Is Zhalong big enough for all birds?
There are more than 9000 types of birds living in the world. Among them, 1186 kinds live in China. To protect those rare species, the Chinese government has established eight nature reserves over the years.
Yancheng Nature Reserve
Yancheng Nature Reserve is in Jiangsu Province in East China. It covers an area of over 4,530 square kilometers. It became one of the world’s most important wetlands in 2002. It is home to different kinds of plants and rare birds. There are not many red-crowned cranes in the world, but there are some there.
Qinghai?Lake?Bird?Island
Lying?180?kilometers?from?Qinghai?and?3200?metres?above sea level, Qinghai Lake is?the?largest?salt?water?lake?in China. The island is situated on the western shore of Qinghai Lake. It covers an area of less than 1 square kilometer, but it has become an important place for more than 100,000 migratory(迁徙的) birds since 1975.
Swan Lake
Located on Bayinbuluke (巴音布鲁克) Grassland ,in Xinjiang, Swan Lake comprises a total area of more than 300 square kilometers. A mountain wetland with a span of 30 kilometers from west to east and a width of 10 kilometers from north to south, in 1986 the area became a state-level nature reserve for swans. It is also the only nature reserve for swans in China.
