A
On
Friday
afternoon,
our
teacher,
Miss
Alexander
asked
each
of
us
what
special
plans,
if
any
we
had
for
the
weekend.
Mary
was
going
to
the
mall;
Billy
had
a
championship
ball
game;
Todd
was
going
to
his
swimming
lesson,
and
I
was
going
to
my
first
circus.
Miss
Alexander
thought
it
was
a
great
plan.
It
was
finally
Saturday,
and
off
we
went
to
the
circus.
We
found
our
seats
and
watched
three
huge
elephants
walk
through
some
big
hoops(圈).
Next,
the
clowns
came
out
on
unicycles
and
rode
all
around
the
circus
tent.
Some
were
blowing
loud
funny
horns,
while
others
did
tricks
on
their
unicycles.
The
best
part
was
when
the
trapeze
artists
walked
high
above
us
on
a
very
thin
and
tiny
wire.
People
held
their
breath
as
they
watched
the
trapeze
artists
balance
themselves.
They
didn’t
even
look
scared.
Dad
got
some
cotton
candy
and
peanuts
for
me
and
my
little
sister,
Marie.
Out
came
some
beautiful
grey
horses
with
riders
that
were
doing
some
tricks,
including
riding
sideways
on
the
horses.
“Wow!”
said
Marie.
“I
sure
wish
I
could
ride
like
that!”
We
took
many
pictures,
even
some
with
the
funny
clowns.
Finally,
it
was
time
to
go
home,
but
I
will
never
forget
the
most
fantastic
time,
my
first
circus!
I
can’t
wait
to
share
the
best
weekend
ever
with
everyone
back
at
school
on
Monday.
I
will
bring
the
pictures
to
show
Miss
Alexander
and
the
rest
of
the
class.
They
will
feel
like
they
went
to
the
circus
too!
What
was
Todd
planning
to
do
for
the
weekend?
He
was
having
a
party.
B.
He
was
having
a
swimming
lesson.
C.
He
was
going
to
the
movies.
D.
He
was
going
to
the
circus
show.
What
circus
act
was
first?
The
trapeze
artists.
B.
The
clowns.
C.
The
elephants.
D.
Gray
horses.
What

D.
Cotton
candy
and
peanuts.
What

the
clowns
ride
at
the
circus?
Horses.
B.
Unicycles.
C.
Brooms.
D.
Ropes.
What
word
could
best
describe
the
children
in
the
story?
A.
Sad.
B.
Worried.
C.
Lonely.
D.
Excited.
B
Big
things
are
big
trouble.
Huge
monsters
cause
chaos
and
destruction
wherever
they
go.
Godzilla
is
Japan’s
favourite
monster.
He
first
appeared
on
Japanese
movie
screens
in
1954
and
he’s
still
there
today.
Godzilla
slept
on
the
bottom
of
the
sea
until
an
atomic
bomb(原子弹)
forced
him
up
to
the
surface.
He
looks
like
a
giant
Tyrannosaurus
rex
(霸王龙)
and
has
a
bad
temper.
He
is
angry
because
he
thinks
people
are
destroying
the
world.
Every
country
has
its
own
stories,
or
myths
about
monsters.
Monsters
were
a
good
way
to
explain
the
unknown.
If
people
didn’t
know
what
caused
an
earthquake,
for
example,
they
could
say
a
monster
did
it.
When
Native
Americans
first
dug
up
dinosaur
bones,
they
thought
they
were
the
bones
of
giant
lizard
that
lived
deep
in
the
earth.
When
these
giants
shivered(打哆嗦),
the
whole
earth
quaked!
Many
myths
tell
of
monsters
with
terrible
powers.
Medusa
was
scary.
She
had
snakes
instead
of
hair.
Anyone
who
looked
at
her
was
turned
into
stone.
But
the
hero
Perseus
was
able
to
defeat
her
by
looking
at
her
reflection
in
a
mirror.
Every
monster
has
a
weak
spot.
The
secret
is
to
find
out
where,
or
what
it
is.
6.
What
is
Japan’s
favourite
monster?
A.
Atomic
bomb
monsters.
B.
Tyrannosaurus
rex.
C.
Godzilla.
D.
Medusa.
7.

does
the
second
paragraph
mainly
tell
us?
Every
country
has
its
own
stories
and
myths
about
monsters.
B.
Monsters
are
a
good
way
to
explain
the
unknown.
C.
When
the
giant
dinosaur
shivers,
the
earth
quakes.
D.
Native
Americans
thought
dinosaurs
as
giant
lizards.
8.
Which
of
the
following
about
Medusa
is
NOT
TRUE?
A.
She
wore
snakes
instead
of
hair.
B.
She
could
turn
anything
into
stone.
C.
She
seemed
to
be
very
scary.
D.
She
beat
Perseus
with
a
mirror.
9.
Why
Medusa
is
mentioned
in
the
third
paragraph?
A.
To
show
that
she
is
a
huge
and
terrible
monster.
B.
To
show
she
has
terrible
powers
and
weakness.
C.

describe
monsters?
A.
They
are
true
in
daily
life.
B.
They
are
huge
and
terrible.
C.
They
have
weakness
and

The
film
Alice
Through
the

Millions
of
people

to
cinemas
to

it.
The

in
people's
mind
again
after
the
film
Alice

These
two
popular
films
were
adapted
from
Lewis
Carroll’s
novels,
a
famous
English
writer,
who
himself
was
as
interesting
as
his
books.
Lewis
Carroll
was
a
math
teacher
and
talented
writer.
In
1856,
he
met
Henry
Liddell
and
his
three
lovely
daughters.
His
friendship
with
the
family
became
an
important
part
of
his
life
over
the
following
years.
He
liked
the
girls
very
much,
especially
the
youngest
one,
Alice
Liddell.
He
often
told
stories
to
make
them
happy.
One
day
he
took
the
girls
to
a
boat
trip.
To
make
the
time
more
enjoyable,
he
began
a
story
about
the
adventure
of
a
little
girl
named
Alice
in
Wonderland.
Many
other
strange
characters
such
as
the
Mouse,
the
March
Hare,
the
Cheshire
Cat
and
the
Queen
of
Hearts
were
brought
to
this
wonderful
world
too.
Alice
Liddell
loved
the
story
and
she
begged
Carroll
to
write
it
down
for
her.
After
Carroll
finished
the
manuscript
of
the
story
Alice's
Adventures
in
Wonderland,
he
gave
it
to
the
girl
as
a
Christmas

When
the
book
came

in
1865,
it
was
a
big

and
soon
was
famous
around

Fiction
is
the
name
we
use
for
stories
that
are
make-believe,
such
as
Harry
Potter
or
Alice
in
the
Wonderland.
16
It
can
be
so
close
to
the
truth
that
it
seems
as
real
as
something
that
happened
to
you
this
morning.
Or,
fiction
can
be
as
fantastic
as
the
most
unbelievable
fairy
tale.
Not
everything
in
a
fictional
story
has
to
be
made
up.
17
You,
of
course,
are
real,
and
the
moon
is
real,
and
many
of
the
things
that
you
could
describe,
such
as
the
stars,
the
wind,
and
the
pull
of
gravity,
would
be
real.
18
It
would
be
a
trip
you
took
in
your
imagination.
Nonfiction,
on
the
other
hand,
is
all
about
true
things.
19
Someone’s
biography
is
nonfiction;
so
is
your
autobiography.
So
are
articles
in
your
local
newspaper,
and
school
reports
on
science.
20
Imagine
writing
history
about
the
1989
San
Francisco
earthquake,
or
a
report
about
a
high
school
sports
team.
An
old
proverb
says,
“Truth
is
stranger
than
fiction.”
Do
you
think
that’s
true?
A.
Nothing
is
made
up.B.
History
is
nonfiction,
too.C.
But
your
trip
through
space
would
be
fiction.D.
You
could
write
a
story
in
which
you
fly
to
the
moon.E.
But
fiction
isn’t
always
different
from
the
way
things
usually
are.

When
you
plant
a
seed,
does
it
stay
a
seed
forever?
No!
Plants
and
animals
grow
and
change
throughout
their
lives.
Many
plants
begin
as
seeds(种子).
As
the
seed
gets
what
it
needs
(water,
sunlight,
and
nutrients
from
the
soil),
it
begins
to
grow.
The
seed
turns
into
a
little
sprout(幼芽).
3It
keeps
growing
until
it
is
a
full-grown
plant.
Then
the
plant
makes
new
seeds,
so
that
new
plants
can
grow
even
after
the
plant
grows
old
and
dies.
Those
seeds
will
then
go
through
their
growth
process.
Because
seeds
go
through
this
process
over
and
over
again,
it
is
called
a
life
cycle.
Animals
also
have
life
cycles.
A
frog
begins
as
an
egg.
When
the
egg
hatches,
it
turns
into
a
tadpole.
The
tadpoles
grow
legs
and
arms,
and
finally
grow
into
adult
frogs.
The
adult
frogs
lay
eggs,
so
that
new
frogs
can
live
even
after
the
frog
grows
old
and
dies.
4A
dog’s
life
cycle
is
a
little
different
than
a
frog’s,
because
a
dog
does
not
start
out
as
an
egg.
It
is
born
from
its
mother’s
belly.
The
puppy
keeps
growing
and
at
last
is
an
adult
dog.
Then
the
adult
dog
might
have
puppies
to
continue
the
life
cycle!
Insects
like
caterpillars
go
through
life
cycles,
too.
Caterpillars
begin
as
eggs.
When
they
hatch(孵化),
they
are
larva.
The
caterpillar
becomes
a
pupa,
and
inside
of
the
pupa
it
turns
into
an
adult.
The
adult
is
not
a
caterpillar;
it
is
a
butterfly!
Then
the
butterfly
lays
eggs,
so
that
new
caterpillars
and
butterflies
can
live
even
after
the
butterfly
grows
old
and
dies.
Plants
and
animals
don’t
stay
the
same
throughout
their
lives.
They
grow
and
change
through
their
life
cycle.

Life
Cycle
六、The
answer
may
vary:
Once
upon
a
time,
there
was
an
old
man
named
Yu
Gong.
He
lived
behind
two
big
mountains
Wangwu
and
Taihang.
It
took
a
long
time
to
get
to
the
other
side.
Yu
Gong
decided
to
move
them
away.
He
asked
his
children
to
help.
The
next
day,
they
began
and
carried
the
stones
and
the
earth
from
the
mountains
to
the
Bohai
Sea.
One
day,
a
man
called
Zhi
Sou
saw
them
and
asked
Yu
Gong,
“You
are
small
and
old
while
the
mountains
are
big.
You
can’t
make
it.”Yu
Gong
said,
“I’m
not
alone.
I
have
children,
grandchildren,
and
great
grandchildren.
My
family
will
grow,
but
the
mountains
can’t
grow.
When
I
die,
they
will
continue.
If
we
keep
working,
we’ll
make
it.”
Finally,
the
god
Yuhuang
was
so
moved
by
Yu
Gong
that
he
sent
two
gods
to
take
away
the
mountains.
The
story
tells
us
that
we
can
never
know
what’s
possible
unless
we
try
to
make
it
happen.
