
sentiment
of
the
girl
is
of
no
account.The
girl
naturally
protests
against
this
dehumanized
relationship
between
her
and
her
teacher.She
hurls
the
professor's
slippers
at
him
when
he
wants
them
and
then
leaves
his
place.But
evidently,she
has
begun
to
feel
for
the
professor
and
wants
also
to
be
felt
for.
Now
the
question
is
what
is
the
nature
of
Eliza's
feelings
for
the
professor
with
whom
she
has
lived
in
close
association
for
so
long?
In
the
last
act,the
girl
says
she
would
not
marry
him
even
if
he
had
proposed
(求婚)
to
her.The
professor,curiously
ineffectual
(无能的)
to
sexual
emotions,does
not
love
any
girl
because
he
finds
her
to
be
the
rival
(
对手)
to
his
mother.He
wonders,if
Eliza
does
not
want
to
marry
him,then
what
does
she
want
from
him?
Old
Mrs.Higgins,who
knows
much
about
a
woman
says
that
it
would
have
been
better
if
he
had
thanked
her
and
petted
her
and
told
her
how
wonderful
she
had
been.Then
perhaps
she
would
not
have
fought
with
him.Every
girl
loves
to
be
loved.Eliza
herself
says
that
she
loves
Freddy
and
he
also
loves
her.Professor
Higgins,however,remains
as
ever,an
old
bachelor.

Ⅴ.阅读理解
Pygmalion
is
a
drama
in
which
Shaw
has
made
sentiments
one
of
the
principal
themes
of
discussion.The
Greek
sculptor
Pygmalion
carved
a
statue
and
fell
in
love
with
it.Aphrodite
(
the
goddess
of
love)
turned
the
statue
into
a
living
woman
named
Galatea,who
then
became
Pygmalion's
wife.
The
Shavian
Pygmalion
is
Henry
Higgins,a
professor
of
phonetics,who
picks
up
a
flower
girl,Eliza
Doolittle,teaches
her
to
speak
as
educated
people
do,and
then
successfully
passes_her_off_as
a
duchess.But
she
is
a
human
being
and
cannot
be
treated
as
a
machine.In
the
course
of
all
his
experiments
and
exhibitions,the
professor
only
thinks
of
the
success
and
failure
of
his
own
skills,but
never
stops
to
consider
how
the
girl
feels.When
the
experiment
is
over,he
has
a
profound
sense
of
relief
that
he
has
achieved
triumph
and
has
won
his
bet.Even
now,the
sentiment
of
the
girl
is
of
no
account.The
girl
naturally
protests
against
this
dehumanized
relationship
between
her
and
her
teacher.She
hurls
the
professor's
slippers
at
him
when
he
wants
them
and
then
leaves
his
place.But
evidently,she
has
begun
to
feel
for
the
professor
and
wants
also
to
be
felt
for.
Now
the
question
is
what
is
the
nature
of
Eliza's
feelings
for
the
professor
with
whom
she
has
lived
in
close
association
for
so
long?
In
the
last
act,the
girl
says
she
would
not
marry
him
even
if
he
had
proposed
(求婚)
to
her.The
professor,curiously
ineffectual
(无能的)
to
sexual
emotions,does
not
love
any
girl
because
he
finds
her
to
be
the
rival
(
对手)
to
his
mother.He
wonders,if
Eliza
does
not
want
to
marry
him,then
what
does
she
want
from
him?
Old
Mrs.Higgins,who
knows
much
about
a
woman
says
that
it
would
have
been
better
if
he
had
thanked
her
and
petted
her
and
told
her
how
wonderful
she
had
been.Then
perhaps
she
would
not
have
fought
with
him.Every
girl
loves
to
be
loved.Eliza
herself
says
that
she
loves
Freddy
and
he
also
loves
her.Professor
Higgins,however,remains
as
ever,an
old
bachelor.
文章大意:萧伯纳的著名戏剧《卖花女》具有经久不衰的艺术魅力,描写的是语音学教授如何训练一名卖花女并使她最终被上流社会认可的故事,从而抨击了当时英国腐朽保守的等级意识。
1.What
does
the
underlined
phrase
“passes
her

in
Paragraph
2
mean?
A.let
her
pretend
to
be
B.dress

C.make

D.turn
into
答案:A 词义猜测题。根据前面的“...teaches
her
to
speak
as
educated
people
do”以及下文中时“In
the
course
of
all
his
experiments...”可推断,画线部分的意思是“使她假装或冒充成为”。
2.What
kind
of
person
do
you
think
Higgins
is
according
to
Paragraph
2?
A.He
is
a
kind
man.
B.He
is
a
considerate
man.
C.He
is
a
selfish
man.
D.He
is
a
rude
man.
答案:C 推理判断题。根据第二段第三句内容可知,Higgins只考虑自己的成败得失,从不考虑Eliza的感受,显然他是一个自私的人。
3.Eliza
doesn't
marry
Higgins
because________.
A.she
does
not
love
him
B.Higgins'
mother
does
not
like
any

her

C.Higgins
likes
to
be
a
bachelor
D.Higgins
does
not
love
any
girl
for
fear
of
her
being
his
mother's
rival
答案:D 细节理解题。根据最后一段第三句内容可知,Eliza不会嫁给Higgins,因为他担心未来的妻子会成为母亲的对手,所以不敢爱上任何一个女孩。
4.Which
of
the
following
statements
is
TRUE?
A.Shaw
was
in
fact
a
Greek
sculptor.
B.Henry
Higgins
is

wants
to
become
an
educated
lady
very
much.
D.Henry
Higgins
falls
in
love
with
Eliza
Doolittle
at
first
sight.
答案:B 细节理解题。根据文章第二段内容可知,语音学教授Henry
Higgins只是把卖花女Eliza
Doolittle当成了实验品,故B项表述正确。

答案:
1.C 与下文句子的衔接。意思是:也许中国的学生从来没有看过印度电影,然而Bollywood才是世界上最大的电影产业基地。
2.F 对上文的总结。浪漫,幽默,伴有着轻音乐和优美的舞姿,里面有一个英雄和美丽的女主角,这完全是一个充满乐趣的音乐片,故答案应为F。
3.B 段落承上启下的理解。Bollywood电影充满了完美的东西免于日常的烦恼。所以在电影里不会涉及到政治,贫穷和战争。在段末提到电影会带他们到一个神奇的世界,让他们远离烦恼,真爱可以征服一切。
4.E 对总启句的理解。后文提到,在美丽的画面后面,Bollywood电影强调传统的家庭观念。由此可知,答案应为E,Bollywood电影更多的关注传统的价值观。
5.G 对上下文的理解。句意为:因此如果你厌倦于好莱坞的动作片时,就找一部Bollywood的电影看看吧,它会带你进入一个活泼的多彩的世界,唱着爱情歌曲围着树去跳舞也是很酷的。Unit

Ⅴ.阅读理解
The

are
“rocket?boosters
(火箭助推器)”
to
the
brain
and
better

self?help
books,researchers
will
say
this
week.
Scientists,psychologists
(心理学家)
and
English
academics
at
Liverpool
University
have
found
that
reading
the
works
of
the
Bard
and
other
classical
writers
has
a
beneficial
effect
on
the
mind,catches
the
readers'
attention
and
causes
moments
of
self?reflection.
Using
scanners(扫描仪),they
monitored
the
brain
activity
of
volunteers
as
they
read
works
by
William
Shakespeare,William
Wordsworth,T.S
Eliot
and
others.
They
then
“translated”
the
texts
into
more
“straightforward(通俗易懂的)”,modern
language
and
again
monitored
the
readers'
brains
as
they
read
the
words.
Scans
showed
that
the
more
“challenging”
prose
(散文)and
poetry
set
off
far
more
electrical
activity
in
the
brain
than
the
more
pedestrian(通俗化)
versions.
Scientists
were
able
to
study
the
brain
activity
as
it
responded
to
each
word
and
record
how
it
“lit
up”
as
the
readers
encountered
unusual
words,
surprising
phrases
or
difficult
sentence
structure.
This
“lighting
up”
of
the
mind
lasts
longer
than
the
initial
electrical
spark,shifting
the
brain
to
a
higher
gear,encouraging
further
reading.
The
research
also
found
that
reading
poetry,in
particular,increased
activity
in
the
right
hemisphere
(半球)of
the
brain,an
area
concerned
with
“autobiographical
memory”,helping
the
reader
to
reflect
on
and
reappraise
their
own
experiences
in
light
of
what
they
have
read.
The
academics
said
this
meant
the
classics
were
more
useful
than
self?help
books.
Philip

English

has
worked
on
the

the
university's
magnetic
resonance
centre,will
tell
a
conference
this
week:
“Serious

acts

The
research
shows
the
power
of
literature
to
shift
mental
pathways,to
create
new
thoughts,shapes
and
connections
in
the
young
and
the
elderly
alike.
1.How
do
classics
such
as
Shakespeare
and
Wordsworth
benefit
the
readers?
A.They
set
off
far
less
electrical
activity
in
the
brain.
B.They
light
up
the
mind
shorter
than
the
initial
electrical
spark.
C.They
shift
physical
pathways
in
the
young
and
the
elderly.
D.They
draw
readers'
attention
and
help
make
self
examination.
2.Why
do
they
“translate”
the
texts
into
more
“straightforward”,modern
language?
A.To
prove
that
classics
are
more
useful
than
ordinary
versions.
B.To
show
self?help
books
act
like
rocket?boosters
to

C.To

week.
Scientists,psychologists
(心理学家)
and
English
academics
at
Liverpool
University
have
found
that
reading
the
works
of
the
Bard
and
other
classical
writers
has
a
beneficial
effect
on
the
mind,catches
the
readers'
attention
and
causes
moments
of
self?reflection.
Using
scanners(扫描仪),they
monitored
the
brain
activity
of
volunteers
as
they
read
works
by
William
Shakespeare,William
Wordsworth,T.S
Eliot
and
others.
They
then
“translated”
the
texts
into
more
“straightforward(通俗易懂的)”,modern
language
and
again
monitored
the
readers'
brains
as
they
read
the
words.
Scans
showed
that
the
more
“challenging”
prose
(散文)and
poetry
set
off
far
more
electrical
activity
in
the
brain
than
the
more
pedestrian(通俗化)
versions.
Scientists
were
able
to
study
the
brain
activity
as
it
responded
to
each
word
and
record
how
it
“lit
up”
as
the
readers
encountered
unusual
words,
surprising
phrases
or
difficult
sentence
structure.
This
“lighting
up”
of
the
mind
lasts
longer
than
the
initial
electrical
spark,shifting
the
brain
to
a
higher
gear,encouraging
further
reading.
The
research
also
found
that
reading
poetry,in
particular,increased
activity
in
the
right
hemisphere
(半球)of
the
brain,an
area
concerned
with
“autobiographical
memory”,helping
the
reader
to
reflect
on
and
reappraise
their
own
experiences
in
light
of
what
they
have
read.
The
academics
said
this
meant
the
classics
were
more
useful
than
self?help
books.
Philip
Davis,an
English
professor
who
has
worked
on
the
study
with
the
university's
magnetic
resonance
centre,will
tell
a
conference
this
week:
“Serious
literature
acts
like
a
rocketbooster
to
the
brain.”
The
research
shows
the
power
of
literature
to
shift
mental
pathways,to
create
new
thoughts,shapes
and
connections
in
the
young
and
the
elderly
alike.
