this
passage
probably
come
from?
A.
A
news
report.
B.
A
science

C.
A
nature

D.
A
tourist
guide.
B
Attitudes
toward
new
technologies
often
fall
along
generational
lines.
That
is,
generally,
younger
people
tend
to
outnumber
older
people
in
face
of
a
new
technology.
It
is
not
always
the
case,
though.
When
you
look
at
attitudes
toward
driverless
cars,
there
doesn’t
seem
to
be
a
clear
generational
divide.
The
public
overall
disagree
on
whether
they’d
like
to
use
a
driverless
car.
In
a
study
last
year,
of
all
people
surveyed,48
percent
said
they
wanted
to
ride
in
one,
while
50
percent
did
not.
The
fact
that
attitudes
toward
self?driving
cars
appear
to
be
so
steady
across
generations
suggests
how
transformative
the
shift
to
driverless
cars
could
be.
Not
everyone
wants
a
driverless
car
now—and
no
one
can
get
one
yet—but
among
those
who
are
open
to
them,
every
age
group
is
similarly
included.
When
it
comes
to
driverless
cars,
differences
in
attitude
are
obvious
based
on
factors
not
related
to
age.
College
graduates,
for
example,
are
particularly
interested
in
driverless
cars
compared
with
those
who
have
less
education:
59
percent
of
college
graduates
said
they
would
like
to
use
a
driverless
car
compared
with
38
percent
of
those
with
a
high?school
diploma
or
less.
Where
a
person
lives
matters,
too.
More
people
who
lived
in
cities
and
suburbs
said
they
wanted
to
try
driverless
cars
than
those
who
lived
in
rural
areas.
While
there’s
reason
to
believe
that
interest
in
self?driving
cars
is
going
up,
a
person’s
age
will
have
little
to
do
with
how
self?driving
cars
can
become
mainstream.
Once
driverless
cars
are
really
available
for
sale,
the
early
adopters
will
be
the
people
who
can
afford
to
buy
them.
24.
What
usually
happens
when
a
new
technology
appears?
A.
It
benefits
society
greatly.
B.
The
old
are
not
happy
with
it.
C.
People
of
different
ages
respond
differently.
D.
It
will
separate
the
old
from
the
young.
25.
What
does
the
author
say
about
the
driverless
car?
A.
It
makes
people’s
life
more
convenient.
B.
It
can
lead
to
fewer
road
accidents.
C.
It
may
start
a
change
in
the
car
industry.
D.
It
does
not
seem
to
create
a
generational
divide.
26.
What
is
likely
to
affect
a
person’s
attitude
towards
the
driveless
car?
A.
The
field
of
his
special
interest.
B.
The
location
of
his
living
place.
C.
The
amount
of
his
driving
training.
D.
The
length
of
his
driving
experience.
27.
Who
are
the
most
potential
customers
of
the
driverless
car?
A.
The
seniors.
B.
The
wealthy.
C.
The
educated.
D.
The
car
lovers.
C
The
bed
should
be
reserved
as
a
place
for
sleep,
but
people
tend
to
read
an
iPad
a
lot
in
bed
before
they
go
to
sleep.
Charles
Czeisler,
a
professor
at
Harvard
Medical
School,
and
his
colleagues
got
a
small
group
of
people
for
an
experiment.
For
five
days
in
a
row,
the
people
read
either
a
paper
book
or
an
iPad
for
four
hours
before
sleep.
Their
sleep
patterns
were
monitored
all
night.
Before
and
after
each
trial
period,
the
people
took
hourly
blood
tests
to
paint
a
day-long
picture
of
just
how
much
melatonin(褪黑激素)was
in
their
blood
at
any
given
time.
When
subjects
read
on
the
iPad
as
compared
to
the
paper
books,
they
reported
feeling
less
sleepy
at
night
and
less
active
the
following
morning.
People
also
took
longer
to
fall
asleep
on
the
iPad
nights,
and
the
blood
tests
showed
that
their
melatonin
secretion(分泌)was
delayed
by
an
hour
and
a
half.
The
researchers
conclude
in
today's
journal
article
that
gives
the
rise
of
e-readers
and
the
increasingly
widespread
use
of
e-things
among
children
and
adolescents,
more
research
into
the
“long-term
consequences
of
these
devices
on
health
and
safety
is
urgently
needed.”
Czeisler
and
colleagues
go
on,
in
the
research
paper,
to
note
“Reading
an
iPad
in
bed
may
increase
cancer
risk.”
However,
software
has
been
developed
that
can
reduce
some
of
the
blue
light
from
the
screens
of
phones
and
computers
according
to
time
of
day,
and
there
are
also
glasses
that
are
made
to
filter(过滤)short
wavelengths.
While
they
seem
like
a
logical
solution
for
the
nighttime
tech
users,
it
needs
more
research.
28.
In
Charles
Czeisler’s
experiment,
all
the
subjects
were
asked
to
______.

in
a
row
and

strict
tests
B.
have
their
sleep
patterns
observed
all
night
C.
read
a
paper
book
and
an
iPad
at
the
same
time
D.
have
their
blood
tested
per
hour
during
the
trial
29.
The
third
paragraph
tells
us
the
iPad
readers
were
likely
to
______.
A.
feel
less
sleepy
and
tired
in
the
day
B.
fall
asleep
more
easily
after
reading
C.
have
a
lot
more
melatonin
secretion
D.
become
less
energetic
the

software
recently
developed

weaken
the
harm
done
by
doing
nighttime
e-reading
D.
be
used
in
all
the
e-things
widely
and

31.
What's
this
passage
mainly
about?
A.
No
e-reading
in
bed
before
sleep
B.
New
software
for
night
e-readers
C.
Wrong
behaviors
before

Christopher
Thomas,
27,
was
a
writer
by
night
and
a
teacher
by
day
when
he
noticed
he
was
always
tired
and
was
losing
weight
fast.
Diagnosed
with
diabetes(糖尿病),Thomas
would
need
to
inject
himself
with
insulin(胰岛素)three
times
a
day
for
the
rest
of
his
life
or
risk
nerve
damage,
blindness,
and
even
death.
And
if
that
weren’t
bad
enough,
he
had
no
health
insurance.
After
a
month
of
feeling
upset,
Thomas
decided
he’d
better
find
a
way
to
fight
back.
He
left
Canton,
Michigan
for
New
York,
got
a
job
waiting
tables,
nicknamed
himself
the
Diabetic
Rockstar,
and
created
diabeticrockstar.com,
a
free
online
community
for
diabetics
and
their
loved
ones—a
place
where
over
1,100
people
share
personal
stories,
information,
and
resources.
Jason
Swencki’s
son,
Kody,
was
diagnosed
with
type
diabetes
at
six.
Father
and
son
visit
the
online
children’s
forums
together
most
evenings.
“Kody
gets
so
excited,
writing
to
kids
from
all
over,”
says
Swencki,
one
of
the
site’s
volunteers.
“They
know
what
he’s
going
through,
so
he
doesn’t
feel
alone.”
Kody
is
anything
but
alone:
Diabetes
is
now
the
seventh
leading
cause
of
death
in
the
United
States,
with
24
million
diagnosed
cases.
And
more
people
are
being
diagnosed
at
younger
ages.
These
days,
Thomas’s
main
focus
is
his
charity,
Fight
It,
which
provides
medicines
and
supplies
to
people—225
to
date—who
can’t
afford
a
diabetic’s
huge
expenses.
Fight?it.org
has
raised
about
$23,000—in
products
and
in
cash.
In
May,
Thomas
will
hold
the
first
annual
Diabetic
Rockstar
Festival
in
the
Caribbean.
Even
with
a
staff
of
22
volunteers,
Thomas
often
devotes
up
to
50
hours
a
week
to
his
cause,
while
still
doing
his
full?time
job
waiting
tables.
“Of
the
diabetes
charities
out
there,
most
are
putting
money
into
finding
a
cure,”
says
Bentley
Gubar,
one
of
Rockstar’s
original
members.
“But
Christopher
is
the
only
person
I
know
saying
people
need
help
now.”

Is
Dieting
OK
for
Kids?
You
may
know
some
adults
and
kids
who
worry
about
their
weight
and
say
they
are
going
on
a
diet.
You
might
wonder
if
you
should
be
on
a
diet,
too.
56.
▲____
Why?
Let’s
find
out.
Dieting
to
Lose
Weight
57.
▲
When
someone
diets
to
lose
weight,
the
person
is
trying
to
eat
fewer
calories
than
the
body
uses.
By
doing
this,
the
person
may
lose
body
fat
and
decrease
his
or
her
weight.
Similarly,
if
a
person
eats
more
calories
than
the
body
uses,
the
person
may
gain
weight.
Kids
usually
do
not
need
to
diet
in
this
way.
58.
▲
During
this
time,
kids
need
many
kinds
of
healthy
foods
to
keep
their
bodies
growing
properly.
Some
kids
are
overweight,
but
even
overweight
kids
often
can
improve
their
health
simply
by
eating
nutritious
foods
and
being
more
active.
59.
▲
But
kids
may
hurt
their
health
even
more
by
doing
something
extreme,
like
skipping
meals
or
deciding
to
eat
only
vegetables.
Who
Needs
to
Diet?
Though
some
people
may
feel
they
weigh
too
much
or
too
little,
there
is
no
perfect
body
shape.
Some
people
have
bigger
bones
and
will
always
look
bigger
and
heavier
than
people
with
smaller
bones.
60.
▲
Your
doctor
can
examine
you
and
check
your
body
mass
index
(身体质量指数).
That’s
a
way
of
estimating
how
much
body
fat
you
have.
If
the
doctor
is
concerned
about
your
weight,
he
or
she
can
recommend
a
couple
of
goals.
For
some
kids,
the
doctor
may
recommend
losing
some
weight,
but
this
should
be
done
with
the
doctor’s
help.
Kids
who
need
to
lose
weight
may
visit
with
a
dietitian
who
can
explain
how
to
reduce
calories
safely
while
still
getting
all
the
necessary
nutrients.
A.
It
is
important
to
form
a
good
eating
habit.
B.
Being
overweight
can
cause
health
problems.
C.
Not
eating
properly
can
be
very
harmful
to
kids.
D.
Unlike
adults,
kids
are
still
growing
and
developing.
E.
Talk
to
your
doctor
if
you
have
questions
about
your
weight.
F.
All
foods
and
many
drinks
contain
calories,
a
kind
of
energy.
G.
However,
most
of
kids
do
not
need
to
and
should
not
diet
this
way.

Certainly.
We

a

W:
Well,

we

So,
I

the
ad
in
the
newspaper
says
that
it
has
four

and

bathrooms...
just
what
I
need
for
my

May
I
ask
how

for
it?
W:
I

a

over
the

but
let’s

it’s
in
the

$500,000.
I
would
also
require
$100,000
in

Why
don’t
you
come

and
take
a

M:
Well,
I’m
not
sure
I’d
be
able
to
pay
so
much
at
once,
but
I
guess
it
wouldn’t
hurt
to
see
the

If
you
can

Can
you
imagine
how
good
that

W:
I
know
what
you

But
it’s
just
so
convenient
to
drive.
Every
day,
I
think
I
should
take
the
subway,
but
I
always
end
up
driving.
M:
Yes,
but
when
everyone
does
that,
it
causes
pollution.
W:
Well,
maybe
if
I
sold
my
car,
I
would
be
able
to
change
my
habits.
And
think
of
all
the
money
I
could
save
on
gas,
insurance,
and
repairs.
M:
Yeah,
and
you
could
get
some
exercise.
I
always
ride
my
bike
to
work.
I
feel
so
healthy
now
that
I
needn’t
go
to
the
gym.
W:
It
would
be
good
to
get
back
in
shape(健康状况良好).
I’m
so
lazy
now;
I
never
walk
anywhere.
M:
Let’s
go

the
used
car
market(二手汽车市场).
I’ll
bet
we
could
get
a
good
price
for
your
car.

Sounds
good.
But
I
have
to

to

for
my
weekly
grocery
shopping.

【解析】
本文是一篇说明文。一些成年人和孩子担心自己的体重,会通过节食来减肥。文章叙述了孩子们通常不需要节食,小孩节食的后果,什么人需要节食以及担心体重问题可以咨询医生等。
【56题详解】
根据上文“You
may
know
some
adults
and
kids
who
worry
about
their
weight
and
say
they
are
going
on
a
diet.
You
might
wonder
if
you
should
be
on
a
diet,
too.”可知,一些成年人和孩子担心自己的体重,想要节食。再结合下文,叙述了孩子们通常不需要这样节食,小孩节食的后果,什么人需要节食等,推知空白处是转折部分,建议小孩不应该节食。G.
However,
most

kids
do
not
need
to
and
should
not
diet
this
way.“但是大多数孩子不需要也不应该这样节食。”切题。故选G项。
【57题详解】

weight,
the
person
is
trying

All
foods
and
many
drinks
contain
calories,
a
kind
of
energy.(所有的食物和饮料都含有卡路里——一种能量。)承接自然,前后两句是因果关系。因为所有的食物和饮料都含有卡路里,所以节食时,人试图摄入比身体消耗的更少的卡路里,即涉入更少的食物。故选F项。
【58题详解】
由上一句“Kids
usually
do
not
need
to
diet
in
this
way.孩子们通常不需要这样节食。”和下一句“During
this
time,
kids
need
many
kinds
of
healthy
foods
to
keep
their
bodies
growing
properly.在这段时间里,孩子们需要多种健康的食物来保持身体的正常生长。”可知,孩子不需要节食,因为孩子与成年人不同,还在长身体,需要多种健康的食物保持身体的正常生长,由此推测设空处应起承上启下的作用。D
Unlike
adults,
kids
are
still
growing
and
developing.
“与成人不同,孩子们仍在成长和发展。”切题。故选D项。
【59题详解】
由上一句“Some
kids
are
overweight,
but
even
overweight
kids
often
can
improve
their
health
simply
by
eating
nutritious
foods
and
being
more
active.有些孩子体重超标,但即使是超重的孩子,只要吃有营养的食物,多运动,就能改善他们的健康。”和下一句“But
kids
may
hurt
their
health
even
more
by
doing
something
drastic(
极端的),
like
skipping
meals
or
deciding
to
eat
only
vegetables.但是孩子们做一些极端的事情,比如不吃饭或者决定只吃蔬菜,可能会对他们的健康造成更大的伤害。”可知,设空处应起承上启下的作用,B.

cause
health
problems.

weight,
he
or
she
can
