Unit 1 I always like birthday parties
一、 Teaching Material Analysis
(1) Content Analysis
The topic of this module is choosing presents. The function is inviting and describing birthday parties. The grammar is adverbs of frequency. It develops listening, speaking,reading and writing by asking and stating birthday parties. In Unit 1 it talks about what we usually do on birthday. It finishs by planning a classmate’s birthday party.

二、 Teaching Method Analysis
According to the New Curriculum Standards, the main instruction aim of learning English is to cultivate students’ basic abilities of listening and speaking and their good sense of the English language.
So in this lesson I’ll mainly use the task-based teaching method. That is to say, I’ll let the students learn in real situations to finish the task by making activities such as singing, guessing games, having a competition and so on.
三、 Analysis of Students
These?students??have?come?into?middle?school?recently.?They?are?exposed?to?English?for?the?first?time?,so?it?is very?
important?to?develop?their?keen?interest?in?English?.?It?is?
necessary?to?use?assistant?teaching?methods?to?arouse?their?
attention.
So in this lesson, I’ll encourage them to take an active part in every activity including individual work, pair work, group work and class work, grasp every opportunity to communicate and coordinate with others.
四、 Teaching Procedures
I’ll finish this lesson in six steps
Step 1 Warming up and lead in
1)Today is my birthday, please sing the song to me,Ok?
Sing the song Happy Birthday together.
(It’s important to form a better English learning surrounding by singing and free talk, at the same time, it provides situations for the next step.)
2)Ask students what you can think of when you see “birthday”.
(Make a connection with the old knowledge, lead into the new words by pictures.)
Step 2 Listen and answer a question.
What do we usually do at a Chinese birthday party?
(By answering the question, the students can get a general idea of the passage.)
Step3 Read and check the true sentences
1.It’s Daming’s birthday party on Saturday. ( )
2.Tony never likes birthday parties. ( )
3. Daming’s mother sometimes makes a birthday cake . ( )
4. Daming’s father always sings Happy Birthday. ( )
5 Daming never has birthday presents. ( )
(By reading the passage, we can improve the students’ ability of getting information from the passage.)
During the whole class, I’ll hold a competition. The one who can answer my question correctly and quickly will get a star. It can stimulate students’ ehthusiasm and cultivate their interest in learning English.
Step4 Retelling
At the birthday dinner, we _________eat noodles. My mother ________makes a birthday cake . She usually buys a _________one and I _____it at the party.Tony ________likes birthday parties. Lingling ___________ gives birthday cards.
(By retelling, the students will have a better understanding of the passage and master the adverbs of frequency.)
Step 5 Discussion
Divide them into groups of four. One interviews and the others answer.

C: I often ……
D: I never ……
(By discussing , the students will use what they have learned to express themselves and communicate with each other.)
I’ll choose the best group and presents prizes to them. I think by emphasizing their work, we can arouse their interest in English learning.
Step6 Homework
Write down what you have interviewed.
(At last, I’ll give them some time to summarise what they have learned in this lesson and form the good habit of self-assessment.)
