There are many famous historical relics around the world. Looking after these relics often costs more than one country can afford. In the early 1970s, world governments decided that if they joined together, they would be able to protect our historical relics. If every country paid some money, it would be possible to look after the places. Also, if they discovered that an old temple needed immediate help, they would have money for repairs. For these reasons, countries around the world united to form the World Heritage Organization(世界遗产组织)in 1972. Today, the organization helps to repair and restore the most important places from our history.
Weather, age, traffic and pollution often damage them. However, one of the biggest problems for historic places is vandalism. People sometimes enter the sites and destroy or damage the buildings. At some sites, such as Stonehenge in England, governments have built high fences to protect the site from being destroyed.
There are many different ideas about how to solve the problem of vandalism. Some experts say that if guards guarded the sites more often, vandals would not be able to enter. Some say that if they fixed more television cameras, they would not need so many guards. Other experts say that the best solution is education. If people learned to respect history, they would not destroy or damage it. Instead, they would also want to spend money looking after old places. For this reason, the World Heritage Organization helps to spread information about the value of historical relics.
Besides, war can also destroy them. At 6:15 a.m of February 4, 2011. Cambodian and Thai troops near Preah Vihear temple(柏威夏寺) exchanged fire again. The fight caused many seriously damages to the temple of Preah Vihear, a world heritage. Could it survive another 1000 years Only the future history can tell us.
56. Why did countries all over the world unite to form the World Heritage Organization

A man once said how useless it was to put advertisements in the newspaper. “Last week,” he said, “my umbrella was stolen from a London church. As it was a present, I spent twice its worth in advertising, but didn’t get it back.”
“How did you write your advertisement ” asked one of the listeners, a merchant.
“Here it is,” said the man, taking out of his pocket a slip cut from a newspaper. The other man took it and read, “Lost from the City Church last Sunday evening, a black silk umbrella. The gentleman who finds it will receive ten shillings on leaving it at No. 10 Broad Street.”
“Now,” said the merchant, “I often advertise, and find that it pays me well. But the way in which an advertisement is expressed is of extreme importance. Let us try for your umbrella again, and if it fails, I'll buy you a new one.”
The merchant then took a slip of paper out of his pocket and wrote: “If the man who was seen to take an umbrella from the City Church last Sunday evening doesn’t wish to get into trouble, he will return the umbrella to No.10 Broad Street. He is well known.”
This appeared in the newspaper, and on the following morning, the man was astonished when he opened the front door. In the doorway lay at least twelve umbrellas of all sizes and colors, and his own was among them. Many of them had notes fastened to them saying that they had been taken by mistake, and begging the loser not to say anything about the matter.

“Look! Here come UFOs!” At around 8 p.m., July 26, 2010,a citizen called Lu Shan spotted this special phenomenon in Leshan, Sichuan: three unidentified and bright objects appeared in the sky above “Jade International” building, and then disappeared all together after 10 more minutes.
The phenomenon caught a lot of attention of some experts and Leshan citizens. On August 3, Professor Wang Sichao from the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said, the objects still need to be identified under a comprehensive analysis. And Lu Shan captured some photos of it too. He described, the objects first lit up the sky in the west, but lasted for about 10 minutes , they moved slowly at a speed of 1 meter per minute to the north, and became smaller and smaller until they disappeared. “It was like a sunset before they faded, and their light also became so gentle as the sunset.”
Some citizens doubted they were UFOs, but Lu Shan thinks it was possibly caused by the refraction of the sunlight. However,Lu found no scientific proof to support this special phenomenon after comparing with his photos.
According to Professor Wang Sichao, it could be the “sun dog (幻日) ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com / " \o "欢迎登陆21世纪教育网 )” which is an atmospheric phenomenon that creates bright spots of light in the sky, often in a bright ring or halo on either side of the sun. But he also added the sky above Leshan city that night did not satisfy the conditions to have“sun dog”. “Sun dog” usually happens in cold areas, such as the north and south poles of the earth. “So this phenomenon was strange,” said Wang Sichao. Wang also stated he’s only able to confirm the identity of the objects after collecting and analyzing more information and photos snapped (快拍)from different locations and then decide on a more scientific explanation.
67. What is the text mainly about

27【解析】选A。考查情态动词表猜测。句意: 老板肯定没有告诉工人如何做它,否则事故绝不可能发生。can(could) not/never have done“肯定不,决不可能”,是对过去发生事情的否定猜测;ought to tell 应该告诉;could have+done表示“本能够做某事而实际没有做”; mustn’t do 一定不要做某事,没有mustn’t have done形式。

根据第二段第三句“And Lu Shan captured some photos of it too.”可知D项正确。
