Step 2:Presentation
Just now we talked about our problems. Do you want to know Susan`s problem? Read the letter quickly and find the answers to these questions:
Why does Susan need help?
What does Susan think of her parents?
What happened last week?
Dear Diana,
How are you going? I really need your help. Both my patents are busy with their work and they are unable to spend much time with me. I don`t think they care me and I feel that they are never there for me. For example, I study ballet at weekends. Last week we had a show. All the other girls` parents came, but mine were still at work and missed it. It made me very sad. What should I do?
Yours,
Susan
Can you give Susan some help? Let some students have a try.
Now let`s read Diana`s reply and answer the following questions:
What advice does Diana give to Susan?
What does Diana think of Susan`s problem?
What does Diana hope?
Dear Susan,
I`m very glad to receive your letter. I know you`re facing a difficult problem. Don`t worry! Your problem is very common and there are some things you can do to solve it.
First of all, try to understand why your parents can`t spend time with you. The reason is that they have to work hard to support your family. That doesn`t mean they don`t care about you. They are just too busy.
Another thing you could do is help your parents with the housework. In this way, you can not only be close to each other but also get pleasure from teamwork.
Last but not least, have a good talk with them and tell them your true feelings. I am certain they will consider spending more time with you.
I hope my advice will be of some help to you.
Best wishes,
Diana
Step 3: Practice
1.Write a letter to your partner, giving her/him some advice on how to solve her/his problem.
2.Ask Ss to check the errors by themselves first, then exchange their letters and correct the mistakes with each other. Besides spelling and grammar, ask them to pay attention to the form of letters and the punctuation.
3.Ask three or four Ss to read their letters in class.
Step 4: Sum up
Share your feelings when you need help.
Sharing a problem is like cutting it in half.
Be helpful!
Step5:Homework:
Write a letter to teenagers according to Diana`s report.
Diana`s report:
Not only adults but also teenagers have problems in their life. Here is a survey showing the main problems of 1 .
They feel stressed because they have 2 homework to do both at school and at home. They have lots of exams 3 . And parents usually send them 4 different classes at weekends. As a result, so many of them almost become bookworms(书虫). On holidays, they could hardly have 5 time to do what they are interested in. Now more and more teenagers 6 short-sighted. They often read in bed or keep 7 for a long time without having a rest. Some of them are crazy about playing computer games. Some 8 too much time watching TV. 9 serious problem among teenagers is that many of them are becoming fat. They eat too much junk food, but they take little exercise.
I think teenagers should think of ways on how to 10 the problems. They should make a plan for study and hobbies and find time to relax as much as possible.
