A trip to Paris is not complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower. To get the most out of your visit read our tips below:
Visit at Night
Riding up the Eiffel Tower at night and looking out over the streets of Paris, you'll see why Paris is known as the “City of Light”. At street level, the spotlights on the top of the Tower and the reflections of the Tower in the Seine (塞纳河) are sights not to be missed.
Purchase Your Ticket in Advance Online
Avoid the long ticket lines at the Eiffel Tower by purchasing your ticket online from the Eiffel Tower website.
You'll pick a time to visit and then select whether to print out the ticket or display it on your phone or iPad, a convenient choice if you buy your ticket in Paris without a printer.
Don't Bring Valuable Objects with You
Before entering the Eiffel Tower, your bags will be examined by a security officer. If an item you are carrying sets off the metal detector, the officer will take you away from the line for further inspection. Probably you will miss the chance to go up the Eiffel Tower.
Have Drinks and Snacks at the Eiffel Tower
If you're like us, after an exciting trip to the Eiffel Tower, you'll be ready to rest your legs and have a relaxing snack and a drink in a Parisian cafe. Across the Seine in the Trocadero area, there are many elegant cafes. The atmosphere is great, but the prices are in the stratosphere (极高水平). Actually, the perfect place for visitors to eat and drink is on the Eiffel Tower itself.

George was a game warden (猎物繁殖和保护区的管理员) in Kenya. One day, he found three tiny lions beside a dead lioness. They were so little that their eyes had not yet opened. Sadly, he took the three little lions and drove back home.
When George got out of the car with the baby lions, his wife Joy Adamson immediately took over. Joy had cared for many young animals over the years, but she had never tried raising baby lions! However, she was determined to save these babies.
The lions grew rapidly. But as the lion grew bigger and stronger, Joy and George realized they could not keep three large lions. They decided to present two of the lions to a zoo; they would keep the smallest lion, which they named Elsa.
Joy and George taught Elsa to hunt and to protect herself. Elsa liked to play with her human friends, but as Elsa grew to her adult size, this play became dangerous. More than once, Elsa knocked Joy to the ground, scratching (抓伤) her. Joy and George both realized that it was time to find Elsa a new home. They knew she needed a wild home where she could live the life she was born to lead. Finally, Joy and George decide to set Elsa free in Meru Park at the foot of Mt. Kenya.
Elsa never forgot Joy and George. Whenever they camped nearby, Elsa would come to visit, rubbing her head against their legs in greeting.
Joy missed Elsa, but was happy that she had made a successful life as a wildlion. Joy wrote a book about Elsa, Born Free, which became an international bestseller. Joy traveled all over the world, talking about the importance of saving the wild animals of the world.
Joy lived out her life in Africa, working with wild animals. She wrote more books about her experiences. Her heart felt interested in animals and her great love for Elsa helped inspire (激发) a worldwide movement to protect wildlife. For Joy Adamson, there was no greater gift than the beauty and spirit of wild animals, living free.

The similarities between elephant and human behaviour have been a curiosity to scientists worldwide. These huge beasts are not so different from us. Their devotion to their family is just as powerful as the friendships between humans. In order to prevent future elephant attacks, people must first understand the similarities between elephants and themselves.
Because deaths are felt so deeply in elephants, memories of people harming or killing elephants are not forgotten. Due to the Uganda璗anzania War in Africa, poaching (偷猎) elephants increased during the 1970's and continued, despite government restrictions. However, ecologists like Eve Abe did not see this as simple poaching; they saw it as a “mass destruction”. Elephants that have witnessed the murder of a matriarch,_are more likely to become violent and attack humans. Many aggressive elephants do not act without reasons; they are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). At their young age, humans invaded their life, killed their parents, and ultimately destroyed their peaceful environment. More and more calves live neglected lives without a mother figure, and have to become a parent early for survival. Humans that have a difficult childhood or early family life also suffer from aggression and pain. Young elephants have been known to have “nightmares” , waking up suddenly and screaming. These are clearly signs of stress, as males grow up to be increasingly hostile (敌对的) to humans and target certain villages where painful experiences have occurred.
Although many see elephants as massive, violent, and simple璵inded animals, their social structure is not unlike many human societies. Humans and elephants have been on parallel paths. However, if people continue practising ignorance over the cruel treatment of these creatures, then collision will become inevitable.
Cruel treatment of elephants still goes on, but by understanding the similarities between us, it can be stopped.
28.What is advised to do in order to stop the hostile behaviour of elephants?
A.Take good care of the young elephants.
B.Understand the similarities between elephants and humans.
C.Carry out the government restrictions.
D.Stop harming or killing the group members of elephants.
29.What does the underlined word “matriarch” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.A young elephant. B.A male elephant.
C.A strong elephant. D.A mother elephant.
30.What can we learn from the text?
A.Young elephants will grow up to be violent easily.
B.Sometimes young elephants are forced to grow up.
C.Humans and elephants have the same social structure.
D.Elephants attack villages when painful experiences occur.
31.Why should we take good care of young kids?
A.Because early family life counts.
B.Because signs of stress have to be stopped.
C.Because they will be aggressive when they grow up.
D.Because humans and elephants are on parallel paths.

People in several American states may be surprised to see cars on city streets without a driver. Experimental self璬riving vehicles are now legal in Florida, Nevada and California. They are pointing to a future that is near. The high璽ech company Google has a number of self璬riving cars, which has covered 480,000 kilometers by August. Volvo is among the companies doing road tests and says it plans to sell self璬riving cars by 2020.
In September, the California governor Jerry Brown signed an act to allow autonomous vehicles on the roads of his state. Brown said, 揟oday we're witnessing the science fiction becoming tomorrow's reality—the self?driving car. ” The technology for these cars includes cameras, radar and motion sensors. The systems have been improved through competitions sponsored by the U.S. government agency DARPA. The engineer Richard Mason of the Rand Corporation helped design the self?driving vehicles for DARPA challenge races.
“Cars have become much more fuel?efficient, and new electronic features are making Hondas safer,” said Angie Nucci. “A camera on the passenger?side mirror is actually connected with your guiding screen to you can safely change lanes. Other safety features include warning systems on the front and the sides of the cars. These systems help drivers, but don't replace them. The curator Leslie Kendall of the Petersen Automotive Museum said that autonomous cars will make the highways safer.
揃y taking out drivers, you also remove most risks of an accident,” Kendall said. He said that consumers, however, may be unwilling to lose control.“It may take them time to come to realize that the technology is indeed reliable, but it will have to prove itself first.”
Mason said the technology has already worked and the biggest challenge now is to reduce the cost of self?driving vehicles from thousands of dollars to some price more affordable. He said that this will happen as the technology is improved.
32.What can we learn from Paragraph 1?
A.Self?driving vehicles are now legal in the whole USA.
B.Volvo will be the first to sell self?driving cars.
C.Self?driving cars are bringing us a new future.
D.Google's self?driving cars have covered a long distance.
33.What is the role of the systems mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A.They can help people drive more safely. B.They can take the place of drivers now.
C.They can make cars run without fuel. D.They can help cars run much faster.
34.According to Richard Mason, what is the biggest challenge for self?driving cars?
A.They are not allowed to run on the road.
B.Their technical problems remain to be solved.
C.They are now too expensive for consumers.
D.They are more dangerous for people on the street.
35.What's the best title of the passage?
A.The Benefits of Self?driving Cars.
B.The Biggest Challenge of Self?driving Cars.
C.Safer or More Dangerous—Self?driving Cars.
D.Self?driving Cars—Future in Science Fiction Is Near.

The first day of my school, our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned round to find an old lady looking up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being. She said, “Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty?seven years old. Can I give you a hug?” I laughed and enthusiastically (热情地) responded, “Of course you may”, and she gave me a big hug. “Why are you in college at such an age?” I asked. She jokingly replied, “I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids...”
“No seriously,” I asked. I was curious about what may have motivated (激发) her to be taking on this challenge at her age. “I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!” she told me.
After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friend. During the next three months, we would leave class together and talk nonstop (不停顿地) every day. I always liked listening to this “time machine” as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.
Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon (校园图标) and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and showed happiness at the attention upon her from other students. She was living it up.
At the end of the semester, we invited Rose to give a speech at our football banquet (盛宴). I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the stage.

第二节
One possible version:
A little nervous, she stood behind the microphone and simply said, “I'm glad to be invited here to speak. Most of you often ask me why I go to college at my age. It's my dream that I always dreamed in the past. I don't think I'm too old to go to college. Don't you think I'm still a young, being happy and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. You can't stop playing because you are old; you grow old because you stop playing, so keep on playing.”
At the year's end, Rose finished the college degree. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. For me, I lose a good friend, but I'll have her in my mind, and I often remember what she said in the speech. I believe that when she left, she must have no regrets, because her dream came true.
