Teaching steps
Step 1Lead –in
Before students read the text ,ask them if they know anything about Lance Armstrong. Encourage them to exchange their information about Lance Armstrong .
Then have some students to show their answers to class.
Step 2 ,Reading .
Tell them to read the article anout Lance Armstrong .try to find the answer of the following questions :
,What have been his two major achivements
What happened to him in 1996
What spirit do you think made him a superstar
After the reading ,check the answers .
Step 3 ,Discussion .
Have one of them read out the instructions of Ex2
1 How do you think Armstrong must have felt at these times:
A before he went to the doctor
B when he recived the diagnosis
C during the chemotherapy
D when he was training for the Tour de France
F when he won the Tour de France for thr first time
Then have them work in pairs or groups ,discussing how Armstrong felt an the different time s in his life .Go around and help with vocabulary if necessary .
Encourage the students to exchange the ideas as a class.Check the answers.
Step 4 ,Practice
Ask the students to do Ex3
Read out the instruction and check that students understand the meaning of obligation ,spculation prohibition .
Students work individually,finding sentences with must in the text and deciding on the functions of must .
Students compare answers in pairs before checking answers as a class..
Then do Ex5.ask the students to do individually ,firsy ,then compare the answers in pairs before checking the answers.
Step5 ,Homework
