B
I’m
fond
of
EHS
because
English
is
my
favorite
subject.
Though
that
sounds
like
the
beginning
paragraph
of
a
suck-up(奉承者),
it’s
true.
I
love
reading
and
writing,
and
while
I
may
not
be
the
best
at
it,
certainly
try
my
hardest.
I
intend
to
run
for
EHS
Vice
President,
along
with
Jordan
Pincus,
because
I
feel
that’s
the
best
position
for
me
in
this
Honor
Society.
I
want
to
be
able
to
share
my
own
ideas
on
how
to
better
improve
EHS
without
being
the
absolute
top,
and
what
better
position
for
that
than
Vice
President.
I
feel
I’m
qualified
for
this
position
because
I’m
full
of
great
ideas
and
love
English.
I
actually
get
English,
and
get
along
very
well
with
others,
which
is
very
important
for
a
board
member.
As
a
team,
Jordan
and
I
work
very
well
together.
Despite
some
disagreeing
from
time
to
time,
the
two
of
us
actually
end
up
getting
more
done
at
a
faster
pace,
and
because
we
spend
most
of
our
time
together,
communication
issues
are
not
a
problem.
Nothing
is
better
for
Vice
Presidents
to
have
than
two
people
who
are
always
together.
On
top
of
that,
we
are
both
devoted
to
anything
we
start,
so
EHS
will
never
be
ignored
by
either
of
us.
I
will
contribute
all
I
can
to
EHS,
whether
in
making
sure
meetings
run
smoothly
or
finding
new
projects/events
for
the
club
to
do
as
a
whole.
I
personally
believe
that
I
am
fit
for
the
job
and
will
be
able
to
perform
tasks
above
the
highest
exceptions
placed
on
me,
which
may
sound
a
little
prejudiced
but
I
really
think
I'm
fit
for
this!
Thank
you
for
reading
this
and
taking
me
into
consideration.

This
is
a
photo
of
a
similar
car
I
own.
It’s
a
photo
of
a
Skoda
Fabia,
I
drive
one
too.
A
young
guy
also
got
out
of
a
similar
car
as
I
was
getting
close
to
mine.
I
laughed
and
was
prepared
to
leave.
The
young
guy
continued
to
have
a
conversation
with
me.
He
asked
me
how
I
found
the
car.
It
turned
out
that
it
was
his
first
day
to
drive
the
car
and
it
was
new
and
it
was
a
gift
from
his
parents
and
he’d
just
passed
his
driving
test
today!
What
a
coincidence
(巧合)!
Well,
this
was
a
special
moment
for
Nicholas.
Who
gets
a
new
car
the
day
they
learn
to
drive
and
then
drives
into
a
garage
and
has
a
talk
with
a
woman
who’s
driving
the
same
model
of
car?
Yes,
beautiful
synchronicity
(同步性)
in
full
view.
I
wanted
to
make
this
moment
special
for
Nicholas,
and
I
wanted
to
gift
him
something.
Thinking
on
my
feet,
I
thought
I’d
buy
him
a
lottery
ticket
(彩票)
but
it
wasn’t
special
enough.
I
got
into
my
car
and
removed
my
Guardian
Angel
key
ring
which
I
had
attached
to
my
front
mirror.
It
was
there
to
keep
me
safe.
My
birthday
is
on
Guardian
Angel’s
Day
too,
so
this
is
very
special
to
me.
I
gave
it
to
Nicholas
and
he
was
happy
to
receive
it.
Nicholas
gave
me
a
big
hug.
Nicholas
was
not
an
overconfident
guy.
He
also
told
me
his
mum
was
only
out
of
hospital
and
now
he’d
be
able
to
help
her
get
about.
I’ll
order
myself
another
Guardian
Angel
key
ring
for
my
car
for
fear
that
my
Guardian
Angel
will
not
be
protecting
me
without
the
key
ring.
As
for
Nicholas,
well,
I
wish
he
and
his
passengers
a
lifetime
of
safe
driving.

Kindness
Good
friends
are
not
just
kind
to
you;
they
are
kind
to
others
as
well.
People
like
being
around
them
because
they
are
positive
people.
The
kindness
they
spread
comes
from
inner
feelings
of
happiness
and
self-confidence.
In
contrast,
social
aggression,
such
as
meanness,
is
a
quality
that
shows
lack
of
respect
for
others
and
discontent
with
oneself.
These
feelings
outwardly
show
and
eventually
prevent
communications
and
genuine
friendships
from
forming.
Accepting
Good
friends
are
easy
to
talk
to
because
they
accept
what
you
are.
They
understand
the
things
that
are
important
to
you
and
the
values
that
you
hold.
Although
they
may
not
necessarily
agree
with
all
of
your
beliefs
and
actions,
they
will
never
judge
you.
People
who
can
accept
you
also
are
better
able
to
accept
themselves.
High
self-esteem
and
self-acceptance
are
intertwined.
Interest
According
to
American
writer
and
lecturer,
Dale
Carnegie,
showing
genuine
interest
in
others
is
one
way
to
promote
feelings
of
goodwill.
People
are
more
likely
to
remember
how
you
make
them
feel.
This
goes
beyond
good
listening
skills.
Good
friends
ask
questions
about
things
that
matter
to
you.
To
do
this,
they
must
put
aside
their
own
needs
and
focus
on
helping
others
feel
important.
If
you
make
them
feel
inferior,
they
will
not
enjoy
the
time
you
spend
together.
Honesty
Although
honesty
is
important
to
friendships,
it
may
be
one
of
the
most
difficult
qualities
to
maintain.
When
you
ask
a
friend
for
honesty,
she
may
prefer
preserving
the
peace
over
telling
you
what
she
really
thinks.
But
honesty
promotes
trust.
A
good
friend
cares
enough
to
tell
you
the
truth
and
has
sufficient
confidence
in
the
relationship
to
be
assured
of
a
positive
outcome.
32.
What
does
the
kindness
of
a
friend
come
from
according
to
the
passage?
A.
Respect.
B.
Excitement.
C.
Happiness.
D.
Belief.
33.
What
good
friends
will
do
if
you
make
them
feel
less
important
according
to
the
passage?
A.
They
will
begin
to
care
about
their
own
needs.
B.
They
will
take
no
interest
in
you.
C.
They
will
feel
uncomfortable
to
stay
with
you.
D.
They
are
more
likely
to
question
about
themselves.
34.
The
underlined
word
“intertwined”
in
the
second
paragraph
probably
means___________.
A.
connected
B.
complicated
C.
obvious
D.
common
35.
What
is
the
passage
mainly
about?
A.
Being
kind
to
friends.
B.
Why
we
need
friends.
C.
How
to
make
friends.
D.
Qualities
of
a
good
friendship.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Here
are
a
few
examples
of
some
things
that
parents
can
learn
from
children
if
they
listen
and
make
the
most
of
their
time
together。
Technology:
Whether
it’s
programming
the
DVR,
texting
or
how
to
adapt
to
the
latest
Facebook
layout(设计)
change,
most
parents
will
find
their
children
are
at
least
one
step
ahead
of
them.
36
Let
your
children
show
you
a
few
things
and
find
common
ground
that
can
lead
to
great
discussions.
Trends:
Many
parents
are
shocked
when
they
hear
about
new
trends
on
the
nightly
news.
From
cyberbullying
(网络欺凌)
to
teens
abusing
drugs,
it’s
important
for
parents
to
know
what’s
going
on
in
the
world
their
children
live
in.
Develop
an
open
and
trusting
relationship
with
your
children.
37
Patience:
38
How
parents
deal
with
those
mistakes
will
teach
both
the
children
and
the
parents
many
things.
For
parents,
one
of
the
important
skills
that
can
be
learned
is
how
to
be
patient.
Work
at
it
and
it'll
be
worth
it!
Forgiveness:
When
kids
make
mistakes—and
they
will—it’s
important
that
parents
learn
how
to
forgive
and
move
on
in
a
positive
way.
39
But
your
children
will
learn
from
your
example
and
maybe
become
more
patient
with
you!
Wonder:
40
Let
your
children’s
natural
curiosity
inspire
you
to
see
the
world
differently.
Children
can
help
us
pause
to
appreciate
the
wonders
of
our
world.
Go
where
they
want
to
go.
A.
Kids
will
make
mistakes.
B.
This
is
not
an

I
like
cats.
When
I
was
a
child,
I
used
to
ask
my
parents
to
have
a
cat,
but
they
never
allowed
me
to
have
one.
Whenever
I
brought
a
stray
(走失的)
cat
home,
the
next
morning
it
was
gone.
My
parents
took
it
somewhere
because
they
didn't
like
cats.
They
believed
that
a
cat
might
bother
them
and
they
never
allowed
me
to
get
a
pet
inside
of
the
house.
But
now,
there
are
cats
at
my
parents'
home,
and
they
like
cats
very
much.
The
first
cat
that
we
had
in
our
life
changed
their
minds,
and
she
was
the
best
cat
we
have
ever
had.
The
name
of
the
cat
was
Mar.
When
I
was
a
university
student,
I
lived
in
an
apartment
alone
far
away
from
my
parents.
I
hadn't
forgotten
my
dream
which
was
to
have
a
cat,
so
I
decided
to
have
a
cat
and
hide
it
from
my
parents.
I
asked
my
friends
if
anybody
had
a
kitty,
and
one
of
them
gave
it
to
me.
I
liked
her
short,
gray
hair
and
her
eyes;
one
was
blue,
and
the

one
was
green.
In
China,
it
is
said
that
to
have
a
cat
whose
eyes
are
different
colors
is
lucky.
I
also
liked
her
long,
straight
tail.
It
was
so
easy
to
live
with
her.
She
was
well-mannered,
and
she
was
very
quiet
and
calm.
At
first,
I
was
afraid
that
she
couldn't
meow(叫)
because
I
didn't
hear
her
voice
at
all.
When
I
took
her
to
an
animal
hospital,
they
told
me
she
had
to
have
an
injection
(注射).
She
was
calm,
but
at
that
time,
she
only
made
just
a
small
voice.
Living
alone
changed
for
me
once
I
had
Mar.
She
was
always
beside
me,
and
I
felt
comfortable
and
peaceful.
I
didn't
know
how
wonderful
it
is
to
have
a
pet
until
I
met
Mar.
I
felt
like
we
had
a
bond
which
was
not
like
the
one
between
friends,
but
like
the
one
between
family
members.
She
was
not
only
my
pet,
but
also
she
became
something
special
for
me.

not
drink
it
black!
The
taste
is
so
strong!
W:
Ok,
well,
then,
do
you
like
sweet
coffee?
M:
I
guess
so.
To
be
honest,
I’m
not
much
of
a
coffee
drinker.
I’ve
always
been
more
of
a
tea
drinker,
but
lately
my
friends
have
all
started
going
out
for
coffee
and
juice.
I
feel
like
a
fool
when
it
is
time
to
order
because
I
have
no
idea
what
to
get!
W:
Coming
right
up!
You
can
pick
up
your
drink
at
the
end
of
the
bar.
Have
a
great
day!
M:
Thanks
for
your
help!
Where
is
your
tip
jar?
W:
Down
at
the
end
of
the
counter
with
the
drinks.
M:
Great!
Have
a
great
day!

W:
Jay,
how
were
your
New
Year’s
celebrations?
M:
I
celebrated
with
my
host
family
since
I
didn’t
go
home.
It’s
a
long
way
from
here
to
Beijing.
W:
Did
you
have
a
good
time
with
your
host
family?
M:
Yeah,
it
was
fun
sharing
our
stories.
What
did
you
do
to
celebrate
New
Year’s?
W:
Each
family
is
different,
I
think.
But
one
of
my
family
traditions
is
the
Rose
Bowl
and
the
Rose
Parade.
M:
Wait,
what’s
the
Rose
Bowl?
And
what’s
the
Rose
Parade?
W:
Well,
the
Rose
Bowl
is
an
annual
American
college
football
game,
usually
played
on
January
1st.
The
Rose
Parade
is
held
on
the
same
day,
unless
New
Year
falls
on
a
Sunday.
M:
Then,
anything
fun?
W:
It
includes
flower-covered
floats.
There
are
also
marching
bands.
It’s
really
cool!

M:
How
was
your
interview,
Emily?
W:
It
was
pretty
good.
Two
weeks
ago,
I
had
my
phone
interview
with
Teach
for
America,
and
then
this
weekend,
I
had
the
in-person
interview.
M:
How
was
the
in-person
interview?
I
heard
it’s
really
stressful.
W:
It
was.
It
lasted
all
day.
When
we
started
we
were
in
a
group
of
ten
people
or
so.
We
each
had
prepared
a
five-minute
lesson,
then
we
had
to
discuss
a
problem
in
a
group
and
reach
a
solution,
and
finally
we
interviewed
one-on-one.
It
was
really
a
long
day.
M:
Yeah,
I
can
imagine!
When
do
you
hear
back?
W:
They
said
three
to
four
weeks,
so
it’s
worth
waiting.
Have
you
started
looking
for
jobs
yet?
Can
you
believe
graduation
is
only
a
few
months
away?
M:
I’ve
thought
about
it,
but
I
get
so
anxious
when
I
think
about
the
future
that
I’ve
stopped
right
now.
I’m
just
going
to
focus
on
my
studies
for
a
bit
longer.
Once
mid-term
exams
are
over,
I
think
I
will
start
again.

Welcome
to
On
the
Town
from
BBC,
I’m
Neil.
This
is
the
program
where
we
visit
some
of
the
most
interesting
places
in
London.
Today
we’re
at
the
British
Museum.
Firstly,
I’d
like
to
brief
you
on
the
history
of
this
world-famous
museum.
It
was
founded
by
King
George
II
in
1753
to
house
the
collection
left
by
Sir
Hans
Sloane.
It
contains
collections
throughout
time,
across
the
globe.
You
can
see
Egyptian
mummies,
ancient
Greek
statues
and
even
Terracotta
Warriors
borrowed
from
Xi’an
Museum
under
one
roof.
Financed
by
the
UK
government,
it
is
free
to
visit
the
permanent
collection.
You’ll
need
tickets
to
visit
some
rooms,
though.
As
for
recommendation,
you
can
visit
the
great
Reading
Room,
round
in
shape
in
the
center
of
the
museum.
You
might
also
see
the
Lewis
Chessmen.
It
is
a
large
group
of
chess
pieces
carved
from
whale
bone.
See
the
chess
set
in
Room
40.
And
you
can
see
the
huge
head
of
Egyptian
pharaoh
in
Room
4
as
well
as
the
Easter
Island
Statue
in
Room
24.

you

Hope
you
enjoyed
this
program
and
see
you
next
time.
