You
have
just
won
five
million
yuan
in
a
lottery(彩票)--how
would
you
spend
it?Before
you
know
it,ten
minutes
had
gone
on
daydreaming.There
is
a
time
and
a
place
for
daydreaming,but
we
don't
have
much
control
over
that.Isn't
it
worrying
that
an
estimated
30
to
50
percent
of
our
waking
time
is
spent
daydreaming?What
if
your
dentist
is
having
that
lottery
daydream
while
removing
your
rotten
tooth?
Some
studies
suggest
daydreaming
makes
us
unhappy
because
we
are
not
concentrating
on
what
is
around
us
but
are
instead
thinking
about
the
past
or
future.However,a
recent
study
published
in
the
journal
Neuropsychologica
finds
that
mind-wandering
can
be
of
benefit
to
us.The
researchers
measured
the
brain
patterns
of
more
than
100
people
using
an
MRI(核磁共振成像)scanner.This
data
was
compared
with
tests
on
creative
ability
and
a
questionnaire
on
how
much
their
minds
usually
wandered.Those
whose
minds
wandered
the
most
scored
higher
in
creative
ability
tests
and
had
more
efficient
brain
systems
measured
in
the
MRI
machine.
Being
efficient
at
mind-wandering
means
you
can
zone
out
and
then
naturally
tune
back
in
without
missing
any
important
point
or
step.Christine
Godwin,the
lead
author
of
the
latest
study
from
the
Georgia
Institute
of
Technology,says
that
if
you
are
concentrating
on
difficult
tasks,your
performance
will
drop
if
your
mind
wanders.“But
when
tasks
are
easy,people
who
have
high
cognitive
ability
can
let
their
minds
wander
because
it
does
not
affect
their
performance.You
may
be
thinking
about
upcoming
goals
or
problem-solving.These
are
some
of
the
positive
sides
to
mind-wandering.”
Mind-wandering
can
vary
between
being
more
practical
or
more
emotional.What
mind-wandering
seems
to
be
best
at,researchers
say,is
coming
up
with
new
solutions
to
old
problems.So,it's
not
always
a
waste
of
time!

If
you
are
in
a
dilemma
about
being
self-taught
or
getting
formal
education,you
have
come
to
the
right
webpage.In
this
article,we
note
the
advantages
of
each
of
these
to
help
you
decide
which
one
would
be
the
best
for
you.
Perhaps
the
biggest
advantage
of
being
self-taught
is
that
you
are
able
to
save
a
lot
of
money.With
each
passing
year,the
cost
of
getting
a
degree
is
on
the
rise.As
a
result,many
students
these
days
tend
to
graduate
from
college
with
a
significant
amount
of
debt.This
makes
it
necessary
for
them
to
get
a
job
as
soon
as
possible,
otherwise
a
number
of
serious
issues
may
arise.Besides,it
is
possible
to
learn
faster
on
your
own,by
concentrating
on
only
those
areas
that
you
are
interested
in.Finally,learning
on
your
own
can
be
a
great
confidence
builder.You
have
to
struggle
to
gain
knowledge
but
once
you
clear
the
basics
on
your
own,you
will
find
yourself
being
much
more
confident
about
your
abilities.
One
of
the
biggest
advantages
of
formal
education
is
that
you
get
a
degree
which
is
a
mark
of
recognition
that
you
have
achieved
a
level
of
knowledge
in
that
particular
field.Many
companies
tend
to
prefer
candidates
who
have
a
college
degree.What's
more,though
formal
education
lacks
the
convenience
and
flexibility
of
self-education,it
offers
you
much
more
in
terms
of
the
actual
structure
of
the
learning
process.Last,being
formally
educated
means
that
you
will
enter
a
college
or
other
similar
educational
institutions.There
you
will
get
the
benefit
of
being
taught
and
guided
by
learned
teachers
and
other
subject
experts.This
will
be
a
big
benefit
as
you
will
be
able
to
take
advantage
of
their
experience
and
gain
in-depth
knowledge
about
the
subject.
Thus,both
formal
education
and
self-education
have
their
own
sets
of
advantages.The
choice
between
the
two
comes
down
to
individual
preferences
as
well
as
personal
situations.
32.Which
of
the
following
is
an
advantage
of
self-education?
A.A
faster
pace
of
learning
B.Being
guided
by
subject
experts
C.A
wider
range
of
ways
to
gain
knowledge
D.Having
more
chances
of
getting
part-time
jobs.
33.To
get
the
benefit
of
being
taught
by
learned
experts,you
should
.
A.choose
self-education
B.enter
an
educational
institution
C.work
for
learned
teachers
D.make
use
of
web
pages
about
education
34.What
is
the
most
important
factor
in
choosing
the
way
of
education?
A.The
reputation
of
educational
institutions.
B.The
knowledge
of
teachers
and
experts.
C.The
opinions
of
relatives
and
friends.
D.One's
preference
and
situations
35.What's
the
author's
purpose
of
writing
this
text?
A.To
promote
a
webpage
about
education.
B.To
prove
that
self-education
is
the
best
choice.
C.To
help
readers
choose
between
two
forms
of
education.
D.To

that

to

on

trousers.Although
the
family
often
46
about
that,Charlie
refused
to
buy
a
larger
T-shirt
or
to
lose
weight.So
when
Charlie
47
for
our
game
not
only
with
the
bottom
of
his
shirt
gathered
inside
his
trousers
but
also
with
a
stomach
you
could
hardly
48
,I
was
so
surprised
that
I
was
49
.My
cousin
must
have
made
an
effort
to
get
himself
into
shape.As
a
result,at
the
point
in
our
game
when
I
predicted
the
score
to
be
about
21
to
5
in
my
favor,it
was
50
7
to
9-and
Charlie
was
51
.Suddenly,Charlie
slipped
and
fell.I
thought
he
would
lose
his
temper
as
he
used
to,but
he
52
his
tears
and
kept
playing!To
make
matters
worse,it
seemed
that
he
could
53
my
mind
and
predict
what
I
would
do
next.Little
by
little,
my
patience
54
.
I
was
about
to
give
up
when
suddenly
there
was
a
55
failure,which
gave
me
time
to
calm
down.When
everything
was
back
to
normal,we
56
to
play
like
two
mad
men.When
the
score
was
18-18,I
finally
57
my
confidence.In
the
end,I
survived
in
the
game,but
it
was
only
a
58
victory.After
the
game,both
of
us
were
lying
flat
on
our
backs,too
tired
to
59.In
a
way,
I
think
we
both
won:I
the
game,but
cousin
Charlie
my

第二节(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Human
potential(潜能)
is
unlimited.Unlike
computers,you
will
never
come
across
a
situation
61
your
brain
says
the
hard
drive
is
full.You
can
constantly
push
your
limits,
62
(reach)greater
heights.
63
(fortunate),many
people
do
not
make
good
use
of
their
true
potential
and
let
it
go
to
waste
by
engaging
in
tasks
that
are
a
poor
use
of
their
time
and
energy.Here
64
(be)
two
reasons
for
this
situation
Blame
the
past
instead
of
focusing
65
the
present.
Some
people
spend
their
lives
living
in
the
past.They
regret
what
they
could
have
done.
66
,the
past
is
the
past,and
no
matter
how
much
time
we
spend
thinking
about
it,it
won't
change.
Set
small
goals.Many
people
set
small
goals
because
they're
afraid
of
67
(fail).Actually
68
they're
afraid
of
is
to
realize
that
they've
always
had
the
power
to
achieve
everything
they
want
and
that
they
have
wasted
their
own
time
and
many
69
(dream).Stop
setting
small
goals
and
set
your
highest
goals
today.You
owe
it
all
to
70
(you).

station.
W:Yes.But
you
can
go
by
bus
or
by
taxi.
It'll
probably
take
you
the
same
time.
M:Then
a
bus
will
be
much
cheaper.
(Text2)
W:How
is
your
new
job?
M:I
love
it.I
start
work
at
7:
30
a.m.
and
I
work
until
3:
30
p.m.
w:I
work
the
same
hours.
But
I
work
at
night.
I
start
at
7:
30
p.m.
and
finish
at
3:30a.m.
(Text3)
W:Hi,Mike.This
is
Sally
Harris.
The
part
you
have
been
waiting
for
is
in.
Should
I
send
someone
over
today
to
repair
your
heating
system?
M:Certainly.We've
been
freezing
here
without
using
the
heating
system.
(Text4)
W:Isaw
a
great
movie
online
last
night.
I
want
to
watch
it
again.
M:
You
can
watch
that
movie
on
DVD
at
home.
And
I
can
watch
it
with
you.
W:Let's
go
to
a
store
and
get
one.
M:OK.Let's
go.
(Text5)
w:Do
you
usually
stay
at
home
alone
on
the
weekend?
M:No,Idon't
like
to
stay
at
home
alone.
I
often
throw
parties
at
my
apartment.
And
my
friends
bring
in
food.
(Text6)
M:Look,the
new
planting
means
it'll
take
five
minutes
more
to
walk
between
my
first
and
second
class.I
need
shoes
which
are
more
comfortable.
W:Yeah,me
too
M:What
ifI
bring
my
bike?
That'll
make
it
easier
to
go
from
one
side
to
the
other.
W:Hey,that's
a
cool
idea.
Maybe
you
could
give
me
a
ride,
if
it's
not
too
much
trouble.
M:
Sure,
why
not?We
have
the
same
classes.
W:Thanks.
(Text7)
W:What's
wrong
with
you,
Tom?
You
don't
look
well.
M:I've
been
trying
to
get
a
job
but
I
can't
find
anything.
W:Maybe
you're
not
trying
in
the
right
place.
What
kind
of
job
are
you
looking
for?
M:Well,Iwant
to
work
in
an
office

I
have
sent
application
forms
to
five
different
places,
but
they
haven't
answered
me
yet.I'm
afraid
they
won't
give
me
any
call.
W:Maybe
they'd
prefer
you
to
come
to
see
them
in
person.
M:
Do
you
think
so?
How
do
I
do
that?
w:You
could
telephone
them
and
ask
for
an
appointment.
However,
it
sounds
rude
to
visit
the
places
and
ask
for
the
employment
officer
directly.

M:Do
you
have
any
idea
of
where
Samuel
is
now?
It's
already

30.
This
is
the
third
time
this
week
he's
not
on
time.Didn't
I
make
it
clear
that
all
waiters
and
waitresses
must
be
at
work
by
10,
an
hour
before
the
dining
room
opens?
W:You
did,Chris.I
understand
why
you
are
so
angry
but
Samuel
works
in
the
early
mornings,
too,cleaning
windows
until9.I
think
that's
why
he's
been
late
so
many
times.
M:Then
he
should
have
mentioned
that
earlier.
I
can
understand
that.
Why
didn't
he
tell
me?
And
if
he
feels
tired,
he
can
also
ask
for
leave.
w:Wait
a
minute.Today's
Friday,
righr?Wasn't
Samuel
supposed
to
take
this
Friday
off?
M:Oh,yes.That
explains
his
absence.
(Text9)
W:Hi,Don.Did
you
watch
the
Olympic
Games
last
night?
M:Yeah.Those
people
are
really
in
good
condition.
Did
you
notice
that?
W:I
understand
they
train
every
day
for
a
long
time
before
the
Games.
M:
They
have
to
in
order
to
be
in
good
shape
W:
I
try
to
exercise
a
lot
but
I'm
not
as
good

M:What
kind
of
sport
do
you
like?
W:Ilike
to
play
tennis
and
badminton,
but
what
I
like
best
is
running
and
I'm
going
to
be
on
the
women's
team
next
year.
M:Hey,that's
cool!
I
like
playing
soccer
and
I'm
going
to
try
for
the
soccer
team.
W:I
watched
you
practice
the
other
day.
I
think
you're
good.
M:Aw,I'm
not
that
good.
w:I'm
going
to
practice
now.
Want
to
watch?
Maybe
you
could
give
me
some
advice.
M:Sure,glad
to.

M:Hello,Mr.Wood.I'm
Sam
from
Highbrook
Library.
I'm
calling
to
offer
my
sincere
thanks
for
your
generous
gifts.The
three
computers
you
donated
from
your
store
have
helped
us
to
better
serve
our
users.
We
now
have
five
computers
and
they
are
almost
always
in
use.
And
we
have
decided
to
allow
library
members
to
use
a
computer
for
free
for
two
hours.Non-members
pay
$2
for
one
hour
of
use,which
is
cheap.
In
addition,
your
donation
has
allowed
us
to
lengthen
our
hours.
The
library
is
now
open
until8:00
p.m.Monday
to
Thursday.This
has
led
to
a
growth
in
membership.
More
people
can
come
when
their
workday
is
over.
We
have
even
had
several
book
clubs
that
meet
in
the
evenings.
Perhaps
you
would
like
to
join
one.
We
are
thinking
of
adding
a
small
cafe
on
the
first
floor
near
the
meeting
room
next
year.
We
hope
you
will
consider
contributing
to
this
project
as
well.
You
will
receive
more
information
in
the
future
about
it.Thanks
again
for
your
support
for
the
Highbrook
Library.Goodbye.
