Using unless
1.Lead-in :Ask the students to translate the following sentences:
1. 除非下雨,否则我们明天要去公园。
(We will go to the park tomorrow unless it rains.)
2. 除非你帮我,否则在本月底之前我是完不成这项工作的(Unless you help me, I will not finish the work before the end of this month.)
2.Work out the rule: We can use useless to say that something can only happen or be true in a particular situation. Sometimes we can use if… not to replace unless.unless在意义上可以理解为if…not,在有些情况下两者可以互换使用。如:
I can't see unless I wear glasses. (=I can't see if I don't wear glasses.)
Unless you can pay your bills, you’ll have to leave.
(=If you can't pay your bills, you’ll have to leave.)
从上面的例子可以看出,由于unless已经表达了if…not的含义,它所引导的条件状语从句只能使用肯定形式。
