稵ext analysis: When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Culture is one of the most common topics
that appear in English learning. Students can learn about the customs of different countries and areas after learning Module 11. They can also open their eyes, train tolerance towards varied cultures and develop awareness of multi-cultural communication. It is necessary for them to know about the culture of a newly-arrived country. Only when they have a full understanding about the local customs can they get on well with the local people. Unit 2 in Module 11 introduces the traditional English way of life. Wang Hui, the writer, tells his experiences in England, emphasizing the importance of cultural differences.
稴tudents analysis: Students in Grade 8 have already learnt Unit 1 in Module 11. They have it in
mind that people in different countries show different habits and ways of dealing with the same thing. Naturally, they are eager to know more about the traditions and social behavior in other countries.

1. Revision and lead-in (5) Ask Ss questions:
1). After learning Unit 1, we have learnt about customs in China and in the West. Can you tell me some? Maybe the following pictures help you a lot. I will show you an example.

2). Do you want to know any other tradition in the West? Today let抯 look at Unit 2, 揑n England, we usually drink tea with milk. Ss are invited to speak out the customs in China and in the West with the help of the pictures.
Ss read every sentence together.

2. Pre-reading (5) 1).Show pictures relevant to the content of the passage in Unit 2.
2). Ask Ss to fill in the sentences which describe the pictures, with Chinese meaning of the new words given.
Fish and chips (炸鱼加炸薯条) is traditional food in England. 1). Ss look at the pictures and volunteer to speak out the whole sentences according to the Chinese meaning.
2). Ss read every sentence loudly.
3). Ss recognize the word form by its pronunciation and Chinese meaning.
3. Skimming (3) 1). Ask Ss to read the passage quickly and match the headings with the papagraphs.
2). Remind them that they needn抰 read the passage word by word. They focus on the first or the last sentence in each paragraph. Ss go through the passage quickly, get the main idea of each paragraph and match the headings with the paragraphs.
