Time Travel
If you could travel in time, where would you go? Perhaps you would watch an original performance of a Shakespeare’s play in Elizabethan England? What about hanging out with Laozi in the Spring and Autumn Period? Or maybe you抎 voyage far ahead of the present day to see what the future holds.
The possibility of time travel is indeed appealing. Stories exploring the subject have been around for hundreds of years. Perhaps the best known example is science fiction novel The Time Machine, which was written by H.G.Wells and published in 1895 for the first time. It was adapted into at least two feature films of the same name, as well as two television versions, and a large number of comic book adaptations. It is generally credited with the popularization of the concept of time travel using a vehicle that allows an operator to travel purposefully and selectively. The term 搕ime machine, coined by Wells, is now universally used to refer to a vehicle transporting people into the far future.
But could time travel actually be possible? Some scientists say yes, in theory. They propose using cracks in time and space called 搘ormholes, which could be used as shortcuts to other periods. Einstein's theory of relativity allows time travel in extreme circumstances. And British physicist Stephen Hawking says you could travel into the future with a really fast spaceship going at nearly the speed of light. Though building such a spaceship would of course be no simple task.
Even if you could travel into the past, there is something called the 揼randfather paradox. It asks what would happen if a time traveler were to go back in time and have his own grandfather killed for some reason, and therefore prevent himself from being born.If the time traveler wasn't born, how would he travel back in time?
And would you really like to visit the future? In H.G.Wells' book, the main character travels into distant time where he arrives at a beach and is attacked by giant crabs. He then voyages 30 million years into the future where the only living thing is a black object with tentacles(触角). If that's what's in store, maybe we are better just living in the present day after all.
28.The novel The Time Machine mentioned in Paragraph 2 aims to show___________.
A. the special feature of the book
B. people's interest in time travel
C. the long history of time travel
D. the contribution of H.G. Wells
29. Einstein's and Hawking's theories_________.
A. suggest the possibility to invent the time machine
B. have similarities in many ways
C. have proved wrong by some time travelers
D. push the invention of the first spaceship
30. In Paragraph 4, grandfather paradox probably refers to the idea that ________.
A. the traveler is prevented from meeting his grandfather
B. the traveler goes back in time to seek for his grandfather
C. the grandfather's death makes the traveler's birth impossible
D. the reunion of the traveler and his grandfather brings happiness
31. According to the passage, what is probably the author's attitude towards time travel?
A. Supportive. B. Unconcerned. C. Unclear. D. Doubtful.

Dyslexia is a problem that restricts the ability to recognize words and connect sounds with letters when people read. People with this learning disorder may also have problems when they write. Dyslexia is not related to eyesight or intelligence. The problem involves areas of the brain that process language. Brain scientists are studying whether they can predict which young children may struggle with reading to provide them with early help. John Gabrieli at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is leading the study of five-year-olds in about twenty schools in the Boston area.
They studied in the schools with kindergartens. And for all the children joining in the study, they give them a brief set of paper-and-pencil tests to look at which children appear to be at some risk for struggling to read. So far, 50 of them have been examined in a scanner, a special machine, to show brain activity. Written tests are not always able to identify dyslexia or other problems, while brain scans may offer a more scientific way to identify problems. And with reading problems, early identification is important. When it comes to helping children overcome reading difficulties, the younger the child, the more effective they are.
Reading problems are not usually identified until a child is in the third or fourth grade. The later children are recognized as poor readers, the less treatment can help. And, as Professor Gabrieli points out, poor reading can make education a struggle. Reading is everything. Even math and science have textbooks.
While the children are given tasks related to reading, the brain scans measure the extent to which certain parts of the brain become active while the children do the work. The scientists say they are pleased with early results from the study, but have a long way to go.
32. Dyslexia affects the part of brain concerning ________.
A. eyesight B. intelligence C. language D. emotion
33. Dyslexia problems are more likely to be identified through ________.
A. speech contests B. reading efficiency
C. listening comprehension D. brain scans
34. According to the passage, which of the following has the best time to overcome reading difficulties?
A. Kate, a high school leaver. B. Tom, a boy in the kindergarten.
C. Jane, a primary school student. D. Steve, a man in his thirties.
35. What is the passage mainly about?
A. An effective way to identity Dyslexia at an early stage.
B. A learning disorder involving one’s intelligence.
C. Dyslexia — a problem affecting one’s reading and writing.
D. A possible solution to the problems related to Dyslexia.

M: Hi, everyone! Welcome to my blog. Here is the message I promised you. Last weekend we were taken around London in a bus. It was fantastic. I saw Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, the lions in Trafalgar Square, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. I liked the Tower of London best because it is a thousand years old. They say there are lots of ghosts walking around but I didn抰 see any! We also went to see all the famous people made of wax(蜡) at Madame Tussauds(杜莎夫人蜡像馆).That was good fun. Jean Louis took a photograph of me standing next to Queen Elizabeth the Second.
Tomorrow we’re going to Stratford on Avon where Shakespeare was born. And we’re going to see one of his plays. It’s called Hamlet. There are three theaters in Stratford and we are going to see it in the Royal Shakespeare Theater. Our teacher told us the houses in Stratford are about five hundred years old and the countryside is beautiful, so I抣l take lots of photos to show you.
