"I
want
a
phone!"
said
Myrna.
"I'm
sure
you
do,"
said
her
dad.
"No,
Dad.
You
don't
understand.
I
really,
really,
really
want
a
phone."
"And
I
really,
really,
really
want
a
boat.
It's
not
going
to
happen."
Myrna
and
her
dad
were
stuck
in
traffic.
To
her,
it
seemed
like
they
were
always
stuck
in
traffic.
When
he
took
her
to
school
in
the
morning-traffic.
When
he
picked
her
up
in
the
afternoon-traffic.
Go
to
the
bank,
the
grocery,
a
birthday
party,
and
what
felt
like
ten
hours
of
traffic
was
what
they
got.
She
was
bored,
because
traffic
was
boring.
And
when
she
was
bored,
she
wanted
things.
Right
now,she
wanted
a
phone.
She
wasn't
sure
if
her
dad
understood
that.
She
would
have
to
tell
him
again.
"I
WANT
A
PHONE."
"NO."
"What
if
I
got
stuck
in
a
cave?"
"What?"
asked
her
dad,
trying
not
to
laugh.
"What
if
I
had
a
little
cat
and
the
cat
ran
away,
and
I
had
to
run
after
it.
What
if
the
cat
ran
into
a
cave,and
I
ran
after
the
kitten,
and
in
the
cave
there
was
a
bear,
and
the
bear
trapped
me,and-"
"And
then
you
were
stuck
in
the
cave."
Myrna
nodded
the
way
she
did
when
she
won
an
argument,
but
her
dad
wasn't
through
fighting.
"Is
this
a
mother
bear?
I
hear
they
are
the
fiercest."
"Yes.
It's
a
mother
bear,
and
she's
very
upset,
and
she's
going
to
eat
me
unless
I
have
a
phone
to
call
for
help."
"If
it's
a
mother
bear,
then
you
can
use
her
phone.
Everyone
knows
that
mums
always
carry
phones."
Dad
was
laughing
as
he
said
this.
Myrna
didn't
think
it
was
very
funny.
She
slammed
her
hand
down
on
the
door
of
the
car
as
hard
as
she
could,
which
wasn't
very
hard.
Now
she
was
angry.
"If
I
had
a
phone,
I
could
play
games
on
it!"
"If
I
had
a
boat,
I
could
eat
steaks
on
it.
That
doesn't
mean
I'm
getting
one."
"No,but
I
mean..."
Myrna
spluttered(结巴)。When
she
was
very
angry,she
spluttered.
It
was
embarrassing.
"If
I
could
play
games,
I
wouldn't
be
so
bored
when
we
were
in
traffic.
I
wouldn't
bother'
you!"
"I
don't
mind
being
bothered.
I
like
talking
to
you."
"Then
I
won't
say
anything
at
all!"
Dad
smiled
quietly
to
himself.
"I'm
going
to
call
Mum
to
let
her
know
we'll
be
late."
He
reached
into
his
pocket.
"Oh!
My
battery's
dead."
"You
know...
if
I
had
a
phone,
I
could
call
Mum,"
said
Myrna.
"Nice
try."
Myrna
smiled.
She
wasn't
getting
a
phone,but
she
knew
she
was
right,
and
that
was
almost
as
good.

want
to

B
As
an
adult,
you
have
to
do
things
like
waking
up
before
noon,
going
to
the
grocery
store
on
your
own,
and
trying
to
keep
a
steady
job.
And
some
jobs
will
require
you
to
speak
before
more
than
two
people.
Don't
worry.
We've
done
the
research
to
make
you
a
better
public
speaker.
Now
all
you
have
to
do
is
to
follow
the
rules
we
have
collected.
Confidence
Believe
in
yourself
if
you
want
to
be
a
better
public
speaker.
Many
speakers
are
no
prepared
and
lose
confidence
because
of
that.
But
others
lack
confidence
because
they
are
afraid
of
being
judged
and
they
become
nervous
and
sweat
a
lot
just
like
when
they
were
in
high
school
speech
class.
Yes,that's
the
mature(成熟的,成年人的)world
we
live
in.
Build
your
confidence
by
using
all
your
tools
and
realizing
that
you
are
the
centre
of
public
speaking.
Know
what's
up
You
have
to
know
your
topic
inside
and
out.
Nothing
kills
your
speech
like
"um"
and
"uh"
appearing
in
every
sentence.
You
are
possibly
picked
to
make
this
speech
because
you
know
something
about
the
topic,so
that's
half
success.Now
get
in
there
and
learn
everything
about
the
topic
.
Practice
Researching
and
knowing
your
topic
is
one
thing,but
actually
expressing
that
information
is
a
wholly
different
thing.When
the
lights
go
down
and
the
spotlight(聚光灯)
is
on
you,
no
matter
how
much
you
know
your
topic,
expressing
the
information
suddenly
seems
frightening.
It
is
necessary
to
practice
your
speech
before
standing
on
stage.
You
should
do
the
rehearsal(排练)
again
and
again
in
front
of
the
mirror.
So
when
you
stand
on
stage,
it
will
be
like
riding
a
bike
unless
you
don't
know
how
to
ride
a
bike.
Dress
properly
Of
course,
you
will
want
to
dress
properly
for
the
speech-which
could
be
a
suit(套装)。Regardless
of
the
dressing,
you
will
want
to
make
sure
it
is
also
comfortable
for
you.
If
the
suit
is
too
tight,stiff,
or
whatever,
it
will
take
your
attention
away
from
the
speech.
Be
Robin
Williams
You
may
not
be
naturally
funny.
In
fact,
you
can
learn
to
be
funny
from
other
people
who
happen
to
be
funny.
While
we
are
not
suggesting
you
become
Robin
Williams,we
suggest
you
arm
yourself
with
a
joke
or
two
to
make
sure
that
your
speech
is
not
so
boring.
Or
at
least
google
some
funny
words
or
stories
you
can
use
in
your
speech.
24.

the

and
again

the
information
under
the
spotlight.

a

nervous
C.feel
formal
D.

a

27.According
to
the
whole
passage,which
of
the
following
statement
is
true?
A.
If
you
know
the
topic
of
your
speech
very
well,
you
will
be
half
successful.
B.
All
speakers
lack
confidence
because
they
are
afraid
of
being
judged.
C.Expressing
the
information
is
the
same
as
researching
and
knowing
your
topic.
D.
You
can
dress
in
anything
for
the
speech
as
long
as
it
makes
you
comfortable.

The
number
of
American
young
students
using
vaping(电子烟)fell
sharply
this
year,
according
to
a
2020
survey.
The
2020
survey
was
carried
out
by
the
Centers
for
Disease
Control
and
Prevention(CDC)
and
the
U.S.
Food
and
Drug
Administration(FDA).
About
20,000
American
students
took
part
in
the
survey
from
mid-January
to
mid-March.
They
were
asked
about
the
use
of
any
vaping
or
tobacco
products
during
the
past
month.
Under
20
%
of
high
school
students
said
they
were
recent
users
of
e-cigarettes
and
other
vaping
products.
Just
5
%
of
middle
school
students
said
they
had
recently
used
them.
That
marked
a
big
decrease
from
a
similar
survey
in
2019.
The
earlier
survey
found
nearly
28%
of
high
school
students
and
11%
of
middle
school
students
had
recently
vaped.
Health
experts
believe
that
the
drop
comes
after
last
year's
sudden
increase
in
vaping-related
illnesses
and
death.
An
investigation
showed
that
last
year,
more
than
2,600
cases
of
lung
injuries,
including
60
deaths,
were
connected
with
vaping.
Most
of
those
who
got
sick
said
they
had
vaped
mixtures
containing
THC.
Earlier
this
year,the
FDA
banned
some
flavors(味道)
from
vaping
devices
mainly
used
by
teens.
And
the
federal
law
now
bans(禁止)
sales
of
all
tobacco
products
and
e-cigarettes
to
anyone
under
the
age
of
21.
Matt
Myers
of
the
Campaign
for
Tobacco-Free
Kids
said
the
survey
showed
a
"meaningful
drop'”
in
teen
vaping.
But
he
felt
disappointed
that
the
Trump
government
didn't
follow
through
a
promise
to
ban
all
flavored
e-cigarettes."As
long
as
any
flavored
e-cigarettes
are
left
on
the
market,
kids
will
get
their
hands
on
them
and
we
will
not
solve
the
crisis,"Myers
said.
28.
Which
of
the
following
statement
is
true?
A.Vaping
rates
among
young
students
in
the
U.S
went
up
last
year.
B.
The
vaping
increase
was
not
linked
to
popular
e-cigarettes.
C.Most
patients
surveyed
blamed
their
disease
on
mixtures
containing
THC.
D.
The
Trump
government
said
no
to
all
flavored
e-cigarettes.
29.
What
is
mainly
talked
about
in
paragraph
4?
A.
what
causes
the
drop
in
vaping
among
teens
B.what
effects
vaping
has
on
teens
C.
why
vaping
enjoys
popularity
among
teens
D.
how
vaping
becomes
popular
among
teens
30.
What's
Matt
Myer's
attitude
towards
the
Trump
government's
efforts
to
ban
cigarettes?
A.Positive
B.Negative
C.Objective
D.Doubtful
31.
In
which
section
can
the
passage
be
found?
A.Entertainment
B.Politics
C.Education
D.Health
D
To
this
day,
I
remember
my
mum's
letters.
It
all
started
in
December,
1941.
Every
night
she
wrote
to
my
brother
Johnny,who
had
joined
the
army
that
summer.
We
had
not
heard
from
him
since
the
Japanese
attacked
Pearl
Harbor.
I
didn't
understand
why
my
mum
kept
writing
to
Johnny
when
he
never
wrote
back.
"Wait
and
see--we'll
get
a
letter
from
him
one
day,”
she
claimed.
Mum
said
that
there
was
a
direct
link
from
the
brain
to
the
written
word
that
was
just
as
strong
as
the
light
God
has
given
us.
She
trusted
that
this
light
would
find
Johnny.
I
don't
know
if
she
said
that
to
calm
herself,
dad
or
all
of
us
down.
But
I
do
know
that
it
helped
us
stick
together,
and
one
day
a
letter
really
did
arrive.
Johnny
was
alive
on
an
island
in
the
Pacific.
I
had
always
been
amused
by
the
fact
that
mum
signed
her
letters,Cecilia
Capuzzi,
and
I
made
fun
of
her
about
that.
“Why
don't
you
just
write
“Mom'?”I
said.
Around
next
spring
mum
had
got
two
more
sons
to
write
to.
Every
evening
she
wrote
three
letters
which
she
gave
me
and
dad
afterwards
so
we
could
add
our
greetings.
By
and
by,
the
rumor
about
mum's
letters
spread.
One
day,
a
small
woman
knocked
at
our
door.
Her
voice
trembled
as
she
asked:
"Is
it
true
you
write
letters?”
"I
write
to
my
sons."
“And
you
can
read
too?”
whispered
the
woman.
“Sure.”
The
woman
opened
her
bag
and
pulled
out
a
pile
of
airmail
letters.
Read...please
read
them
aloud
to
me.
The
letters
were
from
the
woman's
son,
a
soldier
in
Europe.
Mum
had
no
difficulty
reading
the
letters
one
by
one
and
translated
them
from
English
to
Italian.
The
woman's
eyes
welled
up
with
tears.
“"Now
I
have
to
write
to
him,"she
said.But
how
was
she
going
to
do
it?
"Make
some
coffee,Octavia,"mum
yelled
to
me.She
seated
the
woman
and
started
to
write.
When
she
had
finished,
she
read
the
letter
aloud
to
the
woman.
"How
did
you
know
that
was
exactly
what
I
wanted
to
say?”
"I
often
say
and
look
at
my
boys'
letters,
just
like
you,
without
a
clue
about
what
to
write.”
A
few
days
later,
more
and
more
people
in
our
town
asked
mum
to
write
letters
for
them.
Sometimes
she
would
write
letters
all
day
long.
Even
after
the
war,
many
people
turned
to
mum.
On
one
occasion,
mum
admitted
that
she
had
always
had
a
secret
dream
of
writing
a
novel.
“Why
didn't
you?”
I
asked.
“All
people
in
this
world
are
here
with
one
particular
purpose,”
she
said.
“Obviously,
mine
is
to
write
letters.A
letter
unites
people
like
nothing
else.
It
can
make
them
cry
and
laugh.”
Today,all
mum's
letters
are
lost.
But
those
who
got
them
still
talk
about
her
and
cherish
the
memory
of
her
letters
in
their
hearts.

Food
and

are
a
hot
topic.
Here's
a
look
at
some
fascinating
angles(角度)
on
food
production.
Looks
Delicious
It's
been
said
that
people
eat
with
their
eyes.
36。That's
why
stores
usually
sell
the
best-looking
produce
and
throw
away
the
rest.
A
3D
food
printer(打印机)
can
help
fight
this
food
waste.
It
can
turn
unattractive
foods
into
something
that
people
will
eat.
The
printer
produces
an
eatable
paste
through
a
nozzle,creating
complex
shapes
that
are
impossible
to
form
by
hand.
Early
3D
food
printers
only
made
fancy
desserts.
37.The
National
Aeronautics
and
Space
Administration
(NASA)
has
experimented
with
3D
food
printers.
It
hopes
to
use
them
to
produce
more
exciting
foods
during
long
space
flights.
38
It
takes
a
lot
of
land,
water,
and
other
natural
resources
to
raise
animals
to
be
used
for
food.As
the
world's
population
increases,
it'll
become
more
difficult
to
feed
everyone.
In
2003,
the
United
Nations
published
a
paper
that
addressed
this
problem.
Their
solution
?
Eat
bugs!
Bugs
don't
require
nearly
as
many
resources
as
cows,pigs,
or
chickens
do.
The
idea
might
sound
strange,but
bugs
are
already
on
the
menu
in
many
countries.
39_。Beetles,ants,crickets......They
are
also
excellent
sources
of
protein,
minerals
and
healthy
fat.
Keeping
Track
Blockchain
is
a
digital
database
or
list
of
records
spread
across
a
network
of
computers.
The
information
stored
in
the
database
is
publicly
available.
The
technology
was
originally
developed
for
the
digital
currency,Bitcoin.Now
some
companies
use
it
to
track
food
production.Farmers
and
employees
enter
information
as
various
products
make
their
way
to
customers.
40
authorities
can
see
exactly
when
and
where
it
was
harvested.
They
can
then
track
all
the
other
vegetables
from
that
crop
and
warn
consumers.
Sharing
with
information
could
help
minimize
the
number
of
people
who
get
sick.
A.
Bugs
are
Good
B.
Animals
are
Good
C.
If
a
vegetable
gets
stolen,
D.
If
a
vegetable
turns
out
to
be
polluted,
E.
Now
they
make
pasta,
pizza
and
burgers.
F.
In
other
words,people
tend
to
eat
things
that
look
good.
G.
And

are
not
merely
good
for
the

Jenny,it's

Can
you

W:
I
would,
but
it's
not
working,
remember?
I
told
you
to
get
it
fixed
last
week
and
you
didn't

W:
This

the
noisiest
restaurant
I've
ever
been
in,
I
swear.
I
can't
even
hear
myself
think.
M:
That's
a
good
sign.
If
you
ever
find
yourself
in
a
quiet
restaurant,
that
probably
means
the
food
isn't
very
good.

you
to

your
lines
with
more
emotion.
Remember,your

you
again.
Do
it

W:
Of

not.
What
exactly
are
you

for?
M:
To
be
honest,
I
don't
even
know
where
to
start.
And
I
don't
have
much
money.
W:
That's
fine.
How
much
money
are
you
willing
to
spend
on
a
guitar?
M:
About
$100
to
$150.
W:
Try
this

It's
lightweight,
and
its
strings
won't
hurt
your

when
you
play
it.
It's
great
for
beginners.
M:
What
about
this
one?
It
looks
awesome.
W:That
one
is
electric.
It
might
be
a

difficult

you.
Plus,
it's
$800.

Never

from
China-
the
country's
most
famous
invention.
M:
I
thought
that
was
gunpowder.
Didn't
they
invent
printing
as
well?
W:Maybe,but
silk
is
the
one
I
like
most.
M:
It
is
made
by
worms,
though.
Do
you
feel
comfortable
wearing
something
that
comes
from
worms?
W:
It
feels
great.
That
is
the
best
thing
about
it.
It
feels
so
nice
against
my
skin-and
of
course
it
is
strong
and
looks
good.
M:Expensive
too,should
I
imagine
that?
W:
Yes.
All
the
best
things
are.
M:That
isn't
true.
Love
needn't
be
expensive
and
that
is
the
greatest
thing.
W:
Surely
life
itself
is
the
greatest
free
thing.
That
and

You
are
welcome
to
your

but,
whatever,
I
still

had
American

in
the
past.
M:
Yes.
But
I
trust
Chinese

More
and
more
people
use
them.
They
are
reliable
and
fast.
W:And
cheap,of

M:
Yes,that's
the
main
thing.
They
cost
far
less
than
even
the
Korean
ones.
W:I
hear
they
are
not
as
good
if
you
want
to
play
games
or
watch
movies
on
them.
M:
It
depends
which
one
you
get.
If
you

a
more
expensive

it
will
obviously
have
more
functions.
W:
I
really
don't
understand
why
anyone
would
want
to
watch
a
movie
on
a
phone
or
play
a
game
for
that
matter.
M:
Well,
I
used
to
think
like
that.
But
when
you
are

on

it
is
sometimes
nice
to
have
something

reading.
W:
Is

of
delivery
choices
do
you
provide?
M:
Standard
delivery
is
door-to-door,with
no
extra
cost.
However,we
do
also
offer
inside-delivery
or
delivery
and
set-up.
Both
are
added
costs.
W:Cost
is
not
an
issue.
We're
too
busy
to
put
them
together
ourselves,
anyway.
M:
OK.
I'll
get
back
to
you
by
the
end
of
the
day.
W:
Thank
you
so
much.

Welcome
back
to
this
week's
book
review.
Well,I
am
still
reading
what
has
become
one
of
my
favorite
books
of
all-time-Spider-Man
Legends.
To
be
fair,
this
is
more
like
a
collection
of
short
stories
and
each
one
is
related
to
each
other.
But
you
don't
know
exactly
how
they're
related
until
you've
read
the
entire
thing
two
or
three
times.
I've
read
it
20
times!
This
new
approach
to
storytelling
is
so
perfect
for
superhero
characters.
It
can
easily
go
back
and
forth
between
the
pure
fantasy
of
a
cartoon
world
and
the
raw
emotions
of
the
real
world.Most
importantly,we
get
to
spend
a
little
more
time
learning
about
the
history
of
the
other
characters
besides
Spiderman.We
learn
things
about
Spiderman's
family,and
even
some
of
the
bad
guys
he
meets
have
interesting
backgrounds.
This
book
is
great
for
both
kids
and
adults
because
the
language
is
so
descriptive.
Anyone
can
see
themselves
swinging
through
the
streets
of
New
York,
stopping
criminals,
and
performing
good
deeds.
The
level
of
detail
in
each
story
is
amazing.
It's
honestly
better
than
any
Spider-Man
movie
or
comic.
On
a
sadder
note,Spider-Man
Legends
came
out
just
after
the
death
of
Stan
Lee,
the
man
who
created
Spiderman.
But
I
think
he
would
be
especially
proud
of
this
book.
