Minutes after the last movie ended yesterday at the Plaza Theater, employees were busy sweeping up popcorns and gathering coke cups. It was a scene that had been repeated many times in the theater's 75瓂ear history. This time, however, the cleanup was a little different. As one group of workers carried out the rubbish, another group began removing seats and other theater equipment in preparation for the building's end.
The film classic The Last Picture Show was the last movie shown in the old theater. Though the movie is 30 years old, most of the 250 seats were filled with teary璭yed audience wanting to say good璪ye to the old building. Theater owner Ed Bradford said he chose the movie because it seemed appropriate. The movie is set in a small town where the only movie theater is preparing to close down.
Bradford said that large modern theaters in the city made it impossible for the Plaza to compete. He added that the theater's location (位置) was also a reason.“This used to be the center of town,”he said. “Now the area is mostly office buildings and warehouses. ”
Last week some city officials suggested the city might be interested in turning the old theater into a museum and public meeting place. However, these plans were abandoned because of financial problems. Bradford sold the building and land to a local development firm, which plans to build a shopping complex on the land where the theater is located.
The theater audience said good璪ye as Bradford locked the doors for the last time. After 75 years the Plaza Theater had shown its last movie. The theater will be missed.

A.It will be repaired.
B.It will be turned into a museum.
C.It will be knocked down.
D.It will be sold to the city government.

B.They are sad to part with the old theater.
C.They are supportive of the city officials.
D.They are eager to have a shopping center.

Ola Orekunrin is the founder and managing director of the for?profit company, Flying Doctors Nigeria Ltd., the first emergency (紧急情况) air ambulance(救护车) service in the country.
In Nigeria, where road conditions can be poor, and rural clinics are often unprepared to deal with major medical emergencies, Flying Doctors has become a lifesaver, airlifting patients from remote areas to hospitals, and providing care on the way.
London璪orn Orekunrin was inspired to set up the company after her 12?year?old sister died. When she was still in medical school in the U. K., her sister was on holiday in Nigeria and unexpectedly needed emergency treatment. The nearest clinic wasn't able to treat her. The family tried to find an air ambulance to move her to the hospital, but the quickest?available service was far away in South Africa .Her sister had died by the time a flight became available.
“ I was filled with deep sadness and almost anger,” Orekunrin says. “I wanted to come to Nigeria and try to contribute in some way.
After studying other models of emergency air ambulances in the U. K. and other parts of Africa, Orekunrin knew it would be the most effective way to help patients access the proper facilities in a large area that is often difficult to travel by car.
But getting_Flying_Doctors_off_the_ground_wasn't_easy. Orekunrin began by renting aircraft as a way to keep costs down. She then established partnerships with hospitals across Africa and abroad and started her company nearly five years ago. The company now has 20 helicopters and jets and a staff that includes seven senior flight doctors.
Orekunrin has also worked toward improving medical care across Nigeria. Flying Doctors now provides scholarships for medical students and has established partnerships with rural non璯overnmental organizations, such as the Starlite Hopes Initiative, in Nigeria's Delta State, which offers care to the poor.
Orekunrin hopes to keep finding new ways to improve medical services in Nigeria. The young doctor knows there are challenges ahead, but as she's already shown, not even the sky is the limit.

D.It helps to build roads.

Giving generously and receiving gratefully make it easier to live happily with others.
Yet, why do we have such difficulty accomplishing these things in our relationships?
Let me start with the idea of giving generously. I think people are unwilling to be generous to others because they fear to be used. For example, my husband and I have family members who only contact us when they need money. We usually accept their requests, but we rarely receive a 搕hank you. Most people would say that my husband and I are being used, and I suppose we are. But when we give, we shouldn't be giving for the purpose of getting gratitude or praise. Rather, we should be giving because it's the good thing to do. A thank you is merely the_icing_on_the_cake.
Everything that we have, from our ability to wake up each morning to the money in our bank account, is a gift from the world. In return, the world asks us to use these gifts to help others, either by giving them our time or our resources.
The good news is that when we live our lives being nice to others, our lives run more smoothly(顺利地) .
If you're generous, yes, some people will use you. But if you practice being generous, most of your relationships will improve.
And at the same time, we should remember to receive gratefully. I truly believe that you cannot say 搕hank you enough. So often we get lazy about expressing gratitude. Parents can feel unappreciated by their children, and teachers can feel unappreciated by their students. Just because a task is part of someone's job description doesn't mean that you shouldn't thank them for it.
Words of appreciation make others feel good about themselves like nothing else. It's good for us to say 搕hank you because we regularly need to remind ourselves of how lucky we are. And hearing those two words can make us feel great for days.
If you are looking for a secret solution to improve your life, I can give you one: Give generously and receive gratefully.
32. The author mentions her family members in the passage mainly to explain ________.
A.why we should give even if we feel we are being used
B.why people have trouble expressing gratitude
C.why we should accept whatever others request
D.why it's necessary to express gratitude or praise
33. What does the underlined phrase “ the icing on the cake” in Paragraph 3 probably refer to?
A.something that is necessary
B.something that is not of much help
C.something that leads to an unexpected result
D.something that makes an experience better
34. According to the author, why should we be grateful to those who help us?
A.Because it makes us feel lucky.
B.Because words of gratitude delight people.
C.Because it's not other people's duty to help us.
D.Because all we normally get are gifts from the world.
35. What's the purpose of writing this passage?
A.To stress the importance of being generous.
B.To persuade people to give generously and receive thankfully.
C.To show how to express our gratitude to others.
D.To give tips on how to improve other people's lives.

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a very hot afternoon. My friend Leah and I were waiting for the rush hour train. We were tired and couldn't wait to get back to the place where we were living.
When the train arrived, we got into the second carriage from the front. The air?conditioning wasn't working at the rear (后部), so the front was particularly crowded that day. I sat by the window admiring the changing landscape.
Suddenly we felt an enormous pressure pushing us backwards into our seats. The windows broke into tiny pieces and dust flew around violently. I could barely open my eyes.
The train was suffering from a crash, and it didn't feel as if it were going to stop. When it did, I thought, I would be dead. I thought about my husband Guy, who was supposed to receive the news first. I thought of my dear father and other family members, wondering how each would deal with my death.
Voices began to break through my thoughts. People were anxious. Strangely, I was totally calm. I wasn't panicking; my heart wasn't even beating fast. When the train finally stopped, we slowly stood up, pushing off the table that had fallen onto us; others stayed in their seats and many were injured and covered in blood. I could hear screaming. A soldier pushed the damaged door open for us to escape.
Our carriage had run out of rails and we were halfway home. We had a lot of blood on us and I searched my body for wounds, but I didn't find any. My knees felt painful and my hips were black and blue, and Leah had her hand cut when jumping off the train, but that wasn't serious.
Helicopters landed and we saw soldiers running in and out. All around us were ambulances (救护车), and people lying on the ground. Everyone was shouting for help. I rang Guy, who was very calm and said he would come and get us. Seeing all these brought me great emotional hurt.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
It was almost dark by the time we found Guy and he drove us home.

Text 10
In many countries now the drivers and front passenger are told to wear seat belts. Most doctors believe that seat belts save people from being seriously hurt in an accident. But there are some people who still think that it is more dangerous to wear a seat belt than not to wear one. They say that a seat belt may trap one in a car that is burning, or that has fallen into a river or the sea and is sinking.
But less than half of car accidents lead to fire or sinking, and in any case, a seat belt may easily save a person from being killed. He or she is able to undo the seat belt immediately and get out of the car that is on fire or sinking.
Some people who are against seat belts also sometimes say that without one, one may be thrown right out of a car if an accident happens. But doctors will tell you that that is the last thing one wants to happen: if one is thrown out of a car, one hits something, usually the road, and usually hard and at a high speed. So it is better to remain inside in the case of an accident.
Now, I hope you can see why it is necessary to wear a seat belt.

参考范文:
Dear teachers and students,
Good morning, I'm glad to stand here to give you a speech. Today my topic is “ Save the Wild Animals”. As we all know, the number of wild animals is dramatically decreasing, because the environment that they are living in has changed greatly. For example, with the development of cities, their living areas have become narrower and narrower. Many wild animals, confronted with food crisis, are facing the danger of extinction. At the same time, people capture and kill the endangered species just for getting their fur, skin, teeth and meat.
As a result, the relevant departments and people must come up with some plans and put them into practice. To start with, the killing of rare species should be prohibited. Besides, those who capture wild animals intentionally should be severely punished. Last but not least, more and more national parks should be set up as natural reserves for the conservation of wild animals.
Only if we human beings take some strong measures can wild animals be preserved,
Thank you!

参考范文:
It was almost dark by the time we found Guy and he drove us home. Slowly I realized what we had just been through. My father arrived later to find me unable to eat, sleep or talk, in a condition of confusion and fear. Why wasn't I injured? Why did I survive? I think it was a mixture of luck and that we fastened our safety belts, so the force of the crash pushed us into our seats, rather than across the train.
In the days that followed, I convinced myself had internal bleeding. I went to hospital, but doctors told me that I was fine; I think it was just part of the emotional hurt I was feeling. I had survived one of the worst ever train crashes—eight people died and at least 200 were injured in that train crash. But I did escape from the terrible disaster fortunately. Even now, no one knows why it happened.
