Persuasive Writing
When you convince someone, you get him or her to believe or act a certain way.
Convince a partner to read your favorite book.
An opinion is what you think or believe about something.
What’s your opinion on school rules?
The best way to persuade or convince people to do something is to give them good reasons why they should do it.
The persuasive reasons they choose are dependent on their audience.
“I made my bed, so may I call Mary now?”
“It’s a beautiful day. Let’s have a picnic in the park!”
whenever you write, you are writing to someone:
Audience
yourselves
teachers
friends
parents…
A persuasive writing tells the writer’s opinion about a topic and gives reasons that support that opinion.
Did you try to persuade your parents, teachers or friends to do something?
Could you tell us the kinds of reasons you used?

Who Gets to Talk?
I think our class needs a card that says “Talk” .Right now, kids are interrupting class discussions. They forget to raise their hands and take turns. If Mrs. Yang had a talk card, she could give it to one person at a time. Then only that person could talk. Everyone else would have to listen. A Talk card would help make our class discussions more enjoyable.
