B
My
name
is
Deirdre
Veneracion
and
I
am
a
paraglider
(滑翔伞)
pilot.
I’ve
been
paragliding
since
I
was
11.
My
dad
and
I
arrive
at
our
local
fly
site
on
a
June
morning.
We
meet
our
instructor
and
spend
the
first
20
minutes
watching
the
wind
cycles.
I
go
through
my
pre-flight
steps
and
turn
on
my
radio.
At
last,
I
take
a
step
and
feel
the
ground
under
me
fall
away.
I
feel
the
pressure
of
my
weight
on
the
canopy
(伞衣).
After
15
minutes
of
playing
with
the
wind,
my
father
radios
me
from
the
place
where
he
is
about
to
take
off.
“How
is
the
wind?”
“Perfect!”
I
say.
Dad
takes
off
behind
me.
I
have
done
almost
100
flights
and
yet
every
flight
amazes
me
just
as
much
or
even
more
than
my
first
flight.
I
love
the
unpredictability
of
each
flight.
Every
flight
is
different.
After
15
minutes,
I
decide
to
land.
Now,
I’m
over
a
rice
field.
It
is
a
much
smaller
landing
than
most
landing
zones
but
it’s
possible.
Out
of
nowhere,
I
feel
my
canopy
becomes
unstable.
It
loses
pressure
and
falls
directly
in
front
of
me.
I
am
falling.
I
have
butterflies
in
my
stomach.
I
pull
my
brake
line,
in
the
hope
that
my
wing
will
get
pressure
again
but
it
doesn’t.
I
look
towards
my
dad
and
see
that
he
is
also
in
trouble.
It’s
as
if
we
were
inside
a
washing
machine
being
thrown
up
and
down.
I
won’t
make
it
to
the
landing
zone
in
front
of
me.
On
my
right
is
a
narrow
stream
with
hardly
any
water
in
it.
I
make
my
decision:
The
narrow
stream
is
my
best
chance
of
landing
safely.
As
I
touch
down,
I
check
on
my
dad
and
am
glad
to
hear
that
he
is
fine.
Local
villagers
come
to
check
on
me
but,
surprisingly,
I
am
uninjured.
This
is
one
of
those
times
when
we
are
reminded
that
no
preparation
can
prevent
Mother
Nature
from
surprising
us.
24.
What
does
the
author
do
before
taking
off?

off
the
radio.

each
flight.

The
excitement
of
landing.

uncertainty
of
each
flight.

kind
of
feeling

C
A
large-scale
study
has
found
a
link
between
eating
a
diet
based
on
organic
food
and
having
a
reduced
risk
of
cancer.
If
the
new
results
are
confirmed,
promoting
organic
food
consumption
could
be
a
promising
preventative
strategy
against
the
disease,
a
team
of
French
researchers
said.
Meanwhile,
pushed
by
environmental
and
health
concerns,
the
organic
food
market
continues
to
grow
rapidly.
Organic
food
is
produced
without
the
use
of
man-made
chemicals
like
fertilizers
and
pesticides
(杀虫剂).
“There
are
good
reasons
for
the
organic
trend,”
said
Julia
Baudry,
lead
author
of
the
study
in
France.
“There
are
growing
concerns
about
exposure
to
different
types
of
pesticides
from
farming.
Organic
food
is
less
likely
to
contain
pesticide
remains
than
conventional
(常规的)
food,
and
studies
have
shown
that
an
organic
diet
reduces
exposure
to
certain
pesticide.”
For
the
study,
a
team
of
researchers
examined
data
on
the
organic
food
consumption
frequency
and
dietary
intake
of
68,
946
French
adults
collected
by
an
ongoing
survey
which
began
in
2009.
Participants
reported
how
often
(never,
occasionally
or
most
of
the
time)
they
consumed
16
types
of
organic
foods
including
fruits,
vegetables,
dairy
products,
meat
and
fish,
eggs,
grains
and
so
on.
“Over
the
course
of
the
study,
the
researchers
observed
a
significant
reduction
in
the
risk
of
cancer
among
those
participants
who
were
high
consumers
of
organic
food,”
Baudry
said.
“In
total,
the
participants
developed
a
total
of
1,
340
cancers.
However,
those
individuals
who
ate
the
most
organic
food
had
a
25%
reduced
risk
of
developing
cancer
compared
to
consumers
with
a
low
organic
food
consumption
frequency.”
Despite
these
results,
the
authors
note
that
the
study
contains
several
limitations,
which
means,
at
present,
no
conclusions
can
be
drawn
which
definitively
link
eating
organic
food
to
having
a
reduced
risk
of
developing
cancer.
28.
What
is
the
finding
of
the
French
researchers’
study?
A.
Consuming
organic
food
can
help
cure
cancer.
B.
Eating
organic
food
is
linked
to
lower
cancer
risk.
C.
Organic
food
consumption
may
help
people
stay
in
shape.
D.
Organic
food
is
an
extremely
important
source
of
various
nutrients.
29.
What’s
one
reason
for
organic
food
becoming
popular?
A.
People
care
about
the
environment
and
their
health.
B.
Organic
food
is
produced
in
a
clean
environment.
C.
More
and
more
people
can
now
afford
organic
food.
D.
Organic
food
is
easier
to
grow.
30.
What
does
the
underlined
part
“the
organic
trend”
probably
refer
to?
A.
Better
quality
of
organic
food.
B.
Losing
interest
in
organic
food.
C.
Higher
prices
of
organic
food.
D.
The
rapidly
growing
market
of
organic
food.
31.
What
can
we
know
about
the
French
researchers’
survey
from
the
passage?
A.
It
was
only
carried
out
in
2009.
B.
Nearly
69,000
people
took
part
in
it.
C.
25%
of
the
participants
were
cancer
patients.
D.
The
participants
only
consumed
organic
foods.
D
The
discussion
on
renewable
energy
has
been
going
on
for
at
least
a
decade
and
people
have
relied
on
Fossil
Fuels
almost
entirely
for
more
than
a
century.
However,
the
situation
where
fossil
fuels
were
the
most
efficient
and
the
cheapest
source
of
energy
has
been
left
far
in
the
past.
Many
countries
such
as
Germany
and
Sweden
have
already
made
significant
efforts
to
fix
this
situation,
employing
many
power
plants
working
on
the
renewable
resources
of
energy.
The
most
effective
among
these
resources
is
geothermal
(地热的)
energy.
Geothermal
energy
does
not
depend
on
the
world’s
economic
and
political
situation
as
strongly
as
fossil
fuels
do.
Besides,
extracting
(提炼)
fossil
fuels
adds
to
the
price
of
energy
produced
from
them.
Therefore,
geothermal
energy
is
much
cheaper
than
traditional
ones,
saving
up
to
80%
of
the
costs
over
fossil
fuels.
Being
a
renewable
resource,
geothermal
energy
produces
less
waste
and
pollution
than
traditional
energy
sources.
In
geothermal
systems,
carbon
dioxide
makes
up
about
10%
of
air
produced.
Overall,
in
order
to
produce
the
electricity
that
can
be
used
for
one
hour,
the
geothermal
systems
produce
0.1
pound
of
carbon
dioxide
and
other
harmful
gases.
For
a
comparison,
a
power
plant
producing
from
gas
produces
up
to
2
pounds
of
carbon
dioxide
into
the
atmosphere,
and
those
power
plants
that
work
on
coal
produce
an
astonishing
3.6
pounds
of
greenhouse
gases.
Low
costs
is
another
reason
why
using
geothermal
power
plants
should
be
the
first
choice
for
many
countries.
Geothermal
heat
systems
require
25%
to
50%
less
energy
for
work
compared
with
the
traditional
systems
for
heating
or
cooling.
Besides,
geothermal
equipment
is
smaller:
due
to
the
very
nature
of
geothermal
energy,
geothermal
power
plants
have
only
a
few
moving
parts,
all
of
which
can
be
easily
sheltered
inside
a
relatively
small
building.
What’s
more,
the
life
span
of
geothermal
equipment
is
rather
long.
All
these
make
geothermal
power
stations
easy
to
build
and
keep.
32.
Fossil
fuels
are
more
expensive
than
geothermal
energy
partly
because
________.
A.
the
production
of
fossil
fuels
costs
a
lot
B.
fossil
fuels
are
nearly
used
up
C.
it
is
free
to
use
geothermal
energy
D.
geothermal
energy
doesn’t
depend
on
political
situation
33.
According
to
Paragraph
3,
what
can
be
concluded
from
the
comparison?
A.
Coal
is
much
more
efficient
than
gas.
B.
Gas
and
coal
are
often
used
to
produce
electricity.
C.
Geothermal
energy
is
environmentally
friendly.
D.
The
geothermal
systems
don’t
produce
harmful
gases.
34.
Geothermal
equipment
is
usually
not
as
big
as
that
of
traditional
energy
because
of
__________.
A.
the
life
span
of
geothermal
equipment
B.
the
nature
of
geothermal
energy
C.
the
small
buildings
D.
geothermal
power
plants
35.
What
is
the
main
idea
of
this
passage?
A.
Geothermal
energy
has
many
advantages.
B.
Geothermal
energy
is
well
accepted.
C.
Fossil
fuels
are
being
run
out
of.
D.
Many
countries
have
benefited
from
geothermal
energy.

Survival
in
the
Andes
On
October
13,
1972,
a
small
plane
flying
to
Chile
accidentally
crashed
into
a
mountain
in
the
Andes.
How
some
of
the
passengers
41
to
live
is
one
of
the
greatest
survival
stories
ever
told.
The
survivors
42
inside
the
remains
of
the
plane,
using
seat
covers
for
blankets,
and
waited
for
a
43
that
never
came.
Days
turned
into
weeks.
It
was
urgent
to
find
a
way
to
44
.
Three
of
the
passengers—Canessa,
Parrado,
and
Vizintin—volunteered
to
45
through
the
mountains
to
search
for
help.
When
they
left,
each
man
wore
similar
clothes:
boots,
trousers,
sweaters
and
a
plastic
bag
around
each
foot
to
46
the
water
out.
The
three
men
47
that
they
would
survive
and
bring
back
help.
For
part
of
the
first
day,
they
were
glad
to
make
some
48
.
But
as
the
land
and
weather
changed,
climbing
became
49
.
After
several
days,
they
reached
what
they
thought
was
the
top.
They
had
50
this
moment
for
days.
On
the
other
side
of
the
top,
they
hoped,
would
be
a
51
leading
out
of
the
mountains.
However,
they
saw
the
same
snow-covered
tops.
All
hope
wasn’t
52
.
Although
they
were
still
inside
the
mountains,
Parrado
53
two
low
tops
far
away
that
didn’t
have
snow.
If
they
could
get
there,
they
would
be
out
of
the
Andes.
Within
the
following
days,
they
walked
towards
the
two
low
tops.
Snow
54
completely,
and
flowers
were
everywhere.
“This
is
the
valley,”
Canessa
said.
“This
is
the
way
55
.”
Then
things
of
humanity
started
to
appear—a
few
cans
on
the
ground,
and
some
farm
animals
in
a
field.
By
December
21,
the
extremely
56
men
made
it
to
the
town
of
Los
Maitenes,
and
a
rescue
team
was
sent
immediately
to
57
for
the
survivors
who
were
still
high
in
the
Andes.
Finally
all
of
the
remaining
survivors
were
58

Their
terrible
59
was
over.

it
out—

第二节
语法填空
(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的内容(1个单词)或括号内单词的正确形式。
A
new
study
looked
at
conversations
between
parents
and
their
kids
when
they
explored
a
city
park
as
well
as
an
indoor
education
center.
They
found
that
talking
outdoors
was
much
more
enthusiastic
61
talking
inside.
Researchers
from
the
University
of
Manchester
recorded
conversations
between
parents
and
62
(they)
3-and
4-year-old
children.
They
focused
on
children
of
that
age
because
they
63
(usual)
have
a
lot
to
say,
but
often
it
can
be
challenging
64
(hold)
a
conversation
with
them,
researchers
said.
But
being
outside
seemed
to
help.
“Our
research
shows
that
65
(nature)
environments
can
better
improve
social
communication,
66
raises
the
quality
of
parent-child
conversations,”
the
study
author
Thea
Cameron
Faulkner
said
in
a
statement.
The
study
67
(publish)
in
the
journal
of
Knviron-mental
Psychology.
Researchers
said
that
there
was
obvious
improvement
in
conversations
held
outside,
but
they
didn’t
know
why
the
communication
flowed
better.
One
explanation,
they
said,
is
that
being
outside
in
nature
68
(ease)
pressure
for
both
children
and
adults
69
creates
a
better
atmosphere
for
easier
conversations.
Another
explanation
is
that
talking
outside
may
get
greater
levels
of
attention
between
70
(person).

My

I
visited
my
uncle
in
Seattle
on
last
July.
My
favorite
experience
was
our
trip
to
Mount
Rainer,
an
volcano
near
Seattle.
Before
we
left,
my
uncle
gave
us
hats
protect
ourselves
from
getting
sunburned,
so
I
supposed
that
it
will
be
very
hot.
Imagine
my
surprise
when
we
drove
up
the
mountain
but
found
the
top
covering
with
snow!
My
uncle
led
me
to
a
small
path
to
increase
our
chances
of
seeing
wildlife.
Suddenly
we
stared
in
astonishment
at
the
sight
before
us.
Little
animal
stood
still;
tiny
birds
rose
highly
into
the
air.
It
was
the
most
beautiful
sight
that
I’d
never
seen.

(25分)
Dear
David,
More
than
glad
to

you
are
coming
to
travel
to
China.
I’m
writing
to
express
my
warm
welcome
and
give
you
some
tips
on
your
travel.
As
we
all
know,
China
is
a
beautiful
country
with
many
places
of
interest.
As
a

I
recommend
you
to
pay
a
visit

Beijing,
where
you
can
visit
the
Summer
Palace
and
climb
the
Great
Wall.
Besides,
as
the
capital
of
China,
Beijing
can
better
show
Chinese
culture
and
tradition.
What’s
more,
Beijing
is
close
to
my
hometown.
It’s
a
good
idea
that
you
can
come
to
my
home
and
we
can
climb
the
mountain
nearby
together,
which
will
be
an
exciting
experience.
I
am
looking
forward
to
your
arrival.
Yours,
Li
