B
Poet
William
Stafford
once
said
that
we
are
defined
more
by
the
detours
in
life
than
by
the
narrow
road
toward
goals.
I
like
this
image.
But
it
was
quite
by
accident
that
I
discovered
the
deep
meaning
of
his
words.
For
years
we
made
the
long
drive
from
our
home
in
Seattle
to
my
parents’
home
in
Boise
in
nine
hours.
We
traveled
the
way
most
people
do:
the
fastest,
shortest,
easiest
road,
especially
when
I
was
alone
with
four
noisy,
restless
kids
who
hate
confinement
(限制)
and
have
strong
opinions
about
everything.
Road
trips
felt
risky,
so
I
would
drive
fast,
stopping
only
when
I
had
to.
We
would
stick
to
the
freeways
and
arrive
tired.
But
then
Banner,
our
lamb,
was
born.
He
was
rejected
by
his
mama
days
before
our
planned
trip
to
Boise.
I
had
two
choices:
leave
Banner
with
my
husband,
or
take
him
with
me.
My
husband
made
the
decision
for
me.
That
is
how
I
found
myself
on
the
road
with
four
kids,
a
baby
lamb
and
nothing
but
my
everlasting
optimism
to
see
me
through.
We
took
the
country
roads
out
of
necessity.
We
had
to
stop
every
hour,
let
Banner
shake
out
his
legs
and
feed
him.
The
kids
chased
him
and
one
another.
They'd
get
back
in
the
car
breathless
and
energized,
smelling
fresh
from
the
cold
air.
We
explored
side
roads,
catching
grasshoppers
in
waist-high
grass.
Even
if
we
simply
looked
out
of
the
car
windows
at
baby
pigs
following
their
mother,
or
fish
leaping
out
of
the
water,
it
was
better
than
the
best
ride
down
the
freeway.
Here
was
life.
And
new
horizons.
We
eventually
arrived
at
my
parents’
doorstep
astonishingly
fresh
and
full
of
stories.I
grew
brave
with
the
trip
back
home
and
creative
with
my
disciplining
technique.
On
an
empty
section
of
road,
everyone
started
quarreling.
I
stopped
the
car,
ordered
all
kids
out
and
told
them
to
meet
me
up
ahead.
I
parked
my
car
half
a
mile
away
and
read
my
book
in
sweet
silence.
Some
road
trips
are
by
necessity
fast
and
straight.
But
that
trip
with
Banner
opened
our
eyes
to
a
world
available
to
anyone
adventurous
enough
to
wander
around
and
made
me
realize
that
a
detour
may
uncover
the
best
part
of
journey
—
and
the
best
part
of
yourself.

Monaco
doesn’t
spend
her
summers
doing
the
usual
teenage
work,
like
working
at
the
mall.
Instead,she
‘
s
studying.
It
used
to
be
that
a
summer
job
was
considered
a
teenage
thing.
Today,
Monaco
,
who
has
never
had
a
summer
job,
is
part
of
growing
trend
teenagers
focusing
on
their
studies,
even
during
the
summer.
That’s
down
from
72%
of
Americans
aged
16
to
19
who
worked
in
July
of
1978,
according
to
the
U.
S.
Bureau
of
Labor
Statistics.
Fierce
competition,
older
workers
returning
to
the
workforce
and
weak
economic
growth
are
all
adding
to
the
decrease
of
teenagers
in
the
workforce.
But
as
schoolwork
grows
increasingly
heavy
and
homework
eats
up
more
time,
data
suggest
the
biggest
reason
why
some
teens
won’t
be
working
this
summer
is
that
they
simply
don’t
have
time.
For
college
-
bound
teens,
some
teachers
even
advise
students
not
to
waste
time
on
a
summer
job.
“
Some
of
my
students
only
have
about
six
weeks
off
in
the
summer,”
said
Shannon
Reed,
a
lecturer
at
the
University
of
Pittsburgh
and
a
former
high
school
English
teacher.”
I
could
never
advise
that
they
get
jobs
during
that
short
break.
”
Young
people
who
don’t
work
may
miss
out
on
valuable
skills
that
they’11
need
control
and
help
people
learn
to
deal
with
adult
situations.
But
Monaco,
who
plans
to
attend
Harvard,
isn’t
fazed
by
her
lack
of
work
experience.
“Maybe
I
have
missed
out
on
a
couple
of
life
skills,
“she
said.
“
But
I
don’t
think
it
will
harm
me
in
way
.”
28.What
is
the
trend
of
American
teenagers?
A.They
are
becoming
lazy.
B.They
are
fond
of
doing
holiday
jobs.
C.They
are
focusing
more
on
studies
than
on
jobs.
D.They
are
becoming
particular
about
(挑剔)holiday
jobs
29.What
is
the
third
paragraph
mainly
about?
A.The
reasons
for
teenagers
giving
up
work.
B.The
fierce
competition
teenagers
face.
C.The
structure
of
America’s
workforce.
D.The
effects
of
America9
s
weak
economy.
30.What’s
Shannon
Reed’s
attitude
towards
the
new
trend?
A.uncaring.
B.favorable.
C.worried.
D.doubtful.
31.What
does
the
underlined
word
“fazed”
in
the
last
paragraph
mean?
A.supported.
B.helped.
C.upset.
D.confused.
D
Microplastics
are
everywhere
in
our
environment.
It's
hardly
surprising
that
the
tiny
fragments
have
also
been
found
in
humans.
A
new
study
shows
that
Americans
are
consuming
as
many
as
121,000
particles
each
year.
Measuring
50
to
500
microns
in
length,
microplastics
come
from
a
variety
of
sources,
including
large
plastics
that
break
down
into
smaller
and
smaller
pieces.
Therefore,
much
remains
unknown
about
the
common
existence
of
these
materials
within
the
human
body,
as
well
as
their
impact
on
human
health.
Hoping
to
fill
in
some
of
these
gaps,
a
research
team
led
by
Kieran
Cox,
a
PhD
candidate
at
the
University
of
Victoria,
looked
at
26
papers
assessing
the
amount
of
microplastics
in
commonly
consumed
food
items,
among
which
are
seafood,
sugars,
salts,
honey,
alcohol
and
water.
The
team
also
evaluated
the
potential
consumption
of
microplastics
through
inhalation(吸入)using
previously
reported
data
on
microplastic
concentrations
in
the
air
and
the
Environmental
Protection
Agency's
reported
respiration
rates.
Based
on
these
data,
the
researchers
calculated
that
our
annual
consumption
of
microplastics
via
food
and
drink
ranges
from
39,000
to
52,000
particles.
When
microplastics
taken
in
through
inhalation
are
taken
into
account,
the
range
jumps
to
between
74,000
and
121,000
particles
per
year.
The
authors
of
the
study
found
that
people
who
drink
exclusively
from
plastic
water
bottles
absorb
an
additional
90,000
microplastics
each
year,
compared
to
4,000
among
those
who
only
consume
tap
water.
"This
shows
that
small
decisions,
over
the
course
of
a
year,
really
matter
and
have
an
impact."
Cox
says.
The
new
study,
according
to
its
authors,
was
the
first
to
investigate
"the
accumulative
human
exposure"
to
microplastics.
But
in
all
likelihood,
the
research
tells
only
a
small
part
of
the
entire
story.
Collectively,
the
food
and
drink
that
the
researchers
analyzed
represent
15
percent
of
Americans'
caloric
intake.
The
team
could
not
account
for
food
groups
like
fruits,
vegetables
and
grains
because
there
simply
is
not
enough
data
on
their
microplastic
content.
For
those
worried
about
microplastic
consumption,
cutting
down
bottled
water
is
a
good
place
to
start.
But
to
the
heart
of
the
problem,
we
have
to
stop
producing
and
using
so
much
plastic.
32.What
makes
it
difficult
to
know
microplastics
commonly
exist
in
the
human
body?
A.The
quality.
B.The
quantity.
C.The
shape.
D.The
size.
33.How
did
Kieran
Cox's
team
calculate
the
potential
consumption
of
microplastics?
A.By
studying
papers.
B.By
comparing
the
impacts.
C.By
analyzing
the
data.
D.By
conducting
experiments.
34.Which
of
the
following
is
true
according
to
the
text?
A.Drinking
less
plastic
bottled
water
helps
to
take
in
fewer
microplastics.
B.The
study
is
among
the
earliest
to
investigate
human
exposure
to
microplastics.
C.Cox's
team
gained
comprehensive
information
of
microplastics
taken
in
by
humans.
D.People
consume
74,000
to
121,000
particles
of
microplastics
per
year
from
food
and
drink.
35.What
is
the
best

a
break.
In
most
cases,
I
to
2
weeks
is
all
it'll
take.
You
can
do
yoga
or
stretching
during
the
time
off.
When
you
start
exercising
again,
take
it
slow,
and
rest
a
muscle
group
for
at
least
a
day.
37
See
your
doctor
if
resting
for
1
to
2
weeks
doesn't
help.
38
They
can
diagnose
an
injury
and
recommend
a
treatment
plan
for
your
specific
needs.
They
might
also
recommend
you
to
see
a
mental
health
professional.
It
might
also
be
helpful
to
get
help
from
a
personal
trainer
or
physiotherapist.
They
can
help
you
determine
if
you
are
over
training
and
make
a
healthy
exercise
plan
for
you.
39
For
some
people,
the
drugs
can
help
get
rid
of
feelings
of
anxiety
or
obsession
related
to
over-training
and
compulsive(强迫的)exercise.
You
might
need
to
try
different
medicines
and
amounts
before
you
find
the
best
solution.
Side
effects
could
include
nausea,
constipation,
dry
mouth,
mood
changes,
and
weight
gain.
Tell
your
doctor
if
you
experience
these
or
any
other
side
effects.
Talk
to
an
advisor
about
compulsive
exercise
or
an
eating
disorder.
40
An
advisor
can
help
you
make
this
distinction
and,
if
necessary,
identify
why
exercise
has
become
a
compulsion.
A.
Schedule
an
appointment
with
your
primary
doctor.
B.
However,
exercising
too
much
can
cause
significant
health
risks.
C.
When
you
begin
exercising
again,
stick
to
45
minutes
or
less
per
day.
D.
Ask
your
doctor
if
they
need
to
recommend
a
drug
to
treat
depression.
E.
If
you
think
you
might
be
overdoing
it,
stop
exercising
for
1
to
2
weeks.
F.
It
might
be
tough
to
distinguish
between
devotion
to
a
sport
and
compulsive
exercise.
G.
For
instance
if
you
work
out
using
a
bicycle
on
Monday,
exercise
your
upper
body
the
following
day.

英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)
第一节
完形填空(共20小题;满分30分)阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
It
was
a
boiling
Spring
day.
The
temperatures
felt
more
like
July
than
May.
A
thunderstorm
had
passed
over
earlier
but
now
the
clouds
were
41
and
the
sun
had
returned.
Steam
was
coming
off
the
42
sidewalk
as
I
parked
my
car
next
to
the
meter
and
tossed
a
quarter
into
it.
I
43
into
the
local
store
to
buy
my
son
a
shirt.
The
air
conditioning
in
there
was
a
welcome
44
from
the
heat
outside.
After
I
made
my
45
I
walked
back
out
into
the
heat.
I
got
in
my
car
but
had
to
46
to
pull
out
because
of
all
the
cars
47
at
the
red
stop
light.
I
looked
out
of
my
car
window
and
saw
something
on
the
road.
A
single
butterfly
was
48
beating
its
wings
but
not
getting
off
the
49
.
It
was
right
in
front
of
a
truck’s
50
too.
Without
thinking
I
got
out
of
my
car,
held
my
hand
up
so
the
truck
driver
wouldn’t
51
forward,
and
bent
down
to
look
at
the
butterfly.
One
of
its
52
was
stuck
in
what
looked
like
spilt
soda.
I
reached
down
and
as
gently
as
I
could
53
the
butterfly
in
my
hands.
I
lifted
its
leg
up
and
suddenly
it
was
54
.
I
opened
my
hands
and
up
it
flew
towards
the
55
sun.
My
own
eyes
shined
brighter
and
my
own
heart
felt
56
as
I
watched
it.
Now
a
lot
of
people
might
57
why
I
would
step
out
into
traffic
like
that
to
58
a
single
butterfly.
All
I
can
say
is
that
my
heart
was
59
me
at
that
moment.
And
when
I
was
done
I
felt
more
like
my
true
self
than
I
had
all
day.
Fill
your
days
with
grace,
goodness,
and
love.
And
your
60
will
feel
as
light
as
a
butterfly.

M:
Good
afternoon,
everybody
and
welcome
to
this
class
on
English
words.
I
hope
that
all
of
you
can
hear
me.
If
not,
please
let
me
know.
I
am
Prof.
John
Morris.
I’ll
be
your
teacher
for
the
next
13
weeks.
As
you
can
probably
tell,
this
is
one
of
popular
and
crowded
classes.
Indeed,
every
time
these
courses
are
offered,
this
room
is
very
full.
Why
is
that?
Well,
in
order
to
use
the
English
language,
it’s
very
important
to
have
at
least
a
basic
understanding
of
how
words
are
formed.
Just
to
mention
one
figure,
and
there
are
many.
There
are
about
one
million
words
in
English.
If
you
are
an
English
learner,
you
might
wonder
how
you
can
possibly
remember
all
of
these
words.
Well,
for
one
thing
you
don’t
have
to.
No
native
speaker
exists
who
knows
all
of
the
words
in
the
English
language.
Besides,
there
are
shortcuts.
Shortcuts?
Yes,
for
example,
if
you
know
how
words
are
formed
by
using
parts
of
words
from
other
languages,
such
as
Greek
and
French,
you’ll
understand
a
good
number
of
English
words
when
you
first
come
across
them.
Let
me
put
it
this
way.
Knowing
the
rules
will
help
you
to
master
a
large
number
of
words.
This
is
probably
the
No.
1
reason
why
this
class
is
so
popular.
