There were smiling children all the way. Clearly they knew at what time the train passed their homes and they made it their business to stand along the railway, wave to complete strangers and cheer them up as they rushed towards Penang. Often the whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on the trains had been their favorite relatives. This was the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved.
I had always travelled to Malaysia by plane or car, so this was the first time I was on a train. I did not particularly relish (喜欢;品味) the long train journey and had brought along a dozen newspapers and magazines to read and reread. I looked around the train. There was not one familiar face. I sighed and sat down to read my 21st Century Teens.
It was not long before the train was rattling across the Causeway and in Malaysia. Johore Bahru was just another city like Singapore, so I was tired of looking at the crowds of people as they hurried past. As we went beyond the city, I watched the straight rows of rubber trees and miles and miles of green. Then the first village came into sight. Immediately I came alive; I decided to wave back.
From then on my journey became interesting. I threw my magazines into the waste basket and decided to join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me. Even the trees were smiling. I stared at everything as if I had been looking at it for the first time.
The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry. I looked at my watch and was surprised that it was 3:00 pm. Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth. I looked at the people all around me. They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile, I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug. I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weather?beaten face warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car.
I looked forward to the return journey, by train.
24.The author expected the train trip to be ________.
A.adventurous B.pleasant
C.exciting D.boring
25.What did the author remember the most fondly of his train trip?
A.The friendly country people. B.The mountains along the way.
C.The crowds of people in the streets. D.The simple lunch served on the train.
26.Where was the writer going?
A.Johore Bahru. B.The Causeway.
C.Butterworth. D.Singapore.
27.What is the best title for the text?
A.Comfort in travelling by train. B.Pleasure of living in the country.
C.Reading gives people happiness. D.Smiles brighten people up.

I visited Aruba last week. On the first day, I mainly enjoyed comfortable sunshine on the beach there. But I needed more than sunshine and sand to fill my week.
I rented a car the next day. My first stop that day was the Alto Vista Chapel, a historic north璼ide Roman Catholic church. Just as I entered it, a colourful 損arty bus filled with singing tourists pulled into the parking lot, ending the silence. So I left soon.
From the church I made my way to the California Lighthouse, named for the steamship California that sank nearby in 1891. After spending some time there, I went to La Trattoria El Faro Blanco, an Italian restaurant that sits on top of the hill and offers scenic views.
I love golfing, so I wasn't going on vacation without spending a day on the courses. The Tierra del Sol Country Club is for golfing on the island located at its northwest point. Opened in 1995, it is a beautiful place with views of the sea and the California Lighthouse. I spent a full day there.
To completely escape from the other tourists, I booked a four環our jeep tour for the fourth day. I went to the Arikok National Park, which covers nearly 20 percent of the island. I stood on a cliff and looked down on a natural pool that was formed inside volcanic rock (火山岩). It was amazing.
My final night was spent at Madame Janette Restaurant. Friends who had been to Aruba told me I had to go there. I dined there while listening to a local musician performing the Beatles' While My Guitar Gently Weeps. It was so good and the crowd demanded more.
28.Why did the author leave the Alto Vista Chapel soon?

C.Because there were too many tourists. D.Because some tourists made the place noisy.

A.He enjoyed the views of the sea from a lighthouse.
B.He tasted the local food in a popular restaurant.
C.He played a sport in a club.
D.He paid a visit to a park.
30.What is the author's purpose in writing the passage?
A.To introduce attractions in Aruba. B.To encourage readers to visit Aruba.
C.To explain why Aruba is worth a visit. D.To share his travel experience in Aruba.
31.How is the passage mainly developed?
A.By following the space order. B.By following the time order.
C.By offering causes and effects. D.By giving examples.

When I was a baby, I entertained you and made you laugh. Whenever I was “bad”, you'd shake your finger at me and ask, “How could you?”—but then you'd give up, and roll me over for a belly scratch and I believed that life could not be any more perfect.
My housetraining was a long process, because you were terribly busy, but we worked on that together. We went for long walks, runs in the park and car rides. We stopped for ice cream. I took long naps in the sun waiting for you to come home at the end of the day.
Gradually, you began spending more time at work and on your career, and more time searching for a human mate. Eventually, you fell in love. She, now your wife, is not a dog person, but I still welcomed her into our home. I was happy because you were happy. Then the human babies came along and I shared your excitement, I was fascinated by their pinkness, how they smelled, and I wanted to mother them too. Your wife was afraid I would bite them. But nevertheless, as they began to grow, I became their friend.
Now, you have a new job in another city and you and they will be moving to an apartment that does not allow pets. You've made the right decision for your 揻amily, but there was a time when I was your only family.
I was excited about the car ride until we arrived at the dog pound. It smelled of dogs and cats, of fear, of hopelessness. You filled out the paperwork and said, “I know you will find a good home for her.” They shrugged and gave you a pained look. The children were in tears as they waved me goodbye. And “How_could_you?” were the only three words that swept over my mind.
Is it better to live with hope or without hope? At first, whenever anyone passed my pen, I rushed to the front, hoping it was you, that you had changed your mind and that this was all a bad dream.
My beloved master, I will think of you and wait for you forever. I hope you receive more faithfulness from your family than you showed to me.
32.Why was the dog excited about the car ride?
A.It thought of moving with its master. B.It hoped to be adopted (收养) by another family.
C.It was longing for the life at the pound. D.It was happy about its master's decision.
33.The underlined sentence in Paragraph 5 shows that ________.
A.the dog had done many bad things B.the dog would be given less care
C.the master's decision upset the dog D.the master left the dog with regret
34.Which is TRUE about the dog when it lived at the pound?
A.It felt disappointed with its master. B.It continued to love its former owner.
C.It did not trust humans any more. D.It was excited about the pound.
35.What is the theme of the story?
A.Be ready for changes. B.Never expect too much.

第二节 概要写作(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Does writing come hard to you? Are you discouraged to find yourself poor at writing? Nobody is born knowing how to write. Good writing habits, which help make you write on a regular basis, are necessary for you to improve your writing.
Firstly, you are supposed to read a wide range of books. It's obvious when a writer is not well?read. Lack of reading will be obvious in every sentence one writes. Reading prepares you with necessary knowledge to be a good writer. What's more, it provides you with basic skills for writing. The importance of reading cannot be stressed too much: read as much and as often as you can.
Secondly, it's important to make a writing schedule and write daily if it is possible. Whether you write for two hours a day or fifteen minutes a day, daily writing is the key to developing good writing habits. It's better to write for fifteen or twenty minutes every day than to sit for five or six hours to write over the weekend. However, if you can make a daily writing schedule with longer hours on your writing on weekends, then it's much better.
One of the worst habits is never to get help from others to improve your writing. It is advised that you share your work with others. For example, you can write a blog post on your own site, send your writing around to a few friends, round up some readers and let them comment on your writing. That way, you'll find your writing gradually improved.
