On August 27, 1783, the people of the village of Gomesse, in France, looked up into the sky and saw a strange and terrible animal. It was huge and round, flying down from the sky. It landed in the field just outside the village. It was clear to the people of Gomesse that they had to defend themselves. The animal was clearly a kind of terrible “spirit”. With that, the little boy stepped back from the fence, reached down and began rolling up one leg of his trousers. Text 10
Dear Mr Bethune,
Your letter has given me a pleasant surprise. I am very glad you can come to my hometown this summer. I’m looking forward to your coming.
In your letter you asked me about the bird flu situation in my hometown. In fact, the present situation is not so serious as it was months ago, but you should not treat it lightly. I’ll give you some suggestions on your travelling. For one thing, when you go to crowded places you’d better wear a face-mask, which can decrease the chance of infection. For another, do not make yourself too tired during your tour. Finally, wash your hands frequently and particularly after any contact with other bodies. By the way, eating plenty of vegetables is also necessary.
If you do as what I have suggested, I believe you will have a pleasant journey.
Yours,
Faith

23. A

26. A。go wrong
28. D。adding
31. D。in charge of意为“某人负责、管理”,而in the charge of sb.

41. B。根据前面的“One of Canada’s most famous physicians was Dr William Osler”可知他是一位医生(physician)。
42. A。结合下文中的“... and never again did friends hear the songs”,其情景说明他的悲伤的心情,此处是指从他的嗓子发出的甜美的声音不见了(gone)。

66. A。根据第二段中的“The soil is examined for traces of oil.”
68. A
74. A。根据最后一段中的“... the kindness of strangers they met along the way.”

Dear Johnson,
On behalf of the students of Class 20, I write to you to tell you how we feel about your first-week teaching in our class. All of us students think highly of your way of teaching, as you can always make your class lively and interesting. In addition, you are such a learned teacher that we can learn a lot from you and most important of all, you are very patient with us. To be honest, you have built up our confidence in learning English well.
Some of us are still poor at English and need your help. We hope you will speak a little bit slowly so that we can understand you better. Besides, would you please spend more time with us, joining in our after-class activities so that we have more chances to practice our oral English
If you have any difficulties in your life here, just tell us. We are ready to offer you any help.
Yours,
Li Lin
