Meanwhile, another course Lucas Irwin took in order to keep on going with his weight loss plan was to chat with the Reddit Loselt Community who gave him the support he needed at the time.

It was dinner time for the Rangers, a group of Indigenous (本地的) Australians who had spent a long day cleaning up the polluted beaches of the continent's northern coast. Soon they would be eating freshly caught fish and seafood cooked under the stars on an open fire, as their ancestors did.
The Rangers are of more than 100 indigenous groups spreading across Australia who have taken on the job of protecting the land of their forefathers. In Arnhem Land, they are the protectors of 3,300 square miles of land and sea. They comb the beaches by hand, picking up as much rubbish as possible. The task is very difficult as each day it delivers waves of new rubbish.
For the Rangers, cleaning the beaches is more than a vacation. For a people whose culture is strongly tied to the land, protecting the environment is equal to preserving their history.
However, colonization forcefully broke their connection to the land generations ago. Indigenous people were displaced and their cultural practices were outlawed. Tens of thousands of years of traditional land management ended, and as a result many parts of the country now face serious disasters from invasive plants and animal species, bush fires and land mismanagement.
In recent years, the government has restored more than 20 percent of Australia's land to Indigenous owners. Since 2007, the Indigenous Rangers Organizations have been protecting this land.
Luckily, one of the few non璉ndigenous employees working with the Rangers, said the combination, new techniques and an appreciation for the culture of Indigenous workers have been critical to the program's success.
揧ou are working with staff who see the world different to you, so there is a much higher focus on the cultural aspects of work and life,” he said.
“Being a ranger is a source of confidence. You feel strong,” said Terence, a senior ranger. “Here we still live on the land. The culture is still alive.”
28.What did Indigenous Australians live on in the past?
A.Rubbish picked up by hand. B.Protecting the land.
C.Catching the fish and seafood. D.Invasive plants and animals.
29.What do the Rangers think of cleaning the beaches?
A.It's a job of their ancestors'. B.It's just a vacation.
C.It's a difficult task. D.It's their culture.
30.Why has the government restored the land to Indigenous owners?
A.The polluted land needs better management. B.Their cultural practices were outlawed.
C.The people were too strong. D.The land belongs to them.
31.What can we learn from the last three paragraphs?
A.Not many employees are Indigenous Australians.
B.Culture is important to the Indigenous Australians.
C.Their new techniques are successful.
D.Both Luck and Terence are rangers.
D
Some people say roses are difficult to grow. But you have a good chance of success if you start with a few suggestions from experts.
You should plant your roses where they can stay under the sun for about six hours on bright days. You can buy potted roses, also known as container roses, or bare璻oot plants. Some gardeners say potted roses are easier to plant. They say the roots develop better. But Jeffrey, president of Nature Hills Nursery in Omaha, points out that bare璻oot roses come without soil. So they weigh less to transport.
Experts also advise getting bare?root roses as close to planting time as you can. If they arrive before you are ready to plant them, make sure the packing material is moist (潮湿的). Keep the plants in a cool, dark place. The resting plants have no leaves but still need water. When growing roses, the soil should feel moist deep down. Watering should be done in the morning. That can prevent problems called black spot. But do not water too much. Jeffrey says the spots on rose leaves are usually caused by too much water. After heavy rains or too much watering, he advises pulling away mulch (覆盖物) from around the roots for a while—this will help dry the soil.
In normal conditions, placing mulch around rose plants is a good idea. Mulch covers weeds and holds moisture (水分) in the soil. If insects invade (入侵) your rose bushes, you may be able to force them off with just a strong spray of water.
32.Roses should be put in places where they can get enough ________.
A.shadow B.space
C.wind D.sunshine
33.Which is better considering transportation according to Jeffrey?
A.Potted roses. B.Bare?foot roses.
C.Container roses. D.Bright roses.
34.What do you need to check when you don't plant roses at once when they arrive?
A.The quantity of the leaves. B.The temperature of water.
C.The quantity of water. D.The temperature of packing.
35.The spots on rose leaves can be solved by ________.
A.moving away mulch B.watering more
C.adding more soil D.picking leaves

It was raining pretty hard on Halloween, but that wasn't going to stop my little sister kate and me from trick璷r璽reating. We decided to start at Miss Parson's house. Miss Parson was loved by us kids who lived nearby because she often shared her self璵ade cookies with us. We usually finished them in a second, especially when we were hungry after class. Sometimes, when we visited her or did something for her, she always gave us surprise.
Kate and I wondered what kinds of treats she'd offer. As we walked down the street, I held an umbrella, and my sister's hand, a bag for candy. Jack?o'?lanterns gave soft light along the street. Spider webs hung in all the windows. Parents who were dressed up like monsters (怪物) stood in doorways. After we had walked a few blocks, we were wet from head to toes, and I felt Kate was trembling with cold.
There was a light on at Miss Parson's house, but there were no ghosts, goblins (小妖精), or Jack?o'?lanterns. We climbed up the steps and saw Miss Parson through a window. She was drinking a cup of hot tea.
“Maybe she doesn't celebrate Halloween,” Kate said with a sigh, disappointedly.
“Well, even if she doesn't, she usually likes it when we visit her,” I said and knocked on the door.
Miss Parson seemed surprised when she opened it and saw our dressing. “Is today Halloween?” she asked. “I completely forgot. I am so sorry!”

第二节
One possible version:
Miss Parson rushed us into her house.“It's cold out here,” she said. My sister's face was shining from the rain and Miss Parson dried her cheeks. “Thank you,” Kate said. “Trick or treat?”
“Oh, right! Treats,” said Miss Parson in surprise. Then she disappeared for a moment and came back with a big smile on her face. “Open those bags wide,” she said. She dropped two boxes of cocoa (可可) into our bags. “Winter is just around the corner,” she said. “Some hot cocoa will keep you warm.”
“Thank you,” we both said. “Happy Halloween!”
The next morning, a hot and sweet discussion about Miss Parson and Halloween spread among us kids. We told Mom about how Miss Parson had forgotten Halloween and about what she had given to us and the other kids. “It sounds as if nobody was very upset, even though she forgot Halloween, ” said Mom. “No, we were happy,” I said. “Although she didn't give us candy, it was kind of fun for us all to get something different for a change. I hope it will become a Halloween tradition to give out unusual treats.”
