do
you
prefer?
W:I
think
the
white

is
prettier,
but
the

one
has
a
bigger
yard,
so
I
like
it
better.

the

I
had
the

did
I.
But
it'll
be
OK

we
get

I
need

B
No
poem
should
ever
be
discussed
or
“analysed”,
until
it
has
been
read
aloud
by
someone,
teachers
or
students.
Better
still,
perhaps,
is
the
practice
of
reading
it
twice,
once
at
the
beginning
of
the
discussion
and
once
at
the
end,
so
the
sound
of
the
poem
is
the
last
thing
one
hears
of
it.
All
discussions
of
poems
are,
in
fact,
preparations
for
reading
them
aloud,
and
the
reading
of
a
poem
is,
finally,
the
most
telling
“interpretation”
of
it,
suggesting
tone,
rhythm,
and
meaning
all
at
once.
Hearing
a
poet
read
the
work
in
his
or
her
own
voice,
on
records
or
on
film,
is
obviously
a
special
reward.
But
even
those
aids
to
teaching
cannot
replace
the
student
and
teacher
reading
it
or,
best
of
all,
reciting
it.
I
have
come
to
think,
in
fact,
that
time
spent
reading
a
poem
aloud
is
much
more
important
than
“analysing”
it,
if
there
isn't
time
for
both.
I
think
one
of
our
goals
as
teachers
of
English
is
to
have
students
love
poetry.
Poetry
is
“a
criticism
of
life”,
and
“a
heightening
(提升)
of
life”.
It
is
“an
approach
to
the
truth
of
feeling”,
and
it
“can
save
your
life”.
It
also
deserves
a
place
in
the
teaching
of
language
and
literature
more
central
than
it
presently
occupies.
I
am
not
saying
that
every
English
teacher
must
teach
poetry.
Those
who
don't
like
it
should
not
be
forced
to
put
that
dislike
on
anyone
else.
But
those
who
do
teach
poetry
must
keep
in
mind
a
few
things
about
its
essential
nature,
about
its
sound
as
well
as
its
sense,
and
they
must
make_room
in
the
classroom
for
hearing
poetry
as
well
as
thinking
about
it.
文章说明了朗读诗歌、学习诗歌的重要性。
24.To
have
a
better
understanding
of
a
poem,
one
should
________.
A.discuss
it
with
others
B.analyse
it
by
oneself
C.copy
it
down
in
a
notebook
D.practise
reading
it
aloud
答案:D
解析:根据第一段内容可知答案。
25.Which
of
the
following
is
NOT
mentioned
as
a
function
of
poetry?
A.Extending
your
life.
B.Saving
your
life.
C.Criticising
life.
D.Heightening
life.
答案:A
解析:B、C、D三个选项在第三段中都提到了。
26.According
to
the
writer,
one
of
the
purposes
of
teaching
English
is
to
get
students
________.
A.to
understand
life
B.to
enjoy
poetry
C.to
become
teachers
D.to
become
poets
答案:B
解析:根据文章中第三段第二句话“I
think
one
of
our
goals
as
teachers
of
English
is
to
have
students
love
poetry.”可知答案。
27.The
phrase
“make
room”
in
the
last
paragraph
could
be
best
replaced
by
________.
A.build
a
booth
B.provide
equipment
C.leave
a
certain
amount
of
time
D.set
aside
enough
space
答案:C
解析:根据第三段第一句话“I
have
come
to
think,
in
fact,
that
time
spent
reading
a
poem
aloud
is
much
more
important
than
‘analysing’
it,
if
there
isn't
time
for
both.”可知答案。
C
Many
cities
and
towns
have
laws
that
require
people
to
recycle
paper
and
plastics.
Now
some
states
and
local
governments
have
passed
laws
that
require
citizens
to
recycle
their
food
waste
as
well.
California
and
Vermont
have
statewide
laws
about
recycling
food
waste
that
apply
to
businesses
and
homes.
The
process
of
recycling
food
waste
and
turning
it
into
usable
soil
is
called
composting
(堆制肥料).
Food
waste
that
can
be
composted
includes
fruit
and
vegetable
peels,
coffee
grounds,
tea
bags,
and
eggshells.
Garden
waste
such
as
stems
and
leaves
can
also
be
composted.
Meat,
fish,
and
dairy
food
waste
cannot
be
recycled.
According
to
environmental
groups,
composting
reduces
the
amount
of
trash
going
into
landfills
(垃圾填埋地),
and
composted
waste
holds
a
wide
range
of
nutrients.
When
compost
is
added
to
the
soil
in
gardens
and
fields,
it
helps
crops
grow.
Reducing
the
amount
of
waste
that
goes
into
landfills
is
one
reason
why
cities
and
states
are
passing
foodwaste
recycling
laws.
“Our
landfills
are
far
from
enough
for
the
creation
of
new
ones
is
shrinking.”
Renee
Crowley,
a
project
manager
at
the
Lower
East
Side
Ecology
Center
in
New
York
City,
told
TFK.
Officials
in
Seattle,
Washington,
say
that
food
waste
makes
up
30%
of
the
trash
going
into
landfills,
and
they
are
looking
to
reduce
that
percentage.
That
city
has
a
law
requiring
people
to
recycle
food
waste.
It
is
banned
(禁止)
from
all
garbage.
There
is
a
fine
for
people
who
put
it
into
regular
garbage.
Crowley
points
out
that
even
in
cities
where
food
recycling
is
not
a
law,
there
are
often
places
where
citizens
can
drop
off
their
food
waste
for
composting.
Many
schools
and
colleges
have
also
started
composting
programs.
Those
who
are
against
food?recycling
laws
say
that
the
composting
process
is
costly.
In
addition,
it
can
be
difficult
for
people
who
live
in
apartments
to
store
their
waste
because
they
don't
have
access
to
outside
storage
bins.
Patti
Ferguson
from
Orange
County,
California,
told
her
local
newspaper
that
she
thought
an
indoor
container
containing
food
waste
would
get

第二节:读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Luke
Fortune
drove
from
a
small
town
in
Oregon
to
Portland,
where
he
parked
his
car
in
a
paid
garage
overnight.
The
next
morning,
he
discovered
that
the
car's
window
had
been
broken,
along
with
his
dreams
for
the
future:
His
backpack
and
computer
were
gone.
“Everything
important
to
me
was
on
that
computer,”said
Fortune,
21,
who
is
studying
to
become
a
paramedic
(护理人员).“My
classwork,
every
paper
I'd
written,
and
all
the
programs
I
needed
for
my
tests.
Every
letter
I
was
working
on
for
job
applications.
I
felt
sick.”
Two
days
after
the
theft,
another
young
man
was
standing
outside
his
apartment,
also
in
Portland.
Masoud
Almazrouei,
29,
was
an
exchange
student
from
the
United
Arab
Emirates.
He
had
been
called
by
a
man
who
said
he
had
a
computer
for
sale.
Only
$200.
Almazrouei,
who
had
been
in
the
United
States
for
only
a
year,
admits
now
that
he
was
naive.
But
he
needed
a
computer,
and
he
didn't
have
much
money,_so
he
bought
it,
took
it
home,
and
turned
it
on.
Within
seconds,
he
saw
files
and
photographs.
“I
wondered
who
would
sell
a
computer
with
all
of
those
files
on
it,”
he
said.“I
realized
it
could
be
stolen.”
Almazrouei
found
what
appeared
to
be
the
owner's
cellphone
number
and
called
it.
“This
guy
with
a
thick
accent
told
me
he
had
my
computer,”
Fortune
said.“He
told
me
the
story
and
said
it
was
his
fault.
I
thought
it
was
a
scam
(骗局).
I
told
him
if
he
really
had
the
computer,
he
should
take
it
to
the
police.”
Soon
after,
a
police_officer
called
Fortune
to
say
that
a
man
had
dropped
the
computer
off
and
had
said
he
was
sorry.
He
passed
along
the
man's
number.

Almazrouei
refused.
He
said
it

More
importantly,
he
said,
it

He
regarded
it

houses
we
saw
today,which
do
you
prefer?
W:I
think
the
white
house
is
prettier,
but
the
brick
one
has
a
bigger
yard,
so
I
like
it
better.

M:Have
you
bought
Peter's
birthday
gifts?
W:I've
bought
a
pair
of
football
boots
and
a
shirt,
but
not
the
bicycle
he
wants.

M:I
don't
remember
the
room
being
this
big.
I
had
the
impression
that
it

W:So
did
I.
But
it'll
be
OK
once
we
get
the
furniture
in.

M:Hello.
Is
that
Ms
Black?
I
need
to
get
two
tins

immediately.
W:I'm
afraid
you
have
the

This
is

Sorry.
I
want
Kowloon

M:I'm
afraid

W:I
said
that
we
must
hurry
because
we're
already
late
for
the
film.
It
starts
at

It'll
take
us

W:What
a
beautiful
bike!
Did
you
buy
it
yesterday
when
you
shopped
downtown?
M:No.
It
was
a
birthday
present
from
my
aunt.
W:But
didn't
you
celebrate
your
birthday
last
week?
Why
didn't
you
ride
it?
M:My
aunt
wasn't
in
New
York.
She
forgot
my
birthday.
When
she
remembered,
she
bought
me
a
bike
in
an
online
store.
W:No
wonder
you
got
it
late.
Is
this

W:Why
do
you
keep
smoking
all
the

M:I'm
really
worried
about
my
job
interview.
W:Just
relax.
You
are
a
talented
young
man.You'll
perform
well
in
the
job
interview.
But
you
do
have
a
bad
habit.
M:You
mean
smoking?
W:You
are
right.
If
the
interviewer
sees
you
smoke
like
this,
he
may
not
give
you
the

no
matter
how
well
you
perform.
M:I
don't
often
smoke
like
this.
I
only
do
this
when
I'm
nervous.
W:I
think
you
should
never
smoke
like
this.
Smoking
is
harmful
to
your
health
even
if
you
just
smoke
one
cigarette
one
day.
M:I
have
to
admit
you
are
right.
I'll
try
my
best
to
quit
smoking.

My
stomach

W:She
went

the
supermarket
an
hour
ago.
She'll
be
back
any
minute
now.
M:She
usually
comes
back
within
half
an
hour.
Why
is
she
staying
in
the
supermarket
for
so
long?
W:We
have
a
guest
coming
tomorrow.
She
needs
to
buy
more
food
than
usual.
M:Who
is
coming?
W:One
of
Dad's
colleagues.
M:Why
doesn't
Dad
eat
in
a
restaurant
with
his
colleague?
W:Dad
doesn't
like
the
food
in
a
restaurant.
He
thinks
it's
not
healthy.
It
has
too
much
salt.
M:That's
right.
Mom
cooks
delicious
and
healthy
food.
W:That's
what
Dad's
colleagues
said
each
time
they
had
meals
in
our

I

M:But
I'm
not

at

a

Can

W:You

Winter
is
close.
I

It's

I

B.To

C.To

a
$50
gift
certificate
to
The
Book
Cellar.
D.To
get
a
copy
of
Dr
John
Hildebrand's
book
of
poetry.
B
No
poem
should
ever
be
discussed
or
“analysed”,
until
it
has
been
read
aloud
by
someone,
teachers
or
students.
Better
still,
perhaps,
is
the
practice
of
reading
it
twice,
once
at
the
beginning
of
the
discussion
and
once
at
the
end,
so
the
sound
of
the
poem
is
the
last
thing
one
hears
of
it.
All
discussions
of
poems
are,
in
fact,
preparations
for
reading
them
aloud,
and
the
reading
of
a
poem
is,
finally,
the
most
telling
“interpretation”
of
it,
suggesting
tone,
rhythm,
and
meaning
all
at
once.
Hearing
a
poet
read
the
work
in
his
or
her
own
voice,
on
records
or
on
film,
is
obviously
a
special
reward.
But
even
those
aids
to
teaching
cannot
replace
the
student
and
teacher
reading
it
or,
best
of
all,
reciting
it.
I
have
come
to
think,
in
fact,
that
time
spent
reading
a
poem
aloud
is
much
more
important
than
“analysing”
it,
if
there
isn't
time
for
both.
I
think
one
of
our
goals
as
teachers
of
English
is
to
have
students
love
poetry.
Poetry
is
“a
criticism
of
life”,
and
“a
heightening
(提升)
of
life”.
It
is
“an
approach
to
the
truth
of
feeling”,
and
it
“can
save
your
life”.
It
also
deserves
a
place
in
the
teaching
of
language
and
literature
more
central
than
it
presently
occupies.
I
am
not
saying
that
every
English
teacher
must
teach
poetry.
Those
who
don't
like
it
should
not
be
forced
to
put
that
dislike
on
anyone
else.
But
those
who
do
teach
poetry
must
keep
in
mind
a
few
things
about
its
essential
nature,
about
its
sound
as
well
as
its
sense,
and
they
must
make_room
in
the
classroom
for
hearing
poetry
as
well
as
thinking
about
it.
文章说明了朗读诗歌、学习诗歌的重要性。
24.To
have
a
better
understanding
of
a
poem,
one
should
________.
A.discuss
it
with
others
B.analyse
it
by
oneself
C.copy
it
down
in
a
notebook
D.practise
reading
it
aloud
25.Which
of
the
following
is
NOT
mentioned
as
a
function
of
poetry?
A.Extending
your
life.
B.Saving
your
life.
C.Criticising
life.
D.Heightening
life.
26.According
to
the
writer,
one
of
the
purposes
of
teaching
English
is
to
get
students
________.
A.to
understand
life
B.to
enjoy
poetry
C.to
become
teachers
D.to
become
poets
27.The
phrase
“make
room”
in
the
last
paragraph
could
be
best
replaced
by
________.
A.build
a
booth
B.provide
equipment
C.leave
a
certain
amount
of
time
D.set
aside
enough
space
C
Many
cities
and
towns
have
laws
that
require
people
to
recycle
paper
and
plastics.
Now
some
states
and
local
governments
have
passed
laws
that
require
citizens
to
recycle
their
food
waste
as
well.
California
and
Vermont
have
statewide
laws
about
recycling
food
waste
that
apply
to
businesses
and
homes.
The
process
of
recycling
food
waste
and
turning
it
into
usable
soil
is
called
composting
(堆制肥料).
Food
waste
that
can
be
composted
includes
fruit
and
vegetable
peels,
coffee
grounds,
tea
bags,
and
eggshells.
Garden
waste
such
as
stems
and
leaves
can
also
be
composted.
Meat,
fish,
and
dairy
food
waste
cannot
be
recycled.
According
to
environmental
groups,
composting
reduces
the
amount
of
trash
going
into
landfills
(垃圾填埋地),
and
composted
waste
holds
a
wide
range
of
nutrients.
When
compost
is
added
to
the
soil
in
gardens
and
fields,
it
helps
crops
grow.
Reducing
the
amount
of
waste
that
goes
into
landfills
is
one
reason
why
cities
and
states
are
passing
foodwaste
recycling
laws.
“Our
landfills
are
far
from
enough
for
the
creation
of
new
ones
is
shrinking.”
Renee
Crowley,
a
project
manager
at
the
Lower
East
Side
Ecology
Center
in
New
York
City,
told
TFK.
Officials
in
Seattle,
Washington,
say
that
food
waste
makes
up
30%
of
the
trash
going
into
landfills,
and
they
are
looking
to
reduce
that
percentage.
That
city
has
a
law
requiring
people
to
recycle
food
waste.
It
is
banned
(禁止)
from
all
garbage.
There
is
a
fine
for
people
who
put
it
into
regular
garbage.
Crowley
points
out
that
even
in
cities
where
food
recycling
is
not
a
law,
there
are
often
places
where
citizens
can
drop
off
their
food
waste
for
composting.
Many
schools
and
colleges
have
also
started
composting
programs.
Those
who
are
against
food?recycling
laws
say
that
the
composting
process
is
costly.
In
addition,
it
can
be

Luke
Fortune
drove
from
a
small
town
in
Oregon
to
Portland,
where
he
parked
his
car
in
a
paid
garage
overnight.
The
next
morning,
he
discovered
that
the
car's
window
had
been
broken,
along
with
his
dreams
for
the
future:
His
backpack
and
computer
were
gone.
“Everything
important
to
me
was
on
that
computer,”said
Fortune,
21,
who
is
studying
to
become
a
paramedic
(护理人员).“My
classwork,
every
paper
I'd
written,
and
all
the
programs
I
needed
for
my
tests.
Every
letter
I
was
working
on
for
job
applications.
I
felt
sick.”
Two
days
after
the
theft,
another
young
man
was
standing
outside
his
apartment,
also
in
Portland.
Masoud
Almazrouei,
29,
was
an
exchange
student
from
the
United
Arab
Emirates.
He
had
been
called
by
a
man
who
said
he
had
a
computer
for
sale.
Only
$200.
Almazrouei,
who
had
been
in
the
United
States
for
only
a
year,
admits
now
that
he
was
naive.
But
he
needed
a
computer,
and
he
didn't
have
much
money,_so
he
bought
it,
took
it
home,
and
turned
it
on.
Within
seconds,
he
saw
files
and
photographs.
“I
wondered
who
would
sell
a
computer
with
all
of
those
files
on
it,”
he
said.“I
realized
it
could
be
stolen.”
Almazrouei
found
what
appeared
to
be
the
owner's
cellphone
number
and
called
it.
“This
guy
with
a
thick
accent
told
me
he
had
my
computer,”
Fortune
said.“He
told
me
the
story
and
said
it
was
his
fault.
I
thought
it
was
a
scam
(骗局).
I
told
him
if
he
really
had
the
computer,
he
should
take
it
to
the
police.”
Soon
after,
a
police_officer
called
Fortune
to
say
that
a
man
had
dropped
the
computer
off
and
had
said
he
was
sorry.
He
passed
along
the
man's
number.
