B
After
I
made
it
to
the
city
center,I
started
to
feel
it
might
be
easy
for
a
foreigner
to
deal
with
the
great
size
of
Beijing.
With
growing
confidence,I
decided
to
take
the
subway
to
the
hotel,not
realizing
that
the
network
didn’t
go
that
far.
Impressed
with
the
cleanliness
of
the
station,I
bought
a
ticket
and
boarded
the
first
train
that
came
along.
After
a
few
minutes
I
asked
in
English
of
course
a
young
man
seated
next
to
me
where
I
should
get
off
closest
to
the
Friendship
Hotel.
Wearing
a
smart
business
suit
and
tie,he
would
surely
speak
English,wouldn’t
he?
Unfortunately,he
couldn’t
understand
me
but
seemed
very
friendly.
I
showed
him
the
room
card
with
all
the
information
of
the
Friendship
Hotel
in
Chinese
characters.
He
looked
at
it,and
then
his
eyes
moved
quickly
to
the
carriage
subway
map.
Next,he
raised
three
fingers
of
his
right
hand.
In
Australia,raising
fingers
at
someone
is
not
usually
nice,but
this
man
wasn’t
smiling.
At
the
next
station
he
showed
me
two
fingers.
Now
in
Australia,that’s
really
rude,but
I
got
the
message.
When
we
stopped
at
the
third
station,he
didn’t
just
point
to
the
door,but
got
up,took
me
out
of
the
train,and
led
me
to
the
top
of
the
stairs,and
out
onto
the
street.
Then
he
stopped
a
taxi
and
told
the
driver
where
to
take
me.
All
this
came
from
a
man
who
couldn’t
speak
my
language,and
I
couldn’t
speak
his
.I
was
now
speechless,especially
when
he
refused
my
offer
of
money.
I
felt
a
little
embarrassed
having
even
thought
he
would
accept
a
tip.
This
experience
made
it
clear
that
I
had
to
learn
some
Chinese
quickly
or
my
adventures
might
start
turning
into
bad
luck.

27.The

C
From
the
loss
of
wildlife
to
rising
sea
levels,we’re
all
well
aware
of
the
problems
that
climate
change
could
cause.
But
while
it
may
seem
like
such
issues
won’t
affect
most
of
us
directly,it
looks
like
future
generations
could
grow
up
without
something
that
many
of
us
now
take
for
granted:chocolate.
According
to
an
essay
published
by
the
US
National
Oceanic
and
Atmospheric
Administration,changes
to
the
climate
in
the
regions
that
produce
cacao—the
plant
from
which
chocolate
is
produced—may
mean
that
it
will
soon
become
extinct.
Most
of
the
world’s
cacao
grows
in
countries
close
to
the
equator,with
over
half
of
it
growing
in
the
African
nations
of
Ghana
and
Ivory
Coast.
It’s
predicted
that
by
2050,climate
change
will
have
accelerated
the
rate
at
which
temperatures
in
these
countries
rise,making
it
extremely
difficult
for
cacao
to
grow
there.
The
problem
doesn’t
lie
in
increased
heat,however,but
in
lower
humidity(湿度),as
it’s
believed
that
rainfall
will
stay
at
the
same
level
if
the
temperature
rises.
“In
other
words,as
higher
temperatures
squeeze
more
water
out
of
soil
and
plants,it’s
unlikely
that
rainfall
will
increase
enough
to
offset
the
moisture(含水量)
loss,”
Michon
Scott,the
essay’s
author,wrote.
To
help
fight
this
problem,researchers
from
Berkeley
University
in
the
US
are
working
on
changing
the
DNA
of
cacao
plants
to
allow
them
to
survive
in
dryer
conditions
by
using
gene
editing
technology,according
to
US
News.
In
the
meantime,US
company
Mars,one
of
the
world’s
biggest
manufacturers
of
chocolate
products,announced
in
January
that
it
would
spend
1
billion
to
help
reduce
the
effects
of
climate
change.
“This
is
a
world
issue,and
it
requires
everyone
to
work
together,”
Mars
spokesperson
Barry
Parkin
told
Business
Insider.
The
message
here
is
that
if
we
all
do
our
part,we
may
be
able
to
prevent
some
of
the
worst
impacts
of
climate
change.Or
if
we’re
unlucky,chocolate
will
become
a
thing
of
the
past.
28.What
could
make
it
hard
for
cacao
to
survive
around
the
equator
in
the
future?
A.The
increased
heat
there.
B.The
higher
humidity
there.
C.The
decrease
in
rainfall
there.
D.The
moisture
loss
in
the
soil
there.
29.What
does
the
underlined
word
“offset”
in
the
seventh
paragraph
mean?
A.Hold
back.
B.Make
up
for.
C.Protect.
D.Accept.
30.What
will
US
company
Mars
do
to
help
cacao
survive?
A.It
will
work
hard
to
plant
cacao
in
greenhouses.
B.It
will
apply
gene
editing
technology
in
planting
cacao.
C.It
will
give
financial
support
to
help
fight
climate
change.
D.It
will
develop
cacao
that
can
survive
in
dryer
conditions.
31.What
may
be
the
best
title
for
this
text?
A.Chocolate
Could
Become
History
B.Work
Together
to
Fight
Climate
Change
C.How
Do
We
Grow
Cacao
in
the
Future?
D.How
Do
Cacao
Plants
Affect

Change?
D
According
to
a
recent
study
in
the
Journal
of
Consumer
Research,
both
the
size
and
consumption
habits
of
our
eating
companions
can
influence
our
food
intake.
And
contrary
to
existing
research
that
says
you
should
avoid
eating
with
heavier
people
who
order
large
portions(份),
it’s
the
beanpoles
with
big
appetites
that
you
really
need
to
tavoid.
To
test
the
effect
of
social
influence
on
eating
habits,
the
researchers
conducted
two
experiments.
In
the
first,
95
undergraduate
women
were
individually
invited
into
a
lab
to
ostensibly(表面上)participate
in
a
study
about
movie
viewership.
Before
the
film
began,
each
woman
was
asked
to
help
herself
to
a
snack.
An
actor
hired
by
the
researchers
grabbed
her
food
first.
In
her
natural
state,
the
actor
weighed
105
pounds.
But
in
half
the
cases
she
wore
a
specially
designed
fat
suit
which
increased
her
weight
to
180
pounds.
Both
the
fat
and
thin
versions
of
the
actor
took
a
large
amount
of
food.
The
participants
followed
suit,
taking
more
food
than
they
normally
would
have.
However,
they
took
significantly
more
when
the
actor
was
thin.
For
the
second
test,
in
one
case
the
thin
actor
took
two
pieces
of
candy
from
the
snack
bowls.
In
the
other
case,
she
took
30
pieces.
The
results
were
similar
to
the
first
test:
the
participants
followed
suit
but
took
significantly
more
candy
when
the
thin
actor
took
30
pieces.
The
tests
show
that
the
social
environment
is
extremely
influential
when
we’re
making
decisions.
If
this
fellow
participant
is
going
to
eat
more,
so
will
I.
Call
it
the
“I’ll
have
what
she’s
having”
effect.
However,
we’ll
adjust
the
influence.
If
an
overweight
person
is
having
a
large
portion
(份),
I’ll
hold
back
a
bit
because
I
see
the
results
of
his
eating
habits.
But
if
a
thin
person
eats
a
lot,
I’ll
follow
suit.
If
he
can
eat
much
and
keep
slim,
why
can’t
I?
32.

is
the
recent
study
mainly
about?
A.
Food
safety.
B.
Movie
viewership.
C.
Consumer
demand.
D.
Eating
behavior.

paragraph
1
refer
to?
A.
Big
eaters.
B.
Overweight
persons.
C.
Picky
eaters.
D.
Tall
thin
persons.
34.
Why
did
the
researchers
hire
the
actor?
A.
To
see
how
she
would
affect
the
participants.
B.
To
test
if
the
participants
could
recognize
her.
C.
To
find
out
what
she
would
do
in
the
two
tests.
D.
To
study
why
she
could
keep
her
weight
down.
35.
On
what
basis
do
we
"adjust
the
influence"
according
to
the
last
paragraph?
A.
How
hungry
we
are.
B.
How
slim
we
want
to
be.
C.
How
we
perceive
others.
D.
How
we
feel
about
the

him
about
babysitting
his

and
his
interests
were
far
different
from
mine.
With
no
other
kids
of
my

in
the

I
had
to
spend
hours
by
myself.
A
bright
spot
for
me
turned
out
to

My
love

began
early
as
my
mother
read
to
me
every
evening.
37
I
started
reading
books
on
my
own
before
age
5
and
my
mother
took
me
to
the
public
library
once
a
week
to
borrow
several
books.
I
quickly
graduated
from
typical
children’s
books
to
ones
with
fewer
pictures
and
longer
chapters.
Reading
opened
new
worlds
to
me.

My

to
make

I

I
tried
making
toy
cars
with
cardboard
boxes
and
constructing
buildings
from
leftover
cardboard
and
bits
of
wood
my
father
gave
me.
When
my
mother
saw
my
creations,
she
told
me
how
creative
my
designs
were.
39
I
learned
a
lot
about
how
to
extend
the
life
of
objects
and
transform
them
into
something
new
and
useful.
It
was
a

others
found
helpful,
and
I
soon
had
friends
who
wanted
to

things
with
me.

My
parents
made
it
a
point
for
their

kids
to

time
outside,

the
weather
or
season.
My
brother,
of
course,
raced
off
to
be
with
his
friends,
while
I
had
plenty
to
do
myself.
There
was
making
leaf
houses
in
autumn,
ice
skating
in
winter,
and
so
much
more.
They’re
all
memories
I
treasure
today.

If

from
over

S.
kids
aged
8
to
11
between
2016
and
2017,Jeremy
Walsh,a
postdoctoral
fellow
with
the
CHEO
Research
Institute
in
Ottawa,
found
that
too
much
“screen
time”
could
be
harming
your
child's
intelligence.
Kids
with
the
sharpest
intellects
spent
less
than
two
hours
a
day
on
their
cellophanes,
tablets
and
computers
coupled
with
9
to
11
hours
of
sleep
and
at
least
an
hour
of
physical
activity.
Too
much
screen
time
could
be
affecting
kids
ability
to
focus,
especially
if
they
are
switching
between
apps
on
a
device
or
between
different
screens
at
the
same
time,
Walsh
suggested.

One
leading
theory
is
that
much
time
on
screens
is
spent
multitasking
using
multiple
apps
or
devices
at
once,”
he
said.
“This
can
interfere
with
a
child's
ability
to
focus
and
keep
interest
on
a
task.
It
can
be
damaging
the
building
blocks
for
good
cognition(认知).”
Sleep
is
important
for
brain
development,
since
that's
when
the
brain
reorganizes
itself
and
grows,
Walsh
added.
Besides,
exercise
has
been
shown
to
increase
blood
flow
to
the
brain
and
oxygenation
of
brain
tissues,
and
increases
the
connectivity
of
networks
in
the
brain.
Too
much
screen
time
could
lead
to
a“
cascade”(瀑布)
effect
where
kids
don't
get
enough
sleep
and
then
are
less
active
during
the
day.“
You
can
see
how
this
would
have
an
impact
on
brain
health,”
Walsh
said.
What
should
parents
do?
Walsh
advised
setting
firm
rules
about
the
use
of
screens
including
how
long
children
are
using
the
screens,
the
kinds
of
apps
they
are
using
and
how
many
screens
they
are
using

Concerned

概要写作(25分)
New
research
has
found
that
excessive“screen
time”may
negatively
affect
children's
intelligence.(要点1).
It
prevents
children
from
focusing
and
staying
interested,thus
limiting/restricting
their
cognitive
development.
(要点2)
Also,
it
results
in
inadequate
sleep
and
lack
of
physical
activity,
which
do
harm
to
the
brain
health.
(要点3)
Accordingly,
parents
are
advised
to
establish
strict
regulations
concerning
the
use
of
screens,
monitor
the
contents
and
limit
the
screen
time.(要点4)

the
