“I'm going to miss you so much, Poppy,” said the tall boy to his dog. Then he stood up, hugged his parents, and smiled, trying not to show his emotions (情绪). His parents were not quite able to keep theirs under control.

Are we alone in the universe? People have always wondered whether there is (or was) life on other planets. Since the 1960s, NASA has been interested in finding out more about Mars. In 1975, NASA sent two spacecraft (航天器) — Viking 1 and Viking 2 — to Mars. They landed in 1976. The spacecraft sent pictures back to Earth from the surface (表面) of the planet.
In 2001, NASA sent another spacecraft to Mars. Mars Odyssey entered Mars's orbit (轨道) on 24th October 2001. The spacecraft flew around the planet and sent pictures back to NASA scientists. Odyssey found that Mars has ice under its surface. That indicates that Mars had lakes and rivers in the past. If there was water, there might also have been life.????
On 26th November 2011, NASA sent another spacecraft called Curiosity to Mars. It landed on Mars on 5th August 2012. Curiosity's job is to check whether there has ever been life on Mars and to study more about the planet. Curiosity has many instruments to help it finish its job. Since landing on the planet, Curiosity has sent a lot of information to NASA scientists. They now have further information to support (支持) the idea that there could have been life on Mars in the past.

Frankie Chu was a cool dad. He lived and worked in New York City with his wife Karen and his daughters Ariel and Petrina. One day, as Frankie was about to leave for work, the telephone rang. As a result of the phone call, Frankie missed his train, and he was going to be late for his meeting at the World Trade Centre. It was 11th September 2001.
The World Trade Centre was taken down that morning by terrorists (恐怖分子), and many people died. Frankie felt sorry for them and at the same time he felt that he should do something more with his life. Several weeks later, Frankie left his job and returned to Hong Kong with his family. He decided it was time to follow his dream.
Frankie had been interested in computers and education for a long time, so he started his own educational software (软件) company. He did all he could to help improve children's thinking skills. On 15th March 2003, Frankie got on a plane to Beijing, China. One of the passengers on the plane was sick with an illness called SARS. The sickness spread (传播) to 18 other passengers, including Frankie himself. The illness had already made many people dead in Hong Kong and elsewhere.
Ariel, Petrina, and their mother were afraid, but they were inspired (激励) by their father's example. While their father was in hospital, the daughters started writing him poems and drawing pictures, naming them “Wishing Daddy to Come Home”. Unluckily, Frankie never came home.
The daughters put together a book about their father called Too Nice to be Forgotten. It went on sale in December 2003, and has been reprinted several times.
