goods,
so
people

clip
and
answer
the
questions.
Why
did
so
many
families
want
to
apply
for
this
TV
reality
show?
In
my
opinion,
people
in
the
21st
century
get
bored
with
the
simple
modern
life
without
a
lot
of
labour-challenging
daily
routine.
They
want
to
challenge
themselves
with
the
hardship
during
the
wartime,
and
experience
a
different
life,
which
may
provoke
their
reflection
upon
their
present
life
or
bring
some
changes
to
their
family
life.
What
is
the
writing
purpose
of
the
reading
passage?
The
writer
wants
to
tell
us
that
we
may
have
different
lifestyles
in
different
times.
Life
today
is
totally
different
from
that
in
the
1940s,
but
modern
technology
is
no
guarantee
of
a
happy
family
life.
Just
like
what
is
written
the
reading
passage
“life
in
the
1940s
wasn't
easy,
but
an
easier
and
more
comfortable
life
doesn't
necessarily
mean
a
better
life.”
Harmonious
family
relationship
is
the
most
important
thing
whatever
times
we
live
in.
II.
Deep

Task
2:
Go
deeper
into
the
text
and
explore
the
differences
in
life
between
the
past
and
the
present
from
five
aspects
with
both
explicit
and
implicit
information
from
the
text.
Lyn’s
time-travel
experiment
In
the
1940s
In
modern
times
Housing
Lyn
lived
in
a
three-bedroomed
house
in
south
London
with
her
family.
It
was
poorly
equipped.
There
were
no
labour-saving
devices,
no
central
heating
or
fridge.
But
luckily,
there
was
a
coal
fire.
She
lives
in
a
modern,
open-plan
house.
The
house
probably
has
rooms
with
different
functions,
such
as
a
living
room,
a
kitchen,
a
dining
room,
a
bathroom
and
bedrooms.
There
may
also
be
a
central
heating
system
in
the
modern
house
and
many
labour-saving
devices,
such
as
a
washing
machine
and
a
microwave.
Personal
safety
Personal
safety
was
a
great
problem
in
the
1940s
because
of
wartime
dangers.
Lyn’s
family
had
to
dig
a
hole
in
their
garden
and
stay
there
to
protect
themselves.
Her
life
is
probably
peaceful.
Since
the
war
ended
a
long
time
ago,
I
think
she
won’t
need
to
worry
about
safety.
Food
There
wasn’t
much
meat
or
milk,
or
many
eggs,
and
the
food
was
really
boring
because
of
the
rationing
of
goods.
People
were
often
hungry
at
that
time.
Children
often
have
snacks,
and
people
are
provided
with
plenty
of
food.
People
can
have
a
variety
of
food
for
meals
every
day,
and
can
also
enjoy
different
cuisines
from
different
countries
at
restaurants.
Daily
routine
Lyn
and
her
daughter
spent
most
of
their
time
preparing
meals,
doing
the
dishes,
cleaning
the
floor
and
boiling
clothes.
It
was
terribly
difficult
for
them
to
do
these
chores.
She
can
finish
the
housework
easily
because
labour-saving
devices
are
widely
used
in
modern
times.
Family
life
Despite
the
difficult
living
conditions,
the
family
grew
closer.
They
shared
the
hard
work
and
spent
more
time
together.
They
were
more
emotionally
connected
with
each
other.
People
are
busy
nowadays,
and
family
members
may
concentrate
more
on
their
own
business
and
have
less
communication.
Task
3:
Work

Listen

a

between
two
students.
Take
some
notes
and
think
about
the
question.
They
are
talking
about
the
daily
routine
of
different
times
In
the
1940s:They
didn’t
have
the
labour-saving
devices;
Lyn
and
her
daughter
had
to
do
a
lot
of
chores;
they
had
to
boil
clothes
to
wash
them.
They
had
to
work
really
long
shifts.
In
modern
times:We
only
need
to
put
the
laundry
in
the
washing
machine;
clean
the
house
with
vacuum
cleaner;
turn
on
the
central
heating
if
it’s
cold.
We
can
do
the
chores
by
simply
pressing
the
button.
We
have
a
better
quality
of
life.
Our
daily
routine
is
much
better
nowadays.
Do
you
agree
with
them?
Why
or
why
not?I
quite
agree
with
them.
Daily
routine
in
the
past
cost
people
too
much
energy
and
time,
while
smart
devices
make
our
modern
life
more
comfortable
and
convenient.
In
their
conversation,
they
illustrated
the
differences
in
life
between
past
and
present
by
giving
examples,
which
are
quite
convincing.
Task
5:
Discuss
the
following
question.
?
Do
you
think
the
advancement
in
household
appliances
will
necessarily
bring
about
a
better
family
life?
There
is
no
denying
that
the
modern
household
appliances
make
our
life
simpler
and
more
convenient,
but
they
rob
us
of
the
affection
among
our
family
members,
because
we
don’t
have
the
chances
to
do
the
things
together.
The
purpose
of
the
1940s
House
experiment
is
to
provide
people
with
an
opportunity
to
rethink
their
family
life
and
retrieve
the
family
love
they
may
lose
by
experiencing
the
hardship
together.
