Most individuals experience some form of test anxiety when they take an important examination. This anxiety can 41 itself in physical symptoms like nausea or sweaty palms, or in emotional symptoms like panic and irritability. Often, individuals will become nervous long before the exam date because they feel 42 by the amount of material they must master. The first step in 43 this anxiety is realizing that test anxiety is a natural reaction, and that it can be 44 . In order to regain control over anxiety, one should break the exam 45 into smaller sections. It will seem much easier to master a series of small subjects than to handle a huge subject all at once.
Test-takers should make a study schedule weeks or months ahead of the exam, and give themselves a small amount to learn each period. When the exam day 46 arrives, anxiety will be reduced by the feeling of preparedness. Apart from that, anxiety can be lessened in a few easy ways. First, avoid having any excessively stimulating foods, such as those 47 caffeine or sugar, on the day of the exam. Getting a good night's sleep and a little bit of exercise will 48 one's brain and allow for easy 49 of the learned material. During the exam, breathe deeply and sit in a comfortable position. On exams where this is possible, many people find comfort in going through and answering all of the easy questions before 50 the more difficult ones.

If you are a recent social science graduate who has had to listen to jokes about unemployment from your computer major classmates, you may have had the last laugh. There are many advantages for the social science major because this high-tech “Information Age” demands people who are flexible and who have good communication skills.
There are many social science majors in large companies who fill important positions. For example, a number of research studies found that social science majors had achieved greater managerial success than those who had technical training or pre-professional courses. Studies show that social science majors are most suited for change, which is the leading feature of the kind of high speed, high-pressure, high-tech world we now live in.
Social science majors are not only experiencing success in their long-term company jobs, but they are also finding jobs more easily. A study showed that many companies had filled a large percentage of their entry-level positions with social science graduates. The study also showed that the most sought-after quality in a person who was looking for a job was communication skills, noted as “very important” by 92 percent of the companies. Social science majors have these skills, often without knowing how important they are. It is probably due to these skills that they have been offered a wide variety of positions.
Finally, although some social science majors may still find it more difficult than their technically trained classmates to land the first job, recent graduates report that they don’t regret their choice of study.

A. are ready to change when situations change
B. are better able to deal with difficulties
C. are equally good at computer skills
D. are likely to give others pressure
71. According to the text, what has made it easy for social science graduates to find jobs?
A. Willingness to take low-paid jobs. B. Readiness to gain high-tech knowledge.
C. Skills in expressing themselves. D. Part-time work experience.
72. The underlined word “land” in the last paragraph probably means _______.
A. keep for some time B. successfully get
C. immediately start D. lose regretfully

Weekend Sleep Imbalance Bad for Blood Sugar
A. And when they are eating more, they actually eat more predominantly after- dinner snacks.
B. Sleep loss can impact a range of physiological systems.
C. How can we improve the quality of our sleep then?
D. So make a date with a pillow.
E. But we go right back to burning the candle at both ends once the workweek begins.
F. The blood sugar, in turn, affects our sleeping patterns.
Few things are more satisfying than sleeping late on weekends. But though the extra z's may improve your mood, they do not appear to improve your health. Because a new study shows that so-called ‘recovery sleep' cannot reset the body's' metabolic(新陈代谢的) clock.. and may actually lead to some serious health issues.
73_________ It can increase our risk for cardiovascular disease, it can cause weight gain, it can decrease insulin sensitivity, so it can increase our risk of diabetes,' says Christopher Depner, an assistant professor in the department of integrative(综合的)physiology at the University of Colorado,Boulder.
A lot of us shut off the alarm on Saturday and Sunday 74___________ 'So we were really interested in how the sort of cycle of between insufficient sleep, weekend recovery sleep, insufficient sleep, can impact your risk of obesity and metabolic disease, 'says Depner. He and his colleagues invited volunteers to a nine-day snooze-a-thon.
One group was allowed to get a full night's sleep. The next was kept to just five hours each night. And the third group went back and forth, restricted to five hours of shut-eye during the workweek, allowed as much sleep as they wanted over the weekend, and then back to five hours for the last couple days.
'The study shows that when we maintain insufficient short sleep schedules during a typical work or school week, we find that this leads people to eat more than they need and this leads to weight gain. 75____________ And this altogether also leads to a reduced ability to regulate our blood sugar levels,' says Ken Wright, professor of integrative physiology at University of Colorado Boulder. But even more surprising, sleeping in on the weekend doesn't help-and even makes things worse.
'We found that after the weekend, when they went back to getting insufficient sleep during the work or school week, we found that their liver and their muscle insulin sensitivity or blood sugar regulation was reduced. And this is not something we had found in people who maintained chronic insufficient sleep schedules,'says Wright
So it's possible that this is a worsening of the body's ability to regulate blood sugar for those specific tissues after the weekend. 76 ____________And trade the sweets for sweet dreams.
IV. Summary Writing
Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main points of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.
With the average number of children in a British family falling under an verage of 2.0, compared with the traditional 2.4 children, the population of the UK has been falling for quite a few years.
Why aren’t British people having as many children as they used to? Well, there are many reasons. One of them is that British people are now having their children at a much older age than previously, meaning they have fewer years in which they can have children. Most young people today want a well-paid job, so they often go to university after high school after years of study at university, they then need a few years of work experience before they can get the job they want. So it’s not until they are about 30 years old that they can start to think about settling down and having children.
Another reason is that it is relatively expensive to bring up a child in the UK. Usually both parents need to work to pay for their home and living expenses. They need to pay someone to look after their child during the day, which is expensive.
In addition, problems in the global economy often affect British families. For example, when times are tough and there is an economic downturn, it becomes difficult to find a job or keep the existing one. This kind of uncertainty discourages people from having larger families.
So what is Britain doing to try and save British families? First of all, the government is trying to make it cheaper to have children. For example, there have been increases in money families can gain from the state each month. Also, there is an increasing amount of money for nursery schools, so that parents don’t need to pay so much for childcare. In addition, there are now laws allowing parents to take more time off work so that they can look after their children themselves rather than having to pay others to do it.

Recently, with the phenomenon of chasing celebrities becoming more and more common in our class, we felt it a necessity to hold a class meeting to talk about this. Yesterday we had one. Everybody was involved in the discussion and it reached a heated point. Let’s take a good look at how students’s opinions vary from person to person.
Some students are crazy about celebrities for the following reasons. To begin with, they gain quite a lot of fun listening to music or watching movie. They regard it as a way to relax from a heavy study burden on them. Music or movies from celebrities can bring them extraordinary happiness. What’s more, some works of celebrities are educational. They really enjoy them a great deal. In addition, they are inclined to beauties, after all, they are adolescents who are fond of whatever or whoever looks nice. Nevertheless, others argue that it’s bad for the general development of the students who are in adolescence. As far as I’m concerned, I’m for the latter one. Adolescence is a time for them to build their character, fall into the good habit and prepare for their future. They should spend too much time not chasing or imitating others, but learning knowledge so that they can have a bright future. Besides, some celebrities aren’t what they appear to be, which in some way, may lead fans of celebrities to the wrong direction of life.
Taking the above into consideration, I do believe we’d better off chasing celebrities.
