B
When
I
was
in
fourth
grade,
I
worked
part?time
as
a
paperboy.
Mrs.
Stanley
was
one
of
my
customers.
She'd
watch
me
coming
down
her
street,
and
by
the
time
I'd
biked
up
to
her
doorstep,
there'd
be
a
cold
drink
waiting.
I'd
sit
and
drink
while
she
talked.
Mrs.
Stanley
talked
mostly
about
her
dead
husband.
“Mr.
Stanley
and
I
went
shopping
this
morning,”
she'd
say.
The
first
time
she
said
that,
soda
went
up
my
nose.
I
told
my
father
how
Mrs.
Stanley
talked
as
if
Mr.
Stanley
were
still
alive.
Dad
said
she
was
probably
lonely,
and
that
I
ought
to
sit
and
listen
and
nod
my
head
and
smile,
and
maybe
she'd
work_it_out_of_her_system.
So
that's
what
I
did,
and
it
turned
out
Dad
was
right.
After
a
while,
she
seemed
content
to
leave
her
husband
over
at
the
cemetery
(墓地).
I
finally
quitted
delivering
newspapers
and
didn't
see
Mrs.
Stanley
for
several
years.
Then
we
crossed
paths
at
a
church
fund?raiser
(募捐活动).
She
was
spooning
mashed
potatoes
and
looking
happy.
Four
years
before,
she'd
had
to
offer
her
paperboy
a
drink
to
have
someone
to
talk
with.
Now
she
had
friends.
Her
husband
was
gone,
but
life
went
on.
I
live
in
a
community
now,
and
my
“paperboy”
is
a
lady
named
Edna
with
three
kids.
She
always
asks
me
how
I'm
doing.
When
I
don't
answer
“fine”,
she
will
stick
around
to
hear
my
problems.
She
has
lived
in
the
community
most
of
her
life,
and
she
knows
about
community.
Community
isn't
so
much
a
place
as
it
is
a
state
of
mind.
You
find
it
whenever
people
ask
how
you're
doing
because
they
care,
but
not
because
they're
getting
paid
to
do
so.
Sometimes
it's
good
to
just
smile,
nod
your
head
and
listen.
25.Why
did
soda
go
up
the
author's
nose?
A.Because
he
was
talking
fast.
B.Because
he
was
shocked.
C.Because
he
was
in
a
hurry.
D.Because
he
was
absent?minded.
26.Why
did
the
author
sit
and
listen
to
Mrs.
Stanley
according
to
the
text?
A.Because
he
enjoyed
the
drink.
B.Because
he
wanted
to
be
helpful.
C.Because
he
took
the
chance
to
rest.
D.Because
he
tried
to
please
his
dad.
27.Which
of
the
following
can
replace
the
underlined
phrase
“work
it
out
of
her
system”?
A.Recover
from
her
sadness.
B.Move
out
of
the
neighbourhood.
C.Turn
to
her
old
friends.
D.Speak
out
about
her
past.
28.What
does
the
author
think
people
in
a
community
should
do?
A.Open
up
to
others.
B.Depend
on
each
other.
C.Pay
for
others'
help.
D.Care
about
one
another.
C
“There's
no
place
like
home.”
This
English
saying
has
much
truth
in
it:
the
best
place
to
be
is
surrounded
by
our
treasured
possessions
and
our
loved
ones
and
with
a
roof
over
our
head.
And
for
many
young
adults,
it's
the
only
affordable
place
to
stay;
somewhere
where
they
can
receive
first?class
service
from
mum
and
dad.
But
this
comes
at
a
price!
In
some
countries,
it's
quite
traditional
for
people
in
their
late
teens
and
early
20s
to
live
at
home
with
their
parents,
but
in
other
places,
flying
the
nest
to
start
their
own
independent
life
is
very
desirable.
But
there's
been
a
growing
trend,
in
the
UK
at
least,
for
young
people
to
return
home
to
live—or
not
to
leave
home
at
all.
A
survey
by
a
price
comparison
website
found
that
18%
of
adult
children
in
the
UK
said
they
were
moving
back
home
because
of
debt,
compared
with
8%
last
year.
More
young
people
had
lost
their
jobs,
and
others
couldn't
afford
their
rent
compared
with
the
previous
year.
So,
it's
easy
to
see
why
they're
increasingly
becoming
home
birds.
The
BBC's
Lucy
Hooker
explains
that
many
returning
adult
children
enjoy
home
comforts.
But
for
the
‘hoteliers’,
that's
mum
and
dad;
the
survey
found
the
average
cost
to
them
has
gone
up
sharply,
and
that
they
are
sacrificing
luxuries
and
holidays
to
look
after
their
‘big
kids’.
Emma
Craig
from
Money
supermarket
says
“they're
trying
to
look
after
their
children
more.
If
your
child
comes
home
and
you
see
them
struggling
financially,
you
feel
more
awkward
asking
them
for
rent
or
to
contribute.
It
tugs
on
your
heartstrings
more.”
With
parents
splashing
out
around
£1,886
on
takeaway
food,
buying
new
furniture
and
upgrading
their
Wi?Fi
for
the
benefit
of
their
offspring,
it's
easy
for
the
returning
children
to
put
their
feet
up
and
make
themselves
at
home.
That's
before
they
learn
a
home
truth—that
one
day
it
might
be
their
own
kids
who'll
be
checking
into
the
hotel
of
mum
and
dad!
29.Which
proverb
might
present
the
young
British's
living
conditions?
A.A
lazy
youth,
an
awful
age.
B.East
or
west,
home
is
best.
C.Two
heads
are
better
than
one.
D.Nothing
comes
wrong
to
a
hungry
man.
30.Which
might
be
the
reason
for
the
increase
of
home
birds?
A.The
popularity
of
living
independently.
B.Looking
after
their
old
parents.
C.The
increase
of
unemployment
rate.
D.Their
parents'
financial
offer.
31.What's
Emma
Craig's
attitude
towards
home
birds?
A.Doubtful.
B.Uncertain.
C.Objective.
D.Understandable.
32.What
is
the
last
paragraph
mainly
about?________
A.Returning
to
live
with
parents
comes
at
a
price.
B.Parents
are
willing
to
receive
their
returning
children.
C.Flying
the
net
is
becoming
popular
at
present.
D.Home
birds
take
it
for
granted
to
live
with
their
parents.
D
There
are
energy
savings
to
be
made
from
recyclable
materials,
sometimes
huge
savings.
Recycling
plastics
and
aluminium,
for
instance,
uses
only
5%
to
10%
as
much
energy
as
producing
new
plastic
or
smelting
(提炼)
aluminium.
Long
before
most
of
us
even
noticed
what
we
now
call
“the
environment”,
Buckminster
Fuller
said,
“Pollution
is
nothing
but
the
resources
we
are
not
harvesting.
We
allow
them
to
be
left
around
because
we've
been
ignorant
of
their
value.”
To
take
one
example,
let's
compare
the
throwaway
economy
with
a
recycling
economy
as
we
feed
a
cat
for
life.
Say
your
cat
weighs
5kg
and
eats
one
can
of
food
each
day.
Each
empty
can
without
its
food
weighs
40g.
In
the
throwaway
economy,
you
would
throw
away
5,475
cans
over
the
cat's
15
years'
lifetime.
That's
219kg
of
steel—more
than
a
fifth
of
a
ton
and
more
than
40
times
of
the
cat's
weight.
In
the
recycling
economy,
we
would
make
100
cans
to
start
with,
and
then
replace
them
over
and
over
again
with
recycled
cans.
Since
almost
3%
of
the
metal
is
lost
during
reprocessing,
we'd
have
to
make
an
extra
10
cans
each
year.
But
in
all,
only
150
cans
will
be
used
up
over
the
cat's
lifetime,
and
we'll
still
have
100
cans
left
over
for
the
next
cat.
Instead
of
using
up
219kg
of
steel,
we've
used
only
6kg.
And
because
the
process
of
recycling
steel
is
less
polluting
than
making
new
steel,
we've
also
achieved
the
following
significant
savings:
in
energy
use—47%
to
74%;
in
air
pollution—85%;
in
water
pollution—35%;
in
water
use—40%.
33.What
does
Buckminster
Fuller
say
about
pollution?
A.It
is
becoming
more
serious.
B.It
destroys
the
environment.
C.It
benefits
the
economy.
D.It
is
the
resources
yet
to
be
used.
34.How
many
cans
will
be
used
up
in
a
cat's
15
years'
lifetime
in
the
recycling
economy?
A.50.
B.100.
C.150.
D.250.
35.What
is
the
author's
purpose
in
writing
the
text?
A.To
promote
the
idea
of
recycling.
B.To
introduce
an
environmentalist.
C.To
discuss
the
causes
of
pollution.
D.To
defend
the
throwaway
economy.

It's
difficult
to
find
true
friends
these
days.
__36__
How?
Here
are
some
tips
on
how
to
make
your
friendship
last
forever:
Call
for
no
reason.
Call
just
to
say
“Hi”
or
just
to
ask
“What's
up?”.
If
you
can't
call,
just
send
an
e?mail.
__37__
Know
when
to
say
“I'm
sorry”
and
“Thank
you”.
__38__
Show
appreciation
for
the
things,
big
or
little,
which
your
friend
does
for
you.
Say
thank
you.
It's
that
easy.
__39__
If
you
have
nothing
good
to
say,
don't
talk
at
all.
Don't
risk
hurting
your
friend's
feelings
by
saying
hurtful
words
that,
most
of
the
time,
you
don't
really
mean.
Be
honest.
Don't
lie
to
friends.
Trust
is
the
foundation
of
a
true
friendship.
Write
them
a
note
from
time
to
time.
Also,
try
to
be
thoughtful.
Give
simple
gifts
that
will
make
their
day.
Never
be
mean
with

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Steve
was
the
most
amazing
person
in
all
of
Minneapolis,
and
he
was
my
cousin.
By
the
age
of
19,
Steve
was
a
star
baseball
player
at
the
University
of
Minnesota.
I
wanted
to
be
exactly
like
him.
So
when
Steve
asked
me
to
go
with
him
on
a
spring
fishing
trip
in
northern
Minnesota,
I
was
excited!
After
planning
the
trip,
we
prepared
clothes
and
supplies,_and
began
our
great
adventure.
We
reached
the
Superior
National
Forest
in
northern
Minnesota
by
early
evening.
On
our
way
to
the
campsite,_Steve
pointed
to
a
small
house
faraway
in
one
of
the
mountains,
saying
that
it
was
the
ranger_station
(护林站)
where
the
forester
worked.
Finally,
after
a
long
walk,
we
reached
the
campsite
and
set
up
the
camp
as
the
sun
was
setting.
Steve
knew
all
the
tricks
of
an
experienced
wilderness
camper.
After
we
gathered
enough
wood
from
the
forest,_he
started
the
campfire
using
only
stone
and
steel—no
matches.
For
supper
we
feasted
on
freeze?dried
beef,
wild
rice
and
pea
soup.
I
ate
greedily
after
all
that
work.
Tired
enough,we
climbed
into
our
sleeping
bags
early
and
talked
about
our
plans
for
fishing
the
next
day.
We
were
still
talking
quietly
when
a
sudden
north
wind
picked
up;
the
temperature
dropped
and
it
began
to
snow.
Steve
found
a
way
to
increase
the
temperature
inside
the
tent.
He
dragged
a
log
(原木)
from
the
forest
to
the
opposite
side
of
the
campfire.
Then
he
wrapped
aluminum
foil
(铝箔)
around
the
log.
The
heat
from
the
fire
reflected
off
the
foil
and
into
the
tent.
Soon
images
of
lake
fish
were
filling
my
dreams.
The
snow
had
stopped,
but
sometime
later
a
powerful
wind
must
have
kicked
up
the
flames
of
our
dying
fire.
I
was
abruptly
awakened
by
Steve.
Our
tent
was
on
fire.
Frightened,
I
ran
out
of
the
tent
immediately.
The
tent
collapsed
(倒塌)
with
Steve
inside.
Without
any
thought
of
endangering
myself,
I
rushed
into
the
burning
tent
and
pulled
him
to
the
icy
lake.
Fortunately,
we
were
not
seriously
hurt.

The

I
had
to
talk
with

M:Stephanie,
you
have
been
teaching
English
in
this
Paris
school
for
ten
years,
right?
W:Sure.
I
became
a
teacher
when
I
was
24.
At
27,
I
came
to
the
school
in
Paris.
M:Wow.
Is
schooling
in
France
similar
to
that
of
other
European
countries?
W:Yes,
but
in
France,
most
schools
follow
a
four?day
week.
Wednesday
is
free,
or
used
for
activities.
Most
students
around
the
world
attend
school
for

French
students
only
attend
for
160
days.
M:Do
students
have
long
hours
to
make
up
for
the
missed
time?
W:No,
students
have
a
26?hour
week,
from
9:00
in
the
morning
until
4:30
in
the
afternoon.
Students
also
have
one
hour
and
a

for
lunch.
M:Do
French
students
have
enough
time
to
learn?
W:Of
course.
Learning
does
not
end

the
classroom.
Children
need
time
to
be
creative.
Relaxed
students
learn
much
more
effectively
than
tired
students.

How
do
people
name
their
children?
Different
countries
have
different
ways
to
name
their
children.
Let's
take
a
look
at
a
few.
In
Spain,
a
child
usually
has
two
given
names
and
two
surnames.
The
first
surname
is
the
same
as
the
father's
first
surname,
and
the
second
is
the
mother's
first
surname.
The
given
names
may
be
the
same
as
a
grandparent's.
In
Nigeria,
children's
names
are
chosen
by
family
elders.
The
children's
parents
wait
for
names
from
the
grandparents
and
other
important
family
members.
These
names
describe
the
day
of
the
baby's
birth.
The
baby's
name
is
announced
at
a
party
on
the
eighth
day
after
the
child's
birth.
In
Turkey,
babies
are
often
named
according
to
the
time
of
their
birth.
For
example,
if
a
child
was
born
in
spring,
the
chosen
name
might
be
Bahar.
It
means
spring.
A
baby
born
during
bad
weather
might
be
named
Tufan.
It
means
storm.

Paragraph
1:
Later,
as
we
stood
by
the
burning
tent
to
keep
warm,
we
considered
our
difficult
situation.
Our
campsite
was
deep
in
the
forest,_really
far
away
from
the
highway.
We
were
in
the
middle
of
nowhere,
wearing
only
underwear,
with
our
supplies
burnt
into
ashes,
including
our
cellphones.
Even
Steve
was
unsure
what
to
do
next.
The
only
thing
we
could
do
was
just
sit
in
the
cold
air
and
wonder
how
to
get
out
of
the
forest.
Paragraph
2:
Suddenly,
we
heard
a
noise
in
the

Anxiously
we
listened
and
stared
into
the
darkness.
A
car
appeared.
A
forester
had
spotted
the
light
from
the
fire
and
come
to
have
a
check.
We
jumped
into
the
warm
vehicle
and
the
forester
drove
us
to
the
ranger_station,_where
we
were
given
clothes
and
were
able
to
call
our
parents.
Steve
and
I
had
many
more

adventures
from
then
on,
but
it
was
from
this

that
Steve
began
to
treat
me
more
like
a

and
equal,
rather
than
a
younger
cousin.
Our
friendship
continues
to
this
day.
