Analysis of the teaching material
This lesson is about the school life of a newcomer to Senior High. The reading part presents us what a newcomer sees, and feels on the first day at Senior High. The contents of this module are so closely to the real life of the students that it will surely arouse their interest in the classroom activities. By studying this lesson , Students can get a general idea on how to express their feelings about their teachers , classes and the school life in English.
Analysis of the students
The students have just entered the Senior High school. They can simply express their own thoughts with the knowledge they got in Junior School. They show great interest in their English study of Senior High . They are eager to get more information. However the teaching models in their Junior School can’t adapt their English study in Senior High school. So we should combine the students with their real situations, try our best to let the students take part in our teaching activities in a relaxing atmosphere.
Analysis of teaching aims
Knowledge objects:
The students can hear, read and use the main sentence patterns.
The students can understand the content of the lesson.
The students can use the patterns to express their thoughts in the proper situation.
Ability objects:
To develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
To train the students ability of working in pairs
To improve the students’ reading ability, especially their skimming and scanning ability.
3 Emotion or moral objects:
By completing the task, the students can increase their interest and set up self-confidence in their English study
To let the students know the serious attitude towards to the study.
Analysis of teaching method and study method
According to the teaching content and the real situation of the students, I mainly use the following methods:
(1)讨论法(discussion )
(2)任务教学法(task-based method)
(3) 小组活动(pair-work and group-work)
(4)多媒体辅助教学(CAI)
(5)听说法(listening and speaking)
As for the learning methods, Let the students get the knowledge actively by probe study and cooperative study.
Analysis of teaching points and difficulties
Teach the students how to describe their own school, class and their classmates in English .

Teaching steps
Step 1 Lead-in (Discuss and compare)
T: Everybody , we have studied in a new school named Song Gang Chinese-English School . Before you come here , all of you studied in different schools, now I will give you some time to think what the main differences and similarities between Junior High school and Senior High school.
And ask them to discuss these two problems:
1 Do you think that work at Senior High school is harder than that at Junior High school
2 Are Senior High teachers similar to Junior High teachers
T: After we have compared Senior High school and Junior High school, now we will learn something about Li Kang’s First day at Senior High . Before we read the text, let’s learn some new words first.
Step 2 Reading
I Scanning
Read the text quickly and try to find the answer to these questions:
a) What are the differences between Li Kang’s Junior High school and Senior High school
b) What are the two things the English teacher thinks important to do in class
c) What are the two things that the English teacher want to improve
II Understanding
Play the tape for the students and ask them to listen and read following the tape in a low voice. Then finish the forth part in Reading and Vocabulary on P3.
III Careful-reading
Ask the students to read the passage again and find out the detailed information.

IV Discussion
T: We have known the Li Kang’s life at Senior High. Is your English classroom like Li Kang’s Is your class the same size as his Is the number of boys and girls the same Are you looking forward to doing your English homework Now please discuss with your partner and compare your school life with Li Kang’s.
Step 3 Cultural corner
T: we have learned Li Kang ’s school life at senior high. Do you know the life of the teenagers in the similar age of you in other countries Now please turn to P9, let’s read the text in cultural corner and learn something about the Senior High school life in the US.
I Ask the students to listen to the tape and read the test.
a) What are the difference between the grade in China and the US
b ) How is the school year divided
c) How long does the Summer vacation last
d) When do they start and finish school
e) What do they do after school
II Ask the students to prepare a short reply to introduce the school system , vacation study time and after-school activities in China by imitating the letter in Cultural corner/
Step 4 summary
The teacher summary the class by comparing the school life in China and the US.
Step 5 Homework:
1 retell the text using the key words and expressions
2. read the text for as many times as they can
3. Preview the language points in these two passages.
