1. Status and Function
The teaching material is the second period of Section B in Unit 8 When is your birthday ? which is from 2a to 2c.
This period is a reading part, mainly focusing on cultivating students' reading skills (skimming and scanning).
In this period, 2a presents several expressions about activities, which is a good foundation of 2b-2c; 2b is a short notice about school activities, which is aimed at developing students' ability of acquiring the key information from the reading materials ; The goal of 2c (a discussion activity) is to help train students' ability of expressing themselves freely and cooperating with each other.
2. Teaching Objectives
Knowledge objectives:
After this lesson, students should be able to use the new phrases (soccer game, school trip, party, art festival .....) and sentences to talk about the dates of activities and events.
Ability objectives :
Improve students' reading skills.
Develop students' ability to describe their own activities in English.
Emotional objectives:
Arouse students' interests in English and school activities.
Develop their friendship and make them willing to cooperate with their partners.
Strategies objectives:
Use the reading skills(skimming and scanning) to help students aquire the main information while reading.
Cultural awareness:
Understand the different expressions of school activities in China and foreign countries.

To develop students' reading skills and enable them to finish reading tasks individually.

To help students acquire the key information from the reading materials and retell them fluently and confidently.
Part 2 Analysis of Students
Students in 7th grade are so active and energetic that they are willing to participate in classroom activities. Before this lesson, the students have learned the expressions of dates. And the topic of this part(2a-2c) is about school activities which students are very interested in. However, students are not so good at grasping the key information from the reading materials.Thus, the teacher should teach students some important reading skills and encourage them to do more reading practice.

Showing some pictures about school activities in 2a and asking students the quesions like "What is it about ? " "Do you like it?" At the same time, the teacher will write down these phrases.(soccer game... )

The teacher asks students to read the passage again and decide whether the statements are true (T) or false (F). At the same time, the teacher shows the statements on the screen.
The teacher gives students some questions :

Retell the passage based on the chart.
The group representatives will give reports after groups' discussions.
Then, the other groups evaluate their performances.
Finally, the teacher corrects the mistakes appeared in the process and praises their performances.
Step 2 (8 mins)
Discuss the questions with your partners.
What activities from 2b do you like ?
What other activities do you like ?
After the discussions, the teacher asks some students to express the ideas of his / her partners.
Homework
Make a calender about your ideal activities;
