The
future
of
written
English
will
owe
more
to
Hollywood
films
than
Dickens
or
Shakespeare,
if
the
findings
of
a
study
into
children's
writing
are
anything
to
go
by.
Researchers
who
looked
at
the
entries
to
a
national
competition
found
they
were
increasingly
using
American
words
such
as
garbage,
trash
can,
sidewalk,
candy,
sneakers,
soda,
and
flashlight.
The
stories,
written
by
pupils
aged
7
to
13,
show
how
fairy
cakes
are
referred
to
as
cupcakes
and
a
dinner
jacket
has
become
a
tuxedo.
“Smart”
is
now
often
used
for
“clever”
and
“cranky”
for
“irritable”.
Television
also
has
a
powerful
influence
on
children's
work,
with
Lady
Gaga
and
Argentinean
footballer
Lionel
Messi
among
the
famous
names
from
TV
cropping
up
repeatedly.
But
pupils
are
let
down
by
basic
spelling,
punctuation
and
grammar,
according
to
the
study
by
Oxford
University
Press
(OUP),
which
looked
at
the
entries
to
BBC
Radio
Two's
“500
Words”
competition.
Children
struggled
to
correctly
spell
simple
words
such
as
“does”
and
“clothes”
and
often
failed
to
use
the
past
tense
correctly,
frequently
writing
“rised”
instead
of
“rose”
or
“thinked”
instead
of
“thought”.
Researchers
also
found
that
punctuation
was
underused,
especially
semi?colons
and
speech
marks.
Some
did
not
know
how
to
use
capital
letters.
However,
exclamation
marks
were
overused.
Researchers
found
35,171
examples
in
total,
with
some
young
writers
using
five
at
a
time!
Popular
US
fiction
such
as
the
Twilight
novels
and
films
is
thought
to
be
fueling
the
increasing
use
of
American
vocabulary
and
spelling.
Meanwhile,
fears
that
texting
was
corrupting
children's
written
work
were
unfounded,_they
said,
with
youngsters
only
using
text
language
when
they
were
referring
to
a
text
message.
Samantha
Armstrong
from
OUP
said:
“Perhaps
we
are
catching
a
glimpse
of
the
language
of
the
future.”
Chris
Evans,
whose
radio
show
runs
the
competition,
said
the
results
were
“fascinating”,
adding:
“Who'd
have
thought
that
Messi
and
Gaga
would
be
some
of
the
most
used
names?”
28.According
to
the
passage,

English?

of
the
following
was
NOT
frequently
found
in
the
pupils'
stories?
A.Text
message
language.
B.A
variety
of
Americanisms.
C.Overuse
of
exclamation
marks.
D.Names
of
famous
TV
stars.
30.What
can
we
infer
from
the
passage?
A.Lionel
Messi
is
now
the
most
famous
footballer
in
Britain.
B.American
movies
and
books
are
increasingly
popular
in
Britain.
C.The
national
writing
competition
is
organised
by
Oxford
University
Press.

English

influenced
by

US

The
room
in
which
the

a
large
pot
at
one
end.
The
master,
helped
by
two
women,
served
the
soup

this
pot
at
meal
times.
Each
boy
was
allowed
one
bowl

washing,

the
boys
cleaned
them

their

his
eye.
He
told
his

If

more
food

supper

evening.
They
wrote
their
names
on
pieces
of
paper
and
picked
one
out.
It
was
Oliver
Twist
who
was
chosen.
In
the
evening,
the
boys
sat
down
at
the
tables.
The
master
stood
by
the
pot,
and
the
soup
was
served.
It
disappeared
quickly.
The
boys
whispered
and
made
signs
to
Oliver.
He
stood
up
from
the
table
and
went
to
the
master,
with
his
bowl
and
spoon
in
his
hand.
“Please
sir,”
he
said,“I
want
some
more.”
The
master
was
a
fat,
healthy
man,
but
he
went
very
pale.
“What?”
said
the
master
at
last
in
a
quiet
voice.
“Please,
sir,”
replied
Oliver,
“I
want
some
more.”
The
master
hit
Oliver
with
his
spoon,
then
seized
him
and
cried
for
help.
Mr.
Bumble
rushed
into
the
room,
and
the
master
told
him
what
Oliver
had
said.“
He
asked
for
more?”
Mr.
Bumble
cried.
“I
cannot
believe
it.
One
day
they
will
hang
the
boy.”
He
took
Oliver
away
and
shut
him
in
a
dark
room.
The
next
morning
a
notice
appeared
on
the
workhouse
gate.
Five
pounds
were
offered
to
anybody
who
would
take
Oliver
Twist.

阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
In
the
depths
of
my
memory,
many
things
I
did
with
my
father
still
live.
These
things
come
to
represent,
in
fact,
what
I
call
__41__
and
love.
I
don't
remember
my
father
ever
getting
into
a
swimming
pool.
But
he
did
__42__
the
water.
Any
kind
of
__43__
ride
seemed
to
give
him
pleasure.
__44__
he
loved
to
fish;
sometimes
he
took
me
along.
But
I
never
really
liked
being
on
the
water,
the
way
my
father
did.
I
liked
being
__45__
the
water,
moving
through
it,
__46__
it
all
around
me.
I
was
not
a
strong
__47__,
or
one
who
learned
to
swim
early,
for
I
had
my
__48__.
But
I
loved
being
in
the
swimming
pool
close
to
my
father's
office
and
__49__
those
summer
days
with
my
father,
who
__50__
come
by
on
a
break.
I
needed
him
to
see
what
I
could
do.
My
father
would
stand
there
in
his
suit,
the
__51__
person
not
in
swimsuit.
After
swimming,
I
would
go
__52__
his
office
and
sit
on
the
wooden
chair
in
front
of
his
big
desk,
where
he
let
me
__53__
anything
I
found
in
his
top
desk
drawer.
Sometimes,
if
I
was
left
alone
at
his
desk
__54__
he
worked
in
the
lab,
an
assistant
or
a
student
might
come
in
and
tell
me
perhaps
I
shouldn't
be
playing
with
his
__55__.
But
my
father
always
__56__
and
said
easily,
“Oh,
no,
it's
__57__.”
Sometimes
he
handed
me
coins
and
told
me
to
get
__58__
an
ice
cream...
A
poet
once
said,“We
look
at
life
once,
in
childhood;
the
rest
is
__59__.”
And
I
think
it
is
not
only
what
we
“look
at
once,
in
childhood”
that
determines
our
memories,
but
__60__,
in
that
childhood,
looks
at
us.

Let's
go

if
I

some
appropriate

for
us.

Is

Yes,
I'll

W:
Can
you

M:
It's
already
very
cheap.
Let's
make
it
6,000
yuan.
That's
as
cheap
as
it
can
get.
W:
All
right,
I'll
buy
this
one.
Can
I
pay
using
a

Sorry,
you
can

We

Would
you

M:
That's

M:
So,
are
you
enjoying
the
performance?
W:
Well,
the
costumes
and
the
sets
are
splendid,
but
the
acting
is
a
bit
stiff.
What
do
you
think?
M:
I
think
you
are
being
a
little
critical.
The
actor
in
the
lead
role
is
fantastic.
I
suppose
the
chorus
could
be
a
little
better,
though.
W:
Do
you
know
anyone
in
the
play?
M:
Actually,
the
woman
playing
Ophelia
is
a
past
classmate
of
mine.
W:
Really?
Is
that
why
you
wanted
to
come
to
the
play?
M:
That's
only
part
of
it.
I
absolutely
adore
the
director.
Every
play
he
works
on
turns
out
great.
W:
So
you've
seen
other
plays
that
he's
directed?
M:
Quite
a
few
actually.
By
the
way,
after
the
play,
there's
always
a
big
party
for
the
cast
and
their
friends.
My
friend
has
invited
us.
Do
you

Sure,

W:

M:In

many
people
go
to
Yunnan
Nationalities
Villages
at
first
when
they
come
to
Yunnan
for
the
first
time.
W:
Why
do
they
go
there?
M:
Because
26
kinds
of
minority
peoples
live
there,
and
the
arts
and
handicrafts
of
minority
peoples
are
splendid
indeed.
W:
I
think
that
will
be
interesting.
M:
And
you
can
buy
some
souvenirs
there.
W:
Which
is
the
second
place
we
should
go
to?
M:
It'll
be
the
Dian
Lake
and
Western
Hills.
We
can
go
sightseeing
on
the
Dian
Lake
by
boat,
and
at
the

we
can
take
the
cableway
to
the

W:
What's
the

on

The
Stone

anything

W:
Well,
yes,
there
is
something
wrong
actually.
Perhaps
you
can
give
me
some
advice.
M:
Of
course,
if
I
can.
W:
Well,
last
night
when
I
returned
from
the
theatre,
I
found
that
I'd
lost
my
wallet.
M:
Oh
dear!
That's
terrible!What
was
in
your
wallet?
W:
Well,
some
money,
of
course,
my
visa,
my
identity
card
and
some
photos.
M:
Well,
if
I
were
you,
I'd
go
to
the
police
station
straight
away
and
report
it.
W:
Yes,
I've
already
done
that,
and
they
said
they'd
look
for
it.
But
we're
leaving
soon
and
I
need
my
visa
and
identity
card
badly.
M:
Oh
dear!What
a
pity!Are
you
sure
you
lost
the
wallet
in
the
theatre?
W:
Yes,quite
sure.
M:
I
think
you
should
put
an
advertisement
in
a
newspaper,saying
when
and
where
you
lost
it.
W:
But
that
takes
too
long.
M:
Wait
a
minute!
My
uncle
lives
in
Beijing
and
he
lives
very
close
to
the
theatre.
I'll
telephone
him
and
ask
him
to
go
there
to
inquire
about
it.
You'd
better
have
breakfast
now
and
I'll
meet
you
later.
W:
Oh,
thank
you.
I
hope
he
will
find
it.

When
Jackie
Robinson
walked
onto
Ebbets
Field
in
Brooklyn,
New
York,
on
April
15,
1947,
he
changed
baseball
forever.
As
the
first
African
American
to
play
in
the
Major
League
in
modern
times,
many
believe
he
changed
the
country
forever.
Robinson
was
born
in
1919.
He
lived
in
a
time
when
rules
controlled
what
African
Americans
could
do.
He
was
a
top
athlete,
playing
football,
basketball
and
baseball.
But
playing
for
a
Major
League
team
was
off
limits
to
Robinson
because
of
his
race.
Branch
Rickey,
president
and
manager
of
the
Brooklyn
Dodgers,
signed
Robinson
in
1947.
He
believed
that
Robinson
not
only
had
the
skills,
but
the
courage
to
face
the
challenge
of
becoming
modern
baseball's
first
black
player.
It
wasn't
easy.
Robinson
sometimes
faced
shouts
of
laugh
and
disapproval
from
fans.
But
he
became
a
star,
anyway.
In
1962,
he
became
the
first
African?American
player
chosen
to
enter
the
Baseball
Hall
of
Fame.
In
2005,
he
was
awarded
a
Congressional
Gold
Medal,
the
highest
award
Congress
can
give
to
an
American.
By
breaking
baseball's
color
barrier,
Robinson
opened
the
door
for
many
to
follow
his
footsteps,
not
only
in
baseball,
but
in
other
areas
of
life
as
well.
After
he
stopped
playing
the
game,
Robinson
worked
as
a
manager
for
a
coffee
company.
He
wrote
a
newspaper
column.
He
also
started
a
bank.

第二节
参考范文
Dear
Editor,
I'm
writing
to
tell
you
about
the
discussion
we
recently
had
about
how
to
deal
with
bad
behaviors
in
public,
like
smoking
and
spitting.
This
is,
to
remind
or
to
fine.
The
majority
of
us
are
for
reminders.
They
think
that
those
who
have
done
something
wrong
may
not
have
noticed
the
warning
signs.
And
reminders
will
surely
help
them
to
realize
their
mistakes
and
correct
them
willingly.
However,
the
others
think
these
people
should
be
fined
because,
generally
speaking,
people
will
not
learn
to
obey
rules
unless
they
are
taught
a
lesson.
What's
more,
those
who
go
against
the
rules
are
usually
frequent
wrong?doers.
Reminders
won't
work
on
them
any
longer.
Meanwhile
they
suggest
these
people
should
be
fined
properly.
