Teahouse is one of Lao She’s most famous plays. He wrote it in 1957. The play has three acts and shows the lives of common people in China from the end of the nineteenth century to the middle of the twentieth century. It tells us the story of Wang Lifa and the customers of his teahouse in Beijing. It describes the changes in Chinese society over fifty years.

Lao She was born in Beijing in 1899. His mother sent him to a teacher’s school in 1913. After finishing school in 1918, he became a head teacher of a primary school. In 1924, Lao She left home and went to England. He taught Chinese at a college in London and returned to China five years later. He wrote many plays, novels and short stories about people’s lives, and was named “the People’s Artist”. Lao She is one of the greatest Chinese writers of the twentieth century.

At Lao She Teahouse today, customers can drink tea and eat delicious Beijing food. If you like the Beijing Opera, traditional music or magic shows, you can enjoy them at the teahouse. Lao She Teahouse gives a warm welcome to everyone from all over the world.

One cold day, Mariko and her dad were walking to the store.
“I’m tired of winter,” said Mariko.
Dad waved at their neighbor. “I bet Mr. Hill wishes spring would come too.” Mariko looked up to see Mr. Hill in his window. He waved, and she waved back.
“Mr. Hill loves his garden,” said Mariko. Mr. Hill had the prettiest spring flower garden. It was full of tulips and daffodils(水仙花).

At the store, Mariko helped Dad choose milk, bread, and carrots.

She pulled on dad’s sleeve(衣袖). “Oh, Dad, look, daffodils!”
Dad smiled. “Is that the treat you want?”
Mariko nodded.
Mariko couldn’t stop looking at her daffodils all the way home. But when she got to Mr. Hill’s house, she stopped. She looked up at the window.
“Wait here, Dad, please,” she said. “I’ll be right back.”
Mariko rang the doorbell.
When Mr. Hill came to the door, Mariko held out the daffodils.
Mr. Hill’s face lit up like the sun. “What a wonderful winter surprise!” he cried. “You have brought me spring!”

World Book Day falls on April 23 every year. It was set up by the UNESCO in 1995 to encourage people, especially teenagers,to discover the pleasure of reading. It is also the day to honor great writers, for example, William Shakespeare,born or dead on that day.
Many countries celebrate World Book Day. Take UK as an example. On that day, millions of school children can buy books of special price, a much lower price than usual, in any bookstore. It has been done every year since 1998.
World Book Day is also celebrated in China. Wen Jiabao, Premier of China, does lots of reading every day. On World Book Day 2009, he called on people to do more reading. Wen suggested that young people should spend more time reading. "Books can not change the world,but people can change the world by changing themselves through reading, " he said.
Why do people like reading? One big advantage is that reading helps us become more knowledgeable and more intelligent. Also, reading helps us to follow the latest developments of science and technology. Besides, reading gives us information about other cultures and places of the world. When we read, we may find many things that are unfamiliar to us. We would have to use our brain to think about them or do more reading to find out the answers. The more we read,the more we know. What’s more, reading is also one of the most important ways to learn a foreign language like English
“Reading makes a full man.” Books,magazines,newspapers and other kinds of reading materials can help us to know more about the outside world and perfect us. So it is necessary for us to spend time on reading every day.
