Teaching procedure
Warm up
(1)Begin the class with students saying the rhyme loudly, encouraging them to clap to keep the rhythm.
(2)Play a game. Use the structure “Hello, I’m…” Play a tape of some lively music.Explain that when the music is playing, they must keep moving, but when the music stops they must “freeze” and shake hand and introduce themselves.
(3)Start the music and have children practice the dialog with a partner. Pause the music and have children “freeze”, then start the music again and have them change partners. Continue until each child has greeted and introduced him / herself to at least five other children.
Review with poster
Review the vocabulary and structures for this unit with the poster.
Listen and say
(1)Have children open their books and look at the pictures. Point to each drawing and ask, “Who’s this?” Say the name and have children repeat “Tina, Ben, Lisa, Ted, Tim.”
(2)Direct children’s attention to the sentence to be read.Explain that they are going to listen to the tape and then repeat what each character is saying.
(3)Have the children read the words and each sentence. Point to each drawing and elicit the completed sentence in a choral drill.
(4)Point to the final space and explain that the children are going to draw pictures of themselves. Have them draw their picture and trace the words, “ Hi, I’m...”
(5)Have them write their names in the space provided to complete the sentence.
(6)Check the exercise by having children share their drawings.
Find and color
(1)Have children read the words.
(2)Ask children describe the picture.
(3)Give children some time to look for the objects and color them.
Extension
Play “run to the corner”.
