The Analysis of the Teaching Material This is a story in Unit 1 Touch and feel. It is adapted from the traditional Chinese story, The blind men and the elephant. In this short story, four blind men use their hands to touch the elephant but have different feelings and opinions because they touched different parts of the elephant.
The Content of the Lesson Students will enjoy the story: The blind men and the elephant and learn to use the key words and sentences to express their feelings of touching.

Step 2 Pre-reading 1. Show a picture of four men sitting under a tree and ask some questions.
2. Teach the new word: blind by showing pictures. Answer these questions:
1. Why are they sitting under a tree?
2. Are they sleeping?
Why are they closing their eyes?
3. Learn the new word: blind. 1. Predict the story.
2. Prepare for the reading.

Guide the Ss listen and read the first part.
2. Detailed reading
(1)Attract Ss’s attention by the sound of the elephant.
(2) Guide Ss to think over some questions before reading and encourage different opinions.
Let Ss read the whole story.

Listen and read the first part to check their guessing in pre-reading.

(1) Talk about what an elephant is like.
(2) Read the whole story and answer these questions:
How can the blind men get to know what the elephant is like?

1. Encourage Ss to retell the story.

Give them an example.
Ss work in a group of 7 to act out the story.

1. Why do the blind men have different opinions?
2. After reading the story, what is an elephant like?
Ss think over and answer the questions.
