阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Everyone loves to hate one thing that is under fire now when it comes to the Internet. That is the user password.Actually it's been under fire for a long time.
In an ideal world, people would use a 1long string composed of completely random characters, numbers and symbols. Furthermore, a unique password would be used for every site or application the user uses. Unfortunately, the more complex they become, the more people are likely to forget them. The longer the passwords, the more easily forgotten they are. Therefore, people use the same password for every service or application. It is a no-10 and essentially defeats the purpose of a password.
Google is trying to kill off the user password. at least on Android devices by introducing the Trust API, which does what simple passwords cannot. It gives developers a framework for securing their applications using a number of security systems and metrics(衡量标准) on the device. A Trust Score will be generated based on the metrics the device gathers and will allow or deny access to applications based on whether or not your Trust Score is high enough. The Trust Score will be generated based on metrics like your device location, face scanning and fingerprint, and the things like your typing speed or the way you speak. Taken one at a time, these metrics are not very secure. But taken together, these metrics will help define the real "you".
Passwords have been around since the dawn of computing and although the security of systems has been improved, they haven't done much to improve the usability of systems. Google appears to have the best of both worlds - a highly secure system that end users won't even notice. Maybe that never- ending conflict between security and convenience will be able to take a break once the trust system comes out.
1. Why are passwords severely criticized?
A. They aren't suitable for forgetful people.
B. It's hard to get both convenience and safety.
C. Resetting them needs much time and effort.
D. They can't protect users against all threats.
2. How can the Trust API become secure enough?
A. By combining various metrics together.
B. By locking users' private information.
C. By providing users with Trust Scores.
D. By changing users' identity recognition ways.
D. By changing users' identity recognition ways.
3. What can we know about the trust system?
A. It's widely used in big banks. B. It needs to be improved in future.
C. It may make passwords out of use. D. It hasn't been proven to be effective.
4. Which of the following is the passage mainly about?
A. Will passwords soon be a thing of the past? B. Is the Trust API just pie in the sky?
C. What's the problem with passwords? D. What can the Trust API bring us?
B
That a Texas woman and her long-missing daughter shed the happy tears after they returned to Houston from Mexico on Saturday signaled the end of an eight-year cross-border custody(监护权) case that had mistakenly sent another girl to the U.S. against her will.
Houston resident Dorotea Garcia arrived at Bush Intercontinental Airport on Saturday morning after a judge in the Mexican state of Michoacan on Friday returned 13-year -old Alondra Diaz to Garcia following DNA tests that showed they are mother and daughter. Diaz, a native born U.S. citizen, was taken to Mexico in 2007 by her father, Reynaldo Diaz, without her mother's agreement after the couple divorced. Garcia was kept in the dark about Alondra
Diaz's whereabouts until recently.
The case gained attention last month after a judge in Mexico mistakenly ruled that 14-year old Alondra Luna was the missing girl and ordered her to be turned over to Garcia, who brought the girl to Houston. DNA testing later showed she wasn't Garcia's daughter and she was returned to her real family in Guanajuato. When asked about what had happened with the misidentification of Luna as her daughter, Garcia said she wished Luna well but now wanted to focus on her daughter's return.
Video recordings circulated widely of Luna screaming and desperately resisting as police dragged her away in Mexico. The judge in Mexico in April denied requests from Luna and her family for DNA tests, saying it was not within her authority. Alondra Luna's family has unsuccessfully sought an apology from the judge. The media spotlight push Reynaldo Diaz to deliver the real Alondra Diaz to family members who then presented her to authorities, saying she was prepared to go live with her mother. The judge waited for DNA confirmation in Alondra Diaz's case. Garcia, who had an emotional reunion with her daughter this week in a courtroom in Los Reyes,Michoacan, said she would not prevent her ex husband from being able to speak with their daughter.
5. What did Garcia go to the airport to do?
A. See her daughter off. B. Receive the DNA tests.
C. Meet her daughter. D. Wait for a judge.
6. What lesson should the judge draw?
A. Think twice before you jump. B. Don't count your chickens before they've hatched,
C.A man can do no more than he can D. Perform your duty and learn to be responsible.
7. What makes Reynaldo Diaz return Alondra Diaz to Garcia?
A. The court's judgment. B. Pressure from the media.
C. Alondra Diaz's desire. D. The agreement he made with Garcia.
8. What can be the best title?
A. An eight-year journey back B. A great joke one judge played accidentally
C. A 14-year old girl's miserable experience D. a reunion between mother and daughter

You may have run out of ways to entertain your kids during the summer holiday. Here are the best things to do with kids and teens in London.
Kids' week
Misleadingly named Kids' Week, it runs for three weeks rather than one. The core attraction of Kids' Week is how affordable it makes West End Theatre: it allows a child aged up to 16 to go to the theatre for free when accompanied by a paying adult. Two other children can get half price tickets for the same show. After the shows, there are a series of free workshops and activities with backstage tours, fancy-dress tea parties and dance classes all on offer.

The V&A Museum of Childhood

It's hard not to run into handmade toys or teddy bears passed down from generation to generation. As well as a program of exhibitions, the museum offers the opportunity to take part in free activities every day, including storytelling sessions and arts and crafts classes.

Held in different London parks during the summer - this year Regent's Park and Battersea park - the open-air school allows kids as young as six to practice on the trapeze (高空秋千) . Lasting about 90 minutes, classes start with warm ups, before students complete some basic tricks. It's not aimed at anyone afraid of heights. speed, falling or exercise, but there are few other rules. The oldest member so far this year was 78, so you can join in too, and if you can' t make one of the outdoor summer sessions you'll be able to join indoor classes from September.

If a person who always make others happy or satisfied, his typical response to any need or request is yes.Much of the time, this strategy may work reasonably well. You feel good about helping others. And, for the most part, other people like you. But in some ways by doing something like this, not only do you want to please people, but you feel excessively guilty and anxious when you can't. You fear the disapproval of others. You don't want to make any trouble. And having someone angry at you can be completely terrifying.
Because it doesn't seem OK to let anyone down, you say yes to more tasks and commitments than you can handle. This can lead to overwork, being angry, and being extremely tired. And you may eventually end up letting other people down because you are too overextended to keep all of those commitments.
If you are hearing an internal warning, saying,“This is wrong." or“This is just too much." or“You'll regret this later." do yourself a favor and at least listen before immediately saying yes. If you are feeling cautious about saying yes, try to give yourself some time to think carefully and deeply what it will lead to before deciding.
Try to distinguish between your desire to be kind, which will usually make you feel peaceful and positive, and the thoughts that lead to fear, guilt, or a sense of pressure. It's great that you have a strong desire to connect with others and to respond to people's needs. No one's asking you to give that up. But if you are able to say no when it really counts, you'll have more time, energy, and focus to really make a positive difference in other people's lives.
12. What does the author say about people used to pleasing others?
A. They can receive more approvals and praises.
B. They may spread positive energy among the people around them
C. They may get into negative emotions in a way.
D. They can reduce the risks of being misunderstood.
13. What does the underlined word“overextended" in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Taking on too much responsibility. B. Having communication frequently.
C. Hiding their feelings and weaknesses. D. Offering everything that are required.
14. What does the author advise people to do before saying yes?
A. Be aware of the people.
B. Reflect on the possible effects of the decision.
C. Learn to say no to some excessive demands.
D. Feel greatly relaxed and calm down completely.
15. Which of the following can best describe the tone of the author?
A. Objective. B. Doubtful. C. Critical . D. Positive.

写作
Dear Amy,
I'm Li Hua, a new student of our school. Recently, I've met with some difficulty with my school life, which worries me a lot. I desperately hope for some valuable advice and help from you to ease my pressure.
As a newcomer of our school, I find it not easy to fit in with my classmates and I'm always confused about how to get along with them, which depresses me greatly and makes me feel lonely. What's worse, the teachers' teaching approach is so different from that in my former school that I can't adapt to it easily, thus causing me much more pressure and anxiety. Faced with those problems, I wonder whether you will be kind enough to offer me some help.
Sorry for causing you so much inconvenience and I would highly appreciate it if you could do me the favor.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
