Teaching schedule
Step 1: Warming up
1.Listen to a piece of music from Animal World.
2. Have a brainstorm: T: Do you like animals?
Do you go to the zoo at weekend?
What animals do you often see in the zoo?
S: Say the animals they know
设计意图: 通过一首动物世界的主题曲,谈论自己喜欢的动物,引入今天的话题,激发学生对本课学习的兴趣,了解学生已有的知识,为新知识的建构做好铺垫。
Step2: Vocabulary learning
1. Show the Ss the pictures of animals and their English expressions.
S: Name the animals freely.
T: Lead the Ss to read when they have difficulty in reading
Memory challenge: Which animal is missing?
T: Show all the pictures to the Ss, and give them 5s to remember. Later try to find out which animal is missing.
设计意图:通过记忆游戏让学生学完新单词后,记忆那只动物不见了,既巩固了新单词,有调动了学生的参与性和主动性,使学习兴奋点持续下去。
Step 3: Looking and learning
1. Show a picture of a panda which is eating bamboo
T: Does the panda come from China?
S: Yes , it does. It comes from Si Chuan, China.
T: Does it eat meat?
S: No, it doesn’t. It eats bamboo.
T: Yes , it eats plants and leaves.
设计意图: 句式练习。通过教师给的相关内容,让学生自己去发现重点的词汇和句型,然后再灵活运用。为下文的真实交际奠定了基础。
Show a group of animals including some rare animals from different countries and have the Ss discuss in pairs.
T: Animals come from different countries and eat different food. Where do they come from and what do they eat?
S: Work in pairs: ask and answer

Step 4 Describe animals
T: Ask 2-3 Ss to choose the card and describe it , others guess what it is.

T: We can find many kinds of animals in the zoo.
Which zoo have you been to?
Have you been to Beijing zoo?
Show a picture of Beijing zoo.
T: Tony and Lingling are visiting the Beijing zoo. Let’s take a trip there following them.
Listen and answer: What’s the name of the panda?
Listen again and read aloud:
S: Ask What questions or yes/no questions about animals according to the conversation.

Step 6: Guessing game
Think of an animal and let others guess through asking questions .
T: Teacher gives an example first.
S: One of the Ss come to the front and think about his favorite animal in his mind. The others ask yes/no questions to guess what his favorite animal is.
Eg: Does it come from…?
Does it eat…?
Does it live in …?
Is it big/small?
Give a report—My favorite animals
Eg: My favorite animal is ….It’s very big/small. It comes from….It eats…..It’s vey cute and friendly. It makes me happy.

Step 7: Beyond
Learning some proverbs about animals.
T: Animals are our friends. There are many sayings about animals, such as:
Love me, love my dog.
When the cat is away, the mice will play.
Beat the dog before the lion.
Every dog has its day.
It rains cats and dogs.
You’re a lucky dog.
the expression of the year of birth
When we say “我出生在哪一年”,in English we often say I was born in the year of ox/ rat/horse/dragon.
T: Which year were you born in?
S: I was born in the year of dragon.
设计意图:从用好教材到走出教材,联系到我们生活中有关动物的常用语及与动物相关的表达法,让学生能够联系实际有所获,将语言应用到实践中。
Step8: Summary
Animals make the world more colorful. They are our friends so we should protect them esp. the rare animals.
