With temperatures finally dropping down to single figures, and the sky turning black before6p.m, it’s pretty unarguable(不容置疑的) that winter has well and truly hit Edinburgh. It’s cold, it's dull, and getting out of bed only gets harder every day, but by investing in these top four winter essentials you can make winter that little bit more bearable.
Flask
Unless you get lucky with the timing of your lectures, too many of us have to brave the early morning starts. When not even the Sun is up, it's pretty hard to drive yourself, and it's much more preferable to keep yourself in bed for as long as possible. But boiling the kettle filling a flask and walking out of the door takes no time at all.
Good Moisturizer
When the cold wind hits, it's your face that takes most of the battering. While your hands and body can be protected with layers of clothing, your face has no such luxury (品) So it's particularly important for both men and women to give it some protection of its own in the form of a moisturizer. I recommend Olay Complete 3-in-i Moisturizer Day Cream to keep your skin soft and smooth.
Magic Gloves
If you don’t know about magic gloves, then you're missing out. They’re full-fingered and just as comfortable as regular gloves, but with the added bonus of still allowing you to use touch-screen phones. They, are readily available on Amazon for low prices. Once you wear magic gloves, you'll never go back.
4. Soup Maker
Soup is another necessity when the winter comes around. Sure, it's easy enough to buy in a supermarket, but most people don't realize how easy it is to make their own soup, and how much cheaper it is All you need is some vegetables and a hand blender. Argos sells one for ust f 4 and with all the parts you could get out of this, there is no excuse not to have one.

Scientists have studied more than two million people for over 40 years and found people were more likely to die on the day when they were born than any other day. So be careful putting out the birthday candles. For example, William Shakespeare died 75 on his birthday on April 23rd, 1616. The actress Ingrid Bergman who fought against the illness strongly also died on her birthday, in August 1982 even though she never gave up.
In general, people over the age of 60 are more likely to pass away on their birthdays. Heart diseases rise 18.6 percent for both men and women. Dr Vladeta Ajdacic Gross ofthe Zurich University said, "Birthdays turning into 76 days happen more often than people expect. "He added that the risk of the birthday death increased as people got older. The olderpeople are. the more danger of the birthday death. A Canadian research also showed that strokes (中风) were more likely to happen on peoples birthdays, especially among old people
There was a 34.9 percent rise in suicides (自杀 ) and a 28.5 percent rise in accidental deaths. Besides, there was also a 44 percent rise in deaths that people 77 buildings on their birthdays. Professor Richard Wiseman of the Hertfordshire University said, "It's a believable finding: There are two groups-one is that people eat too much or are over excited 78 then that causes people to die. The other is that people keep themselves going unhappily before their birthdays' coming. Then they think they have had 79 things in the world on their special days.
Dr Lewis Halsey of the Roehampton University said, "One 80 situation is that more suicides happen on birthdays, but only in men. Perhaps men prefer to make a statement about their difficult life for they think people will take more notice of them on that day.”

Parents often say, “ I don' t understand why my child is acting this way. We’ve given him everything in the world, and he just wants more. He doesn’t (81)n happy. He doesn’t enjoy what he has.”
For some reason, we often feel that if we give our child everything he wants to keep him happy, he should behave the way we want him to An important part of(82) m children’s emotional ( 情感的 ) needs is to set limits often and firmly in a loving way. Parents who learn to set limits in a loving way set them more often because they don’t have to wait until they’ve had it up to here"to do so.
A therapeutic (治疗的) way of setting limits is called ACT: acknowledge ( 承认) the feeling, communicate the limit, and target(把......作为目的) the (83)c . Necessarily, you’re saying to the child, "I understand (84)h you feel. It's OK to feel that way, but you can't act that way when you feel like that. You can act this way when you feel like that. " But it's also important to communicate this message in a loving way, not an (85)a way.
Using ACT limit setting teaches children to cope with their emotions and to find proper behavioral expressions that don't hurt the children (86)t .It can also be used to teach children to delay gratification (满意). Here are some examples of how it works. If your child wants a toy when you're at the store and you don't want to buy it, you can say, "(A) You love that toy and want it right now, (C)but we re not spending any money on toys today. (T) You can put it on your wish list for birthday or Christmas. "Using this skill, you’ll learn to set reasonable limits that work. If you set limits too (87)s , you’re also more likely to give in, because you feel guilty. If you don’t follow through with a result or you make one that's too strict, you teach your child not to believe you.
81.n 82.m 83.c 84.h 85.a 86.t 87.s .
【答案】81.never 82.meeting 83.choice 84.how 85.angry 86.themselves 87.strictly
(T) You can put it on your wish list for birthday or Christmas. 推断出为choice
how 根据上下文大意推断得出,how you feel也是很常用的一种表达方式,“你感受如何”
angry 根据in a loving way,后面这个空应该填写与loving相反意思的词语,推断出填angry
themselves 根据文章大意推断出,该句是说Using ACT limit setting教会了孩子们应对自己的情绪,找到合适的表达方法,这种表达方法不会伤害他们自己。
strictly 严重地,严厉地,严格地,苛刻地,从后文”you make one that's too strict”推断,应该是与”strict”相近地副词。
D. Answer the questions. (根据短文内容回答问题)(12分)
It seems like no one has time for diary writing anymore. With social media sites and online blogs, we are becoming even more used to constant updates on our own and everyone else’s lives, so much so that sharing our most personal thoughts online is turning into a highly normalized practice.
However, sharing personal information online leads to its own set of problems. A recent study discusses how employers use sites such as Facebook to get potential (可能的) employees. It indicates that this trend was becoming a problem for job hunters since some of them used online pages essentially as “personal diary pages.” If keeping a sort of diary is what you are after, then why do you do it online and in such a public fashion given the potential disadvantages? Do blogs and social media sites offer something more than a simple written diary can?
Blogs are very popular at the moment. This year Tumblr alone registered around 150 million users and it is just one of the many places treated by some users as an extended published diary. Blogger Diana M. Rabb even calls the practice of blogging"a public forum of the diary or journal". As Diana points out, blogging still requires a specific theme or focus since it is written with an audience in mind.
Blogging, however, has its own advantages. Editing issues aside, the thrill of your personal reflections receiving almost instant acclaim(称赞 )from online followers is a great boost. Undoubtedly, there is also a real therapeutic aspect to simply writing. As early as 1982, an article in the British Medical Journal detailed the treatment of some minor psychotic disorders(轻微的精神病) which involved patients keeping diaries between therapy sessions(治疗时期) so as to give them some sense of “mastery” over their treatment.
Is it usual for people to share personal thoughts online now? (1 分)
89. What was becoming problematic for job hunters? (2分)
Blog and social media sites only offer something that a simple written diary can, don’t they? (2分)
91. How many users did Tumblr register this year? (2分)
Why does Rabb point out that blogging still requires a specific theme or focus? (2分)

Do you like sharing your own thoughts on blogs? Why or why not? (3分)
【答案】

They worried that employee might used online pages essentially as “personal diary pages” .
No, they don’t.
Around 150 million users.
