(二)非限制性定语从句
1.比较:限制性定语从句和非限制性定语从句
形式不同
限制性定语从句与其先行词之间不用逗号隔开,非限制性定语从句与其先行词之间一般用逗号隔开。
例:Many
schools
provide
courses
which
assist
new
students
to
develop
their
study
skills.
许多学校提供帮助新生培养学习技能的课程。(限制性定语从句)
She
heard
a
lovely
song,which
reminded
her
0f
her
hometown.
她听到一首动听的歌曲,让她想起了家乡。(非限制性定语从句)
功能不同
限制性定语从句与其先行词关系十分密切,它限制了先行词的意义。如果去掉该从句,剩余部分的意思往往不完整,甚至失去意义;而非限制性定语从句只是其先行词的附加说明,如果去掉,句子剩余部分的意思仍然完整。
例:I
was
the
only
person
in
our
office
that
was
invited.
我是办公室里唯一受到邀请的人。(去掉从句后,句子剩余部分意思就不完整)
Tom’s
father,who
is
over
seventy,is
still
energetic.
汤姆的父亲已年逾七旬,却仍然精神矍铄。(去掉从句后,句子剩余部分仍然完整)
关系词不同
that不能用来引导非限制性定语从句。请比较:
例:He
failed
to
attend
the
meeting,that
made
US
very
disappointed.(×)
He
failed
to
attend
the
meeting,which
made
US
very
disappointed.(√)
他没有出席这次会议,这让我们很失望。
He
failed
to
attend
the
meeting
that/which
was
held
last
Sunday.
他没有出席上周日举行的会议。
2.用which来修饰整个句子的非限制性定语从句
非限制性定语从句不仅可以修饰名词或代词,也可以修饰整个句子,这时关系代词用
which。
例:The
result
of
the
experiment
was
very
good,which
we
hadn’t
expected.
实验的结果非常好,这一点出乎我们的意料。
Tom
was
elected
Chairman
of
the
Students’
Union.which
made
his
family
very
proud.
汤姆被选为学生会主席,这件事让全家都感到骄傲。
【拓展】如果非限制性定语从句放在主句之前,关系代词只能用as,不能用which。
例:As
we
all
know,Taiwan
has
been
mrt
of
China
since
ancient
times.
众所周知,台湾自古以来就是中国的一部分。
As
had
been
expected,he
put
forward
his
idea
at
the
meeting.
正如预计的那样,他在会上提出了自己的意见。
3.用one
of
whom、some
of
which等引导的非限制性定语从句
可以用数词或不定代词(如all/both/each/some/most/none等)+of
whom或of
which来修饰或限定先行词。
例:We
interviewed
1
5
applicants
for
the
post,none
of
whom
we
thought
qualified.
我们面试了15名求职者,但没有一人合格。
Seven

the
car
accident,two

Can
Indoor
Plants
Really
Purify
the
Air?
Plants
are
very
important
to
human
life.
Through
photosynthesis
(光合作用),
they
transform
carbon
dioxide
into
fresh
oxygen.
They
are
said
to
___31___
toxins
from
the
air
we
breathe

but
is
this
true?
One
famous
NASA
experiment,
published
in
1989,
found
that
indoor
plants
can
clean
the
air
by
removing
cancer-causing
pollutants
like
formaldehyde
and
benzene.
Later
research
has
found
that
soil
micro-organisms
in
potted
plants
also
play
a
part
in
cleaning
indoor
air.
Based
on
this
research,
some
scientists
say
house
plants
are
___32___
air
purifiers,
and
the
bigger
and
leafier
the
plant,
the
better.
“The
amount
of
leaf
surface
area
can
___33___
the
rate
of
air
purification,”
says
Bill
Wolverton,
a
former
NASA
research
scientist
who
conducted
that
1989
plant
study.
Other
experts,
however,
say
the
___34___
that
plants
can
effectively
accomplish
this
feat
is
far
from
conclusive.
“There
are
no
definitive
studies
to
show
that
having
indoor
plants
can
___35___
increase
the
air
quality
in
your
home,”
says
Luz
Claudio,
a
professor
of
environmental
medicine
and
public
health
at
the
Icahn
School
of
Medicine
at
Mount
Sinai.
There’s
no
question
that
plants
are
capable
of
removing
volatile
chemical
toxins
from
the
air
“under
laboratory
conditions,”
according
to
Claudio.
But
in
the
real
world

in
your
home
or
in
your
office
space

the
notion
that
putting
a
few
plants
together
can
___36___
your
air
doesn’t
have
much
hard
science
to
back
it
up.
Most
research
efforts
to
date,
including
the
NASA
study,
placed
indoor
plants
in
small,
sealed
environments
in
order
to
___37___
how
much
air-purifying
power
they
have.
But
those
studies
aren’t
really
___38___
to
what
happens
in
a
house,
says
Stanley
Kays,
a
professor
of
horticulture
at
the
University
of
Georgia.
In
many
cases,
the
air
in
your
home
___39___
turns
over

that
is,
exchanges
places
with
outdoor
air

once
every
hour.
“In
most
instances,
air
exchange
with
the
outside
has
a
far
greater
effect
on
indoor
air
quality
than
plants,”
Kays
says.
Many
people
may
be
disappointed
by
what
Kays
said,
but
the
professor
also
made
it
clear
that
he
believes
house
plants
are
___40___

they
are
not
only
pleasant
living
companions,
but
also
provide
a
number
of
health
benefits.
Studies
have
shown
plants
can
knock
out
stress
by
calming
the
sympathetic
nervous
system,
and
can
also
make
people
feel
happier.
More
research
shows
spending
time
around
nature
has
a
positive
effect
on
a
person’s
mood
and
energy
levels.

The
entertainment
profession,
or
"show
business",
attracts
many
young
people.
1
only
very
few
can
hope
to
become
famous.
Talent
is
not
2
because
show
business
is
as
competitive
as
any
other
business.
Without
a
good
manager,
a
performer
can
never
hope
to
succeed.
Fashion
is
also
important
in
this
business.
The
best
tailor
in
the
world
will
never
be
successful
if
he
makes
3
clothes.
In
exactly
the
same
way,
a
performer
must
4
his
"act"
in
order
to
5
the
taste
of
the
moment.
This
is
true
for
actors
and
dancers,
but
perhaps
most
of
all
for
6
.
“Pop”
stands
for

popular”
,
and
a
pop
singer
has
to
work
hard
to
become
popular.
He
must
either
give
the
public
what
they
want,
or
he
must
find
a(
n)
7
way
of
singing
that
will
attract
their
attention.
8
he
has
succeeded,
and
his
records
are
sold
everywhere,
he
cannot
relax.
He
must
work
harder
than
ever
to
9
popular,
because
there
are
always
younger
singers
trying
to
become
famous
and
to
10
some
of
the
popularity.
The
life
of
a
successful
pop
singer
is
not
at
all
11
.
He
can
only
relax
when
he
is
alone
because
everything
he
does
is
watched
and
reported
in
the
special
newspaper
written
for
the
"fans".
The
fans
are
the
most
important
people
in
the
world
for
the
singer.
They
buy
his
records,
they
go
to
his
concerts
and
they
make
him
famous.
But
they
can
be
very
12
.
They
sometimes
steal
handkerchiefs,
they
tear
off
buttons,
and
they
even
cut
off
pieces
of
the
unfortunate
singer's
hair.
Therefore,
many
singers
have
been
forced
to
13
.
In
addition,
a
pop
singer
has
to
spend
a
lot
of
money
on
14
,
because
he
must
always
look
smart,
or,
at
any
rate,
different.
He
must
have
a
luxurious
car.
And
15
.
he
must
always
keep
smiling
for
the
benefit
of
his
public.

The
Human
Development
Report,
published
annually
since
1990,
seeks
to
__41__
“human
development”
around
the
world
and
calculates
a
“Human
Development
Index”
(HDI
)
for
169
countries.
The
HDI
is
__42__
on
average
income,
life
expectancy,
and
level
of
education.
__43__,
rich
countries
tend
to
have
higher
HDIs
than
poor
countries,
but
there
are
interesting
__44__
in
human
development
among
countries
with
similar
levels
of
economic
development,
because
some
have
better
health
and
education
systems
than
others.
Almost
every
country
in
the
world
has
a
higher
HDI
than
in
1990,
despite
the
fact
that
since
the
2008
financial
crisis
the
total
number
of
people
living
in
extreme
__45__
has
increased.
The
report
concludes
that
most
people
are
healthier,
live
longer,
are
more
__46__,

and
that
even
in
countries
with
severe
economic
problems,
people’s
health
and
education
have
generally
__47__.
Although
sub-Saharan
African
countries
are
at
the
bottom
of
the
pile
__48__
human
development,
some
of
them
have
made
significant
progress
since
1990.
The
report
is
__49__,
however,
of
the
fact
that
economic
inequality
has
increased
significantly
in
the
last
twenty
years,
both
within
and
between
countries.
The
greatest
threat
to
HDI
in
the
future,
according
to
the
report,
is
climate
change.
The
way
to
increase
average
income
in
a
country
is
through
economic
growth,
which
means
increased
production
and
__50__.
However,
if
this
__51__
to
greater
emissions
of
greenhouse
gases,
as
has
always
been
the
case
in
the
past,
global
warming
will
probably
go
faster,
causing
severe
environmental
problems
in
some
parts
of
the
world
that
will
__52__
the
livelihoods
of
huge
numbers
of
people.
The
progress
of
the
last
twenty
years,
__53__,
might
not
be
sustainable
.
The
only
solution,
according
to
the
report,
is
to
break
the
__54__
between
economic
growth
and
greenhouse
gas
emissions

which,
__55__

A
team
of
engineers
at
Harvard
University
has
been
inspired
by
Nature
to
create
the
first
robotic
fly.
The
mechanical
fly
has
become
a
platform
for
a
series
of
new
high-tech
integrated
systems.
Designed
to
do
what
a
fly
does
naturally,
the
tiny
machine
is
the
size
of
a
fat
housefly.
Its
mini
wings
allow
it
to
stay
in
the
air
and
perform
controlled
flight
tasks.
“It’s
extremely
important
for
us
to
think
about
this
as
a
whole
system
and
not
just
the
sum
of
a
bunch
of
individual
components
(元件),”
said
Robert
Wood,
the
Harvard
engineering
professor
who
has
been
working
on
the
robotic
fly
project
for
over
a
decade.
A
few
years
ago,
his
team
got
the
go-ahead
to
start
piecing
together
the
components.
“The
added
difficulty
with
a
project
like
this
is
that
actually
none
of
those
components
are
off
the
shelf
and
so
we
have
to
develop
them
all
on
our
own,”
he
said.
They
engineered
a
series
of
systems
to
start
and
drive
the
robotic
fly.
“The
seemingly
simple
system
which
just
moves
the
wings
has
a
number
of
interdependencies
on
the
individual
components,
each
of
which
individually
has
to
perform
well,
but
then
has
to
be
matched
well
to
everything
it’s
connected
to,”
said
Wood.
The
flight
device
was
built
into
a
set
of
power,
computation,
sensing
and
control
systems.
Wood
says
the
success
of
the
project
proves
that
the
flying
robot
with
these
tiny
components
can
be
built
and
manufactured.
While
this
first
robotic
flyer
is
linked
to
a
small,
off-board
power
source,
the
goal
is
eventually
to
equip
it
with
a
built-in
power
source,
so
that
it
might
someday
perform
data-gathering
work
at
rescue
sites,
in
farmers’
fields
or
on
the
battlefield.
“Basically
it
should
be
able
to
take
off,
land
and
fly
around,”
he
said.
Wood
says
the
design
offers
a
new
way
to
study
flight
mechanics
and
control
at
insect-scale.
Yet,
the
power,
sensing
and
computation
technologies
on
board
could
have
much
broader
applications.
“You
can
start
thinking
about
using
them
to
answer
open
scientific
questions,
you
know,
to
study
biology
in
ways
that
would
be
difficult
with
the
animals,
but
using
these
robots
instead,”
he
said.
“So
there
are
a
lot
of
technologies
and
open
interesting
scientific
questions
that
are
really
what
drives
us
on
a
day
to
day
basis.”
72.
The
difficulty
the
team
of
engineers
met
with

B.

did
not
have

C.
they

no

D.

the

A.
consists
of
a

这是一篇讨论微型飞行装置的说明文。首段开门见山,介绍了哈佛大学的工程师们受到了《自然》杂志的启发,决定自行研究机器苍蝇(robotic
fly)——一种微型飞行设备。第二段说明了制造这种飞行设备的实际困难:所需的构成原件没有现成的,需要自行开发。第三段主要介绍了该飞行设备的构成。第四、五两段介绍了该飞行装置技术成熟后能给我们带来生活上、科研上的详细用途。
72.
【解析】细节信息题。由关键词difficulty定位至第二段最后一句话“The

is
that
actually
none

them
all
on
our
own.”意为这个项目的困难实际上在于所需的元件都没有现成的,需要我们自己开发。on
the
shelf(现货供应)与ready-made(现成的)同义。因此,正确答案为C。
73.
【解析】推理引申题。根据题干信息,定位至文章第3、4段。第三段主要介绍了飞行装置的构成,并由此引出第四段首句详细介绍飞行装置的外置电源(linked
to
a
small,
off-board
power
source),指出最终目的是实现内置电源的放置(equip
it
with
a
built-in
power),是之有能力在更多场合自行完成数据收集的任务(data-gathering
work),完成起飞、着陆、到处飞行的动作。由此可见,目前该飞行装置只能在有限的地区内飞行,所以B选项正确。
74.
【解析】推理引申题。定位至最后一段第三句话“…to
study
biology
in
ways
that
would
be
difficult
with
the
animals,
but
using
these
robots
instead.”意为当用动物这一途径研究生物问题比较困难时,我们可以用这些机器人取代动物的位置。因此,正确答案为D。
75.
【解析】主旨大意题。
该题要求选定文章的标题,故需归纳文章的主旨大意。纵观全文,首段开门见山,介绍了哈佛大学的工程师们决定自行研究机器苍蝇(robotic
fly)。第二段说明了制造这种飞行设备的实际困难:所需的构成原件没有现成的,需要自行开发。第三段主要介绍了该飞行设备的构成。第四、五两段介绍了该飞行装置在能运用至多种场合,还能在科研中代替动物。可见本文通篇都在围绕机器苍蝇(robotic
fly)进行介绍。因此,正确答案为C。

(二)非限制性定语从句
1.比较:限制性定语从句和非限制性定语从句
形式不同
限制性定语从句与其先行词之间不用逗号隔开,非限制性定语从句与其先行词之间一般用逗号隔开。
例:Many
schools
provide
courses
which
assist
new
students
to
develop
their
study
skills.
许多学校提供帮助新生培养学习技能的课程。(限制性定语从句)
She
heard
a
lovely
song,which
reminded
her
0f
her
hometown.
她听到一首动听的歌曲,让她想起了家乡。(非限制性定语从句)
功能不同
限制性定语从句与其先行词关系十分密切,它限制了先行词的意义。如果去掉该从句,剩余部分的意思往往不完整,甚至失去意义;而非限制性定语从句只是其先行词的附加说明,如果去掉,句子剩余部分的意思仍然完整。
例:I
was
the
only
person
in
our
office
that
was
invited.
我是办公室里唯一受到邀请的人。(去掉从句后,句子剩余部分意思就不完整)
Tom’s
father,who
is
over
seventy,is
still
energetic.
汤姆的父亲已年逾七旬,却仍然精神矍铄。(去掉从句后,句子剩余部分仍然完整)
关系词不同
that不能用来引导非限制性定语从句。请比较:
例:He
failed
to
attend
the
meeting,that
made
US
very
disappointed.(×)
He
failed
to
attend
the
meeting,which
made
US
very
disappointed.(√)
他没有出席这次会议,这让我们很失望。
He
failed
to
attend
the
meeting
that/which
was
held
last
Sunday.
他没有出席上周日举行的会议。
2.用which来修饰整个句子的非限制性定语从句
非限制性定语从句不仅可以修饰名词或代词,也可以修饰整个句子,这时关系代词用
which。
例:The
result
of
the
experiment
was
very
good,which
we
hadn’t
expected.
实验的结果非常好,这一点出乎我们的意料。
Tom
was
elected
Chairman
of
the
Students’
Union.which
made
his
family
very
proud.
汤姆被选为学生会主席,这件事让全家都感到骄傲。
【拓展】如果非限制性定语从句放在主句之前,关系代词只能用as,不能用which。
例:As
we
all
know,Taiwan
has
been
mrt
of
China
since
ancient
times.
众所周知,台湾自古以来就是中国的一部分。
As
had
been
expected,he
put
forward
his
idea
at
the
meeting.
正如预计的那样,他在会上提出了自己的意见。
3.用one
of
whom、some
of
which等引导的非限制性定语从句
可以用数词或不定代词(如all/both/each/some/most/none等)+of
whom或of
which来修饰或限定先行词。
例:We
interviewed
1
5
applicants
for
the
post,none
of
whom
we
thought
qualified.
我们面试了15名求职者,但没有一人合格。
Seven

Indoor
Plants
Really
Purify
the
Air?
Plants
are
very
important
to
human
life.
Through
photosynthesis
(光合作用),
they
transform
carbon
dioxide
into
fresh
oxygen.
They
are
said
to
___31___
toxins
from
the
air
we
breathe

but
is
this
true?
One
famous
NASA
experiment,
published
in
1989,
found
that
indoor
plants
can
clean
the
air
by
removing
cancer-causing
pollutants
like
formaldehyde
and
benzene.
Later
research
has
found
that
soil
micro-organisms
in
potted
plants
also
play
a
part
in
cleaning
indoor
air.
Based
on
this
research,
some
scientists
say
house
plants
are
___32___
air
purifiers,
and
the
bigger
and
leafier
the
plant,
the
better.
“The
amount
of
leaf
surface
area
can
___33___
the
rate
of
air
purification,”
says
Bill
Wolverton,
a
former
NASA
research
scientist
who
conducted
that
1989
plant
study.
Other
experts,
however,
say
the
___34___
that
plants
can
effectively
accomplish
this
feat
is
far
from
conclusive.
“There
are
no
definitive
studies
to
show
that
having
indoor
plants
can
___35___
increase
the
air
quality
in
your
home,”
says
Luz
Claudio,
a
professor
of
environmental
medicine
and
public
health
at
the
Icahn
School
of
Medicine
at
Mount
Sinai.
There’s
no
question
that
plants
are
capable
of
removing
volatile
chemical
toxins
from
the
air
“under
laboratory
conditions,”
according
to
Claudio.
But
in
the
real
world

in
your
home
or
in
your
office
space

the
notion
that
putting
a
few
plants
together
can
___36___
your
air
doesn’t
have
much
hard
science
to
back
it
up.
Most
research
efforts
to
date,
including
the
NASA
study,
placed
indoor
plants
in
small,
sealed
environments
in
order
to
___37___
how
much
air-purifying
power
they
have.
But
those
studies
aren’t
really
___38___
to
what
happens
in
a
house,
says
Stanley
Kays,
a
professor
of
horticulture
at
the
University
of
Georgia.
In
many
cases,
the
air
in
your
home
___39___
turns
over

that
is,
exchanges
places
with
outdoor
air

once
every
hour.
“In
most
instances,
air
exchange
with
the
outside
has
a
far
greater
effect
on
indoor
air
quality
than
plants,”
Kays
says.
Many
people
may
be
disappointed
by
what
Kays
said,
but
the
professor
also
made
it
clear
that
he
believes
house
plants
are
___40___

they
are
not
only
pleasant
living
companions,
but
also
provide
a
number
of
health
benefits.
Studies
have
shown
plants
can
knock
out
stress
by
calming
the
sympathetic
nervous
system,
and
can
also
make
people
feel
happier.
More
research
shows
spending
time
around
nature
has
a
positive
effect
on
a
person’s
mood
and
energy
levels.

The
entertainment
profession,
or
"show
business",
attracts
many
young
people.
1
only
very
few
can
hope
to
become
famous.
Talent
is
not
2
because
show
business
is
as
competitive
as
any
other
business.
Without
a
good
manager,
a
performer
can
never
hope
to
succeed.
Fashion
is
also
important
in
this
business.
The
best
tailor
in
the
world
will
never
be
successful
if
he
makes
3
clothes.
In
exactly
the
same
way,
a
performer
must
4
his
"act"
in
order
to
5
the
taste
of
the
moment.
This
is
true
for
actors
and
dancers,
but
perhaps
most
of
all
for
6
.
“Pop”
stands
for

popular”
,
and
a
pop
singer
has
to
work
hard
to
become
popular.
He
must
either
give
the
public
what
they
want,
or
he
must
find
a(
n)
7
way
of
singing
that
will
attract
their
attention.
8
he
has
succeeded,
and
his
records
are
sold
everywhere,
he
cannot
relax.
He
must
work
harder
than
ever
to
9
popular,
because
there
are
always
younger
singers
trying
to
become
famous
and
to
10
some
of
the
popularity.
The
life
of
a
successful
pop
singer
is
not
at
all
11
.
He
can
only
relax
when
he
is
alone
because
everything
he
does
is
watched
and
reported
in
the
special
newspaper
written
for
the
"fans".
The
fans
are
the
most
important
people
in
the
world
for
the
singer.
They
buy
his
records,
they
go
to
his
concerts
and
they
make
him
famous.
But
they
can
be
very
12
.
They
sometimes
steal
handkerchiefs,
they
tear
off
buttons,
and
they
even
cut
off
pieces
of
the
unfortunate
singer's
hair.
Therefore,
many
singers
have
been
forced
to
13
.
In
addition,
a
pop
singer
has
to
spend
a
lot
of
money
on
14
,
because
he
must
always
look
smart,
or,
at
any
rate,
different.
He
must
have
a
luxurious
car.
And
15
.
he
must
always
keep
smiling
for
the
benefit
of
his
public.

Human

Report,
published
annually
since
1990,
seeks
to
__41__
“human
development”
around
the
world
and
calculates
a
“Human

(HDI
)
for
169
countries.
The
HDI
is
__42__
on
average
income,
life
expectancy,
and
level
of
education.
__43__,
rich
countries
tend
to
have
higher

than
poor
countries,
but
there
are
interesting
__44__
in
human
development
among
countries
with
similar
levels
of
economic
development,
because
some
have
better
health
and
education
systems
than
others.
Almost
every
country
in
the
world
has
a
higher
HDI
than
in
1990,
despite
the
fact
that
since
the
2008
financial
crisis
the
total
number
of
people

in
extreme
__45__
has
increased.

some
of

of
the

that
economic

twenty

both
within
and
between

The
greatest
threat
to

in
the
future,
according
to
the
report,
is

The
way
to
increase
average
income
in
a
country
is
through
economic
growth,
which
means
increased
production
and
__50__.
However,
if
this

to

of

as

the
case
in
the

the
livelihoods
of
huge
numbers
of
people.
The
progress
of
the
last

__53__,
might
not
be
sustainable
.
The
only
solution,
according
to
the

is

and

A
team
of
engineers
at
Harvard
University
has
been
inspired
by
Nature
to
create
the
first
robotic
fly.
The
mechanical
fly
has
become
a
platform
for
a
series
of
new
high-tech
integrated
systems.
Designed
to
do
what
a
fly
does
naturally,
the
tiny
machine
is
the
size
of
a
fat
housefly.
Its
mini
wings
allow
it
to
stay
in
the
air
and
perform
controlled
flight
tasks.
“It’s
extremely
important
for
us
to
think
about
this
as
a
whole
system
and
not
just
the
sum
of
a
bunch
of
individual
components
(元件),”
said
Robert
Wood,
the
Harvard
engineering
professor
who
has
been
working
on
the
robotic
fly
project
for
over
a
decade.
A
few
years
ago,
his
team
got
the
go-ahead
to
start
piecing
together
the
components.
“The
added
difficulty
with
a
project
like
this
is
that
actually
none
of
those
components
are
off
the
shelf
and
so
we
have
to
develop
them
all
on
our
own,”
he
said.
They
engineered
a
series
of
systems
to
start
and
drive
the
robotic
fly.
“The
seemingly
simple
system
which
just
moves
the
wings
has
a
number
of
interdependencies
on
the
individual
components,
each
of
which
individually
has
to
perform
well,
but
then
has
to
be
matched
well
to
everything
it’s
connected
to,”
said
Wood.
The
flight
device
was
built
into
a
set
of
power,
computation,
sensing
and
control
systems.
Wood
says
the
success
of
the
project
proves
that
the
flying
robot
with
these
tiny
components
can
be
built
and
manufactured.
While
this
first
robotic
flyer
is
linked
to
a
small,
off-board
power
source,
the
goal
is
eventually
to
equip
it
with
a
built-in
power
source,
so
that
it
might
someday
perform
data-gathering
work
at
rescue
sites,
in
farmers’
fields
or
on
the
battlefield.
“Basically
it
should
be
able
to
take
off,
land
and
fly
around,”
he
said.
Wood
says
the
design
offers
a
new
way
to
study
flight
mechanics
and
control
at
insect-scale.
Yet,
the
power,
sensing
and
computation
technologies
on
board
could
have
much
broader
applications.
“You
can
start
thinking
about
using
them
to
answer
open
scientific
questions,
you
know,
to
study
biology
in
ways
that
would
be
difficult
with
the
animals,
but
using
these
robots
instead,”
he
said.
“So
there
are
a
lot
of
technologies
and
open
interesting
scientific
questions
that
are
really
what
drives
us
on
a
day
to
day
basis.”
