Good morning everyone. I’m very happy and excited to present my lesson here. The lesson I am going to describe is Unit 7 I’m outgoing than my sister! Section A (1a—2c), the first period. I’ll introduce the lesson from four parts.
Part one: Analysis of the Teaching Material
1. The status and function of this unit
The main topic of Unit 7 is personal traits. The key content of this unit is about comparative degree. This lesson is the first period of the unit. In this period, teachers help students master how to describe the objects and compare with two objects. All the activities are carried out around the topic of comparative degree. This period is the lead-in part of unit 7 in book one. So if the students can learn it well, it will be helpful for them to learn the rest of it.
2. Teaching aims
1) about knowledge
Firstly, students should master the vocabulary of personal traits, such as outgoing hardworking fantastic talented loudly quietly clearly. Secondly students should also master the rule of comparative degree.
2) about skills
Students are able to use the new words and sentence patterns to compare people.
3) about affection
Students are able to develop their logical expressive competence and active thinking, and understand the what are a good friend like?
3. Teaching difficult and important points
Firstly, to make them master the vocabulary of personal traits and use these words to describe people. Secondly, students are able to compare people with comparative degree.
4. Teaching aids
Computer, a tape recorder, pictures
Part Two: Teaching methods
I am going to use heuristic method and task—based teaching method. These methods are very helpful for improving students’ integrative ability of using language.
Part Three: Teaching procedures
I want to describe it from four steps.
Step1. Lead—in
First, I will ask them to think out some word to describe people, and let them say these words. Then I will let them turn to page 114 to learn new words to describe people. After read new words I will begin the new lesson, writing the title on the Blackboard.
Step2. Presentation
I will show them some pictures. The pictures are the three group of twins’ photo. I will ask students to describe each person, and help students answer“Tara has long curly hair.”“Tina is thin and tall.”“Tara is short.”“Tina has long straight hair.”After that, we will do 1a. Match each word with its opposite, such as tall—short thin—heavy. Then I ask them“How to compare with each other? ” They don’t know how to compare objects. And I will teach them comparative degree. First I will teach them the rule of comparative object change. I will let them look at the computer, on the screen there are some words and their comparative forms. The first group are tall taller short shorter and small smaller. The second group are nice nicer large larger. The third group are big bigger thin thinner and fat fatter. The forth group are happy happier easy easier. The fifth group are outgoing more outing interesting more interesting. I will give students time to look the words and think the rule of comparative degree. After 5 mins I will ask them to summary the rules and help them answer“Add the –er after the words.”“When the words end with the letter e, we will add the –r after the words.”“When the words with the stressed syllable in the end, we will write this letter two times then add –er.”“When the word with the consonant and the y in the end, we will change y to i+er.”“When the words are more than two syllables we will add more before the words.” After that I will tell them the irregular change, such as good-better bad-worse.
After learn the rules I will let students compare the twins with the sentences like “I am taller than you.” They will say many sentences like “Tara is thinner than Tina.” “Tina is more outgoing than Tara.”
Step3 Practice
I will let students word in pairs, give them times to make a conversation compare with each other. After 2minutes I will ask them to speak the conversation.S1: I am fatter than you. S2: I study more hardworking than you.
After practicing, students will grasp comparative degree well. I will carry out the moral education. Learn others good aspect is to improve yourself. Everyone should know the shortcomings than others.
Step 4. Homework.
Homework is to write a article compare you and your best friend with the comparative degree. For example, my best friend is more beautiful than me. I play guitar better than he.
Homework can review what they learned in the class and also can improve their writing ability. Then I’ll end our lesson.
Part four: Reflection.
The teaching aims of this lesson have been finished. I use two methods to help students get the knowledge well. This is my presentation. Thank you for listening.
