T: I’d like to show you some pictures and please tell me what festival they are celebrating.
T: Why do you think so? How do people celebrate it?

Why do people celebrate it?
Step 2 Pre-reading
T: What festival are they celebrating?
Why do you think so? (导入dish) What special food are served on the table for the traditional family dinner?
What are they doing now?(导入make short speeches and give thanks for their food)
What other special things do they do during the festival? (导入the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Macy’s store, workers in the company, form different groups, bands play music, different kinds of balloons an floats, enjoy oneself)
When is Thanksgiving Day? Why do people celebrate it? Is there any other interesting facts about it? Let’s read a passage about it.
Step 3 Reading
T: What does “pioneers” mean? (people who are the first to do something )
Read the passage quickly and match the headings with the paragraphs.
T: Read again and complete the table.
T: Read and make a mind map.
Step 4 Post-reading(Groupwork)
T: We have learnt something about Thanksgiving Day. Now work in groups of three or four and try to talk about it.
